Since the official synopsis is missing, I'm quoting it below for other potential readers:
"The man who broke my heart is back. Five years ago, we spent one magical week together. Landon was ripped, charming, and oh-so-hot. He made me feel like a goddess. Then he disappeared without a word. I tried to move on, but there was always something missing. Until the day I show up for my dog training job. Guess who’s my new client with a Pit Bull Lab mix? Landon’s sexier than ever. And this time, he doesn’t want to let me go. But it’s not so easy. What if time can’t heal all wounds? And what will Landon say when he discovers my secret — The precious little girl with his smile?"
I received this book through a BookFunnel promotions giveaway. It's the second book of the author's that I've read & I didn't like that book either & maybe this author & story isn't for me but others may find it to their liking.
Blake & Landon meet while they are both on a trip & spend a week together. Due to a misunderstanding, they each leave thinking the other abandoned the other without a word. Five years pass & Blake is raising her & Landon's daughter on her own & running a dog training business while Landon is running a company & having a negative reputation for being unfeeling. Because of Landon's reputation, his father gets him a dog to help brighten his image but the dog needs training. Blake & Landon as she's going to help him train his dog. Being reunited makes it difficult to ignore the feelings they have for each other but Blake is unsure of letting him into their daughter's life.
I didn't care for Blake very much. She solely blamed Landon for their separation when she didn't do much to share about herself making it easy to find her either. &, when they finally are reunited & she learns about the misunderstanding, she begins a relationship with him again but doesn't tell him about their daughter. Her excuse is that she's not sure if he would be a good father yet that doesn't stop her from getting involved with him. It was a bit selfish of her to deprive him of even more time with his daughter all because she was scared he would leave her.
As for Landon, my feelings about him were a bit more neutral compared to how I felt about Blake. Yes, he was cold at times with the excuse being that he's become that way ever since losing Blake but it felt forced at times just for his character's sake. He made some rude comments towards Blake as they worked together to train his dog but he did acknowledge he shouldn't have those things & attempted to follow her instructions afterwards. & it was always very clear that he wanted Blake back in his life & his daughter, even when he didn't know that she was his daughter.
Not really caring about the main characters makes it difficult to really feel invested in the story, but the writing is also a big reason why I didn't feel much. It was the tell rather than show type of writing style. By that, I mean how we were told stuff instead of letting the characters & events do it for the story. Also, this isn't a huge thing because I know there's all sorts of stunts but I thought it was a bit silly that Landon's dad thought a dog would help his reputation. & not only was it silly but it was irresponsible to get a dog for someone who didn't have the time nor wanted one. So, all those things made me not like this story but I guess fans of this author will surely like it.
Blake and Landon met in St Lucia five years ago but after spending a week together there was a misunderstanding with the receptionist and they both left thinking the other didn’t want to continue. Landon ran the shipping company he took over from his father five years ago. Blake ran a dog training business. Landon’s father bought him a three legged dog that he hoped would give him good publicity. The only thing wrong was that the dog was unruly barking or chewing furniture. So his secretary enlisted the help of Blake to train the dog. Blake got a shock when she saw Landon as she had kept a secret from him. I received an ARC for an honest review which I have given You will not be disappointed with this book.
5 stars I received a free copy of the steamy Los Angel set novel Second Chance Daddy: A Secret Baby Romance: Blake and Landon by Crystal Monroe and this review was given freely. A quick and ironic second chance at love story filled with emotion, drama, and dry/sarcastic humor. Five years after an intense week in ST Lucia harried twenty-six-year single mother Blake Carson finds herself suddenly reunited with the father of her four-year-old daughter Finn when an irate public display results in Landon Dunnegan of Dunnegan Shipping's father gifting him with the anxious and rebellious three-legged dog Stella. 18+ for steamy scenes. Heartwarming ending.
ARC Review For honest review. Blake Carson owns Carson cannine coaching and when London Dunnegan of dunnegan shipping father gets him a dog for responsibility finds his past and the women he could not forget back in his life. Fantastic story
What a great second chance at love story ❤️. After having met at a get away, then through a misunderstanding on both parts, they meet years later. Again, some rough moments, yet back and forth bickering/ humorous, they find their feelings. Loved this story ❤️
