The structure seems pretty set now; each volume covers the entirety of one project. So volume 1 is their tv drama, volume 2 is the follow up film, and here we get through Shirasaki's first big stage play.

I still find it a little bit on the odd side, in terms of relationship development, because it means a lot of time is passing fairly quickly. But I suppose the primary drama in this series is about their career progression, rather than any instability in the romance itself.

While there's a little bit of messiness between the two of them here, with Shirasaki feeling jealous of Asami's playfully malicious college friend, and Asami feeling abandoned by a boyfriend who's wrapped up in his work and doesn't want to see him, there's no hint of either of them truly worrying about a breakup. They care about and understand each other well enough for gaps in their relationship to not make that big of a difference.

There actually isn't that much Asami in this volume, really. It's mostly Shirasaki struggling with having a director not like him or his performance, and wondering if his star has already burnt out. Between his struggles during rehearsals and his ad campaign getting assigned to someone else, he's running up against all the insecurities that are...honestly kind of inevitable in this progression.

The thing is, no matter how popular you get in the acting world, you can topple back to the bottom in an instant. It's exhausting - draining and all-consuming and disheartening - and is portrayed really well here. It makes me wonder, actually, why anyone would ever want to be in this profession, but Shirasaki does truly enjoy it, and there's such an intoxicating payoff when things do go well. That's the high that he'll keep chasing, I suppose.

He also, for some reason, decided that he'd been relying too much on Asami to get him through his low points, and decided to forge through all his troubles alone. Which, of course, makes Asami feel left out and unwanted...because he likes it when someone as independent and strong-willed as Shirasaki leans on him.

The scene when Shirasaki literally leaning against his shoulder while finally talking through his troubles and insecurities was honestly so lovely. The intimacy of their relationship is portrayed so well, even just in these small moments. I'm really enjoying this series and am glad I gave it a chance after the kind of wobbly first volume. It'll definitely be interesting to see where the story goes over time.

And I wonder if any of the side characters will get spinoffs? The bartender friend reminded me a lot of Love Nest's Hozumi; I wouldn't mind seeing more of him.

Sidenote: I find it very annoying how often the cover synopsis isn't actually accurate to what happens in a story. For one thing, they have not moved in together; Shirasaki moves into an entirely separate condo on the same floor in Asami's building, and they hardly see each other during this volume. That's an oddly sloppy mistake.

This volume focuses a lot on Shirasaki and his work struggles. Relationship wise, we see Shirasaki get a bit jealous of Hayama's bartender friend, and we see Hayama feeling pretty left out while Shirasaki is dealing with his insecurities and work stuff.

This was probably my least favorite volume of the series so far, but that doesn't mean I thought it was bad. It just felt a bit weaker than the other two to me. I think I'm wanting more relationship development and fewer insecurities at this point.

I still enjoyed it though and will continue when the next volume is out.

I like this one but damn, Shirasaki, pay attention to your damn boyfriend. You’re oblivious when he is trying to tell you he likes you, and you ignore him for days at a time just because it’s what YOU want, even if he wants to see you. Like damn. Shape up.
