When you’re the boss, a romance with your biggest client is out of the question. Right?
Max I’m determined to grow my landscape design business fast. It’s the only way to save the home that’s been in our family for generations. So when I land my biggest client ever, the new inn with a huge property, I know better than to get involved with the sexy owner. Besides, Brooke Winters is engaged, and I can’t risk stirring up drama in the small community I depend on for my business.
Brooke Have you ever had such bad luck with guys that you start wearing your sister’s old engagement ring as an anti-man shield? Just me? Anyway, it’s working and good thing too. I can’t afford a distraction when I’m the lead architect for the old farmhouse my sister and I plan to turn into an inn. Everything’s on the line, including our life savings. We have to open on time or lose our shirts.
Only I didn’t count on a gorgeous landscaper brightening every chaotic day with his distracting warm smile. Even my dog is in love with Max. I’m made of sterner stuff. Until I impulsively kiss him and—
Fireworks. I didn’t know they were a real thing.
Now I’m navigating a slippery slope, desperately trying to put up professional boundaries all while keeping our renovation project on schedule. This will either go down in a blaze of glory or a blazing hot mess.
This romantic comedy stands alone with a swoon-worthy happy-ever-after! No cliffhangers.

While her career is taking off, especially with her taking point in her inn’s renovation project, Brooke Winters’ love life has a lot to be desired. And so she decides to put on her sisters’ engagement ring as a shield against men. But keeping up the lie when faced with the irresistible Max is proving to be a challenge.
Max Bellamy, was exactly what his last name means: good friend. He’s also a good brother and just plain good although he carries some self-doubt he needs to work through. Wanting to grow his landscaping business, he snags his biggest project ever at the new inn owned by Brooke and Paige Winters. And though he knows he shouldn’t get involved with the gorgeous architect, ignoring their attraction once he realizes she’s not involved is just too tempting.
This story is utterly enjoyable. I loved Max and I especially loved Scout, Brooke’s golden retriever who gave this story extra adorableness.
Blazing is book #5 of the Unleashed Romance series by Kylie Gilmore. It is a standalone story told from both points of view and ends with a happy ending for the couple. Genres: Rom-com Tropes: small town | work place
★ I was given an ARC of this book courtesy of the author. The excerpts are from that copy. I am voluntarily reviewing this title. ★
This is Max and Brooke’s story. We met them in the previous book since Max is Sloan’s best friend and Brooke is Wyatt’s sister. Each of these characters is a good person but don’t believe they deserve a happy ending even though they both want one. Each of them have hang ups that they need to work through and the other is the exact person to help them do that. They are both sweet, hardworking people who love their family, community and the people they have chosen to surround themselves with. You can’t help but root for them as a couple because they are sweet together. I love the fact that they are both have their own businesses and are working super hard to build them into something successful. They are each other’s cheerleader and support too!
The reason for a 4 start rather than 5 star rating is I don’t really love Brooke. I like her but I don’t really love her and I really don’t like her sister Paige. In all of the sister’s scenes together, Paige comes off a tad b*tchy and I found my dislike overwhelming the scene snd taking away from the story. My issue with Brooke is that she is so drawn to Max and knows that she shouldn’t be mixing business with pleasure and yet she pushes to do so every chance she gets and instead of owning it, she gets insecure. That irritated me. Max tried to do everything right and behave appropriately but she made it hard for him to do so and he caved, then was upset with himself. I absolutely LOVED Max! He is everything good in a guy, even his insecurities and Brooke is a lucky lady! Even Scout knows how great Max is!
All in all I liked this story and am loving the series so far! The addition of the dogs is fun and different because they are characters in the story too! Can’t wait for more from this series!
Max is a landscape designer in small town Summerdale, being pressured by his brother Liam to sell their family home (occupied by Max) for the proceeds. He’s working to expand his business into the commercial field, all the more as Liam wants a financial commitment from him.
When he initially meets Brooke, she’s scraping off snow with a brush.
Brooke and Paige have bought an old farmhouse which they’re in the midst of renovating the property to welcome a B&B to the town. Brooke is an architect working at two jobs, overseeing their project and her paying architectural job. They’re excited to see their project become a successful joint venture, but the many challenges of a renovation and the costs involved become overwhelming with the financial risks they’ve undertaken. Max asks for an opportunity to bid for their landscaping contract.
Brooke is immediately attracted to him, but her track record with men have made her gun shy and cautious in trusting her judgement. So, she wears Paige’s old engagement ring as a deterrent to ward off men. Overhearing a conversation between Brooke and Paige about the ring, he realises her engagement is a ruse.
Max is under duress from his brother Liam wanting financial independence for his girlfriend and himself from the sale of the family property, whereas Max is emotionally tied to the only home he’s known. The home left to him and his siblings.
While Max is attracted to Brooke, she is juggling too many commitments to have time for a romance. Plus, being involved with someone signing your paycheques is a definite conflict of interest. It wouldn’t be smart to get involved with your biggest client. But he does.
They hire Max to do the landscaping for the B&B. Both Max and Brooke think getting entangled with a business associate is a bad idea, which becomes fraught with conflict.
Max and Brooke’s love story in Blazing: A Workplace Romantic Comedy by Kylie Gilmore, book five in her Unleashed Romance series, is a story of two people who don’t believe they deserve a happy ending, despite wanting one. Brooke is on an anti-man kick, wearing her sister’s old engagement ring, while Max was under duress, needing to make some major decisions regarding the home his parents left him and his siblings, business, and his future. While Max is attracted to Brooke, she is juggling too many commitments to have time to spend with him. In addition, Brooke is signing his paychecks and it wouldn’t be smart to get involved with your biggest client; or would it? Max and Brooke are sweet, caring, hardworking individuals who love their families, community, and the people they have chosen to be friends with. There is a definitely spark, lots of chemistry, and magnetic attraction between them. You want to cheer them on and hope they work out, because they are perfect together. Now all they need to do is stop listening to Brooke’s sister, Paige, who is not supportive of them or accepting of anything else.
Ms. Gilmore wrote a wonderful and moving story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, fireworks, magnetic electricity, amusing banter, and charming secondary characters giving Max and Brooke a chance at love, happiness, and the possibility of a forever together. I highly recommend Blazing to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Max is trying to grow his landscaping business as quickly as he can. He is trying to save the house he grew up in where he currently lives. It was left to him and his brother and his brother wants to sell for the money.
Brooke is working on renovating an old farmhouse into an Inn. She is lead architect and is hiring contractors and yes, even a landscaper.
Max wants this job. It will be his biggest project yet, and it will help him buy out his brother for their family home.
The attraction is immediate, however Brooke is sporting an engagement ring on her left hand. She is off limits. Brooke struggles to fight her attraction to Max, because you see, the ring is her sister's old ring that Brooke wears as a deterrent to keep the wrong guys away. She keeps reminding herself that she is "engaged" and cannot get involved.
Can the two work together and learn to trust each other enough not to get hurt?
Another Great read by Kylie Gilmore. Her characters are relatable and lovable and I always find myself rooting for them.
I loved Max and Brooke’s story - their emotions were so palpable, I was right there feeling all the things with them. This is the 5th book in the Unleashed Romance series and it’s a standalone. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steamy, a bit of hilarity, cute pets, family drama, swoony moments, and heart squeezing love all mixed with just a tiny bit of angst. Max owns a landscaping business in small town Summerdale. He is trying to grow his business and knows getting a commercial client is the way to do that. Brooke bought a B&B to renovate with her sister. They hire Max to do the landscaping for the B&B. Both Max and Brooke think getting involved with a business associate is a bad idea but their attraction is too hard to ignore. On their way to their HEA, they each must deal with their own issues in order to build a strong, healthy and respectful relationship with each other. With Blazing, Kylie Gilmore again proves she a master of sweet, swoon worthy tales. I can’t wait to read Paige’s story next.
I am so in love with this series! Kylie never disappoints with each new book in this series! 5 amazing stars for this! Max is a design landscaper. He's working to grow his business and step into commercial field. When he meets Brooke, whose redoing an old farmhouse to turn it into an inn with her sister, he's immediately taken with her. He'll do anything to get the job to do their landscaping. Brooke is an architect, and she's excited to take the lead on this project with her sister. When she meets Max, she's instantly attracted to him, but her track record with men makes her afraid to trust her judgement. Follow their story as these two try to work together and yet keep their attraction to a minimum while working on the project. This series has been so good, each new book brings a new story you will love, but can be completely read as a standalone! I say why not just start at the beginning and enjoy it! Don't miss out, grab this one asap!
I love this series by Kyle Gilmore. She never disappoints and I love that she includes dogs this time. Summerdale is becoming one of my favorite places to book visit. Max and Brooke's story is so fun. Max is a landscape owner trying to grow his business and Brooke is co-owner of the new B&B, which is currently undergoing renovations. After removing the snow from her driveway, he begins to pitch the idea of doing the landscaping for the property. Though he is instantly attracted to Brooke, the fact that she's engaged keeps him away. As well as his feelings that he's irresponsible like his dad and not cut out for marriage and family. Throw in the fact his brother is pressuring him to sell his beloved home, he really needs this job. He gets the job and doesn't let himself act on his attraction for Brooke. But what happens when he finds out that Brooke isn't really engaged? Let the fun begin!! I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Max knows this is his opportunity to really grow his landscape design business. He just needs to land the property that’s being renovated into an inn. Not only will this job propel his small business from residential to commercial clients too, it’ll help him keep his family home.
Brooke knows she can handle the renovation of the old property and turn it into a thriving inn with her sister. Working at it part-time, having sunk her life’s savings into the project, plus working remotely several days a week from her bread and butter job as an architect, that’s the stressful part.
Max and Brooke are genuine people with real problems and goals. They’re focused enough to get the job done! Provided they can keep their hands off each other. As professional as they try to be while working together, sparks can’t help but be noticed.
Fun to be that fly on the wall. Another enjoyable, great read from Kylie!
Kylie Gilmore's Unleashed Romance series is addicting. We always get new couples to root for while being able to catch up with past favorites. Blazing is all about Max and Brooke. We met Max in a previous story, and have seen glimpses of Brooke up until now. In Blazing, they're front and center.
I love it when two people begin to let go of their past and make way for a future. This is exactly what Max and Brooke had to do, and watching that unfold was perfect. These two are a great match. The ending was exactly what they deserved and I loved it!
I'm also eagerly awaiting Audrey and Drew's story, because in each and every book, we get a glimpse that there is something going on with those two. And I'm ready for Paige, too! She came off as a little grumpy in this story, so I'm eager for her back story and to see how love changes her.
Blazing is a well written romantic comedy that brought a smile or two to me lips and might have brought a tear or two also. The characters were so darn easy to like and not to mention Scout he was a real treat. I really enjoyed this story from the talented Kylie Gilmore and this is a great series with lots of fun and love and wonderful characters. Max and Brooke have some great chemistry but they are working together so can it stay professional between them. Max sees the engagement ring on Brooke's finger so he knows he needs to stay away. Brooke is tired of always finding the wrong men so she wears her sister's engagement ring as an anti man shield. But she never expected the handsome landscaper. This is just the start to a fun and romantic story. I loved this book and I highly recommend it.
The purpose of Thrifty Thursday is to read a book which was free (at some point).
Blazing is in the Unleashed Romance series by Kylie Gilmore. The setting is Summerdale, New York, a small lakeside town, about an hour and a half outside New York City.
Max is very attracted to Brooke, but he believes that she is engaged. That plus the fact that he works for her plus his belief that he is irresponsible like his father all add up to make her off limits. But she seems to be attracted to him, too. And her dog adores Max. Crazy stuff starts to happen, and the obstacles don't seem so big any more. Brooke believes that she should stay away from Max, but he is such a good guy. After a string of losers, he seems perfect. She convinces herself that she can do just a fling, but that may not really be the case. Max and Brooke are a very funny couple. They have good banter and great chemistry. They also have mistaken beliefs about themselves, and they help each other see the truth. It is very romantic.
Max and Brooke (who we have met in previous books) finally get their own story...Max is working as a landscape designer at Brook's new Bed and Breakfast. Of course there are major chemistry, tension and misunderstandings on both sides (employer/contractor, she wears an engagement ring, they both have family issues) and she has a nutty dog who loves Max and causes all kinds of crazy shenanigans! Don't worry they eventually get their HEA and you will laugh and cry along the way - you will want to read ALL of the books in the series and I personally can't wait for the next one!
Blazing is a sizzling hot love story between Brooke and Max. This couple are both anti relationship until they meet and the chemistry is off the charts!! Like magnets they are drawn together!! I loved this couple and this series!! I really enjoyed catching up with the other people in Summerdale and can't wait for Brooke's sister Paige and Chef Spencer's book next!! If you love small town romance than this author is definitely for you!! I could not put this book down and recommend that you go grab this stand alone copy and enjoy today!!
Brooke and her sister are renovating an older building and turning it into a B&B. Max is a professional landscaper working for Brooke. The two of them have a great working relationship but are fighting the chemistry so they can keep things professional. But that's so much easier said than done.
I loved every stolen moment, every little quip, and every interaction with Brooke's dog with Max.
This book had me sucked in within the first few chapters and I just couldn't put it down. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Max and Brooke meet while Max is working for Brooke. These two try to keep things professional, but get carried away. When Brooke's sister, Paige, finds out she gets really upset. Paige tries to fire Max, but Brooke lets him finish the job. Max also has to sell the family home, since his brother needs the money for his farm. Max has to make some hard decisions and Brooke doesn't know about Max growing up and how it's affected him. Brooke realizes she made a mistake, but isn't sure how to fix it. This was such a good book! Love Brooke and Max!
Max is contracted by Brooke, and her sister, Paige, to landscape the grounds of the estate they are turning into a bed and breakfast. Brooke is overseeing the contractors on the estate. When the two are together, the attraction is so hot, they can't keep their hands off each other. Add in Brooke's loving Golden Retriever Scout, and Scouts attraction to Max, and you have a Five Star RomCom that will have you laughing for hours. You don't want to miss it.
Blazing is a throughly charming and entertaining story! There is intense chemistry between Max and Brooke with conflicts of a fake fiancé, Brooke as Max’s boss and the stress of remodeling the inn co-owned with Brooke’s sister. Blazing is witty, humorous and romantic. I loved all the antics the Brooke’s dog and you will chuckle. I could not put this book done and looking forward to the next book in the series. I received this book as an arc for an honest review of it.
Max just took on his biggest client in order to save his family home. He needs to get this job done and collect his paycheck quickly. However, keeping it "professional" with his new client is proving to be more difficult that it should. We've met both Brooke and Max earlier in this series and now its finally their turn for romance. Blazing is book 5 in the Unleashed Romance series by Kylie Gilmore. A fun romantic comedy! Loved it!
Charming is only a page turn away. With a hint of spice and an adorable sprinkling of heart, Blazing is a welcome distraction. Gilmore tempts with humor and captures with emotion. Cuddle up with a little bit clueless, an abundance of heart and a never ending dash of meddling family and you can't help but fall in love.
I’m sorry I struggled to read this novel. Very disjointed and didn’t flow very well. The angst didn’t work and Brooke went from no romance/relationship to sleeping with Max so quickly. This installment is a hard no for me. Not interested in buying the other book in the series. Disappointed.
Another great story!! It’s fun and heartwarming. I was captivated from the beginning with its lovable characters. I loved the connection, banter and flying sparks. It’s an entertaining read and great way to escape for everyday stress.
Loved this sweetly sexy, laugh out loud and emotionally thrilling adventure filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twists and undeniable passion. Was a fun and highly entertaining journey from beginning to end.
Brooke picks terrible men, but blames the men and now wears a fake engagement ring. Max believes because his dad was terrible its in his genes. He is actually a caring person trying to keep his business afloat and his siblings happy. Brooke is wishy-washy and her sister mean.
This series is awesome! True sibling relationships, great friends and romance with dogs included! I want my yard done by him! My remodel planed with her help , I want to visit this inn !
Her dog knew what she didn't. That Max was the man for her. But this was not going to be easy as Max is a paid contractor for her and her sister. Somehow, she has to keep it professional
This was a heart warming story of finding yourself and Building on your strengths with a very nice ending. I feel anyone that likes a sweet, feel goid romance will enjoy the book.
