I woke up to a changed world, and saw the sunrise for the first time. The covenant is broken, but the empty throne creates a powerful temptation. Am I to be a queen, or a rebel assassin? Who has the right to make that judgement? When my mortal enemy usurps command of the king's army and sends them after me, I journey to distant compounds seeking allies. I'll do anything to save my siblings from Nigel's grasp, but how many lives will be in danger - immortal or otherwise - before humans and their vampire masters settle their differences? Live together, die apart. But which race will survive long enough to define the new future?
Emily Sharrow was the young rebel who had escaped from the citadel after being named a chosen and who had killed the king and shut off the ash producing machines thus giving the people the freedom to breath clean air for the first time and enjoy the sun. However not everyone was happy with what the rebels where trying to bring about in their society, where many believed they needed those who used them as blood banks, the elites. Emily was chosen by the Prince himself and he had helped her kill his father and now travelled with the rest of the rebel group seeking allies in the different compounds. Danger was all around them as elites hunted them in the name of Nigel, the usurper to the throne who was adamant that no matter how many mortals died he would retain the citadel in it's usual format, one which favoured the elite. How many needed to die before Emily either saw her dream for a free society come true or gave up on her dream? This book reminds me a lot of The Hunger Games, whereby one young courageous woman is ready to face such enormous obstacles and risks in order to gain freedom. Emily is so like Katniss, I love her and hope she succeeds. Cannot wait to read the final book in this very thrilling vampire series especially after such a despairing ending to this book!
I’m broken. I don’t remember the last time I boohoo sobbed like this. I’m actually emotionally exhausted from this series and this book in particular. It was good and pulled me back in after not loving book 2 but for that reason it’s left a fatal blow. I had so much to say but I’m numb now from the events of the last 25%. Idek that I will be present for the final book but I need to continue and be done with the series because I can’t think about it anymore. I made a jokey joke and I hate that the author took that seriously and actually did it, now I have a headache from crying.
Ngl, it was kindna mid. There was no real action until the last 10 pages and i felt everything that happened was rather predictable. It sum it up it was travelling everywhere to find allies with an interlude of sex and at the end the death of one of the 6 characters in the main group so ar least one thing interesting happened. Also one of the characters had a random name change mid way through but then switched to the name used in previous books later on. I was really disappointed woth this one and only want to continue the series to see if Emily's siblings are still alive.
The pace was a lot slower in this book but I loved watching them explore the old world. Damien really came out of his shell and when he did, boy, it was swoon worthy. I did feel like I spent a lot of time reading about them washing, changing clothes and traveling. I wish there was a little bit of that cut out but overall, I loved seeing the new compounds, getting to see their culture. Just wish Em could catch a break. Maybe next book!

Another easy to listen to book in the series so far. In this instalment we see a lot of political maneuvers and gains, alongside some action and a lot of travelling. I feel a lot is happening at the same time a lot isn't, but the story is still interesting enough for me to start the next book, especially after the latest cliffhanger. So much is riding now on this final book in the series, and I am committed enough to finish it off and see how all things pane out.
I really enjoyed this book. This series has been good. Can't wait for the next book. It really leaves you wanting more. I would recommend this book and series. I don't tell what is in the books I read. That is for you to read and find out. Off to my next adventure.
For me, the pace on this one was a little bit slower than the first two. I still really love the world that we are living in in the story, and I am enjoying watching Emily grow as a character. The new constraints for the vampires are an interesting element, but the lack of action in the story kept it in the three star zone for me.
Damn this was dull! It ended very exciting but if you are old enough to remember the Muppets, it was like Uncle Traveling Max, tells the most boring story ever. There were glimmers of a good tale however the travel was **yawn** dull. I have too much time invested not to finish the series. Hope the finale is worth it.
Post apocalyptic, humans ruled by vampires, it felt like everything was very rushed and the main character was kind of dim.
I don't have anything better to say from one book to the next. I didn't like the writing of any of them. Also, the super happy scenes and the death scenes in this one were not treated well.
I absolutely love this series!! I can't stop reading!! The character development is beyond amazing!! Each and every book keeps you on the edge of your seat!! The plot is so amazing! Definitely a must read in my opinion!!!!
The series really seems to have jumped shark a bit. Each one seems to get more and more complex while being completely predictable that nothing will ever go right.
