During the day, I work for Dylan Mccallister. The hunky billionaire who became CEO of his own company at thirty. He may be one of the hottest men I’ve ever met in my life, but he’s also the boss from hell. He has dazzling blue eyes that pierce into your soul and freeze your heart. He’s a known womanizer.
I call him AB to my friends aka Asshole Boss. He’s grumpy, demanding, and rude. And that’s on a good day. He’s definitely the worst boss ever.
The only reason I’m still his secretary is because I have debt up to my eyeballs; thanks to student loans and an ex that conned me into letting him use my credit cards. I’m counting down the days until I can quit and tell him to get his own coffee and lobster rolls. My calendar says that between both my jobs, I only need to work for him for three more months.
You see, Mr. Mccalister has no idea that I, his “mousey little secretary” has a night job just so I can quit as soon as possible.
That is until I end up at a bachelor party for his brother.
I just couldn't wait for the book to be done. I just couldn't make myself like Dylan at all. The things he would say to Abby were not sexy. They hadn't even built any real foundation to their relationship and he would just say things that were such a turn off. It just had me thinking if someone said that to me, he would get slapped and I would never see him again. He would always say something raunchy and when she got offended he would talk about how much he was paying her. He figured he could get away with it. Not a fav.
I have never read a book that was so bad it gave me whiplash. She hates him, she likes him, she hates him, she likes him. Then he wants to pretend that he’s a hard a$$ and then completely crumbles and then all of a sudden is in love with her. The spicy scene fell so flat, I felt so let down by the incredibly slow build up. I felt like I wasted my time with this horrible book.
Reviews say this authors books are good but I've read multiple of hers now and they are all just awful. It's not just that this is a bad one they are all the same. The conversation between people does not flow and is very awkward. sometimes it's hard to even figure out who's talking. The women in these books always act very immature and irresponsible. The ending always feels rushed and they go from hating each other to in love in like 2 pages. don't waste your time even trying. These books are awful
Fun, laugh out loud easy read. When your annoying broody but hot boss drives you crazy. You say you hate him but you want him so bad. Lol. And trust me he feels the same way. But he has he defences up because life has not been kind to him. Dylan and Abby was meant for each other. The banter was funny. It annoyed me at times, came off sometimes childish. But for the most part, I liked the story. I love the HEA as well.
This is one of the most immaturely written books I’ve ever read. The characters are supposed to be late twenties/thirties, but the amount of cringey conversations and back and forth almost had me DNF this book many times. How disappointing.
2 stars (possible spoilers ahead) h goes to work for H as his PA. From H’s POV, we learn he thinks h is ugly. He dates 10s, and at best, he thinks she is a 4. Good lord. 🙃 Is that supposed to make me like him? She’s not like other girls, though. bArF What job tells an employee it’s best if she dresses frumpy?
He was a terrible boss. There’s no way in the real world, ANY OF THAT would fly. Like….a walking literal HR violation Most of H’s POV spends too much time comparing h with all the hot models he has previously hooked up with. He always mentions how they are THIN but h is THICK or CURVY
The banter was cringe at times, but sometimes…it was funny. I’m not sure if it was because some of it made no sense considering their age.
The dialogue between all the women was painful. No friend group talks like that. I also got annoyed every time it mentions how happy and in love Isabelle is. (MC from previous book)
The plot line of popping out of the cake- 😬 I get it’s supposed to be funny, but it was just odd. She’s making 25k a month as an PA, but she’s gonna go pop out of a cake for 1k. Then the other women working that party were made out to be smex workers. Ummm
There’s no spice until about 70% When he finally has smex with her, he “forgets” to wear a condom. She explains how she’s on birth control. What does he say to that? He’s glad because he didn’t want to give her a meal ticket. Wut?
The ending ruined what little I liked of this book. The found family in Scotland and the 180 H does with his feelings. Then it just abruptly ends. 🤪🤪🤪
Honestly, I’m not one to really complain about books that I read, even when my opinion is low. After all, a person has put their heart and soul into the writing and publishing, but what the fuck did I just read?
I started this last night and I got to page 229. So close to the end, but after going to sleep, I couldn’t force myself to continue in the light of day.
The blurb isn’t correct for what this story is about. Everything was rushed. The MMC’s age was wrong considering something we’d previously been told. The FMC was infuriating, and not at all appreciative of the fortunate position she’d fallen into. And her side hustle was a one time thing, and honestly, it made no sense! There were plot issues in this, ones that I found very irksome such as the days events were occurring.
To me, it felt like this was a first draft being put into the world without a single read through or edit.
And why is this book on here twice under different names?
This is a DNF for me. I like enemies to lovers and all the billionaires tropes, but this heavily misses the mark. I was excited to have a smartass FMC at first but then realized she just grossly accepts mistreatment and harassment because the MMC is hot? I had to stop after he invited himself to her families house after laughing in her face about her dreams to have a relationship like her parents. The characters are immature for almost 30 and is just so unrealistic it made it hard to get into.
The way the dialog is written is awful. Everyone is always taking over the "main" character or intentionally not understanding them & if I had a "friend" like Emma who wanted to focus on how hot my shitty toxic boss was over the fact that he was still an asshole I'd seriously reconsider that friendship & her choice of men. The storyline is cute & full of tropes but overall it was VERY annoying.
She should fire her editor, the story was all over the place. She, obviously, couldn’t decide which way to take it. It’s like opening your cabinet to makes a cake, but instead of picking out a few ingredients, you grab everything in the pantry and throw it in. Waste of money. Didn’t even get past half the story/book.
Good premise and some of the banter is fun. However, the writing feels rushed, the way the characters interact and speak is immature and the lead male is practically bi-polar in his behaviour but not in a charming way that you'd normally get in this genre. I don't like to critise but in this case I was disappointed.
DNF 23% honestly the plot was there but I couldn't get over the writing style or how the plot was progressing. Neither character is written well at all and the timeline from where she starts work and the club on the weekend is just...dumb. Feels like a highschool fan fiction.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I couldn't get into it. The story seemed very immature, it never really developed. Instead of a gradual story that grows, it just kind of throws it all out there in a chaotic jumble. Couldn't finish. If it was ever rewritten I'd give it another chance
The dialog was awful, the characters unlikable, and the story was rushed and drawn out at the same time. Will not be reading any more from this author and I truly cannot comprehend how they are a best-selling author. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
No cliffhanger Standalone Told from both POVs Boss/employee romance
I don’t even know where to begin. The summary of the book sounded like something I would love but I had to force myself to finish this book just so I could write an honest review.
From the very beginning the writing just wasn’t good. It was choppy, the back and forth banter was horrible, the female character was flighty, immature and annoying and the male character was creepy, rude and honestly gross.
I kept hoping he would redeem himself and the storyline would get better but it never did. He constantly said really dumb stuff and his “sexy talk” was just not good at all.
When they finally crossed the line it was the strangest transition from this is so inappropriate thing to all the sudden out of no where Abby was seducing him, but then he had to randomly make a call that lasted like 2 seconds and made no sense in the storyline.
I feel like I am rambling because I’m still just so confused by this book. There were so many bad things to be said about this book.
I’ve read this author before and liked their work so I have no idea what is going on but I recommend you save your money. Kinda wish I could ask for a refund honestly.
That’s it? It ended so abruptly. The guy was drunk when he confessed his love that I expected him to wake up and play like he didn’t remember. There was nothing after that. No epilogue.
For the story, it was okay. The girlfriends were annoying and brought out the VERY annoying side to the FMC. No one says “girl” in conversation as much as they do. The friends never let her finish a sentence and so the FMC took forever to get to the point…a point we already read about. So instead of the author making it a quick conversation, she drug it out for word fluff. To be honest, most of the conversations between the FMC, and anyone that wasn’t the MMC, felt like fluff. There was nothing worthy of needing to read. I feel like the author tries too hard with being that girls girl that she falls real short of the story. I’m glad to see this author has gotten better with grammar and I saw hardly any mistakes this time. Props!
Worst Boss Ever is a story about a grumpy-a$$ boss Dylan McCallister and his snarky and sassy secretary Abby Waldron.
Abby was in debt, took a job being a secretary for a CEO known for being a grumpy and cold, PS he goes through secretaries like underwear. Dylan grew up in foster care, he grew up with drive to make himself a billionaire. And has solid steel around his heart. Abby has bills to pay so she does what is needed for work. She has loving parents and believes in love.
You'll love Abby and Dylan’s fun banter and quick comebacks. The story is well written, character development is fantastic and oh the feels with steamy bedroom scenes. Will their different upbringing cause a rift between them? Will she tame the cranky man? Must read to find out!
I don’t really write reviews unless it was amazing or bad. And this one was not that great to me.
What is with the ending? I mean were they able to go back to NY and be a couple? Did they get married? How did he adjust with these new feelings? I feel like this was a cliffhanger with no continuance. Maybe I need to read the other books after this but I just don’t want to now because of this “cliffhanger”
SPOILER (so don’t read if you haven’t read it) They literally confessed thier love for each other and then the book ended. Like that doesn’t even make sense to me.
It had a good plot and characters but it was too many side conversations and the ending just sucked for me. I love books that are a series but they always end the characters story and then they do pop ups in the continuing series. Which I love.
This tried hard to be romance... It was so cheesy. The way he randomly hits on her and talks filthy to her after a week just doesn't make any sense. After a week she's the best secretary he's ever had. After like 2 weeks their in love. WtF this enemies to lovers trope went from from 0-100. It was so tropey and over the top.
Spoilers I guess, but I'm saving you time.
the mmc is disgusting. I can't figure out when she saw any qualities in him that would make her fall in love. And her side hustle to get away from him faster? He's paying her 25000 a month. Is that extra 2000 really going to do much? It was to just create a "no one else can touch you" type trope.
And the whole trip plot. Where did it even come feom? There is nothing leading up to it to imply that he was even looking for family. Everything is so awkward and back and forth.
I’m confused at which part the worst boss ever actually showed redeeming qualities that made Abby fall in love with him. It wasn’t when he was crude in the club or accused her of wanting a payday after they first slept together, or when he purposely hurt her after he met Barbara without an apology after. It just felt like a huge disconnect. He went from a creep that didn’t believe in love to sounding like a girl talking about his feelings. I think the author did not get into a male character perspective at all during Dylan’s last chapter. Honestly, it kind of sucked.
I really liked this book even though Dylan was one of those super arrogant playboys that knows he looks good and knows everyone wants him. I hate those guys lol.
I’d give this a 4.5 because I thought that the first 75% was really good. Unfortunately, as soon as Dylan admitted to himself that he loved Abby the book took off at warp speed. I don’t even think there was a true dark spot. Maybe a little one but it wasn’t really any different from any of their other interactions. Then it ended abruptly and didn’t give me an epilogue.
Besides those two things this was a 5 star read for me.
The author wrote the story well meaning no spelling errors or issues with grammer. However till the end there wasn't much there plotwise. The boss and secretary have no real conversations. It's all just him making sexual suggestions and her smarting off like a teenager. There are some conversations between roommates but that's it.
The characters aren't all well defined but some are.
I just couldn't get into it. To me there wasn't much of an actual story till the end when Aunt Barbara came into the picture.
So I wanted to like this book but a combo of the mmc being a bit too assholey for me, the fmc being a bit hollow feeling and the writing feeling really stilted and awkward put me off.
I did finish it and even by the end I feel like it was just missing some depth or emotion something. I swear I've reas this author before and not struggled like this but I dont know the writing style was rough for me and I considered dnfing a couple times.
I liked the female friends shown and I liked the idea of the plot I jsut wish it didn't feel so rushed and lacking depth.
