Tess Morrigan, my fated mate, is my mortal enemy.
She's been working for the monster I hate the most: Lucifer, my father.
She won't stop until she has my head on a golden platter.
Each time we meet, her eyes spark with passion and dreams, and her lips taste like honey.
They say keep your enemies close.
So I do, and I trap her in my embrace.
Touching her. Desiring her.
Until the day I strike first.

There were certain characters I liked, like the hellcat; and certain scenes as well. However...

I'm starting to realize the new adult genre isn't always for me. This book had mature sexual situations that made it adult but a whole slew of immature decision making that made it young adult. Immature + mature = new adult I guess. While reading I completely disconnected from the plot because I couldn't move past or tolerate the heroine's immaturity or the major miscommunication trope. Those two things practically made up the plot for book 2.

I thought this was going to end up being my new favorite series by Ms. Xuemei X and if it continues in the way it's going there will be no doubt. Loki may call Tess Bunny, but this bunny has some very sharp teeth. She is the perfect match for Loki's wolf. This story starts right where the first one ends and we are immediately thrust back into the Bride Trials. The heat kicks up a notch, the relationship between Loki and Tess also progresses and their bond becomes more than just lust, and the danger is still high. I couldn't put it down, even though I desperately wanted to take my time because the next book is still months away, but I have a hard time regretting it. It was too good to walk away from. Beautiful storytelling, fun and loveable characters, action and adventure, heat and passion, and the push-pull of the enemies to lovers relationship are part of the reasons I love everything Meg writes. The bonus of the super strong and independent female lead is why this one will be one I read over and over again.

Omg

This just keeps getting better. But man I so want to strangle loki. He is such a jerk sometimes to Tessa, and if they just would talk things might have been fine. And now there is more drama for them to deal with. Now I'm off to get the next book

We get more Loki and Tessa in this book and we get more of his wolf as well. Unfortunately, the Bride Trials had become increasing difficult for Tessa and Loki isn't taking well, as he has to sit on the sidelines and not help her. Even more unfortunate, Loki has learned of Tessa's initial intentions with him as well as some of the contract details, she signed with his father, Lucifer. No surprise, he loses his mind finding out his mate betrayed them (him and his newly awakened wolf), but the wolf sides with his mate and wants to protect Tessa even from Loki. We get more of the powerful wolf and it was enjoyable to watch his interactions with Tessa, but flipping hilarious watching him fight with Loki. The wolf saved himself for his mate, truly Snow White and the Wolf are my favorite characters so far.

Loki decides to punish Tessa while she too is also heartbroken by flaunting his women in front of her. However, his plan quickly goes south when an Angel of Death, Azrael, makes a play for his mate and suddenly Loki can no longer sit and watch.

Also, the mating bond has started unfortunately for our couple they are interrupted by a coup. I wondered what lies ahead for our crazy couple.

So HOT!

I have no words to describe how good Rejected Queen was. And I can safely say that this is my favourite series Meg has written to date.

Rejected Queen picks up the morning after the end of Playboy Prince, during the second trial. It’s hard to give much detail without giving anything away, but just know there is a lot of violence, heartbreak, possessiveness, lust, and passion.

It's hard to explain, but there is something about the characters that makes you just want more. And even with all the darkness, this book seems light somehow.

An amazing book that’s definitely a must-read.

FYI: I'm OBSESSED with all things Loki!

This continues on from a cliffhanger in book 1.

I was a little unsure of this series after finishing book 1, I liked it but I guess it wasn't exactly what I thought it would be. The story idea is great but book 1 just left me wanting more. The reason I'm rehashing this is that if you felt the same don't worry because book 2 was terrific. The characters picked up and the banter, battles and heat grew too. I was really hooked on this one and jumped straight into book 3 without stopping to get my thoughts down because I couldn't wait. So if you read book 1 and felt unsure don't give up yet because the next two books are so good.

After the events from the masquerade ball, Tessa doesn't get any downtime because bride trial 3 is up. It's a huge battle in the city and she has whole factions out to get her, but now there is more at play, are Loki and his inner circle are out to get her too or has the game just found a big target.

When Tessa almost dies Loki's wolf loses it and goes into the arena to save her luckily it comes just as the horn ending that game sounds so no major rules are broken. He won't let his bunny out of his sight now at least not until he has to. It's time to show her how he can be for his mate before he can claim her forever.

When a secret is spilled Loki loses it and destroys half his castle while his inner circle aid in getting Tessa out. They don't know what has happened but Loki threatens to end her and they know in the long run he would regret that.

Tessa retreats to her dome, anger and sadness consume her, she thought she finally had someone to trust in but he shattered that. After being forced out of hiding she meets with the wolves who are willing to ally themselves with her.

A night out turns into a brawl after mercenaries come for her but the angel of death is her biggest foe. When he tries to make a deal with Tessa, Loki can't stand it anymore. His wolf is determined to fix what Loki did and give their mate the benefit of the doubt. The two reunite and passion and lust burn out the anger from her secret. But they won't get a chance to get too far. Trouble has come for Loki's throne.

This ends on a cliffhanger.

Happy Reading

Not going to finish this series. I finished the book so that my 5$ wasn't wasted, but ... unfortunately I skimmed and skipped so many paragraphs. The sex scenes felt like it was written by a 12 year old boy going through puberty. There was wayy too much nonsense in it. It was immature. A lot of the back and forth between the characters are super staged and not something that would actually be said or happen. No connection with the characters. The world building was severely lacking - non existent. Descriptions are minimal. This plot would've been really good had it been thought out and planned instead of pushing out the books super fast.
out of all the scenes that bugged me, the one that bugged me a lot was when they split and she went to the lunch - no one but his advisors knew they were together - it was supposed to be this huge secret yet when she attended the lunch EVERYONE knew? did he come out and tell everyone? like ... I dont get how they knew? Also when they made up they immediately just start fucking? All is forgiven? Everyone who has had makeup sex knows, that shit doesn't go down like that. AT ALL.

A lot of nonsense this one.

There was great action in the beginning of the book, lots of tension with the combatants. Then the erotica dialog was so juvenile at the end. Cringy and not sexy at all.

This book was much like the first. Terribly written but a captivating plot, thanks only to the ground work laid out by the first book. I will say that nothing much really happened in this one. It was a really short read and slightly disappointing. As we know Loki finds out about the blood contract Tessa has on him but I HATED how it was revealed. It was revealed in such an anticlimactic way; off screen and rushed through. We didn't get that moment of Loki finding out and the whirlwind of emotions that he would've experienced in that moment. Instead we get Tessa running confused for her life and Loki telling us what happened in passing. It's almost as if the author was too tired/lazy to write the scene when he finds out and had him tell us, the readers, what happened in a half ass monologue. It also felt a bit unrealistic how their emotions, specifically Loki's, was handled. I felt like his thought process changed so quickly. And I get that his wolf is there to calm him down when it comes to her but I feel as though he should've been upset for a bit longer before he caved, especially in the way that he did, so sudden. One minute he hated her and the next he was trying to see things from her point of view and acknowledging that she never actually tried to kill him as they got closer. I do like however how they handled it when they saw each other for the first time after everything happened. It kind of reminded you of the intense mate bond that is still there between them; grounding you back in the world of fantasy. I see the author setting up other story-lines and I'm intrigued. All in all I rate this book a star lower than the first because the first was truly captivating. This book was more like a filler which is sad because one of the MAJOR things in the series came out in this book and I felt like it was such a waste. I felt like vital information such as that should've came out in a more interesting book. The pacing of the first book was much better too, maybe because it was a fresh and new story-line. With this one nothing was really new, it was all expected, so it felt a lot like filler. And then the biggest and most important thing in the series at this point is revealed in such an anticlimactic way...disappointing. But not disappointing enough to make me stop reading. I'm starting the third book as soon as I finish this review.

Had Potential But Didn't Deliver

Warning: This review may contain spoilers.

I accidently read the Rejected Queen first, thinking it was the first novel so felt lost at times with a lack of being able to fully understand the world the characters are living in. Going back to read the actual first novel, I realise it was more to do with the world building rather than skipping a novel. The world building is ambitous and I like that, but it fails to deliver. It feels like a mix of countless different mythologies and religions all jumbled together without any clear defining link as to how they all exist and function within the world and how the relationship between them and the occasional "humans" that the mention. Perhaps you need to read her other series to get that information, but then again a series should be able to stand alone and explain that.

There were chunks of the story that were boring. Given the story is listed under "Paranormal Romance", I am not sure you could classify the moments between Tessa and Loki as romance, wasn't romance badly written sex scenes (of which I skipped).

Enemies to lovers fantasy series

This starts right where book 1 left off with Tessa entering the Second Underworld Bride Trials.
Victoria Mei slays as the feisty, strong Tessa again in this continuing fantasy series. There’s so much happening again but most of all it seems everyone is out to get Tessa.

This series is full of secrets and partnerships, violence and lust in the trials. Loki is enamoured with Tessa, until he finds out a secret she was about to share with him, yet hadn’t a chance. It changes how one side of the Playboy King looks at his mate but his other side will fight and defend him for his fated mate. Seems there’s more that both main characters have to find about themselves and each other.

We get more info on both and see there’s more happening here than it appears. Does it all have to do with Lucifer and his perchance to destroy his estranged son, the current Lord of The Underworld? We have to see in the next book. If I can wait!

Travis is just okay as Loki for me. I honestly think that I would enjoy it more with Victoria doing all of the characters but it’s okay. Loki needs a deeper voice in my mind. Travis comes across as being a bit meek to my ears.

This is another amazing series by Meg Xuemei X in a fantasy world where the main characters battle others as well as themselves in this enemies to lovers storyline. Can’t wait for the next book!

Why 2 stars?

Because this is dragged the H## out.upon finally reading this after sitting in kindle forever I got to next book that's out only to see the fourth coming out in August2022 😒 ..yea no I'll be forgot all the others and be a waste of my time. Leave out the excessive inner thoughts and get on with it. Some might say its twist and turns that keep it interesting but ....
Spoilers
We had a trial ..one in this entire book . he still doesn't know who he is and she kinda taps into what she is ,one trial,a heated scene ,he finds out about great old dad and her contract he destroys she flees some parting with women then bar with his new women ,and let me just say the virgin that stays virginal and the guy manwh## is getting pretty old ,I mean come on its so not flattering . it kinda a pet peeve .🤷 ok where was i.before I went down that rabbit hole of hypocrisy? Ah yes . we gang up again on her and introduce a new powerful man, maybe for his own long dragged out series? god wolf.and all finally can't stand it then run after her.sex it up to bond and a revolt . yea that's dragged out is unacceptable .
Book 3 no go cause 2022 in August for 4 ? ...no I don't enjoy re- reading to remember a series unless it is fabulous.. This was not for me . sorry .

Could be so much better

These books would be so much better if the writing style was different. I just really don't like how in the same sentence/paragraph it'll say Loki this, the demon king that, the underworld king this etc. Why not just say his name? Hell even one of the other two words she likes to use consistently but to use two or three of the names for him almost every single time Tessa is referring to him or talking with him its quite annoying. Why does it need to be all three and not just once but multiple times through the whole book its honestly soooooo annoying. Lile honestly i think we get the damn hint he's the king of the underworld, he's a demon, his name is loki. We GET IT. also marigold really? Shes suppose to be one of the strongest most badass titan hybrids on earth yet meg Xuemei X makes her out to be annoying immature and prissy... some of the story contradicts itself which is a little irritating and the king of the underworld is suppose to be bad ass, ruthless, and dominate yet she doesn't really portray him like that... soooooo idk its got me all kinds of effed off. I liked a few of her series but the writing style gets me every time. 😪😔

This book feels like a filler for the relationship miscommunication thing. But for me, it missed the mark with how much angst there could have been. How the simple miscommunication could have been pulled out more so Loki really is alphaholes instead of a hurt love sick guy.

There was more action outside the bride trials, and that whole thing is really in the background now, slipping from the plot.

We have a bit too much going on outside the bride trials that doesn't seem to link back to Ragnarok, Lucifer, or the MCs directly. It all kind of dampens the who thing.... suddenly, there is a new character who seems like a big deal but seems to be there just to flip a switch...

The spice is still hot, well it's level 2/5 hot smut, could be better, could be hotter.
The author chose to overuse the POV in this book, so we don't just flip back and forth. We recap a lot, and I mean a lot of what happens in the others' POV. That, for me, has a negative impact. Too many recaps and without huge gains from them...it became tedious.

Well…

It was okay until the author made Tessa a clueless idiot.

She went the majority of the book blaming Loki for stuff he didn’t do and basically saying he was ignorant to them being mates but somehow believed that only his beast knew… like that made sense. She kept accusing him of doing stuff to hurt her or whatever when it was obvious that it couldn’t possibly be him doing it. She had a lot of irrational and illogical thoughts that were hard to take so I had to skip a bit to get through her inner monologue to get back to the actual story.

What really took the cake is when she got mad at him for being upset with her when he found out her “secret”. She held a grudge against him and said he was just like the Ice God and all that jazz! The “secret” should have made her feel guilty but no, she forced it all on him. Ridiculous.

I imagine everyone has read a story or watched a movie where a couple fall in love, there’s a misunderstanding which lasts until practically the very end and then they kiss and make up for HEA. I was pleasantly surprised when it seemed like Tessa realized that Loki hadn’t grown tired of her as she had thought when his wolf rescued her after a vicious attack during the second trial. Alas, that bliss didn’t last long when he discovered she was sent to assassinate him by Lucifer. Loki’s wolf was having none of this alienation and constantly beleaguered his demon side to go after his mate. Azrael, the angel of death, makes an appearance and forces Tessa’s Morrigan magic to manifest. Azrael’s interest in Tessa overcomes Loki’s faked indifference and the couple reunite until a new disaster comes along, leading to book 3.

Bad English and written form.

Okay, 2 stars for effort. Either the writer just has terrible writing skills or English is not her first language. I had to constantly come up with rewritten sentences and replace words to make sense. Past, future and current tense were also jumbled. Characters are very very weird. This is the 2nd book and it comes across that the apocalypse has happened, hell reigns on earth and humans just love evil and hell. It’s also fitting that the king of demons is rich and has a penthouse in Manhattan along with other human billionaires. Guess you know all the rich are evil. And everyone wants to be evil. Hmmm, this is just too weird. There were some references to heaven causing all the havoc on earth and that the demons brokered some sort of peace. What? Makes no sense.

The language in this one is a bit much sometimes, took one star off for the unnecessary swearing (it is more in your face than other series).

Nothing like a date being interrupted by a collapsing skyscraper, is there?

The second trial was brutal, not looking forward to the remaining ones (who sent the missiles?).

I wonder who the angel of death is working for? He doesn't strike me as a neutral party, too many unanswered questions with his role. Spent a good amount of time facepalming when Loki tried to make Tessa jealous, good on her for ignoring it (mind games never work).

Loved seeing more of Mari in this one, she is a strong and determined woman and the relationship between her and brother Loki is hilarious.

Nice take on "when hell freezes over" ! Off to Hellfire Crown now for the third stage of the story :)

Oh boy, "Rejected Queen" throws you straight into the action from chapter one, and it doesn't let up! We're talking high-octane drama right out of the gate. Loving the new twists with potential allies and foes popping up – it's like a chess game where everyone's a potential backstabber.

Now, about those steamy scenes – sure, there's heat, but the chit-chat? A bit much. It's like, can we get back to the sizzling chemistry, please? The banter's fun, but sometimes you just want the fireworks without the commentary.

Dual POV is usually my jam, but in this one, it felt like I was on a déjà vu rollercoaster – revisiting the same scenes just in a different head. A bit of a buzzkill when you're itching for new action.

We return to hell and Tessas battle in the bride trials. When Loki rejects her it’s worse than before. Everyone wants her dead. She’s just a little tougher to kill than one would imagine, and she’s not immortal yet.

With the help of Snow White, some wolves, and crazy angel of death she will survive or die trying to win.

Loki can’t believe he’s been betrayed. He wants nothing to do with her but his other half has something to say about that. It’s a battle between two halves of himself. Will he survive that battle? Or will he be torn apart and lose Tessa forever.

Another great installment to the series.

Oh, this one was kind of on the edge because it was miscommunication which I hate, and she’s being targeted which is expected. But how could he be so mad at her and tear an entire castle? He’s just so crazy. Then again, he is the god of the in the world, so I suppose that is to be expected.
She is so strong she is so talented. She is so powerful and she is smart. She’s not a dummy which a lot of these lead female characters and fantasy novels are. They’re constantly clumsy and falling and tripping and needing saving but she doesn’t need saving. She conquers everyone she is even stronger than him ! I love these books so so so so so much

The tension between the two characters keeps me reading for more. Loki tries to keep his feelings for Tessa hidden from the other bride trial contestants. The vampire princess has her sights set on being Loki's future queen. She claims she is his fated mate. Tessa has obstacles thrown at her. The wild hunt as set its sights against her inside the trials. Loki tries to swoon Tessa.
Tessa is a complex character. Struggling to stay alive. Fight her feelings for her fated mate. Get the power needed to save her kingdom from the usurper.
When the mating finally happens between these two it is fire!

it’s getting good!

I’m enjoying this series immensely! I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the twists and turns! There’s never a dull moment and every page, every paragraph is more addicting than the last. The chemistry between Loki and “Bunny” is delicious and the more they fight each other, the stronger the pull between them becomes. I have to say that Snowflake may be my favorite character - she’s hilarious! This is the second series I’ve devoured from this author and I love the way she writes sassy, strong, yet vulnerable characters that are easy to relate to and fall in love with. On to the next book!

Even though I knew from the beginning that Tess was there to kill Loki, I still felt that betrayal when he found out. I was so peeved with her when she threw a hissy fit the moment Loki gave her the cold shoulder. I mean she was sent to kill the man, what did she expect? Now Loki’s wolf is a whole other being I want to get to know. 😈 And the Angel of Death....eeep! Be still my heart. There is just too much hotness to contain in one book.
I loved how much of Tess's power we got to see. And it was just a tiny bit. She hasn't even unlocked her full potential. Ahh I love it.

WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL!!! Leave it to Meg to end the book amidst such a "CLIMAX"

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🌡️🌡️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I guess someone switched on the heater at its maximum because I am sweating 🥵🥵 and dripping and panting.

From tooooo hot sex scenes to bloody adrenaline coursing violence and action and battles to violent romance between two alphas this book left me in a puddle. This book was so good and no amount of adjectives could ever express or describe the enormity of awesomeness this book delivered. An amazing, beautiful masterpiece is what this book is.

Meg is one of my favorite authors.
The story and the spice are so good. I’m absolutely in love with Loki. I honestly didn’t need anymore book boyfriends, but here I go again. This books twists and turns have taken me on a beautiful ride. Tessa is a strong ice queen that takes no crap from anyone. The banter is amazing. What else can I say to get you to read this amazing series? After you’re done reading this try Shifter God as well. I promise it’s delicious!.

Bachelor Meets the Hunger Games

This series truly is like the Bachelor meets the Hunger Games! At first, I was frustrated as it felt like there could more to the story as the author explains a part of the story instead of doing a flashback, but I really like that as I feel the books would get very long. There is steam, conflict, suspense, witty banter, it is hard for me to put the series down! Hoping the Angel of Death makes an appearance later in the series to cause a potential love triangle?
