It was really hard to get into this one… I kept pushing it off. The premise and blurb sounded really interesting, it just so hard to get into 3rd person. When I did start I found the beginning really hard to follow along based on how it was written. I think the 3rd person really did the story a disservice. It was hard to get a good feel of their emotions and thoughts and didn’t feel a good connection with the characters.
Once I got more into the book I enjoyed it more! I really loved Billy, his interest in Sam, his drive to get the truth out and expose what needed to be out. The fmc was harder to relate too, nothing wrong with focusing on your career but definitely towards the end I found she focused too much on her career that she didn’t think or care enough about the truth coming out and the good that Billy was doing in launching his story and who he was protecting. Yes I understand he could have at least said something, but she even admitted if she knew she would have prepared stuff and told her boss. That could have derailed everything. She was too focused on protecting herself and her company without thinking about if they deserved to be protected. Even just hearing what was aired by Billy and the way her job treated her I wouldn’t want to work there regardless. Get your priorities straight girlie
Overall, it was an intriguing storyline, a bit predictable, but the romantic element lacked in my opinion. I do love the Canadian connections and hearing about Ontario in a book!
Kristy Mallory’s debut is a riveting read that I could not put down. Sam is the communications fixer at a high-profile casino, and Billy is the wily reporter that crashes her press conference with accusations pointing to money laundering under the watch of the current management and government PTB. While Sam expertly spins damage control, her boss urges her to cozy up to Billy to find out what he knows and control the story. A case of keep your friends close and your enemies closer!
The lusty sizzle of attraction between Sam and Billy jumps off the page as the politically-charged story unravels and their opposing professional loyalties threaten to keep them apart. Mallory deftly crafts a steamy drama filled with shady characters, honourable whistleblowers, and enigmatic figures that will keep you on edge until all is revealed in the final chapter. Bravo!
I’ll preface this by saying third person is always very hard for me to read because I don’t connect thoroughly with the characters.
I truly believe this book would have made for an incredible thriller book. The case is very interesting but the book is overly detailed. I found the MMC very sweet and a regular guy people wanna date. The FMC I found unbending and fearful. She is very career focused which I love but she claims to love the same in the MMC but when he has to urgently do something for his work she immediately folds against him.
Overall the chemistry was there between them yummy!
A wonderful debut novel! I was intrigued by the setting of Dirty Money as casinos are not something I am very familiar with. The descriptions made it easy to picture the action that was taking place. I found myself engaged by the characters right from the start. Their relationship is full of passion and respect for each other. The book has a perfect pace that holds the reader's interest from start to finish. This is a very enjoyable start to what I hope will be a successful writing career for Kristy Mallory. I will be eagerly anticipating the second book in the Harbourview Casino series.
This is the first in a new series and this is Sam and Billy’s story. Sam is the communications officer fir a high profile casino, while Billy is an investigative reporter who is on a mission to expose that casino’s launder dirty money, and when he gate-crashes her news conference, the sparks fly. This is a well written story which has undeniable chemistry, drama, angst, emotions, twists, and love, which leads to a steamy and entertaining page turner. - this book was just nothing, nothing particularly good and nothing particularly bad - so much of the book was just telling you what happened, not going along as it happened - a lot of short lived storylines with no point, like why did the gossip column have to post a picture of them kissing - bit of a slow burn waiting for Billy and Sam to get together - all the info on money laundering was both too in depth and not enough, it could have been explained better - ending was resolved too quickly, I wanted more on what Billy was going to do with all the info Sam gave him on the casino

Billy and Sam connect when he burst in on a press conference. Their connection draws Sam into Billy's life but will she give up the information her employers want to ruin Billy when she has fallen for him. This captivating story drew me in right from the first page. As it unfolds, I began to connect with Sam and her dilemma.

Dirty Money by Kristy Mallory is a good, and enjoyable steamy romantic suspense read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. This is Billy and Sam's story. They have sizzling attraction.

Not a bad story but adding the grafic sex scenes felt gratuitous and unnecessary. Made it into a different category of book. Only read because of a remote personal connection to the author. Like that it was Canadian.
