It’s 23rd March 2020 in the UK, and the prime minister has announced a country-wide lockdown.
Like everyone else in the UK, Lisa is forced to stay at home with her family.
Unlike everyone else in the UK, Lisa has just moved into a new house, and strange things keep happening.
Voices talking to her. Things being moved. And a rage that is growing inside of her – one that poisons her thoughts and creates an irrational hatred toward her family.
As the lockdown continues, she starts to wonder what’s the biggest threat – the disease, or the presence controlling her in her own home…
This is the new Blood Splatter Book from horror-master Rick Wood. If you like the paranormal, the supernatural and the scary, you will love Haunted House.
Not really sure on this, while the idea was ok, I found it difficult to stay focused on the story, the longer paragraphs repeating the prime ministers coronavirus speeches and some of the other repeated stuff left me thinking come on let’s get on with the story! But then on the other side of that I couldn’t give up and not finish the book as I wanted to know what happened. I don’t think this book was up to this authors usual standards and seemed rushed with what seemed like material added to make up word count, but will still continue to follow this authors work as have loved previous work.
Fun and entertaining. Tough to put down at times. But overall a bit clunky with some inconsistencies that detract from this otherwise smooth-sailing haunting tale. A few scenes were properly spooky.
This was an ok read, a bit odd in places especially when it came to the main characters blogs I felt like the author was trying to sell me something. 😂 Didn't really feel I got any closure on the ending either. I have more books on my kindle from this author and from what I've read of reviews they are all not like this one.
A really enjoyable modern horror story. I give it 4 stars however as I feel the build up was long and the main events where over very fast and the aftermath was minimal almost rushed. The story itself was very clever and the characters very relatable. Fun read.
This story of a haunted house is creepy shockingly scary. It splits between two timelines, the Second World War II and 2020 at the beginning of the lockdown. Would you survive lockdown in a haunted house? I know l wouldn't. The prime minister has announced a country-wide lockdown and Lisa and her family have moved into their new house, and due to the new lockdown rules starting they are all to stay at home. But staying safe in their new home a haunted home only time will tell.
Weird and strange stuff starts happening, items being moved or lost. Lisa hears whispering that nobody else can hear with devastating consequences. It is she losing her mind?
There is a character called Mrs Allen all I can say is she is vile, cruel, nasty, horrible I absolutely detested her. Things she made a young boy Billy do who is an Evacuee are horrible and awful, needless to say this author had me hating her. I loved this book and I struggled to put it down. Absolutely gripping. If you like creepy, scary and the paranormal this is the book for you.
I read and loved "The Sensitives" series by Rick Wood (and this comes from someone who avoids series like the plague. Now Haunted House came about and I'm reminded again why I like Rick Wood so much. It was just what I needed for my stressed out week. Not too complicated, not too convoluted, just a good old case of: Loving parents trying to rekindle their marriage, two sweet kids, new house on acres of land, isolation, no phones, no neighbors, mommy is starting to act scary and strange. Mommy is obsessed with the well in the garden. Hubby senses something is up when wifey brings a butcher knife to bed. Mommy is getting really, REALLY scary. An easy read. Just simple horror pleasure with a dab of possession. Perfect recipe for relaxing over my camping weekend (evil laughter here).
This was a really enjoyable read. It had you on edge all the way through. The sickening thoughts and desires of a mother and wife. All brought on by something unimaginable. Lots of little plots that all held together to make a really good story. Loved the characters and fully was a great character. Her courage and bravery shining through for good. Not really extreme though some could be offended at parts. But it is a story and part of the storyline is harsh some would say in places, you do have to remember it isn't real life. So If you can get past them parts you will find it is a good read. I'd definitely recommend.
Sorry but I didn't like this book and I'm surprised I made it to the end. I found it really hard to get past the enormous silly pictures and if you're going to advertise a book as rated 18 you should at least make it scary or gory or something worthy of it. Not much in character building so you didn't care if one of them was on the list to be offed. It tried to fit too many circumstances into a short story and ended quickly. There was really only one grisly death and that was over quickly and it felt like all the adults deserved it anyway. Don't think I'll read any more in the series.
A very hard book to get through or maybe I am having trouble finding the right book. Anyway, the story takes place during the COVID pandemic lockdown when a woman, her husband, and two kids have decided to stay at an old house in the countryside. The woman is really agitating and despite people trying to be nice to her just doesn't want to be around them. I mean yeah I get that her husband had an affair but she can't even stand to be around her kids. I started to wonder if it was her or the house that was making her so nasty. Then we have the ghost story which was really sad and hard to get through. Just wasn't my cup of tea.
I didn't know anything about war evacuees until I read this book. This book is fiction but the evacuees are a fact. I had googled to learn more and it is sad to think that there were some kids that never made it home once the war was over because they were left with horrible people. That is what stuck in my mind even after reading this story. I enjoyed the the story itself. I didn't find it too scary but it's good.
Very disturbing read when a woman is being controlled to kill her family by a ghost Mrs Allen and there is nothing she can do to resist her children are terrified .Really felt for poor Billy what he went through don't want to give anything away . As always Author gets the brain engaged as to how things will pan out !!
This was the darkest and most morbid book I’ve ever read. But it was so gripping and frightening and funny even in some parts. The rating on the front of the book being 18+ is 100% correct because if I was 12 and read this, I’d not sleep for the rest of my life. AMAZING BOOK.
I liked this one. A family moved in and the mother is possessed by an angry spirit in the house who needs to kill in order the please the house. Definitely gives off Conjuring vibes and I love it.

I've read Rick Wood's other books and series and enjoyed them more. This story seemed to drag on and wait to get to the "good stuff", but I still enjoyed it overall.
I'm a fan of Rick, lived the Sensitive books and the Edward King and even a couple of the stand alone books, however I thought this was average. I didn't like the blog stuff and didn't buy into the female lead being a blogger, the pictures certainly wasn't needed.
