There's something wrong with the inmates at Ashford Asylum.
And Thalia is no exception.
From the moment she set foot in this place, escape was the one thing on her mind. Until now.
Until she started to wonder if maybe she belongs here.
It's more than madness that haunts these crooked halls. In fact, it might not be madness at all, but something darker. Something that drew them here to this place in the first place. Something that makes them all stay.
Try as they might not to, even the self-proclaimed princes of this place start to see it too.
Price. Ives. Kingsley. Bentley.
They might have run this place for a decade before Thalia arrived, but they can’t do it anymore. Not without her.
Not when even they couldn’t break her.
When Thalia first arrived at the Asylum, staying inside its walls was the worst fate she could imagine. But as the truth of how she got in here in the first place comes out, she starts to wonder which is worse?
Leaving the asylum knowing there’s not one person left outside these walls who she can trust…or staying inside, where at least she has allies.
More than allies, she has friends. Lovers.
People who know her. Understand her. Care for her, even.
People who won’t look at her gifts as a curse.
They say no one leaves Ashford Asylum. Now she’s starting to understand why.
A House So Cruel is a dark enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance where the main character has no intention of choosing between the love interests she starts falling for. It is the second part of the Asylum Bound duology. This series contains steam and sensitive subjects that may not be suitable for all readers.
UGHHHHHH what the h*ll! That’s all I get?!?! I am straight up angry at how this book ended. I got none of the answers I wanted and I’m just overall confused on what just happened.
I loved the concept of this book so much, but it just went nowhere. I mean what the h*ll?!? That ending was such an awful slap in my face! The story is so unique and I wanted so much out of it and that ending was so confusing and just didn’t make any sense! This second book was starting to make the series more understandable and then the villain came literally out of left field! Also the boys in this book were meh. I mean they were intriguing and I wanted more, but there wasn’t any explanation of their characters or what made them them. I also wanted there to be more time spent between them and Thalia. I mean it's a romance.... Where was the romance?!? There was one steamy scene, but it faded to black..... WHAT!?!?!
Thalia got better with time and she actually surprised me on how much I loved her. She deserved so much more than the story gave her and it made me so mad that it had to end this way. SO RUDE.
I’m still mad, but hopefully a new book will make me happy again.
This book is very well written and pretty interesting, I just think that the story dragged at points which took time away from potential story points. This book has more steam than the first one, but I personally think that the relationship between the characters was fast-tracked too much and did not feel natural. I was a little let down by the ending, it left me wanting more and wondering what happened to the characters. I know this review sounds very negative, but I will say that I did actually enjoy this book, but I wanted to give ample warnings, because I do realize it is not everyone's cup of tea.
I just wanted to apologise to the author as I thought I had reviewed this already! This was a fairly quick read and pretty enjoyable overall. The steam was very much kept to one point in this book which I think may be a bit misleading perhaps to be mentioned in the first book triggers. I also think the ending was rather abrupt and possibly could of had a third book on the future of things as it’s a very much open ended book which isn’t for everyone. I don’t want to give much away but that is something I know isn’t for everyone. Overall I think it’s well paced with interesting characters and definitely worth giving the book a try.

The first book was great, detailed. Then this one was decent. I enjoyed the suspense but we never got answers to anything. Like how old is everyone, why are they there. What they are. How it is possible, etc. we don't learn much of anything about the other characters or if the brother also has... issues. Then it just sort of ends.
