This was a super quick read, mostly fun, but with some issues which were hard for me to overlook.

First, let me say this...I have several Agatha Christie books, yet I haven't read a single one yet. 😬 I know, I know - it's blasphemous. I genuinely need to make time for them.

Now, having gotten that embarrassing tidbit out of the way, let's discuss The Islanders. My main gripe about this story was Kimberley's skills (or lack thereof) as a detective. Reading about her fumbling/bumbling efforts was genuinely embarrassing...and made me think that perhaps the fact she'd quit her job years before was a good thing. Because her work as a detective was so crucial to the plot (no spoilers), it essentially ruined the entire book for me.

I will admit, I'm a sucker for a locked-room mystery, and though I suspected the killer early on, I doubted the whole cast at one point or another. The ending was more intriguing than I expected, so kudos to S.V. Leonard for that. Implausible? Oh, hell yes. But fun.

Overall, if you appreciate this type of mystery, I think you'll probably enjoy this novel. Had Kimberley been a little more capable, and a little less drunk, this had the potential to earn a very high rating from me.

LoveWrecked is back after a five year absence and you heard it first here on Spyland.co.uk! Amongst the line up for the prize pot is down on her uppers Kimberley King, 32, from Liverpool. Candidates have been chosen by a social media algorithm, allegedly. For a closed room mystery substitute ‘Locked Island’ Mystery which takes place in an unknown Greek location. Kimberley narrates with clips from Spyland and social media #brainless #venomous #snarky #vacuous comments.

Well, this is bonkers but I have to say that you do have a highly entertaining fun, escapist time reading this. If I had to watch (one of) the inspiration(s) for this novel I’d run for the hills and I don’t run unless I absolutely have to or I’d maybe do the eye/pin thing rather than expend energy. However, this is such a lively, engaging, quick, easy to read book with a fast paced plot line that it just pulls you in to the island mayhem and madness! Yes of course it’s not realistic and not necessarily original but if something pulls you into the storyline and distracts you from the real world, who cares?!! Apart from Kim the candidates are not remotely likeable but that’s the point! On Day One the initial camaraderie changes to sharpened elbow jostling, barbed comments and a lot of appendage swinging from those who have appendages. All of the characters at some point deserve a slap or three especially those who are shrieking and screaming, they seriously get on my nerves. Then the tone utterly changes on Day Two, it becomes darker, twisty, totally unpredictable and wonderfully daft that you just carry on reading because you’ve just got to KNOW!!

Overall, if you’re in the market for something to while away the hours, that’s enjoyable and serves to distract then this may fit the bill. I look forward to reading what the author comes up with next!

With thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for the arc for an honest review and to GR friend Javier for putting it on my radar!

This was a fast-paced absorbing read that I had a hard time putting down. So much so that I read it in one day. It was a nice blend of Big Brother meets Survivor.

LoveWrecked is back after a hiatus! Contestants are randomly selected to live on a villa on a Greek Island. Each must pair up with another contestant and the two member teams must pass challenges while viewers watch and vote on who they enjoy watching the most. Whoever wins gets a monetary prize. Kimberly King could use the money just as much as she could use a fresh start. She is a former police officer who, for the last five years, has been attempting to dull out the reasons she left the police force.

But soon she and the other contestants will learn that not everything is as it seems. After enjoying a meal together, things go downhill - FAST. In the morning they will wake up to find one of the contestants DEAD! It is just them and the small filming crew, so it's safe to assume that one of them is a killer!

Things go from bad to worse fast. As they scramble to stay alive, they must also rely on Kimberly to solve the mystery while their viewers watch on live television. The plot, as they say, thickens.

This was a fun mystery and like Kimberly, I was trying to solve the case! Who would want to kill this group of people? To what gain? How can all of this unravel on live television? Who will you suspect? It is easy to be skeptical of all the contestants. They are quick to fight, argue, scream, rant and there was obviously a cat on the island as it certainly had a few of their tongues.

You will instantly feel the And Then There Were None vibe in this book. It was highly entertaining to watch the characters unravel and begin to show their true selves as the book progressed. Reading this was fun and the plot was addictive. There are some twists and turns which moved the book along at a quick speed.

If you are looking for a book to escape with, this is a good choice.

Thank you to Canelo and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh my, this was another bonkers story. A reality TV show LoveWrecked, very popular in Britain, is about to be re-started after a five year hiatus. The premise is a bunch of people go to an island, they are supposed to pair up and take part in challenges. One pair is eliminated every week and the winning pair get a generous cash prize. This time around the format will be slightly different, the show will select people at random rather than calling for applications.

Kimberley King is one of those selected. A former police officer, she left the force five years ago but we don’t learn why until much later. These days she tends a bar and is a party girl. She is also dead broke and, despite her reservations, she agrees to go in the hope of winning and solving all her financial problems.

She arrives at Crete and is whisked off to the port for the journey to the island with four other contestants. Hmm, the others must be arriving later. On the island, in addition to the five contestants (including Kim) are Rosalind (producer), Sophie (assistant producer) and Daniel (cameraman). One contestant, Jack Peak, manages to annoy everyone on the first night including giving a lot of unwanted attention to the female contestants. The next morning Jack is found dead in the pool.

It’s a sort of locked room type mystery on this island. They can’t get out of the compound and all the cell phones have been smashed. Jack’s death is only the first. Kim, being a former police officer, tries to question the others but, unsurprisingly, it turns out that everyone has secrets and no one wants to spill.

While I do enjoy a bonkers book occasionally, and I did stick with this right to the end, I found it getting more and more implausible as it went along. And, while I also don’t necessarily require plausibility to enjoy a book (think horror, sci-fi, fantasy and anything written by Matthew Reilly) in this case I was left wanting a bit more. The story was fun, the plot flowed well enough, the characters - well, none of them were very likeable but still... it was a quick, light, fun read. I think this will appeal to a lot of people, particularly those who like a dose of ‘reality’! Thanks to Netgalley, Canelo and S.V. Leonard for proving a copy for review. My opinions are my own.

It is not a secret (basically cause I repeat it every chance I get) that And then there were none is my favorite book ever, so you can imagine my level of excitement when I learnt about The Islanders, a modern retake on the classic mixed with one of the biggest guilty pleasures nowadays, reality TV. I knew this was gonna be a winner and I wasn't wrong. In fact, this book got me out of the reading slump the last couple of books I read had put me in. When I read a book in less than a day that's always a good sign!

Kimberly King is randomly selected along a group of strangers to participate in the new series of LoveWrecked, one of the most popular reality tv competitions. With no job on the horizon and lots of bills to pay she can't say no the offer, so there she goes to a greek island where the show will be shot. But trouble comes knocking into paradise when soon after arriving her fellow contestants start dying one by one and what promised to be the experience of a lifetime turns into the EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME (that might be cut short, both the experience and the lifetime).

Locked room murder mysteries are my favorite kind and this one was not the exception. What an absolute page turner! I found it impossible to stop reading. The writing was really engaging and it's hard to believe this was just a debut novel. Kim was a very sympathetic character and you couldn't help wanting her to solve the murders, but not so much so people stopped dying but so she didn't add more blame to her shoulders. The rest of the characters were pretty unlikeable so that made it even more fun when they met their untimely end. All the countdowns to solve the murders really added to the tension.

I loved, loved, loved all the nods to Agatha Christie and her novel (the judge!), and let's be honest, you can't go wrong when you draw inspiration from the Queen of Crime herself!

The ending was really satisfying and I loved how we got little bits of information ahead of the big reveal so we could start putting everything together before the killer's unveiling.

Exciting and fast paced debut with all the ingredients for locked room murder mystery lovers to have a fantastic time. The author dedicates the book "to my Gran, who loved whodunits", and after reading it I can say she would be proud of this one.

Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kimberly is an ex-policewoman who is struggling to find herself again after spiraling downhill from a case that almost broke her. Out of the blue she is told that she has been randomly selected to join the cast of the reality television show "The Islanders" and will have the chance to win $100,000. The show has been on hiatus for the past five years and this is the show's way of bring back more tv watchers than ever before. Kim desperately needs the money and would love to get away from her life for awhile so she accepts the invitation to be on television 24/7 with a group of people she doesn't know on a secluded island in Greece and a chance to win money that she really needs. She'd be crazy not to participate, right? A beautiful island in warm and sunny Greece, living in a mansion for weeks with all amenities paid for. What could go wrong other than making a fool of herself in front of millions of viewers. Trouble in paradise begins almost immediately when a few cast members have a heated argument and the next morning one of the cast is found dead. Accident or murder? Unbeknownst to the group is that they are stranded on this island without any communication to the outside world and there is a killer hiding somewhere in their midst and that they plan to be the only survivor left when the cameras stop rolling!

This was a fast and entertaining read for me. If any readers enjoy reality television shows this book is for you. A cross between "Survivor" and "The Challenge" is how the show sounded. I didn't have to wait long before the action began and what fun it was to keep guessing who the killer (or killers) were and the reasoning behind why all these contestants were chosen. I really enjoyed the continuous action and being kept in suspense until the very end. I recommend this book to all readers who enjoy a fast paced and exciting mystery full of island drama This was a well-written and plotted story and I hope to read more S. V. Leonard books in the future!

I wan to thank the publisher "Canelo" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this story and any thoughts and opinions expressed are in it and mine alone!

I have given a rating of 3 Sinister 🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!

What did I read? It was like a Love Island spinoff gone bad. I'm having a terrible time picking books lately because this is yet another DNF at 18%. It was just peckish and the character development was shallow and just made me want throw my kindle. Disappointment abounds with this one.

Damn if a trapped, suspenseful mystery doesn’t just tap into that inner flight or fight response. The Islanders delivers on everything it says it does. Think Love Island with the ultimate twist. A horrifying and bloody twist. The two shows are different but standing up together in proximity, they are created from the same primordial soup that humanity crawled from. A desire to escape from life, a hint of romance distanced from everyday life and some hot hot sun. S.V. Leonard plays with fire and peels back the layers of human emotion and greed. This debut will have you rushing through the pages in a race to the end.

The Islanders is the addictive and highly compulsive read that I have no doubt will be extremely popular as we skip into the summer months. We might be having some rather unpredictable weather at the moment, but Leonard’s writing doesn’t fail to transport to the sandy shores, the tropical climate…you can almost feel the warm sand in between your toes. The narrative left me speechless and at times it was like a train speeding towards you – on this occasion I was happy to let the train hit at full force, and it did so, Leonard knows how to get you!

The Islanders has some magnificent depictions. Imagine being on a TV show, the cameras are following your every move, it would be something that would take some time getting used to. The contestants are chosen at random and taken to this unknown Greek Island. The unknown is thrilling and anxiety inducing all at the same time. I really don’t want to say too much more about the plot because anything I did would be a massive spoiler. Just let it be known that things are not as they seem, and things do not go to plan.

Kimberley has been running from her decision to leave the Police Force. She is harbouring secrets and past events – I love deeply flawed characters; it just gives that deeper context and sharper edge to the protagonists. She is backed up by more realistic characters who on one hand may not be entirely likeable but does give a more dimensional take on the plot. Leonard really impressed me with her ingenious ways of introducing characters to the story until throwing a smoke bomb down to confuse and lead down a different track. The cracks and doubts slowly fill in and I was nearly tearing my hair out trying to connect the dots.

The Islanders is a claustrophobic, nail biting race to the end thriller. It is a super addictive debut. S.V. Leonard is an exciting new voice and will be one to watch.

Love wreck is a reality TV show that has been off air for 5 years. They announce that it's coming 1back but the contestants will be chosen at random this year. Kim is a barmaid party girl she is approached and asked to join this years cast. With no money or job and £100k prize money is to tempting so she agrees to take part in the show. But paradise doesn't seem quite right and her senses are high from arrival. So when she hears a fellow cast mate screaming and sees one of the contestants is dead in the pool, she knows things aren't what they seem because she knows it's murder and that means one of them is the killer.

I really loved the concept of this book and I must say it is written so well. We follow Kim throughout the story she is ex police which becomes obvious quickly and yet her life seems to be a mess. I enjoyed trying to discover what it actually was to turn her into her. She has some funny thoughts to help break up the intensity of the book but still keep us hooked.

Even though the story is told from Kim's point of view we can still tell that there are obvious secrets that everyone is telling and that leads us on the investigation further. I enjoyed this because even when some secrets are revealed we don't know straight away whose Is whose. Its wrutten very cleverly

The novel breaks up between the show and an online newspaper I have noticed a lot more books are including modern technology within their writing and it adds something to the story

Would I wrecommend this book? Yes I would it's a interesting read and has a gripping storyline. I hope one day this is made into a film because that is the one of the main reasons I can only give its 3stars I feel n the description was lacking I'm so and overkill at other times. But I liked the story do I totally think its worth it..

Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for allowing me an arc in exchange for my fair and honest review.

The Islanders is a contemporary homage to Agatha Christie’s classic mystery, “And Then There Were None”, updated to that most modern of settings - a prurient reality TV show. I requested it based on a glowing recommendation on the UKCBC Facebook page, then realised I’d be reading three Overseas Travel Noir type thrillers quite close together (having also received ARCS of The Castaways & Her Last Holiday) but fortunately the plots are all quite different.
This one was outrageously implausible, but still a fun easy read that kept me guessing all the way through. I wondered whether reading about people going to a Greek island when we’re trapped by the pandemic would be tough, but trust me - this holiday will make you glad to be at home!

Kimberley King is a former police officer, who left the force under a cloud after a mistake she has never forgiven herself for, and has been drowning her guilty sorrows in booze ever since. When she’s approached about an opportunity to appear on hit reality show LoveWrecked, where contestants must pair up with a member of the opposite sex & compete for a big cash prize on a remote island, she feels she can’t turn down the chance to start over. Arriving at a luxury villa with the first four other contestants, they are warned that every move will be filmed, but soon the wine is flowing, inhibitions are shed, and tensions between the competitors start to rise. When one of them is found dead in the pool, Kim is reluctant to disclose her previous occupation - but then a sinister figure on their TV reveals their predicament - if Kim doesn’t solve the murder, more of them will die. The gates are locked, the clock is ticking, the players don’t want to cooperate, and Kim has no faith in her own detective skills - are they all doomed?

When I started this, my heart sank with the discovery that it’s mostly First person present narration, which I loathe - if only NetGalley had a “look inside” feature, but I need a better reason than that to abandon an ARC, and pushed through it. There’s a deliciously awful cast of characters - I haven’t watched any of these reality TV programmes since the earliest days of Survivor & Big Brother, soon realising they’re not for me, but still recognised the typical contestant types, so when they start being bumped off in various inventive ways, you don’t feel too sorry for them. I’m very bored with self-pitying alcoholic protagonists but actually quite liked that Kim’s isn’t false modesty -she really is as useless as she thinks she is. Given that there can’t be a mystery reader alive who hasn’t read ATTWN, and the book is referenced several times, so I’m not imagining the link, I wondered how the author could possibly hide the perpetrator and still avoid us feeling cheated, but she manages this very successfully. The ending is wrapped up very satisfactorily, even when it all seems preposterous.

The Islanders is a riveting locked-room thriller and a promise of paradise and exotic luxury that quickly turns into a bloody nightmare. After a five-year break in broadcasting, smash-hit reality television show LoveWrecked is about to return to viewers’ screens in a brand new series. Twenty lucky people chosen at random from their social media accounts, rather than asking for applications as in previous years, will be transported to a remote island off the Greek mainland and must pair up with a contestant of the opposite sex in order for the couples to fight it out in survival-based challenges to defeat the others. One couple is eliminated each week until only one is left. The winning team will scoop a cool £100k each to take home and do with as they please. Police Officer turned bartender Kimberley King, who is trying to get over the upsetting memories tied to her job in the force, is picked as contestant number one. She suffers from PTSD and is struggling daily not only with her mental health but with paying the bills that just keep mounting up. She feels she has nothing to lose by accepting the place and if she's lucky it could be the solution to all of her financial woes. When they arrive on the secluded island only a few crew members and contestants have managed to make it there through the huge storm and the first evening sees everyone extremely drunk.

This suits Kim fine as she's always been known as a bit of a party girl back home. When they wake up the following morning the alcohol-induced effects are still going strong but blurry eyesight can't stop them from the horrific sight in front of them; a body is floating face down in the swimming pool. It's Jack Peak. Then out of nowhere a television lights up and a figure is shown on the screen. Dressed like a judge, the figure informs everyone that's it's Kim’s job to investigate and ascertain who the murderer is among those present on the island and not only must she do so on television but also against the clock. For every hour that passes with the perpetrator left unidentified, another of the islanders will meet their maker. Can she save the rest of the cast's lives? This is a riveting and deeply compulsive read from the turn of the very first page, and although you must suspend your disbelief at how the plot isn't exactly realistic, the rapid-fire pace, engaging characters, twisty-turny narrative and intense mystery keep you reading way past your bedtime and more than make up for it. Kim is an interesting character who ends up taking this opportunity to escape the hell she is going through mentally and financially but ends up in an even worse position than she started. It is a gripping, immersive and enthralling tale. Highly recommended.

I have just finished reading The Islanders, by Author S. V. Leonard.

Kimberley King who was previously in the police force, has a current life that is in turmoil. She was stopped while out walking and recruited to be a contestant in a reality show, on a secluded island in Greece. A chance of a lifetime, or not?

This book has an interesting concept and was an enjoyable read with lots of twists and turns.

I have read other books by this author, and enjoy the easy style of writing, with stories that develop well.

Thanks, you to Netgalley, Author S. V. Leonard, and Canelo for my advanced copy to read and review

I absolutely loved the plot of this book and so glad it lived up to my expectations.

Kimberley King is ramdomly chosen to go on the new series of Love Wrecked, why is she picked and out of no where? With 100k up for grabs Kimberley is going to win this show.

Like the other contestants they all have a past they are hiding.

One of the contestants is found dead and it is upto Kimberley to solve it.

I really enjoyed this read think Love Island meets Death In Paradise.

This will keep you on your toes and guessing all the way throughout, who who who and why???

This book was an exciting read! I was immediately drawn in by the premise: essentially modern take on And Then There Were None, a locked room mystery where the characters have been brought to a Greek island to be contestants on a reality dating show. The book took off and moved quickly, and was a page-turner. The characters were not especially likable and all suspect, but I liked the main character and was rooting for her to solve the case. There was probably enough information to figure out who was guilty and towards the end, information was intentionally shared in a way that you started to understand how it all came together before the big reveal, but I was generally satisfied with the conclusion and wrap-up. The book may not be re-inventing the genre, but I really enjoyed it and finished it in one day!

I read this as part of my book club read. A lot of our members, myself included, are huge fans of crime/thriller reads so this seemed like the perfect choice for us. At less than 300 pages we knew it would be a quick read and we were finally hoping this would be a book we all enjoyed.

Week One

Our first impression was we LOVED it! Within the first few chapters we were all hooked and desperately trying to stop ourselves from reading the whole book in one sitting. We’d met an interesting mix of characters, all of which were definitely hiding something and we agreed they were not chosen to be on the show at random. We all felt that Jack was a very unlikeable character and whilst we wouldn’t wish anyone dead we were glad he was the first to go! There were many predictions of what would happen and who else would die, most of us thought this would be a high body count read! At this point the book was ticking all the right boxes. We were desperate to read on and loved the fast paced drama. There were so many ways this book could go, overall our group rating was a 4 but it had the potential to go higher!

Week Two

By the end of the second week we had another murder and the element of the Judge included, who seems to be running the show! The Judge reminded us a lot of the horror film Saw and we thought the inclusion of it gave the story plenty of drama. We are still unsure who the Judge is or how the murders are being carried out which is making some of us want to read on! A few in the group are finding the story a little over the top and we all hope the ending will be more realistic. With most of the group sitting at a 4 last week a few have dropped to a 3/3.5 but we are all still enjoying it.

Week Three

This week the book divided opinions. Some of us were really enjoying it and thought it was a fun and quick read, others were finding it a little over the top and a bit disappointing. This is what is great about being part of a book club, it would be boring if we all had the same tastes and it’s great to hear the other members of the group’s perspective. At this point in the story Kim was still proving to be useless as a detective and her fellow islanders were turning against her. We all agreed that The Judge definitely had something to do with Kim’s past and the incident but we weren’t sure who their helper was. Some of us thought perhaps Daniel or even Mo? With just 20% to go we were all hoping for a great finale that we all enjoyed.

Week Four

As we reached the end of the book we all agreed that this was a fast paced, action packed read that tied up all the loose ends. We thought it was the perfect length, any longer and our interests would of waivered. We also loved the inclusion of the social media sections to break up the story. Some of us wanted a little more punch to the ending and were a little underwhelmed by it. We also didn’t agree with Kim re-joining the police, lets face it her detective skills weren’t up to much!

This book is the perfect summer suspenseful thriller and a MUST beach read!

The Islanders follows Kimberley, a past police woman who has spent the last 5 years running from the reason she left the force. When she is selected for the hit dating show LoveWrecked, she can't seem to say no! But within hours of entering the villa, one of the contestants is dead and then an announcement comes: one of the islanders is a murderer and Kimberley must work out who... for every hour it takes her, one more person will die.

I adored many elements of this book! From the modern twist of Agatha Christie's Then There Were None to reality TV intertwining with the discussion of it constantly being the 'death of media', was super interesting. The story was constantly suspenseful and I was always second guessing the characters and my own theories, sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the entirety of it. The writing was also very clever and super easy to fly through, I'm now VERY excited to see what S.V Leonard creates next.

In terms of what I didn't like however, I found that Kimberley's investigation skills were quite lack lustre at certain points. Being an ex policewoman, I was expecting some incredible twists and turns with her skills and I found that this didn't really make sense with her past profession. Towards the end of the book, I also found the climax quite unbelievable and far fetched -

All in all, this book was exactly what I was hoping it would be (with slight things I wish were changed) and it was a very fun, fast paced, perfect summer read! I really do recommend this for those that both enjoy and dislike love island... there are lot of interesting discussions and LOTS of suspense!

Perfect cross-over for any fans of thrillers who are also fans of reality TV. This book felt to me like Bachelor Pad x Love Island x And Then There Were None. My head is reeling, I don't know exactly what to say other than OMG! Remind me never to go onto a reality TV show ever, it could be the last thing you ever do.

I think even programmes like "When Reality TV Goes Wrong" wouldn't have been able to know what to make of the events that happened in the LoveWrecked villa over the course of the book. And a word of note if you are a TV producer, I know ratings are key for you, but please don't allowing live streamed murder, and then the rest of the happenings in this book on your programmes, its horrific.

That being said I can't help but think The Islanders would make a wonderful film, full of intrigue, its fast paced, you literally don't know what will be thrown at them next, other than Kimberley is being put into an impossible situation.

This is about a reality TV programme but not as you know it and its very hard to know who you can trust, and at no point did I guess just who set it all up or who was responsible. Then again the action was so frenetically paced that my head didn't have time to try to work anything out, just trying to keep up with what was happening.

This is one seriously impressive debut, I read the book in two sittings and that was only because I wanted to go to bed, not because I wanted to be parted from the story that was ramping up at all times. Utterly brilliant!

Thank you to Canelo and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,

The Islanders is such a great, unputdownable, amazing thriller! I loved it and I highly recommend it.

I even started to watch "Love island", just to hear those words ... Dear islanders ... After reading this book, these words will never be the same again.

Kimberley King is selected for the reality tv show LoveWrecked, which takes place on an island. What sounds like a dream come true, becomes a creepy nightmare. Within hours, one of her fellow contestants is found dead. Is he really dead, was he murdered, was it just part of the show? Kim gets her answer soon enough and she's not pleased. She is the key to unravel the secret behind the crazy plot twist ... and she's the only one, who can save them. Will she?

I loved the TV series Lost (2004 - 2010) and I liked the movie Fantasy island (2020). Basically I love thrillers that happen on islands. This one is no exception. But it's also a really amazing read, the characters are believable, the plot is excellent, the twists are unpredictable and the ending fits perfectly.

I would definitely want to read more by this author!

I really enjoyed this book, from start to finish . Lots of action and interesting premise for a plot with a couple of twists along the way. It was at times a bit gory, but as a reader you feel the menace, the fear and emotions felt by the Islanders. It is written from the point of view of Kimberley, an ex police officer who is sacked from her job in a bar in the first chapter. She is invited to take part in a game show where she can win 100000 pounds, and feels because of the financial problems she is having that she has little option but to do it. The reasoning behind the decision and why she is in the position she finds herself in is not really explained at this stage but once the action begins, it became irrelevant.
I liked the descriptions very much, I felt I got enough information to be able to form a picture whilst reading without having too much. Towards the end I would have appreciated a little more explanation, but all in all a good read.
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! Made me simultaneously wish I was on a glorious desert island while also never wanting to step foot on one again. Such a clever concept that hooks you in as soon as you hear about it - and this is from someone who has never even watched Love Island! Fantastically paced and plotted to give an all-round super fun and thrilling read. Perfect for fans of Lucy Foley and Liane Moriarty.

When Kimberly King is randomly selected to appear on reality tv show LoveWrecked, it's come at just the right time. Having recently been fired from her job and with a pile of unpaid bills, she's determined to give it her best shot and win the £100,000 prize.

Upon arrival at the secret Greek island villa where filming is to take place, events quickly spiral out of control when one of the contestants is murdered. A self-appointed 'judge' appears on a tv screen to announce that one of them is the killer and Kimberly must discover who it is, on live tv. For each hour it takes, someone else will die.

Ooooh I do love a good locked-room thriller and couldn't pass up the opportunity to read this one. The Islanders is the author's debut novel and I'm very pleased to say it lived up to my high expectations. Along the same lines as Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, which is one of my all-time favourite books, it was gripping, immersive and suspenseful.

The tension increased with every passing second as Kimberly wrestled with her own deep-rooted self-doubt. The characters weren't especially likeable — each with a hidden dirty deed in their murky past.

The book concluded with threads coming together nicely as both killer and motive were revealed. And yes, you've already guessed, this is another book I highly recommend. In fact I'm convinced it's going to be a big hit this summer. It's definitely one to put on your reading list.

With not much to lose Kim packs her bags and heads off to a remote Greek island to partake in a reality TV show. Who wouldn’t for a £100,000 prize! Little does she know that death and mystery will be part of the program.

I love a good locked room mystery and this one was right up my alley. The story revealed well-paced clues in a manner that kept me guessing throughout. Great storytelling and I highly recommend! I am very excited to see what this author writes next.

I want to thank NetGalley, the author and publisher for the e-ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are honest, my own and left voluntarily.

S.V. Leonard's The Islanders is a book about a British reality show, LoveWrecked, and the unfortunate cast and crew who arrive on an island to film the show, only to find themselves picked off one by one by a mystery assailant. The idea is great, and I do love a locked room mystery, especially one modeled after Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None (and there are plenty of these, lately).

Unfortunately, the writing style of this book did not appeal to me. The characters were under-developed and lacked depth. The dialogue felt contrived and forced. And, poor Kimberley's detective skills and emotional endurance were both severely lacking.

The good news: I didn't know for sure who the murderer was; and, after the identity was revealed, I slapped my forehead and said "Of Course!" because I should have realized it sooner. The Islanders is a very quick read, possibly perfect for a beach trip or a long weekend off work.

Thank you to NetGalley, publisher Canelo Crime, and the author S. V. Leonard for an advanced copy of this book so I could share my honest feedback.

An addictive, mysterious thriller which keeps you gripped right until the last page!
I absolutely loved this book! I was initially drawn in by the cover of the book as it is so eye catching you can't help but want to learn more about the book. I was not at all disappointed!
S. V. Leonard has taken what should have been a fun, summer reality show and turned it into a complete nightmare filled with revenge and death. Each time I thought I had an idea of 'who done it' I found out I was wrong.
Overall, I found this book thrilling and full of suspense! I would recommend this book if you love an addictive thriller with some reality show vibes!
Thank you to S. V. Leonard, Canelo and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
