The more I read of this series, the more I love it. The series began with a short novella and it was definitely enough to pique my interest, but this full novel was very cool and reminded me of a cross between Star Trek and Lord of the Flies. In this story, Sadira and her crew have been sucked up by what is essentially a space whale, except it's enormous. At least miles and miles in length and width. Without giving out much about the story, they are stuck in this "whale" with many other ships from a ton of other races, planets, systems, etc. The entire story is the crew trying to figure out what they're in, whether there are any other people alive, and how they might try getting out.
What I love about this series are the variety in the characters, including an AI ship, a cyborg, a four-armed species with eyes in the back of their head (Earth's allies in a great war where they fought off a common enemy), and even a mascot, not to mention a large variety of other sentient beings. I love the dialog and the mix of action, adventure, mystery, science, and humor and found I didn't want to stop reading this book. In fact, this book contains a preview of the next book and I couldn't help myself and had to start the next book. I previously read this author's Space Assassin series and like this series, it took me a little adjustment with the first book to adjust to the quirkiness of the books, but by the second book, I became really invested in the crew's stories and well being. This is turning out to be similar and I am looking forward to continuing with the rest of these books!
