Wrecked Roommates #2

Forbidden Lyrics

Rate this book
I didn't know who Dove's sister was when we first met.
I didn't know that I'd been fooling around with her for a few months before Dove walked into my life.
I didn't know that––if I've done the math correctly––I could be the father to her sister's child.
But I do know this.
Dove has the voice of an angel, and the heart of one too.
I might not deserve her, but I refuse to let her go.
She doesn’t know that I was with her sister before we met.
She doesn’t know that her niece or nephew could be my freaking kid.
And even though it kills me, I can’t let her find out.

Kelsie is a sucker for a love story with all the feels. When she's not chasing words for her next book, you will probably find her reading or, more likely, hanging out with her husband and playing with her three kiddos who love to drive her crazy.

She adores photography, baking, her yorkie, Bob, and her devon rex, Mara. And now that she's actively pursuing her writing dreams, she's set her sights on someday finding the self-discipline to not binge-watch an entire series on Netflix in one sitting.

Worse than the first book.

0.5/5 Everything was just, no. Say no to bad story and character development kids.

It’s like the author took every annoying, triggering and heartbreaking thing about a relationship and decided to cram it in one book. In my opinion, not a single one of the characters was redeemable despite how the story turned out. The literal worst is Em or Madelyn as the revelation so blatantly revealed. She was the catalyst to it all and dear god was she absolutely horrible. Her lack of brain and common sense implicated several people’s lives and the girl still had the AUDACITY to play victim. She was even worse than her sister Dove’s naive and borderline stupid disposition.

Frankly, I just cannot get over the fact that her “boyfriend” Gibson slept with her sister and both offending parties in question tried to downplay her hurt feelings by saying that no feelings were involved when it happened and it was all just “physical.” And Dove, being the good little doormat that she was, played into it and convinced herself to be in love and happy, letting bygones be bygones at the drop of a hat. Their whole situation gave off inc*stuous vibes and felt so wrong. Like I said NONE of the characters were redeemable. Suspension of disbelief or not, nothing about this book was okay.

The second book in the wrecked roommates series, and it was worth the wait! I liked Gibbs in the first book, how he treated Reese and what we got to know of him.

I love Dove! Her heart and what she is all about that is what attracted me to her. What she brings out in Gibbs is what I expected from him. Not his broody exterior, gruff bartender, we get to see his protective creative side. Will they overcome the many obstacles thrown their way?

I am excited to see where we go next, as there are some big reveals during the story.

Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Forbidden Lyrics is a fantastic addition to the Wrecked Roommates series and I love the journey that this story took us on. It is a crazy ride through the complicated, interwoven relationships of all the characters whether they are family, friends or foes. They will face ups and downs, joy and challenges, and even though we don’t have all of the characters stories yet I was happy that Gibson and Dove finally found their happily ever after despite all the obstacles that were thrown in their way. Now, I definitely can’t wait to see where the rest of the series takes us!

I loveee this !

The FMC was the perfect example for a sheltered life, she had to experience a lot because her parents didn’t allow it before she moved away from them.

The MMC I loved him in the first book but this made it complete ♥️ the songs 🫠🫠🤤
I just wanted them together for the entire book 🤭

Favourite quotes:

“ Dove has the voice of an angel, and the heart of one too.” “ I might not deserve her, but I refuse to let her go.” ~ Gibson aka Gibbs or Sonny ❤️‍🔥

“ Because even if we don’t last forever, I know that I’ll never regret this moment. This feeling. This person. Gibson Hayes. Because he sees me. The real me. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.” ~ Dove aka Dovey 🥰

Another book in the roommates series by Kelsie Rae, and Gibson’s story was a doozy.

Messy, messy, messy. I kept thinking that in my head as I read Forbidden Lyrics! The timeline of this story overlaps Model Behavior, so there are some events that we now see from Gibson’s POV — and get all the details on his relationship with sweet, innocent bartender Dove. But what a mess the guy is! He thinks he’s not good enough for sweet Dove, and in a way he’s right. Father issues aside — and Gibbs has a ton of them — he is also keeping a huge piece of his past from her. Namely, that her sister Maddy is the same ex Em who he and Milo used to… ahem, share. And if that’s not bad enough, Em is pregnant and Gibbs doesn’t know if the baby is his.

While I loved the connection between Gibson and Dove, I HATED that he was keeping the truth about Em/Maddy from her. And I hated Maddy for not telling Dove why she shouldn’t date Gibson! They were both trying to protect her in their own ways, but it didn’t sit right with me. By the end of the book, as Kelsie Rae sets up Maddy and Milo’s story to come next, a lot of the reasons why Maddy did what she did are explained. And it kinda frees up Gibson to move forward with Dove. But it didn’t sit right with me that he kept the truth from Dove for so long!

Still, I thought that this opposites attract/coworkers story was well written. Gibbs and Dove are kind of the stereotypical good girl/bad boy, but there is a lot of depth to them both as characters. And it’s clear how conflicted Gibbs is about his growing feelings for her and wanting to tell her the truth even though he promised Em he wouldn’t.

Both Gibson and Dove feel like they are broken people. She was raised by super conservative parents and was the do-gooder to Maddy’s wild child, but Dove never felt like she was noticed for the person she is until she met Gibbs. And he is so desperate to distance himself from his famous dad that he hides himself behind song lyrics rather than using his talent in the band. Their shared love of music brings Gibson and Dove together, but will their forbidden lyrics ever be able to turn into a beautiful love song?

Want a book with all the feels? Look no farther, Forbidden Lyrics had it all! It was the second book in Kelsie’s Wrecked Roommates series. It was angsty, sweet, and left me craving more.

Dove and Gibson may have been from different worlds but there was something that pulled them together. Their chemistry was undeniable but when the pieces started to click, would they be able to keep everything together?

Holy cow! What a story! Finding someone but then finding out you dated their sister who’s pregnant…what would you do? Gibson may not have handled it the best way, but he made up for it! Loved this book!! Loved the two of them together!! And the set up for the next one…eek!!

The book is a good, and enjoyable romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry.

Omg. Another sweet book. Can I just say that Kelsie reminds me of Devney perry? Just loved this book.

Small compliant, attention to details about the tour bus would have been good. It through me off there but you, the reader, will see what I am talking about...lol

2.5 🧀

The premise had potential but how it was written felt really cliche and the FMC came off as so juvenile. She would also often contradict herself. Or characters would ask “are you sure?”, like 5 times in a row. It made me want to tear my hair out lol.

I would have liked a little bit more on how Gibson behaved with Dove or his POV on the very beginning of their relationship when Dove started to work in the bar, but I still liked Forbidden Lyrics by Kelsie Rae. There was drama but wasn't overdone. The characters had their flaws but that made the story likeable.

Wow once I started this book I was hooked and it was hard to put down. Kelsie hooks you in right from the start with Gibson and Dove's story. Dove lives with her pregnant sister Maddie as they are both estranged from their parents. Dove works at Gibson's bar since she needs a job to help her sister out with expenses. Despite her attraction to Gibson, she is convinced he hates her due to him always being standoffish and rude to her. Gibson knows Dove knows about his ex Em somehow and boy I didn't see that twist coming. Although trying not to get close to Dove he always looks out for her and helps her out whenever trouble is around. Dove while at Gibson's shared house where her best friend Reese lives hears Gibson singing and is entranced with his great singing voice. She ends up helping him with some things he has trouble with some of his songwriting. Gibson finds out Dove has a great singing voice and thinks she should do more about it. One day by accident when Fender (Gibson's brother) the lead singer for Broken Vows doesn't show when Gibson has arranged some important people to view the band to further their career. Desperate he sends Dove up to replace him despite her reluctance and when he sees her struggling with nervousness he jumps up and does a duet with her. The music producer is impressed with them and wants to hire them as support for an upcoming tour.
I received an arc for an honest review for NNBB. If you love a book with every romance, angst, twists you don't see coming you will love this book from Kelsie.

Forbidden Lyrics had me begging for this couple to get together because their chemistry was music to my ears and my heart! Gibson and Dove have been burned by the people that are supposed to love and protect them most. They are both raw and vulnerable in so many ways. As they become each other’s lifeline, it’s breathtaking to watch. They ground each other in such a beautiful way, that it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The secrets tore me up though, and I might have wanted to scream a time or two as my heart was breaking. You need to read this book for the party, the wall, the song, the scale, the stage, the utility closet, the bench and the hospital alone. Who wouldn’t want to be loved by a man who encourages you to shine so bright, it blinds him! Gibson Hayes could be my poet, while he writes me “our songs” as he promises to love and fight for me for the rest of my life any day!!!

What’s not to love about a siblings sloppy second read? I really like this one, in fact more than the first. There was angst, push and pull, a bitchy sister, lies, betrayal and heart ache. But the main thing is I def didn’t think Dove was a consolation prize so it’s a win for me. And as much as I fell for Milo in the first book, I just can’t bring myself to read his book mainly because of the h… she’s already unlikable for me and I can’t bring myself to read it 🤷🏼‍♀️

After reading the first book in this series, I was excited to get to know more about the other characters in the house. I honestly had no idea where Kelsie Rae would take this, but I really have enjoyed this series so far. All of the five best friends are so unique and quirky that you have no idea what is going to happen at the best of times. But as each book goes on you learn more and more about the characters and you also get to see sides of the previous characters and the way they act even though their story has already been told.
Both Gibbs (Gibson) and Dove instantly caught my attention back in the first book, there was just something about them that drew you in and once that happened you can’t help but want things to work for the both of them. Dove seemed like a well put together girl but in this book you can see that looks can be deceiving, not that she’s done anything to make anyone question her, just the fact that really she’s actually a sweet innocent girl who’s got a lot on her mind and with her jumping to everyone’s aid, including her sister who hasn’t exactly shown Dove that she appreciates everything she’s done for her, you can’t help but feel for her. She should be out and enjoying life and chasing after her dreams, however she hates that her parents disowned both her and her sister.
I do think that she’s such a strong character for how she handles everything in this book and you do see her grow as a person.
I loved everything about this story and the journey that it went on, I can say for sure that Kelsie is very talented and I can’t wait to see what she does with the next book. I have a feeling that a storm is brewing considering Milo just found out what’s happened. But I’ll have to wait and see how Kelsie plays it.

The minute that Dove walked into the place where Gibbs works, she is instantly attracted to him, however for some unknown reason he’s been rudeish to her and made sure to keep distance between them.
Gibbs swore to himself that he wouldn’t get involved with Dove even if she does remind him of someone, but when it becomes clear that she has ties to his ex Em…. He’s unsure what to do about everything.
It’s clear they both have chemistry but he’s not wanting to branch into unknown territory, but when he sees that she has an eye for music and knows how to sing, he starts to think things differently.
With his ex holding a secret of her own, will Gibbs reveal to Dove who his ex really is and how she ties in to Dove??? Will Dove get to chase after her dreams and find a way to be happy???

Opposites attract - An innocent waitress and a hard nose bartender

I’ll be honest, the storyline starts a little slow for my liking, but the information told is extremely relevant to the foundation of the story. And once the pace picked up, I didn’t want to put the book down. I had to know how the storyline ended.

Dove Walker comes to town to help Maddie, the sister her parents disowned when they found out Maddie was pregnant. Dove takes a job waitressing at a bar even though she’s shy and quiet. Upon meeting Gibbs, a bartender, who gives her the cold shoulder, she feels even more isolated and alone.

Until a run-in with a really vile and bitchy customer causes Gibbs to come to Dove’s rescue after which they forge a kind of friendship.

The twisted storyline only gets deeper when past relationships and secrets entwine themselves and Dove is left in the dark by all of it. Until it all comes to a head when Gibbs brother, Fender, the addict and lead band singer goes on a bender and tells Dove all the secrets….

There are many bumps in the road for Dove and Gibson, but they learn to trust and be strong for each other, working through the problems together to form a happy relationship.

Two people who never felt worthy in their own skin, connect and fall in love over music. Gibson the standoffish bartender. Dove beautiful girl that reeks of innocence and complications. Dove and Gibbs have a lot to overcome but the heart wants, what it wants. I did not realize that Dove and Gibbs story overlaps with Reece and River's story but that made it more enjoyable for me already knowing some of the history. I loved how they didn't give up and fought for their happiness irregardless of the people surrounding them. ~Cindy

"The more I read from this author, the more I like her. This is the second in this series and I'm really enjoying the six degrees of interconnected characters. The relationships are real, a bit messy, not at all easy but whether it's friendships, relationships, or familial, you can count on them to strike a chord.
Reading this was kind of like watching a train wreck. You knew it was coming, you knew it was going to be ugly, and no matter how much your head and your heart were telling you not to watch, you just couldn't help yourself. With the mother of all secrets just waiting to be uncovered, I couldn't put this story down, I had to know how it turned out. Now I can't wait for Messy Strokes." ~Shirley

(If you have ever read my other reviews of Kelsie Rae's books, you know I have an undying love for Jude.. that being said...)
I absolutely loved Forbidden Lyrics! I honestly don't know why- not that it wasn't perfectly written, or the characters just so real, there was some sort of spell cast on me when I started this book that made me fall in love with it. Kelsie Rae is amazing. I am pretty sure at this point I have said this so much her head has swollen to 10x its normal size just from my reviews. Forbidden Lyrics was well written. Gibbs and Dove are relatable but also a little mysterious, leading to great character development and a great story. Don't get me wrong, Kelsie Rae gives us the HEA we want (maybe even need these days) but the internal fights the characters have to go through just leave you on the edge of your seat.
Forbidden Lyrics might dethrone Jude as my favorite Kelsie Rae book. There I said it. I highly recommend. Now back to reread Jude and see if he can keep his #1 spot.

I am sorry, I wish I could but I can not recommend. A new author for me, I am sorry but I didn’t like it. I wanted too and kept going even though I didn’t want to keep reading. Different strokes I guess. I just didn’t feel that anyone had a good story. I didn’t feel anything for most, if not all and I couldn’t care less if they got together. The book felt like a mix of bits from every other book I’ve ever read on continual repeat! I got so frustrated reading this book that I literally threw my kindle. I can’t remember being that annoyed. The ridiculous things that happened seemed to happened over and over and over, no wonder I felt frustrated. Absolutely no one was redeemed or worth reading, no personal growth. It was like beating a dead horse. It’s just not for me. Nothing felt real, honest or worth my time. I see 5 star from some readers - must be me then. I probably won’t read this author again.

I love reading books with characters that are realistic, with flaws, quirks and traits that are relatable and fascinating. This book fits that category. All of the characters are fascinating, but Dove and Gibson do shine. Try as he might, Gibson cannot resist the pull towards Dove, the innocent, charming and warm-hearted woman his conscience tells him to leave alone. He was once involved with her sister, the sister who is now pregnant and whom Dove has come to help and support. Their attraction to each other is fierce and undeniable, but of course Gibson’s time with her sister does not remain a secret. Dove is forced to examine her feelings, her loyalties and draw upon her inner strength to make decisions that could effect more than just her life. You will have to read this very engaging book to find out how Dove and Gibson’s story develops.

Gibson and Dove's story is soooo full of angst, secret, chemistry, family drama, and siblings' love. I am rarely into Rockstar romance but I want Gibson and his bite ( heart eyes emoji.) I have to confess that Dove's personality makes me annoyed at first but when I consider her family's background, I kind of understand her. Plus her improved confidence while Gibson and Dove's relationship is slowly developed helps too. I think this series is getting better and better. While Reese and River is a forbidden brother's best friend romance, Gibbs and Dove is a forbidden ex's sister romance. The idea of the book is intriguing and interesting to me. Their chemistry is off-the-charts since Reese and River's book but in their own book, it can burn the sky. The theme is dark, forbidden, and intense but also sweet, emotional, and steamy. Kelsie also adds her sense of humour into the book and I love it. Can't wait for the next book and see how the next crew of Wrecked Roommates gets his love.

I KNOW I have read these books lol but I don't remember the details, so I am glad to reread them! I really like the banter and the innocence in this book! I was ready to strangle a certain MC for not telling the FMC the truth, but then was ready to strangle both of them for not telling another character the truth, and idk how to feel about the sister. I hated her for the majority of the book. And I don't really want her to have her HEA with Milo, but that is all I see coming down the pipe, and I don't know if I will be able to like her character in the next book. Also, I remember Reese talking about how Gibbs was covered in tattoos and how Milo did them, but it wasn't mentioned in this book at all, nor does the cover model have them, so that was a little disappointing. Lol I was ready for his FMC to be gaga over them when it was time for his book, but it didn't happen, and it made me sad.

Why can't we all just sit and read 24 hours a day and not have jobs? That's always how I feel when I get the pleasure of reading one of Kelsie Rae's books. I won't even read the blurbs when they come out because I like to be surprised and I know she won't disappoint.

Gibson's & Dove's story is a spectacular surprise! I didn't foresee where this was going at all. Honestly if I had to guess where it would go I would have been wrong in every single way. There's a lot of different aspects in this book from Gibson's messed up family to Dove's sister's secrets. It's awesome surprises will keep you guessing right up until the end. I found it extremely difficult to put this book down and continue with my daily expectations.

Forbidden Lyrics is such a great book. I fell in love with the characters while reading the first book in the series, Model Behavior. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend that one as well. In fact, I’ve read all of Kelsie’s books and I’ve loved each and every one.
This series is a little racier than most of Kelsie’s previous books, But I for one am not complaining😉 Gibson and Dove are a great match. They are magicical when they perform together. But offstage is sometimes another story. Secrets and lies can sometimes wreck even the most perfect love. This story had me reading late into the night, I just had to know how it ended. I’m sure we’ve all been there a time or two.

I really enjoyed this story. Dove was living with her sister, Maddy, to help her as she is pregnant and sick all the time. She is working at a bar and meets Gibbs who is not real nice to her. This story had so many layers to it. Gibbs had slept with her sister, her sister did't know who the father of her baby was, Gibbs' brother, Fen had a drug habit and there was the band story. It all woved together to make an intriguing story.

Gibson and Dove are explosive together!!! Lana~White Hot Reads

Forbidden Lyrics is full of angst, hard core love and chemistry and full of secrets. Gibson has fallen for Dove but when he realizes she is the sister to his ex lover, things gets sticky. When Dove and Gibson are on stage together singing, they are on fire. Gibson makes Dove feel things she's never felt before. I loved seeing all the other characters from the first book in here and can't wait for the next book. Kelsie sure has upped her game.

This is the story of Dove and Gibbs. I absolutely loved every page of the story . it was heartwarming and refreshing. The hero quite came rude in the beginning. But as the story escalated you could see his heart was big. Dove was refreshing!!She was caring and loving. Her concerns were totally understandable after knowing the truth. Author handled the situation very well and the ending was awseome. Definitely looking forward for her upcoming books!!

Dove has moved in with her sister to help look after her during her pregnancy. However, what Dove doesn't know is that her sexy co-worker that she is attracted to could be the father to her sister's baby.

This is the second book in the series but you can read it as a standalone. I liked the story it kept you interested throughout. I would recommend it. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
