She’ll have the world on a plate…if she can keep from falling for the man she hates.
Chef Charlie is thrilled to be a participant on television’s newest competition Food Fight! A win will prove her talent as well as provide a cash prize she needs to pay off the large loan on her food truck. But to Charlie’s dismay, her plans are upended when she discovers her high nemesis Drew is also a contestant.
He’s the bad boy of the culinary world, but Drew still harbors guilt for his past behavior to Charlie. However, he desperately needs to win for the competition’s prize money as well as redemption for his shady loss on another TV cooking contest. When Charlie trounces Drew in the first leg of the bout, he realizes that she is his obstacle to victory. He must find a way to make sure he wins and not her. And what better way for a player to get the competition off her game than by romancing her?
But soon Drew is falling for his mark and Charlie begins to question her mistrust of Drew. Can two people have a chance at forever when each has so much to lose?
Note: Each book in the Mouthwatering series is a standalone story with its own HEA!
It was a great thrill when I saw my first story in hardcover. Okay, so the book was titled Super Pickle and was part of a grade school assignment, but it did start me on this journey of wanting to write a good story and make readers happy.
After growing up preppy on the East Coast and living yuppy on the West Coast, I now reside in the Midwest where I enjoy the cheese curds and gorgeous sunsets, try to avoid slamming my car into the kamikaze diving birds, and battle my Rhodesian Ridgeback/ Labrador Retriever for supremacy of the bed.
It gave me warm feeling inside and I enjoyed the story.
There were few gramatical errors, but fine, whatever. The book made me giggle, so I don't care.
It would be a five-star, but Charlie's evasiveness got too old too soon. He hurt you, okay. Your feelings are valid. But don't be one moment all smiles and giggles with him, and the next one running away. And when she finally decides the past is in the past, she still tries to find the smallest things to get mad at Drew. Communication skills - NONE.
3.5 stars. Loved the storyline and the healing of old stories. Loved the food theme and behind the scenes for reality tv cooking contests. Didn’t love the gratuitous sex, thankfully, only two scenes. The book wasn’t higher writing. More high schoolish. Happy I read it and pushed myself out of my usual reading comfort zone. Thanks to my sisters for our “out of our comfort zone book club.”
I really enjoyed this book. It follows two contestants on a food truck reality show competition, who just happen to have a history together. The author does a great job of weaving together their past and their present, in a way that hints at what happened but drops in the flashbacks as the present story needs them, rather than all at once - or starting then and skipping to now.
The book also makes you hungry, as the author describes lots of mouth-watering dishes that the contestants make. Maybe she could do a spin-off cookbook too?
The only issue I had with this story was the ending, and I don't want to give away spoilers (although it's a romance so I'm guessing you can figure out the ending just by reading the blurb) - but if someone was a jerk to me, I'd hold that grudge forever.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!
I love a good humorous romance and Food Fight! delivers. The characters are relatable, from Charlie (who still battles occasional leftover adolescent insecurities even though she's grown into a successful, mostly confident adult), to Drew (who struggles to overcome his own past, both internally and with those who know him), to the lovable Lulah (Charlie's funny, supportive best friend). As a foodie who's hooked on every kind of food TV, I loved the story line of the best-chef competition. The stakes are so high for both of them, I found myself rooting for both Charlie and Drew. I'm already looking forward to more from Thea Lambert--so glad this is book one of more to come!
I would love to know some of the recipes mentioned in the story because they sound so good. While our present life is built from our past experiences it does not mean we can not grow and change ourselves from what we once were. And of course, love conquers all.
This is just just The Great American Food Truck Race tv show, just in book form and with romance sprinkled throughout. I found myself smiling and giggling throughout the book and finished this book in just a few days only reading while I was supposed to be working.
while i do wish it was dual pov, it almost was in a third person way. i loved the story line but i didn’t love the ending as much. the winner of the show was in the epilogue and then the epilogue itself was sort of well bland. overall 4.15/5
