Hush, little baby, don’t say a word. Killer’s gonna find you in Alcatraz.
Kate’s going to prison—Alcatraz, that is!
When her brother, Andrew, comes to San Francisco on a business trip, Kate takes some time off sleuthing to hang out with her family and tour the city’s best sites. She thinks the hardest part will be playing nice with her Instagram influencer sister-in-law. But then Andrew’s work rival winds up dead—and Kate, nearly seven months pregnant with twins, is trapped on Alcatraz with the killer.
The clock is ticking, and Kate’s to-do list is clear. 1.Escape Alcatraz. 2.Clear Andrew of murder. 3.Catch the real killer. 4.Find a restroom before the twins start playing kickball with her bladder.
Will Kate solve the case before it’s too late? And can the family rally together to save Andrew once Kate’s estranged father reappears on the scene?

Kate Connoly’s private investigator skills appear to be getting better in Lethal Lullaby. I am impressed that she continues to work toward becoming a licensed investigator. Her work with her mentor, Albert Galigani, as well as her run-ins with his former police colleague, Detective Patrick McNearny, does seem to be gradually paying off from one adventure to the next. Not that she doesn’t still manage to get herself into some odd situations.
In this episode, appears at first that her most pressing problems are going to be family issues – especially the antagonism between Kate and her brother’s wife, Tracy. But when, in an effort to promote family harmony, she agrees to set up a wine-tasting tour for her brother and his wife, things slowly begin to spin out of control until suddenly she has another murder case on her hands. It seems that they accidentally meet up with some of her brother Andrew’s co-workers at one of their stops, and various people invite other co-workers to meet them at later stops (why aren’t the wineries involved upset about this?) until arguments over an impending promotion begin to break out.
Then later, at a visit to Alcatraz (a night tour) that a colleague their company is discussing a merger with has arranged, the CEO of Andrew’s company is stabbed. Kate has gone with Andrew instead of Tracy so she can listen for clues about the first murder, and she is the first one to discover the second homicide.
When Andrew is later arrested for the murder, Kate goes into full investigative mode, in a bizarre case involving a set of identical twins (among other things).
"I’d asked myself many times how the same two parents had landed on both the names Emily and Edwina. It was an unsolvable mystery" What??? Probably the same way the MC landed on Laurie for her daughter? They liked the names? This is such an odd thought for someone to have and as usual, an unnecessary thing to add for word count 🙄 I put up with the annoying to do lists but other unnecessary comments or details will forever keep me from giving 5 stars no matter how much I enjoy the books
