It’s annoying when the ‘h’ is stuck and pinning over the ‘H’ after they’ve been together, but he has no problem hooking up with OW.

This trope is so overused it’s fricken ridiculous already!

Evil StepBrother Can the Elite Boys come To Josie’s Rescue

Josie James and her mother are not on good terms.

After the break up of her parents Momma James has moved on to greener pastures
.
Within months of meeting, SHE is about to marry “Steven Patterson, Elmwood’s most eligible bachelor,”
Not only does Josie get a stepdad, but! A step brother, Carter.

And Carter’s interest in Josie isn’t the type a step brother should be showing in a new sister.

At the wedding, Josie is angry, peed off, and very, very drunk.

While wallowing in her hurt and anger, her attention in drawn to the handsome boy staring at her from across the table.

His name? …Brock Taylor.
He’s all Aqua eyes, cheekbones, full lips and sharp jawline. ( aren’t they all )
And it’s not long before these two are dragging each other into a room to bang out their lustful feelings.
Of course the icing on the ‘wedding cake’ IS that Josie’s Mom interrupts the horny couple.
Josie is thrilled that she managed to upset her Self centred, gold-digging Mom on her big day.

Cut to weeks later Josie’s enjoying a day out shopping with bestie Ainsley, and spots a SUV full of gorgeous guys and IG perfect girls.

Turns out these boys are Elite, and rule Elmwood Academy ( don’t they always in these books)

One boy in particular catches Josie’s eye, the driver, one Brock Taylor, the same Brock Taylor that she had her one night stand with at the wedding , thinking she would never see him again.
Ainsley spills the tea, on the boys informing her that Brock is the alpha of the group.
Followed by Micha the platinum haired playboy,
Then there’s Grayson the moody one
And
Fynn the guy everyone seems to like the most.

So, as Josie starts at her new school she has to navigate the awkwardness that is Brock, and the Elite.
However the Elite boys aren’t about to let her off the hook so easily, as Brock begins to pursue her.
Of course his interest in Josie upsets Brock’s band of groupies, the stand-by girls, in particular Ava ( the typical high school mean girl)

So as Josie’s mother’s behaviour becomes more demanding at home, Carter ( the bad guy) sexually harassment her picks up, to the point where he attacks her.

Thus, this drama all unfolds in the school car park post football game, bringing the Elite boys to Josie’s rescue, signalling the beginning of the Elite taking her into the fold, with Brock informing her that “she is theirs”.

So the rest of the story revolves around Josie and the boys trying to bring down Carter and his abhorrent behaviour towards women.
For the Elite, this is personal as Carter was involved in assaulting Greyson’s sister Kenna two years previous.

While this is happening we have the backstory of Josie’s social climbing mother, trying to drag her daughter into the country club set.
And the ongoing friction this causes the two

This storyline wasn’t bad, however I found Josie, at times, acted like a brat.
Also there were times when I was way ahead of the plot like this scenario-

When Josie nearly got hit by a car and the driver, Brock got out and said “ You’ve got to be kidding me”
I was thinking the same thing!
I knew it was going to be him the moment Josie saw those headlights.

“It wasn’t every day I nearly got hit by a car and ended up drunk once again with Brock Taylor. Though really, with the way my life went, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise.”

No. It shouldn’t, as this girl is an expert at letting her emotions rule her and making stupid decisions.

It’s fascinating in these stories how many female characters let guy’s off the hook for their behaviour because, they subconsciously want to hook up with them/ be their girlfriend.
You know it’s all about the eyes, the jawline and the full mouth

Also
I found for seventeen and eighteen years old, they do a heck of a lot of alcohol consuming.
Another point of interest was, when Josie starts talking about being in LOVE with Brock…she’s only seventeen, …SEVENTEEN!!!

And.

Can she please, PLEASE quit banging on about how “gorgeous” Brock is all the time?
It was getting sooo repetitive.

Hopefully by the next book she will have calmed down her libido a bit.
She just looks at him and she has a throbbing core and gets wet….hahaha!

Alright....I hate read this book after the first few chapters....which is not a healthy thing to do but I wanted to finish it even if it was such a bad time.

I apologies to the author in advance, I don't think you made a bad book. In fact, for New Adult I think this is perfect. I was just not the target audience and I don't think I ever would have been. All of my critiques work the best in the style chosen but unfortunately I am gonna let people know my true thoughts.

Apology out of the way. The characters were the single most annoying thing I have ever had to read for more than 100 pages. As a "true" adult, none of the actions make any sense whatsoever. The book gave me the vibes it was trying to replicate a Pretty Little Liars type of vibe and just flopped majorly. Josie is so one-dimensional that reading from only her perspective grated on my nerves so much that I was wanting to rip my eyeballs out and stop reading. She really gave off "pick me" vibes and made the absolute worst decisions. I wanted to feel for her since she's getting bullied and the whole creepy step-bro shit was going down but she was also soooo bratty and self-centered to the point she was actively putting herself in horrible situations because she could not for the life of her chose better life choices that I was just done with her. I think if she had been a bit more developed as a character she would have been fine but the whining really cut me from liking her. I sympathized with her for her situation with her step-bro but I did not like her.

The "Elites" were totally not even that powerful. Whatever type of ruling they did was pretty mild at best. Dangerous? wouldn't say they were. Yeah they beat the shit out of one dude but not once did they completely destroy someone. Whatever they were trying to portray fell absolutely flat. None of them were likeable and even understandable. At best I would say they are way too fucking pushy and do not take no for an answer which with the plot points this has is not good and kinda puts them with the antagonist because while I enjoy morally grey characters they weren't and they still had this shitty attitude.

Also the twist at the end was just dumb in this setting. The plot was sub par due to it not being flushed out more. Most of the writing was based on Josie's thoughts and feeling which did not reflect a lot on the plot until about the 70% mark which was way too close to the ending to be good.

The writing style was good. There were writing mistakes which I normally don't comment on since my grammar, etc. is utter trash when writing reviews but there was more than I normally would see. The biggest downfalls were the characters and what the writer thought was important compared to what actually was interesting. I think it had the potential to be a great book but as it is now, I cannot see why it has such a high rating.

Since I personally disliked the book, I cannot recommend this to anyone nor will I be continuing the series.

Absolutely Amazing!!!! Edge of My Seat!!!

This book is absolutely incredible!!! I was looking for a good back and forth, something that would have me on the edge of my seat the entire book and this is sooooo that and so much more.

Josie, Brock and the Elite boys are fantastic!!! I wasn’t sure at points if they were on her side or where the story would go. The twists and turns through me. And then the ending, eeeekkk, my jaw is on the floor!

Brock, Grayson, Micah and Fynn are incredible characters. We just skimmed the surface with them. I need more. Heck even Josie is a mystery to me!!! I am loving this authors writing and how she has me sucked in!!! I need more asap!!!

What a way to start a series josie and bricks chemistry is just something else. Her mother is a grade A b*tch and without all the money her new husband threw at the judges there’s no other way she would have kept custody of Josie

That ploy twist at the end though OMG

I like this so far but I struggle with some of the glaring plot holes, assumptions these kids make that make so sense and how ineffective the "Elite" seem to be.

I like Josie, I liked the beginning of this a lot. I hope it holds up or gets better through three books.

This is just what I needed! This book sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down! Seriously forget responsibilities.

It was just the right amount of everything nothing over the top with twists, turns, and surprises all the way up to the end with a killer cliffhanger. The series is complete so no worries!

Josie is strong most would want to break under the circumstances she is put in. Brock is so frustrating at first but hold on tight he will win you over. The over 3 elite are the perfect combination of sweet, playboy (but funny), and grumpy. All over the top protective! Mads and Ain’s are two best friends a girl definitely needs by her side!

I won’t get into her mom OY! Stepfather or her stepbrother you will just have to read it. I definitely recommend reading it!!

No, no, no, no, no. That cliffhanger!

Turmoil is fan-flipping-tastic! I absolutely love that JL Weil is branching out and writing different genres...this one was a definite win. I've read a few High school/College Bully romances and some have worked and some just had me scratching my head. This book absolutely WORKED! The characters' actions and reactions are completely believable for the setting they're in.

I really cannot wait for what happens next (thankfully the next book arrives in July!) 'cause that was a helluva cliffhanger, JL.

Huge thank you to JL Weil via Literary Bound Tours for the copy to read and honestly review!

This is the first book written by J.L. Weil that I've read+. Somehow I have skipped this author... maybe that is because she has written mostly paranormal books and I am in my HS/bully romance period; however, I am surprised how much I enjoyed this book, which means that I'll try other books written by this author.

Ok - let's speak at least a little about the book:

I'd like to dedicate the first few sentences of the review to those who think that the book is similar to other author's books - yeah, it is so, but more or less all HS Bully books are comparable. They basically go around the same themes, the main heroes are bast***s with or without money etc. Sometimes there is a stepbrother/stepparent/absent parent in the equation, sometimes there is not. However, the important things in these books are: the angst, the passion, the connection between the protagonists, its believability, the possibility to justify the actions of the bully (if the bully is either FMC or MMC) etc. as well as some kind of freshness to the story. Those are the things, which decide whether I enjoy the book or not. This book had it all and what I liked the most is that the Elite were not the main bullies here. I adored Micah and Flynn the most, but Brock (and this is very common in this type of books) crept closer while the story was evolving.

Josie was pretty strong heroine, she wasn't unnecessary cruel towards future GFs, but still she had that inner strength that most heroines of bully books miss.

I loved how fierce were her GFs. I'd like to read some of their stories as well.

It was fun and quick read and I will definitely grab the second book to see what that epic cliffy will bring.

*I received and ARC from the author's team and expressed opinion is my own.

WOW!

I ate this book up from the beginning!

Josie (heroine) has just the right amount of sass and attitude without going too far into the realm of annoying or chaotic.
This book is easy to read, spicy and engaging.
I’m excited to learn more about Josie and her guys.
The cliffhanger though 👌🏼 didn’t see that coming whatsoever.
Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

A dark high school romance. I get what the author was trying to do but I felt like Josie had more of a relationship with the other guys than the hero.

This is the second book this week that I thought the second book was already out and as I go search for book 2 and find out that IT ISN'T!!!! I AM GUTTED lol. So this is my first book by this author (as I do not really care for paranormal), but this is a series I will be continuing. To me this is a classic academy, bully, reverse harem romance. Just so much fun!

Josie has to move as her mom remarried to a rich man, so it is time to for new town, new school, and new people. Of course, her stepbrother is a complete jerk who hates her (conflict 1). Then she catches the attention of the Elite. They are the quintessential kings of the school. Throughout the book secrets are revealed and some are kept to make you asking what is going on.

Josie is an idea MFC. She is tough, no nonsense, take no bs from people (including her mom).
Brock is the classic rich, badboy with a little chip on his shoulder. Of course the other guys in the group round out the group. Broody, moody and one with the 'all about the good times mentality.'

And that CLIFFHANGER!!!! Like I said at the top, I thought book 2 was out, so imagine my shock when I finished it with that massive cliffhanger to find out book 2 doesn't come out till later this month!!!!! You know an author is good when she gives you the craziest cliffhanger and reveal then just stops and says THANK YOU FOR READING lol. OMG, I just need book 2 please!

It started out okay. But the whole “she’s not that kind of girl” was so stupid when she obviously is. Shes supposedly badass, but overreacts and complains constantly. It seemed like every person in this book switched their personalities each chapter, the mother and FMC the most. And what’s it about these books having a scarred character that died or was hurt in some way and is no longer around that looks identical to the FMC? 🙄 stupid.
I hate how easily the FMC gives in to the MMC. And it’s really annoying when they keep name dropping new characters like we should know them. I was honestly completely lost on who the eff sawyer (I think that’s the name) was when he was brought up a second time because he was barely spoken about at like the beginning. It was insignificant. Then the FMC is thinking about Trevor. I think it’s the waiter? But like why? It’s confusing putting more names out into the book when we already have so dang many as it is! I was confusing the best friends immediately. Getting a little sidetracked when Josie was called Josephine. (Also firefly) or when the mom would be called one of the three different names (one being mom, but only sometimes). It’s just a lot. And annoying.

Then there’s the amount of times something is repeated. Yeah, we get that Carter is a creep and you don’t wanna be near him. Yeah, we get that you’re “not that kind of girl” but really are. Yeah, we get that you don’t want to want Brock. We also get that you just want your family back and your mom doesn’t believe anything you say. Good gravy that’s like the whole book right there. Rinse and repeat the same things. Add in some sex scenes.

If you enjoy steamy, drama-filled reads, with a dose of suspense and a cliffhanger ending then this book is for you.

Review Summary: J.L. Weil is one of my top authors to read as well as follow on Instagram. Despite struggling to connect with the characters for a large portion of the book, the last third grabs your attention and drives a need to find out what happens. This is a cliffhanger ending and I absolutely will be reading book #2 (wish I could start it today!), but mostly from pure curiosity as opposed to being invested in the characters.

The Details:I was so excited to read this new series and wanted so badly to be immediately hooked, unfortunately, I really struggled to connect with the characters for the first half to two-thirds. I immediately picked up on the similarities to The Royals series by Erin Watt, which I loved, but that almost served as more of a distraction than to make me feel invested in these characters.

By the second half to last third, I was hooked on the story itself and while the big ending scene and cliffhanger event didn't quite hit the mark, I definitely wish book two was ready to go and can't wait to read it and see what happens.

I’m honestly surprised that this podcast - high rating.
I tried to read past 15% of the book, but couldn’t.
Let’s start with our main character, she’s basically a bratt, even if her mum is mean or a golddigger, she acts way too immature and uncaring and filled with anger out of nowhere.
Didn’t emphasised with her and honestly hated the book.
The couple of chapters I read were right thanks.

Theoretically, I was supposed to care about any of these characters. The two main characters didn't really even interact until 75% of the way through. The FMC is super moody and hates everyone and hates everything. Where was the enemies to lovers? Where was the romance? Horrid.
Finished only to have it on my number count. For some reason.

Being in my 30’s and the fact she is 17 yr gave me the feeling of being a prev with the opening few pages of her getting drunk and fucking a random male at her mothers wedding bc it would piss her off.

I originally thought they were adults, I was wrong, they are in their last year of high school. I changed that repeatedly in my head - only way to finish the book

It’s about what being rich and privileged can mean and that include sexual assaults, physical assaults and some nasty crap at high school that is over looked and justice isn’t served.

Bye, Greta - Greta Booklovers

“Only the best ideas were formed in the girls’ bathroom. Said no one ever.”

🍷Contemporary romance
🍷high school romance
🍷bully romance
🍷enemies to lovers
🍷forced proximity
🍷secrets and mysteries

Synopsis :
Josie’s mom is a horrible person and cheats on her dad, she remarries shortly after to a rich guy because she’s a gold digger. Josie meets a mystery guy at the wedding and as a typical teenager mad at her parents does, she rebels, by hooking up with said mystery guy. She then finds out that he is a part of the “elite”, a group of 4 guys that runs the private school she is about to start at. She wants to avoid them, but circumstances will not allow that at all as drama keeps happening all around her.

My thoughts :
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was a quick fun read in my opinion. I loved Josie’s rebellion honestly, because her mom is a horrible woman and I hated everything about her. Her step-brother is also a horror to read about, I really hope he gets his karma in the next few books. I will be continuing this story, mostly for the elite, because I am so interested in learning more of their stories. And I absolutely love Josie and Brock, I really hope they can work out their aversions to each other and just admit their feelings. & oh my god that cliffhanger? Jaw dropping. I cannot wait to check out the next book. They are all on Kindle Unlimited! I had this one though from the stuff your kindle day during December.

“Look at me,” he commanded. “I want to see you.”

What I loved about this book:
▶️The characters and their depth and their unraveling secrets.
▶️The bully romance aspect, I have become a huge fan of these recently.
▶️Josie standing up for herself. She doesn’t need a man to protect her, but she likes when they can, as she should.
▶️Fynn, oh my gosh, he deserves the world.
▶️The writing style of the author.

What I didn’t like:
⏹️The cliffhanger, that was completely unexpected and I am confused as to how that came about. I will wait to pass full judgment though until I see the reasoning behind it.
⏹️The step-brother, did he have to be that horrible? Especially while she had to sleep in the same home as him?
⏹️The dad barely being in the picture even though he wanted to be.

Read this book if:
- You love bully romances.
- You love suspense and mystery.
- You love strong female leads.
- You love dark haired broody men.
- You love broody men period.

Happy reading😊
