Delivering Data Analytics: A Step-By-Step Guide to Driving Adoption of Business Intelligence from Planning to Launch

Rate this book
The importance of data analytics is well known, but how can you get end users to engage with analytics and business intelligence (BI) when adoption of new technology can be frustratingly slow or may not happen at all?

Avoid wasting time on dashboards and reports that no one uses with this practical guide to increasing analytics adoption by focusing on people and process, not technology. Pulling together agile, UX and change management principles, Delivering Data Analytics outlines a step-by-step, technology agnostic process designed to shift the organizational data culture and gain buy-in from users and stakeholders at every stage of the project.

This book outlines how to succeed and build trust with stakeholders amid the politics, ambiguity and lack of engagement in business. With case studies, templates, checklists and scripts based on the author's considerable experience in analytics and data visualisation, this book covers the full cycle from requirements gathering and data assessment to training and launch. Ensure lasting adoption, trust and, most importantly, actionable business value with this roadmap to creating user-centric analytics projects.

As a Business intelligence practitioner of many years, it’s not the technical challenges that stumped me often. In the tripod of technology, process, and people, it’s always the latter two which are the most challenging to get right. Building analytics is only the tip of the iceberg. How to do that in a way that drives their adoption and makes them successful takes much more deliberate thought and planning. Nick focused on exactly these aspects in this book (and his earlier courses on the same topics), which have been invaluable to me personally through the years. I find myself getting back to this material to refresh my knowledge, gain new insights, and just the answer to my current snarky problem. Defining user personas, varied approaches to asking questions and gathering requirements, the dashboard evolution and life cycle are just a few nuggets of the vast wealth of knowledge embedded in this book. To take your knowledge and expertise with building analytics and level it up to become truly differentiated in your approach to successfully deliver them, “Delivering Data Analytics” should be your go to. Do not miss it!

This book was really in my wheelhouse. I enjoyed it and will be adding Delivering Data Analytics to my professional library for professional development on my team. The writing was very accessible and engaging. The piece on UX was particularly helpful for me because we've been doing more collaboration with our web design teams. This is a fairly quick read that will give the reader an good baseline into how to design data projects in order for stakeholders to get the most out of them. Really enjoyed it.
