What an adorable sweet little book. Awww..!! was my first expression when I saw this book. Even though this book is meant to be for younger kids, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I felt nostalgic and went down the road of my childhood while going through the book. As a kid, I remember reading short storybooks like this in my school library. The author, Amanda Schell, has brought this beautiful piece into existence intending to hearten the imagination and enthusiasm among growing kids.
The book contains a short story about a young little orphan girl. She is befuddled about her being and on a chase to find herself a family and a home. On her way, she meets many animals and asks them to accept her as a family, but she is rejected as she is not one of them. Eventually, with the help of an owl, she finds her home among people of her kind. The story is fascinating and encourages kids to look beyond reality and fly along with the clouds of imagination.
The story is written in a rhyming format that makes it more interesting and child-friendly. It is a good source to enrich the vocabulary of kids while playing. This book would have been one of my favorite books if it existed years back in my childhood. It is a perfect book to gift your kids, and to your niece or nephew if you aren’t a parent yet (wink).
A compelling and sweet story of a orphan girl, all the more heart wrenching because that girl has no idea about her identity. She tries to compare herself with everything and everyone who is coming on her way. This is her story of finding a home in the end. The ending is so emotional and heart warming, I literally had tears.
Truly, this book is well written and detailed without once being boring or redundant. I can not say enough good things about it. I have read hundreds stories of orphans in the past but this one was one of the best. What stood out about this book was that it told the story while maintaining the rhyming. It was so fun and entertaining to read this story.
This book is meant to be, in addition to a beautiful children's book, a guide and a source of inspiration to show every orphan girl that she is perfect as she is and that she must believe in good. This is a very cute, motivational and meaningful story with eye catching and expressive illustrations.
This story might just give you the inspiration you need to deal with dark and difficult times yourself, reminding you that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
“Somehow, we'll find it. The balance between whom we wish to be and whom we need to be. But for now, we simply have to be satisfied with who we are”. The line as stated above bears a logical relation with the overall theme and context of the book at hand as it is most vital to know as to what we are for the presence of the same is something which makes us have a pact of integrity our inner self and how the same happened in the book shall be briefly delineated in the below paragraphs.
The length of the book is 18 pages and the age group for which it has been created tends to be children of the age 5-9 years of age and thus one can easily surmise the relation between the short length of the book. The overall storyline of the book focuses on the life of a young orphan who is willing to trace her origins. It must be noted that the presentation aspect of the book comes more in the form of a poetic experience as can be visibly seen from the lines “There once was a girl who was wild, She had no idea she was a human child, She was very sad and alone, So she went in search of home”. As the reader proceed further with the book the mood that gets established from the lines as stated above remains to be carried forward in the next one thus ensuring a sense of greater continuation of the chapter as can be seen from the line:-“She saw a horse standing in the meadow. And she thought he looked like a nice fellow. So, she ran over to him and said. I am like you, Look at the hair on our head!”.
It must be noted that the writing style of the book comes in the form of a simplistic approach and lays stress over a broader topic and one with contemporary relevance. The author has through simplicity expressed many feelings of the character such as desperation etc.
