Guess who just decided to binge read the entire light novel?
My only reaction on finishing this book is AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
The author won't let Dazai be happy even in an alternate reality....

__________
Me: Every bsd light novel makes my heart ache, especially 'Dazai's Dark Era' and '55 Minutes'. I won't read the next one this month.
Also me: *reads the entire Beast in one day*

Apparently, the author won't let the characters be happy even in this alternate reality.

Plot

The light novel is set in an alternate reality where the author tries to answer the question that what if Odasaku was in the detective agency? What if Dazai never left the Port Mafia? What if instead of Akutagawa, Dazai had picked Atsushi as his subordinate? What if Akutagawa joined the Detective Agency?

So, this is what the plot was.

Characters
What do I even say? All the characters are amazing of course

Spolier Talk

1. Akutagawa in the ADA was just *chef's kiss* and that PTM moment? Aaaaaah
2. Atsushi- the cinammon roll
3. That moment when Akutagawa and Atsushi were talking in the cafe!
4. That Dazai and Chuuya scene 👀
5. WHY DOES CHUUYA APPEARS FOR JUST 1 PAGE!!??
6. Odasaku!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAH! He's finally writing his novel!!!! 😭
7. That moment when Akutagawa thinks to himself that perhaps Odasaku is making an army or smthing XD
8. The reason Dazai wanted to save this alternate reality 😔😔😞😭😭😭😭
9. That scene when Odasaku doesn't remember Dazai and aaah😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
10. That final scene when Dazai says ' because this is the only world he can write his novel in " and" I wish I could have read it"
11. Oh and also Akutagawa and Kenji bonding
12. Akutagawa's outfit Gucci vibes

Art to make us happy

This one is sad though
This scene ripped my heart into atoms- yes not even shreds. atoms. The longer I look at this the sadder I get 😔

I loved this story a little to much so now I want to see an animated ova or movie following it. The concept holds so much potential.

Also Asagiri putting “What if Chuuya had joined the armed detective agency with Dazai?” In the Afterword like??? He’s a great writer and I’d love to see more novels along side the manga.

"What If" and "If Only" are two sides of the same coin - one speaks of possibility and potential while the other of loss and that which will never come to be. This entry into the Bungo Stray Dogs universe captures both of them as it presents a version of the world where Atsushi joins a Port Mafia that Dazai never left while Akutagawa joins an Armed Detective Agency where Odasaku fills Dazai's place.

While I was reading it, I said that Odasaku being alive was the best part, and as it turns out, I wasn't wrong - it's just that I didn't fully understand why it was so. The reason is tied up in this being the one world where Dazai, who has never stopped mourning Odasaku's death in the main story, desperately wants to live, but it's also the one where he cannot. Odasaku and Dazai can't exist forever together, and that gives rise to the contradiction of both "what if" and "if only" being present in the same story. You can change one thing, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you can change everything.

Needless to say, this is one of the strongest books in the franchise, mange or light novel. It helps to flesh out Dazai, Akutagawa, Kenji, and Tanizaki and brings home the elements of the their characters that we don't always get to see but that are important to the story. It's bittersweet in the right way, a way that makes us contrast those two central phrases.

What if. If only.

“This is the only world in which he lives and writes novels. I can't let that world disappear.”

This book is actually pain through and through, and that’s why I had avoided reading it for so long.

But it had Atsushi, and wherever Atsushi is, I follow. Oh, sweet Atsushi. He is not cut out for the mafia life. He deserves love and affection and his found family, and a part of me will never forgive Beast Dazai for taking that away from him where ADA Dazai had given it to him. I truly think he gets the saddest ending.

Seeing Akutagawa thrive and interact with the rest of the Armed Detective Agency was like a balm to an otherwise gruesome and depressing novel. Kenji is a light that can make even prickly Akutagawa shine; I loved their scenes together.

And Odasaku, kind, protective, and wonderful Odasaku. How I longed to see you again even if your scene with Dazai broke me into a million irreparable pieces.

"A life with someone you can say good-bye to is a good life, especially when it hurts so much to say it"

What if the Port Mafia’s Hellhound, Ryuunosuke Akutagawa, had joined the Armed Detective Agency? Likewise, what if Atsushi Nakajima belonged to the Port Mafia?

Premise: Oh my fucking goodness, that's going to be so fucking interesting! *fangirl's insane laughters*

(1) It's a lovely installment to the Bungo Stray Dog series. We are treated with a ‘what if’ situation of members of the PM and ADA switching places.

(2) The writing is neat and the plot is effective, yeah!

Light spoilers.....

This is definitely a book for people that know the series. Whether that’s a pro or a con is up to you. However, for those of us who are well acquainted with these dynamic characters and heartbreaking story this is a winner.

There were so many moments that genuinely made me burst into tears because of what they meant to the characters. For example, there is a moment where Dazai and Oda speak. Asagiri either deserves an award or to be pelted by stones because the absolute heartbreak of that moment was too much for me.

Currentlyi don’t have any favorite lines however Asagiri never fails to eloquently blend action and poetic lines.

I look forward to re-reading this and catching the beauty in his writing. For now I have to fix my makeup from the sobbing this book caused.

"We both harbor a beast. We have regrets. We try desperately to run from the inescapable. But nonetheless, we will fight and resist our inevitable extinction in order to understand who we really are."

* * *

I think I might have gone insane.

No, It's true. I'm not even joking. I think I really had gone insane. Literally, too. Like.. in that exact sense.

First of all, WHAT THE FUCK.

I've read the first volume of the BEAST manga before I read this, I, too, had read a part of the second volume. So I had kinda already knew the spoiler of the story, and nevermind, I kinda is not really a fan of the plot line.

I thought it would be no use for me to read the light novel too, thinking I'd rather read the manga anyway. I mean.. I've already emotionally destroyed by the manga, right? I won't again been destroyed by the light novel too....... right ?

....

DING DONG! I'M WRONG! I'M TOTALLY WRONG. EVEN IF I have already finished the manga, it doesn't matter. Even if I haven't read the manga beforehand, it doesn't matter. Even if I jump straight into this book without knowing the plot, it doesn't matter.

Because no matter what I did before, whatever the fuck did I read, whatever theories did I comply about BEAST universe, I still, stay, keep, remain, been emotionally drained, destroyed, wrecked, crumble, punched by this fucking novel.

First, Akutagawa's cruel past and cruel emotion. All his fight with himself, his realization that he was his own enemy all this time, and THE WAY GIN REFUSED TO COME BACK WITH HIM. THE WAY GIN CALLED HIM EVIL. THE WAY GIN SAID "YOU'RE NOT WORTHY OF HAVING SOMEONE TO LOVE". I THINK I DIED A LITTLE INSIDE. Second, Atsushi past. Atsushi's emotional wreck over his guilt for killing the director is so fucking painful to read. "Those who can't save people aren't allowed to live" IS SO FUCKING PAINFUL TO READ. I don't care about the director good intention on saving him. I don't care about all the reasons behind his abuse for Atsushi. The way he still impacted Atsushi's life even after death, the way he still impacted his way of thinking about his ownself even after death, JUST FUCK YOU. I HOPE YOU HAVE FUN IN HELL.

SECOND OF ALL, WHAT THE FUCK.

THIS Third reason was what especially destroyed me. This third reason was where I actually shed my tears. THIRD, THE FUCKING THIRD, WAS THE ENTIRE MEETING OF ODASAKU AND DAZAI.

Here is the thing: BEAST AU was created solely by Dazai to save Odasaku. "This is the only world where he could write his book", and it's true. Canon!Dazai was implied to command Beast!Dazai to save Odasaku, and it's true. Which means, that this whole thing happened solely because Dazai wanted to create a world stabile enough for Oda to live.

Fine? Still fine.

At this point, i still hate Dazai.

Two: Reading Dark Era did making me feel sad over this. Odasaku and Dazai are truly in love which other (who cares romantically or platonically?) Canonically, they wanted to protect each other even after death .

Three: I have one thing I regret the most. And it is. READING THE DAY I PICKED DAZAI BEFORE I READ THIS.

BECAUSE. FUCK FUCK FUCK.

FOR THIS THREE REASONS THAT MY ENTIRE JOURNEY OF READING ODA'S REUNION AND DAZAI WRECK ME INSIDE AND OUT.

OH MY GOD.

JUST.

OH MY GOD.

IM CRYING A POOL OF TEARS. I CANT EVEN FUCKING BREATHE. I CANT IMAGINE HOW DAZAI FEELS WHEN ODA AIMED THE GUN AT HIM, LABELLING HIM AS "ENEMY". AND AFTER ALL THIS, IT STILL ENDED WITH DAZAI SUICIDE TOO. I THINK I MIGHT HAVE DIED A LITTLE. I THINK IM GETTING A LITTLE INSANE.

SERIOUSLY, Beast AU is basically just Asagiri's biggest crime. A big ass emotional damager. I thought I have wanted to punch him enough for killing Akutagawa. But

Wow. Just wow. This fucking book ruined me.

The only comfort i found is the fact that both Atsushi, Akutagawa, even Kyouka and Gin, was finally able to be free and are finally on a right journey to find themself, their own happiness, without their past hanging around them.

Only, they decided to ruin it too by changing the ending in the Live-Action :)

But that was another talk.

Lets get enough with how the book ruined me.

Let's do a review for real.

Of course, as a fan of Asagiri, I would say that this book is AMAZING. The characters are on point, the plot are on point, the physics theory are on point, and the connection with the canon world is on point. I especially love shin soukoku's fighting scene, I love how deeply Asagiri explore emotion of both Akutagawa and Atsushi, I love how the both of them had justice as equal compared to their canon self.

I love the way he build relationships between Akutagawa and Atsushi with the other characters. I even love it the way he gave us brief view of how it would be for shin soukoku if they meet in a normal world.

Clearly, this book is insanely amazing.

Without doubt, I'd give this book 5/5. You don't have to worry, this book is maybe will damage you, but it's worth it.

Don't hesitate to read this, just pick it up! (Bonus point: you will see Akutagawa being cute so much)

And... I guess that's all for my review. I think I might have gone crazy a little, but that doesn't matter. GO, read the book! Let's together hurt ourself.

Sorry for sounding very overjoyed. But I'm honestly thought this book is amazing.

Thanks for reading!

p.s. still have so many questions regarding how is the universe now that decays of angels had taking over the book. is it crumbling?
p.s.s. asagiri should have wrote a book where akutagawa atsushi dazai oda and chuuya all in the agency instead of mafia to compensate this crime. please make them happy for real.. ㅠㅡㅠ
p.s.s.s. DON'T ever read The Day I Picked Up Dazai before you read this. No. JUST NO. TRUST ME.

maybe 2.5 if i'm being generous //3

the thing with asagiri is that i really enjoy the characters but i really don't enjoy his way of writing. especially in beast, much to my sadness, the characters and their beautiful complicated underlying feelings aren't allowed ANY subtelty.
HOW many times have i read the word 'beast' in this book? it becomes tiring!

Most of the lines that then resonate with me are washed away by the rest of the book. i'm not qualified to say if asagiri is a good writer because i haven't read the original, the japanese version, so i haven't understood the book in its full context, but still - with both the light novels i've read i can say that i would recommend people to just read the manga, unfortunately.

i really really love beast and all of its themes and how it compliments the OG characters, so even MORE then i would recommend reading the beast manga. hoshikawa did a really really good job with the art, which has a very grimy feel to them - very fitting for the universe.

This light novel is just wow, I have no words to describe how much I loved it. Kafka Asagiri is an amazing writer, and his BSD novels are always so good and surprising. But he won’t let Dazai be happy even in an alternate universe, that’s so heartbreaking.

The characters were as amazing as always. I really enjoyed having Akutagawa as the main character, and seeing how his life would have been if he never joined the Port Mafia in the first place. My babe deserves all the happiness in the world. On the other hand, Dazai’s scenes always broke my heart, like I cried so much at some parts; he’s by far the best character in the BSD series.

I can say with certainty that this one, along with “Osamu Dazai and The Dark Era” and “Dazai, Chuuya: Fifteen Years Old”, stands in my top 3.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Kafka Asagiri’s next novel will be about. I just know for sure that it will be awesome, just like the previous ones.

Aaaaaaaand the last book binge for the series ends here (for now). I can't believe how on point this was even though it's an alternate universe.

I love:
-how it adds up to the lore as well, about Akutagawa's backstory this time.
-akutagawa's struggle and weakness (as to why Dazai chose Astushi in the orignial world)
-akutagawa's relationship with Kenji is surprisingly interesting
-akutagawa being in the ADA and how cautious everyone is around him made me laugh
-just realize that "the book" that dazai was talking about is the same book that fyidor and francis was aiming for..... interesting, really interesting...
-dazai one ups everyone again.... and the end ;____;
-odasaku and dazai meet up again.
-dazai's sacrifices ;____;
-knowing that the alternate universe is part of the lore.... will there be a multiverse soon too?

Can't wait for the 7th book age fifteen come out!

"This is the only world where he's alive and writing novels. I can't let that world disappear." I hate gay little Dazai so much because that actually made me shed a tear.

Asagiri really thinks everything is a joke, why can Dazai never be happy in any universe? This actually pissed me off. That moment with Dazai and Oda at the bar.....ohhh do not play with my feelings like that.

Again, not sure why but the POV switched from the 3rd person (which the entire novel was written in) to 1st person following Oda and Akutagawa randomly.

I still did really like this light novel, but I definitely prefer the manga version.

Anyway we got Chuuya and Dazai bickering so I am happy regardless.

Yup, this novel hurt me just as much as the manga did...

I really adore this alternate universe story, especially as it shows different sides to the beloved characters as well as portraying what they would be like if circumstances were different. The Beast manga really made me love Akutagawa, and I'm glad this light novel definitely set it in stone (Chuuya is still my favourite). The writing did throw me off when random chapters changed from third to first person, but it wasn't a massive issue. Overall, such another great addition to the Bungo Stray Dogs universe, and does justice to the Beast manga (not sure which came first, but I'm happy to say that they're both pretty much the same).

I mean this with my entire chest; Kafka Asagiri needs to continue doing more stories like these.

This book is an outliner to pretty much all of the other content created in the Bungo Stray Dogs universe as it focuses on a different world. It is still the Yokohama as we know with the exact same characters, just with slight alignment adjustments.

Our usual protagonist, Atsushi, isn't part of the detective agency in this world. Instead he is known as the "White Reaper" of the Port Mafia, engulfed by the guilt of his past and unable to break free from his own memories. He is rightfully feared in this story as the tiger is more of his burden than his ally, but he is also more unsure of himself than ever before. I don't think our version of Atsushi has ever been this anxious; but this one is almost haunted by his own actions and can't escape his fear.

Akutagawa isn't seen as the 'mad dog' of the Port Mafia, instead he is seen as the 'mad dog' of the Armed Detective Agency. He retains the beast title he has in the main series, but he seems more feral than every before. Instead of being a powerful character, he comes across as a wounded animal that is trying to defend himself.

(Side note: It genuinely baffles me that somehow in the manga and the anime I am near indifferent to Akutagawa but in the light novels I am his biggest fan. Every time Dazai looks in his direction, I want to throw hands with him.)

I love the fact that everyone retained the core of their characteristics, as it shows that no matter the circumstances, these people are engrained this way and no one could influence them. Not only in reference to Atsushi and Akutagaw, but the side characters as well.

For example; Kunikida is unchanged as it doesn't matter who he mentors, as he will stick to his ideals; Tanazaki is still slightly anxious and awkward, but that isn't because of his friendship with Akutagawa, that is just who he is; and Kenji always see's the best in people that Akutagawa was never someone he considered a wild beast.

It doesn't matter if the agency has Atsushi or Akutagawa or even someone like Fitzgerald, as they will always remain true to themselves.

Could it be considered a cop out to leave them unchanged? Maybe? But for me, I think it was a really nice touch.

As usual for Kafka Asagiri books, the plot isn't the main highlight as the characters take the spotlight. Akutagawa joins the Armed Detective Agency to find 'the man in black' who kidnapped his sister. Ranpo, the genius that he is, knows exactly how to find her but won't aid the investigation until Akutagawa has proven himself; through learning about the ideologies of the other detectives.

Unexpectedly, Kenji and Akutagawa's friendship was the best written in this plotline.

It genuinely made me mourn that these characters haven't interacted properly in canon, as Kenji may be the friend that the mad dog needs in order to be healed. The below conversation genuinely made me tear up and I think that was the biggest highlight out of all books. Having the loneliest, most broken character hear that him surviving wasn't an act of evil was just so beautiful. So thank you Kafka Asagiri for having them interact in this way; I think Akutagawa has always needed someone to shine a light on his darkness and let him know that his existence isn't a sin.

(For those who want to know what I'm talking about, here is the chat:
“It doesn’t make sense to me,” admitted Akutagawa as he gazed at the same scenery. “Blessings and misfortune are divided equally in halves? Tell that to my friends who died in the slums.” “You’re the other half, Akutagawa.” Kenji looked at him. “You survived, and you developed an incredible skill. Everyone passed the good half on to you. That’s why…” Kenji paused and smiled as the evening sun glowed in his eyes. “That’s why I just know you’ll get your sister back. A lot of good things are waiting for you now. That’s what nature’s all about.”)

Another highlight in this book was Akutagawa's and Atsushi's dynamic, as they really are on the same coin. Both of them care for their families immensely that they are willing to do things that is unforgivable.

Akutagawa acts monstrous if it means he can be reunited with Gin, Atsushi is willing to succumb to the tiger if it means Kyouka is safe. They both act the worse versions of themselves if it means the people they love can thrive. In addition, they get each other on a level that no one would understand, which I shall come back to.

Gin is one of the only character's in this series who we don't know every well. All we know is that in the manga she is an androgenous assassin who is Akutagawa's sister. Other than that, we don't know tons about her or her characteristics. So having the book based on this almost blank slate of a character was really interesting, as I can neither confirm or deny if she would have reacted the same way she does in this story.

In the main storyline she doesn't present many emotions, and although in this one she is more expressive she still comes across as 'lacking' in the emotion department with her treatment to her brother. She has spent four years without him and he abandoned her for revenge. She doesn't trust him and never went to see him because she believed him incapable of having loved ones in his life (FUCKING BRUTAL MINDSET MAY I ADD).

We didn't get loads of scenes of them together, but we did get a hopeful ending that one day they would reunited in a way that satisfies both. Akutagawa spent the whole book looking for her, but with a revenge mindset and now that she is free, he can spend his time healing instead. And Gin spent here life thinking her brother cared for vengance more than her, so her being able to live outside of the mafia and outside of him, gives her the opportunity to heal as well.

Personally I think we got more of their sibling dynamic in this 150 page book than we have had in five seasons of a show and over 100 chapters of a manga. And maybe because of how they grew up in the main storyline, they don't have the same care for one another, so we see them less as they are essentiallyt strangers who share blood. But I would absolutely love to see more of them together.

Like, I would love to know fi they were they originally close? Did he dote on her or did she worry for him? Is she also a beast or with her is he tamed? This book makes me eager to know more about them, which I think I haven't had before.

Anyway!

The bond between Atsushi and Akutagawa in this book was so great to read as instead of meeting on poor ground, they find conversation easy between them. Other characters are orphans in this series, but no one had a childhood like theirs. Akutagawa was raised on the streets where food was scarce and the people he was surrounded by had been slaughtered like dogs. Atsushi was raised in an orphanage, with a director who would torture him as  a form of control and a idea that 'this was for the best.'

They both suffered so young and had to grow up quickly in order to survive. When they cross paths in the cafe, they have a moment where they are allowed to be the kids that they were deprived of. If only they hadn't grown up the way they had, maybe they could have learned to be each other's safe spaces, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. No matter the world, these two characters are destined to find one another, so I'm hoping one day we can read of them of always being allies instead of being raised on opposite sides of a war.

The mad scramble at the end as they fight in the Port Mafia Headquarters was so vivid to me. However, this was the first fight I read that felt desperate instead of feral. They both fought with everything they had to safe their sisters, and instead of being rational, they both acted with a mad mindset. Atsushi was more obvious with his fear, constantly leaning into the tigers abilities to just get rid of the man that threatened Kyouka. But Akutagawa was doing moves that were borderline suicidal than anything else; the fear uncaring for his life if it meant Gin's freedom.

It was brutal and ruthless.

(The fact that they finally find solace in another person, someone who understood them like no other and were immediately turned into enemies because of the world they were in...one day they will be happy.)

Speaking of brutal and ruthless, this version of Dazai was a lot of fun to read. I'm always intrigued when we can read about his time in the Port Mafia, especially his darkest days where he embodied the role of an executive. In this book he isn't mischievous or cheeky at all, he is just a 'demon.' I know at the end this is almost redactedas we find out he did all of this intentionally for the main manga timeline, but I do like the glimpse that maybe without the Detective Agency and the pain of Oda's death, he could have turned out this cruel.

I almost wish we didn't have the book storyline in this volume, just because I think outside of the main manga this was such an interesting world. I know we always want to redeem Dazai in some way, but I really do think we should let him be unhinged without an ulterior motive for once.

However, I must say, the scene where he is in the bar with Oda was genius. All roads lead to home, and their story will always end up with them together on those seats. Even when Oda is alive and well, he still haunts the narrative. (How devestating that like Atsushi and Akutagawa who are always destined to find each other; these two are destined to lose each other.)

(And completely irrelevant, but the scene with Akutagawa and the children that Oda took in was so heartwarming. I truly believe this was a dynamic we were also robbed of, as Oda saw him as one of his kids, not the mad dog they all believed him to be. Maybe Oda would have been the person to tie the whole storyline together, to unite the Mafia and the Agency and his death meant more consequences instead of rewards.)

To sum this up; Kafka Asagiri, DROP ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE WORLD STORYLINE AND MY LIFE IS YOURS.

I'll try to write this review without any spoilers hahahhaha I've spoilt a lot in my updates so yes, hopefully this will be a spoiler-free review.

So, first of all I'd like to say, this book... this book is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. No, it's more that just beautiful, it's MAGNIFICENT. If you have read the synopsis, you'll know that this book is sets in a parallel world where the good main character becomes the bad guy and vice versa. Honestly at first, I was a little afraid to read it because usually when I read about the parallel world of a novel (yes, in fanfiction etc), I don't see the connection with the original story. For example. the characters become completely different or there's no explanation on how the parallel world exists. But in this novel, in this story... BOOM Asagiri sensei perfectly connects the relation between the original world of Bungo Stray Dogs and its parallel world. I might sound exaggerating but, you'll know that it's true if you read this book. I wish I can say how the relationship between these two worlds is explained but uh-oh it will be a spoiler then hahahaha

Next, what I really like in this story is that the characters stay true to their own self. I mean... their characters are the same with the original story. For example, Atsushi doesn't suddenly overcome his fear towards the orphanage's director. He's still the same Atsushi, the one who is haunted by the past or the incident that happened at the orphanage. And then, Akutagawa. He's still that hot-headed teenage boy, who often do something without plans and rely only on himself. (no hate, okay! I love all characters so much!) and there's Dazai. YES, he's still that goofy (even though not that much), he's still that man who plans as if he can see the future. You won't feel weird out or uneasy with the story, instead you'll get to know more on what happened with Atsushi and Akutagawa when they were younger (before they joined any agency).

Moving on, I really like the interaction between the characters. When will we ever see Kenji and Akutagawa being best friends? Of course in the parallel world! Both of them are so cute! And then interaction between Akutagawa and his sister, Gin. I'M LIVING FOR IT! (yeah, we need more of their interaction in the original manga hahahha) And we have Atsushi and Kyouka... LOVELY!!! *fangirling at the back ~ and we have Odasaku making a comeback! (But I warn you, it's going to be really sad when it comes to Dazai and Odasaku)

Honestly, I love all bsd light novels because the words are... poetic? hurmm I think that's the right word. All of them are beautifully written, including this one.
"He wasn't afraid of death, for he believed that hell would be far more pleasant than this place. Nor did he fear the pain of dying, as day after endless day was nothing but torture." *CRIES

AND THE ENDING OH MY STOP MY HEART BREAKS HUHUHUHHU I didn't see that coming. I cried so hard when reading 55 Minutes (the fourth light novel) and this one made me CRY A LOT TOO. Asagiri sensei really be hurting us like that hahhahaha but it's fine, I know eventually something like that will happen, even in the real story (be strong, my heart).

Lastly (yes, I'm sorry for writing this whole essay for a review), thank you to Asagiri sensei for writing this amazing story, Harukawa sensei for always giving us beautiful and detailed illustration and the editors who help along the process to make this book a complete version. Also to all bungo stray dogs fans out there who loved the manga, PICK UP THIS BOOK AND READ IT! You'll not regret doing so!

This is the only world where he’s alive and writing novels. I can’t let that world disappear”.
[ESP]

Sin duda voy a terminar leyendo The Day I picked up Dazai cuando salga en inglés.

Bungou Stray Dogs is an animanga with a special place in my heart, as it accompanied me since its first episode in 2016, one of the most difficult years of my life where not even reading comforted me. Curiously enough, the story is related to universal literature and aims (or so it seems) to find The Book, a mighty artefact that allows the user to change the real world and branch out alternate universes depending on what is written on its pages.

Beast is one of those alternate universes where there are small decisions that dramatically alter the canonical story, for the sake of my favourite character Oda Sakunosuke, an ordinary man without many ambitions who has an unquantifiable value to Osamu Dazai, the one who wrote this new universe.

This book makes me emotional because .

4/5, because I found the contrast of the main characters incredible (although my interest was not in them) and made me appreciate them even more. I'm going to end up reading The Day I picked up Dazai when it comes out in English.
