A 10-Week Study on Philippians, Excellent for Women’s Groups The apostle Paul suffered intensely for his faith, but despite the danger and pain of his story, his letters are filled with hope―hope rooted in the good news of the gospel. Join Lydia Brownback as she explores Philippians and shows readers that even in the face of persecution and other difficulties, there is abundant peace through unity in Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. This study helps women focus on God as the source of their joy when life threatens to sidetrack them. The Flourish Bible study series is designed to equip women―from baby believers to seasoned saints―to study God’s word. Bible study teacher Lydia Brownback guides women chapter by chapter through multiple books of the Bible, helping them come away with a deeper understanding of God’s word, its context in redemptive history, and how it uniquely reveals God and his gospel.
Lydia Brownback (MAR, Westminster Theological Seminary) serves as a senior editor at Crossway in Wheaton, Illinois, and an author and speaker at women’s conferences around the world. Lydia previously served as writer in residence for Alistair Begg and as producer of the Bible Study Hour radio program with James Montgomery Boice.
In this book, Lydia prompts the reader to go deeper into the text. The questions are perfect for instigating fruitful conversation and growing together. This book came highly recommended to me by a friend that I trust and I am thankful she recommended it. I can certainly recommend it to anyone who is new to learning how to exegete scripture. Lydia teaches you the questions to ask to get the most out of your reading.
“Philippians: Living for Christ” is another inspiring and edifying study in the Flourish Bible Study series. This is a ten-week study on the book of Philippians, focusing mainly on Paul and Timothy (Paul’s intern) and central themes of joy, humility, prayer, and contentment.
This is my eighth book of this series. I love the insights each study provides, how they inspire me to dig deeper, and the chapter-by-chapter walk through each Bible book. Though each study has a different focus, I love that they all have a uniform appearance, with various, colorful, nature-inspired boarders on their covers and spines.
If you’re interested in a Bible study series that spotlights one book of the Bible at a time, I recommend this one. It has truly been a blessing in my life, and I look forward to reading and studying more of Lydia Brownback’s studies.

Used this study through my recent reading of Philippians. While I did like the study - Lydia Brownback is a solid teacher and I love the design of the book - I did wish I got more from the study. I think I was in the mood for something more in depth, and I felt like I couldn’t relate to a lot of the application questions. This wasn’t my favorite study, but a good option if you’re looking to read Philippians soon!🩵
This is my first Brownback study & I absolutely loved it! A sweet student and I worked through it this spring semester & it was so rich and helpful for discussion and discipleship. Looking forward to doing more of her studies!
"Philippians" is a 10 week Bible study on Philippians. Each week is basically just a chapter since it's not subdivided into days. You read a section from Philippians, then the author provided an introduction to the theme of those verses. Then she asked study questions about what we read and provided related verses to look up to discover deeper insights into the answers. As in, you use the Bible to further study what a certain word or concept means in the Biblical sense. She then ended with a couple of application questions to help you think out how what we just learned affects your life. Overall, I thought that the author did a good job of providing insights and increasing my understanding of the message in Philippians.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through Amazon Vine.
This is a beautifully designed Bible study/devotional with insightful commentary and thought-provoking questions. The questions and tasks of examining other parts of the Scripture are at the just right difficulty level -- not to hard, not too easy. I really enjoyed the 10 weeks going through this book and will use and recommend others to use other volumes in this Bible study series .
Once again Lydia Brownback goes deep into Philippians and teaching insights from other scriptures so you see The Lord more clearly. It’s a book about Him as well as about the apostle Paul. Recommended for finding Joy and contentment in life! Content: Biblical and clean
