I shouldn't have hired her as my assistant, but she was the only one who ever had the balls to stand up to me. The mustard-stained apron never suited her anyway. She looks a lot better in stockings and a pencil skirt.
She's given me a list. “Smile.” “Tell people ‘good job.’” “No growling!” She doesn’t seem to understand that running a Fortune 500 company isn’t the same thing as selling sandwiches.
She’s determined though, and determination is exactly what I’m looking for in my new assistant. So I’ll humor her and follow her little list, just long enough that she thinks she’s got me under control.
But once I get her in bed, I’ll growl all I want.
WENDY
I’m going to tame the big bad Mr. Wolfe, and if I can’t break his iron fist, I’ll at least put a cute little mitten over it so he doesn’t hit his employees so hard.
Melinda Minx lives in Seattle with her loyal Corgi. She writes late into the night with a hot cup of Earl Grey. She likes to write romantic comedies, the cuter the better!
Quick Summary Roan Wolfe is a billionaire, used to getting his way. When he meets Wendy, he leaves a bad first impression and they end up mixing like oil and water. Where’s she’s considerate and empathic, he’s hard and antagonistic.
Wendy sees him as a spoiled jerk, that is until she see’s him interact with his little boy. Suddenly, she sees a different side to him than what he shows the rest of the world. When he offers her a job, Wendy sees it as an opportunity to challenge Roan to be different and to change for the better.
🖤 ~ My Thoughts ~ 🖤 Yikes, I’m a little all over the place with this one. Firstly, I love the opposites attract trope and Wendy and Roan are definitely opposites. About the only things these two have in common is their burning hot attraction to each other and their love for Roan’s kid, otherwise these two were constantly skating the edge between love and hate.
Roan isn’t my type of hero. He had nothing to recommend him besides his soft spot for his kid. The way he thinks and acts, left a bad taste in my mouth and I honestly didn’t see him redeem himself at all.
Which made me feel that Wendy was the clichéd heroine that lets lust take over. She freely admits that Roan is an insufferable jerk, she watches him terrorize his employees/co-workers with his holier than thou attitude, gets used, abused and humiliated by him but that all slips under the wayside because he’s too hot to resist?!? Again, not a heroine I tend to root for.
Was this hot? Yes, these two have exceptional chemistry. I don’t use that word lightly, here. The author definitely knows how to write steamy scenes. But hot smexy times aren't the only things that make a good romance, IMO. The characters should carry the story and Roan was too much of a selfish d-bag to win me over.
Especially frustrating was watching him act out his temper tantrum at the end and purposefully antagonizing his replacement, in front of his son, no less, as some twisted lesson on how to get ahead in life. There was literally no point to that who scene and I’m guessing the author wanted to highlight Roan’s alpha-ness or something but it missed it’s mark. Hard.
There really wasn’t any excuse for Roan’s behavior and when he goes into hyper protective mode to save Wendy (who’s being held at knife point) and is raging on about how Vincent dares to threaten the woman he loves?! What did he expect when he pushes someone on the brink? I figured Roan’s story would show Wendy having a positive effect on him and that his character would grow from the selfish, shallow man he was to a more humanized Hero. Instead we’re supposed to swoon over this bully and fall in love with two characters that just like to bone each other in private and fight each other in public.
Loved the cover and the blurb was a good hook but I don’t do jerk Zeros with little to none in the redemption department.
Heat Level: Smexy times are hot. 5/5 but when you consider the MCs involved the heat lowers to a simmer. Overall 3/5.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was really sweet and kind of funny. Roan truly was a very grumpy guy. Sandwich Girl…err I mean Wendy tamed him but it took a lot of effort. She was a strong heroine. All the scenes with Roan’s son Alex were delightful. This was a fun story with a satisfying HEA.

Roan Wolfe is a single dad, successful businessman, but had a reputation for being very mean and tough. When he meets Wendy Wattley working at the deli, and she is not afraid to stand up to him, he makes her a job offer written on the back of a business card. It isn’t until he brings his 4-year-old son Alex to the deli with him that she sees another side to his behavior and will take his offer seriously. She makes a deal with him as a condition of accepting the assistant position in order to improve his attitude toward the employees. Her goal is to get him to lighten up, smile, compliment employees, and improve workplace morale. Thinking that fear makes a good employee is wrong-thinking. Fear is not the same thing as respect.
Wendy’s “deal” seemed to be working until the day Roan kissed her in front of the staff. She smacks him and quits. Is she gone for good now? Can he find a way to get her back into his life?
The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! By the time you’ve figured out who is who and how deep hate can run, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you. Roan is sexy as all get out owner of a welding company which is well, but he is know a mean, tough and borderline rude boss. One afternoon he goes to the deli for lunch and meets Wendy who won’t allow him to treat her any type of way. He goes in his usual mean self being rude and Wendy won’t stand for it which in itself is impressive considering everyone cowers to him due to his meanness. He offers her a job upon leaving as his assistant hired on but makes a request of Roan to be nice to everyone, she learns that he is an amazing dad and tells him he can be not just a wonderful dad but an amazing boss thus enhancing his work place but is Roan up for the challenge and is there happiness for these two?

In this book we meet Wendy Wattley and Roan Wolfe. When this book opens we find that Roan has come into the deli that Wendy works for her brother at. When he gets there he is a jerk and Wendy won't take it from him. So while her brother tries to calm things down she makes his sandwich really quickly. When he leaves he leaves her his card and a job offer. Wendy doesn't want to work for this man but she knows having his name on her resume will really open doors for her. She decides her principals are worth more though and throws the card away. When he comes back with his son she has a chance of heart and negotiates a deal she can live with to work with him. Roan knows he is a man that everyone wants so when this pushy woman talks back to him he takes notice. The thing is he isn't sure what he wants more her working for him or to spend the night with him. After returning to the office and his most recent assistant he knows now which he wants more. He makes a deal with her that both of them can live with. What happens though when they start developing feelings? Will it be a HEA or will they kill one another first?
Amazing story by this author. The characters will draw you in from the first word and not let go. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Wendy Wattley aka Sandwich Girl is a full time student working on her Masters in Business and works for her brother in his deli. She has a personal dislike for attractive men who use their good looks to get away with being jerks.
Roan Wolfe invented a fusion arc welder and technique that has made him a billionaire. He is a non-traditional CEO and a jerk. His company is building the tallest building in the area using the new technology and he is very hands on. He has a 4 year old son named Alex.
Roan goes into the deli and clashes with Wendy. He actually appreciates her telling him like it is and leaves his card with a job offer. She eventually ends up working as his assistant with the stipulation he can be a jerk to her but must act better towards his employees. They have a blow up at a luncheon and he kisses her in front of the staff. She slaps him and quits. He goes to her home and apologizes and they hook up. They become a couple and she goes back to the deli. He faces several challenges at work and after everything is sorted out they get their HEA.

OMG - love a sandwich girl and grumpy man! This is about Wendy aka Sandwich Girl, Roan aka Grumpy Bossy pants, and Alex aka adorable son! Wendy is working with her brother in his sandwich shop when Roan walks in all bossy and criticizing her from the start to finish, and she is not taking any of it. She refuses to kiss his behind just because he is rich that is her brother's job, not hers. After she puts him in his place, he leaves her a business card with his cell and a job offer, but she throws it away. Roan is the grumpiest man alive; however, a billionaire who made his riches by welding. Although he is the CEO, he still welds his own creations but he has a high standard and rightful so, but Wendy is going to make him see that he doesn't have to just fire and insult his employees to get their respect. Alex is Roan's son and he actually gives this book the life it needs because, without this kid, the sandwich girl would not have the cookie blaster! This is a funny but very lovable story.

DNF 31% I just couldn’t get into this book. From the very beginning. I kept trying to push through but it just wasn’t worth it. I don’t like Roan, right out of the gate I didn’t like him. Yeah he’s good with his kid but he’s pompous and rather oblivious to how the world works. I mean there is such a thing as common courtesy and I don’t know how he can insist his 4 year old kid have manners but he doesn’t. It makes absolutely no sense. If you know manners are important enough to teach your kid then your going to use them yourself. It was a complete contradiction that made absolutely no sense. Then there Wendy who is 27 I think but for some reason she had the thought process of a toddler. She actually calls him “raging penis head” out loud. You couldn’t have come up with a better, more adult phrase? To add to this childishness she makes him be nice. Seriously. He wants to hire her but she insists he follows these rules or she won’t work for him: what grown ass billionaire would agree to this? I mean it’s so childish. The list has things like smile at people, tell them they are doing a good job. It was just totally out there and didn’t make any sense to me at all.
Wendy is working at her brothers deli when CEO rich guy Roan comes in and acts like a jerk and Wendy has no problem telling him what she thinks of his behaviour. After he leaves Wendy finds his business card with a message, work for me, on it, she fleetingly considers it, after all it would look good on her CV but decides, NO THANKS! The next time he comes in he has his son with him and Wendy sees a different side to him, he also tells her he needs an assistant (hence the note). They strike up a two way bargain and the deal is done. Now it's time for the fun to begin!! If you love a boss with an attitude and a girl who doesn't pull her punches setting him straight and for good measure throw in an adorable four year old then this book is for you!!

This story is told from both romantic protagonists, one who is a 27 year old woman working at a deli and a single billionaire father with anger issues (but is NOT violent), so if you don't mine seeing the story from different points of views, this would be a good story for you. I found their personality's entertaining and the story line worth investing in but if you find it unpleasant to read about someone getting cursed out, then this is not the book for you. The only part of the story that bugged me was that the author put a little bit too much focus on the romantic relationship and not enough on the personal growth of the characters so if you only wanted to see the hart string at work then enjoy.

This is a hate to love story about Roan who is a successful businessman owning his own welding company that is known to be a mean and tough boss. One day Roan goes for a sandwich at a oval deli and meets Wendy who is known as “Sandwich Girl” and she stands up to his rudeness and gets a job offer on a business card after he leaves. Wendy ends up making a deal with Roan and it’s going well until the truth scares Roan and things implode. Alex is Roan’s 4 year old son who is one precious young man and has a great imagination. There is drama you will not see and gives this story a twist you are happy to see it be deflated. Roan is a great dad who learns to become a good boss to all of his employees. This is Roan and Wendy’s story. Roan is an amazing singe dad, who is the sexy owner of a welding company, where he has a reputation of being grumpy, rude, and a tough boss. When Roan goes into the deli for lunch, he meets Wendy who is working there with her brother, and when he is us usual surly self, she is not afraid to stand up to him, and he offers her a job as his new assistant. Wendy eventually accepts but she has conditions, and that is that he reforms himself to be more pleasant to everyone. This is a well written story which is sweet, fun, and entertaining, and I was totally enthralled throughout this addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.
I really enjoyed this book, I loved the storyline, wasnt your typical office romance or anything like that. It was different but in a good way. I loved the characters Roan! Now he was a moan you boss, who wanted what he wanted, and he expected it as he was the boss. Roan little boy Alex was a sweet heart. With Alex, Roan was completely different and thats the side of Roan Wendy meet, helping her brother as his little deli. Now Wendy she was say what she feels and put Roan in his place, which is a first and Roan loved it. Alex being 4 years old brought great childish twist to the book. Add a few twists and excitement in this book, and you have a highly recommend read. Loved it

While 4 year old Alex could easily be the star of this story, I enjoyed reading. GRUMPY SINGLE DAD for Wendy and Roan, too. Roan is the grumpy single dad, but he’s a grumpy boss but very charming as a dad.
Wendy tried to get Roan to see the error of his thinking that good workers are those that are afraid of the boss. It doesn’t take long for them to recognize their attraction for each other and how Alex has taken to her.
There are a mixture of light moments and those with more drama resulting in a book I read from start to finish without putting it down.

This is the first story that I have read by Melinda Minx, but it wont be the last. Great story with twist and turns just the way I like them. I always love a kid with a good imagination and Alex has a great one. I loved how Grumpy Dad was grumpy with everyone and everything but never with his son. You will fall in love with all of the characters and the story line was great. I hope she makes stories for a few of the supporting characters there were a least three that I think will make a great stories. P.S. This book will make you laugh out loud a lot, so you may not want to read in a public place.

Ooops I did it again! Fell in love with another Melinda Minx book!
'Grumpy Single Dad' is about Wendy and Roan; they meet at the restaurant where Wendy works. However, Roan is a very bossy and arrogant man, and when he's rude to Wendy, Wendy doesn't hesitate and sticks up to him. Admiring how she spoke her mind, Roan asks her to come to work for him, she agrees with the condition that he lets her teach him how to appropriately treat other people! What can go wrong when teaching a grumpy single dad?
This book is such a cute story! You do not want to miss it!

What a great story!! Roan has worked hard to be the CEO of his namesake company and doesn’t mind one bit that his employees don’t like him. Wendy, on the other hand, is very compassionate but not someone who can be steamrolled over. Roan leans into his alpha-holeness while Wendy tries to show him there are other ways to manage people. 🍪 There is a little drama sprinkled throughout the book. Wendy is strong, fearless, and doesn’t let Roan’s attitude beat her down. This story is written with so much passion I felt like I could hear and feel Wendy’s impassioned words.
Roan is a CEO with a super serious side that scares people. He hires Wendy to be his assistant and she starts to show him that he can still get the job done and be nicer about it to his employees. As they work together they start to soften toward each other, but still show the strength and fight in them. The author has great characters with backstories and personalities that give them depth and feeling. The story is full of suspense and twists from all around them. The son Alex is a high point in the book. The ending was good, but an epilogue promised would be good.

I love a good romance. I mean I really love a good romance. For some reason I can’t understand, a good romance never seems to be good enough for writers of ‘romance’. Nope. It always has to be Scooby Doo Mystery of one kind or another. Or as is the case here, just ‘angst’ the life right out of it. Kidnapping, collapsed roof, hostile takeover, handcuffs....good grief. Is romance too much to hope for in a romance? The chemistry between the 2 MCs was lacking. Probably because the writer was so focused on squeezing in a little more ‘angst’.
Overall great concept and story idea. After reading some of the reviews I decided to give it a try. There was great detail in the work aspect of the book which I loved however it was lacking in other areas. The main male character was a misogynistic jerkhole, the author hinted at him changing but we never found out if he truly changed. Once the couple got together the book went downhill fast. I had to force myself to finish the book hoping that it would turn around.
I picked this book up because of the tile, it just seemed fitting at the moment in life and the cover did not hurt. Alex will steel your heart, Roan's managing skills needs some fine tuning, Wendy is not about to let anything get past her. This is an entertaining story that will have you lost in the story page after page.

Roan is…to say the least…the worst. It’s not even like he really has any character development either. It’s just…awful. The other characters I love and even the storyline itself was good but Roan just made it…unbearable. I will be checking out this authors other work though, because I liked the writing and everything else about this book! Hopefully this was the only book of hers like this!
It started out good but went downhill from there. The attraction between the protagonists was minimal until it just hit from nowhere. There were many errors that should have been corrected before being published. It didn’t have a build up to a romance and other portions were added that didn’t make sense. It’s hard to describe the problems without spoilers but it just wasn’t something I’d reread.
"I don’t need you to fix me, Sandwich Girl, but I think I’m ready to try to fix myself.”
The title is only small part of what the book entails. Roan and Wendy's story isn't your typical happy romance. They face many bumps along the way to their HEA.

These characters just touched my heart and how powerful it was between them. This will tug your heart, hate him and than love him. She is a strong character, stubborn but strong. They are perfect together and the story made you want to keep going. You are going to love it.

Sandwich Girl is my hero! She is smart and nice, she does not take flack from anyone. Quick on her feet, she is exactly what our gruff and grumpy hero needs to be his best self. I have so many Melinda Minx books on my TBR list after reading this.
