Their trip through the Androski wormhole didn’t take them on the journey they expected, and now Reyanne and the team face a new challenge: stay or go? Stay on this new Earth and make a fresh start, or risk going back through the wormhole, not knowing where they will end up. Neither is ideal, and both have unpredictable consequences.
There are still too many unanswered questions about what happened on Earth, and the more the team search for signs, the more they realize how little they really know.
I wrote my review of the earlier book ‘Bleak’ (from which this continues) without hints or spoilers. This makes it difficult to write this review without revealing clearly what happens in Book 1, but let me try. This is a nice continuation and I liked reading it.
The Omni-4 crew took to space to find another stable home for humankind. They went through the Androski wormhole and after some challenges managed to land on a place which was liveable but prone to more extreme weather, including giant tides. This book elaborates the challenges which Earth faces some more – a hitherto un-noticed Planet X gradually cuts across the solar system moving towards Earth causing large scale disruption of weather systems, other than human induced changes. It is 25 years since the Omni-4 crew left and they are not yet back, and the situation on Earth gets worse. With advances in technology, there are probes which have been sent through the Androski wormhole and now there is a fairly good understanding on what to expect on the other side and also capability exists to navigate it better. There are two sets of teams who now take off – the Genesis mission led by Commander Quinn with a set of humans to repopulate & progress at the destination, and a smaller private mission which includes an imaginative young scientist Tucker and a capable navigator in Sam. Much of the focus is on the original Omni-4 crew and the Tucker-Sam team. The three teams coincidentally run into each other as the two new teams get past the Androski wormhole. However, at this point some of the Omni-4 are keen to return to the Earth they left.
This is a good continuation, though the novelty of the first book wore off. The first book was completely cozy & light – focused on space exploration with no violence & fighting, this book has just a little, though not much.
A short and easy set of two books which I certainly recommend as light relaxing reads.
I found this a somewhat confusing book at first until you realize it is really about time travel. In book 1 the crew arrived at an Earth of the future. In actual fact each time the crew travels through the wormhole, it arrives as an Earth of a different time. In one timeline, they discover an Earth about 75 years after they initially left, but before the date on the Earth to which they originally arrived. They traverse the wormhole a couple of times hoping to find a habitable version of Earth. On the last trip, they arrive at a time that could have real implications for the future ... a cliffhanger.
I did not find this book as good as the first. Based on where the cliffhanger left off - I am not sure I am really interested in reading the next installment - but I probably will.
Bleaker Earth Endures #2 Sci-Fi Jacqueline Druga ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was more confusing than the first one. This time, the plot follows the original crew sent to find a new habitable planet as well as a follow up crew who left decades after the original crew and a privately funded expedition. All 3 groups eventually meet up by accident despite being from different time periods.
I feel like there were quite lot of things left unanswered because the plot never returned to them and just moved on.
I liked the new characters, although it was a bit confusing reading their POVs from one time period and then switching to another.
I wasn't keen on the ending. It was quite abrupt and left me wanting to know more and I wanted more answers.
Ahhh. Book two . Loved it. Now I can't wait for the next in this series. The author writes many genres and I can't pick which is my favorite. What I want to know is "Where does she come up with these stories?"
Definitely recommend this book and this series. All of her books! You won't be disappointed.
Brilliant storyline, twisting & turning. This certainly keeps you thinking, no guessing in this book. Love it, Jacqueline Druga has done it again, very clever plot, just when you think you've got it, it changes. Looking forward to number 3 in the series.
I liked the second book better than the first book. I like fast paced books and not getting to bogged down in useless details. I did find that I had to reread sentences because they didn't make sense or words were transposed. Could have used a little more editing, but I still enjoyed the book. I am sure there will be a third book. When?
The 2nd book in this series is fantastic! I thought the 1st book was good but this is even better. The story line is enticing and the characters are interesting. This book should be made into a movie. It would be a big hit. I hope they do that. I can’t wait to read the next book but I don’t want it to end. So here I go.
Bleak and Bleaker are very intriguing. This is the kind of book that makes me hang on waiting to see what is found next or where will they end up and what will be found. Jackie Druga is an amazing writer.
I loved Tucker, he was a fun character. Every book and movie has proved that the past can't be changed. You might tweak something but the outcome is always the same.
I hope the next book completes the story. Towards the end of the book, I got confused. Something seemed not quite right with the flow. Maybe it was just me. We'll see with the next book.
This picked up right where #1 ended To me that's a plus. I enjoyed this book as much as the first. Lots of action. Hard to put down. The cast is great. I recommend reading this to all that love to read fiction.
This is a decent story. It's definitely worth reading. Nothing very dramatic or Earth shattering But it is readable science fiction. I like the characters And the plots .
If I could I would give it 10 stars. A fun story to read. Well written and exciting. I love the story telling ability this author shares with her fans!
She left us hanging! Totally cannot wait until she puts out the next book in this series. Druga is the an amazing author and I can never get enough of her writing.
Jacqueline Druga has become one of my favorite authors. This book is the second in a series where the Earth is undegoing numerous disasters and spaceships are built to fly through a wormhole to what turns out to be Earth but an Earth of a different time.
The one thing I do wonder is about Planet X and the moon both circling the Earth and exactly how that would work out but I don't know the math behind that so I'll just go with someone both are in place without destroying the Earth anymore than it already had been.
It starts out with one ship landing almost two hundred years in the future. They find someone from an earlier ship landing. The book goes into the various characters, what they find in the future that is left of civilization and a group takes another trip into the wormhole.
In this case southern California and a good part of Mexico are gone due to the disasters. They meet villagers and find out just what time they are in. They find out what killed around 100,000 people and they decide to leave again and go through the wormhole one more time. Each time they do that they have no idea just when in time they will end up. In this case it's obvious it's going to cause them a lot of problems.
I like the way the author does the characters and what types of things they will have to deal with. It's basically up to the same quality her other books are.
