Joe “Sledge” Jaggard is the gold standard for imaginative homeowners craving the three B’s: Big, Bearded, and Brawny. But this hardworking hunk isn’t risking his rep with any messy, on-the-job hookups. No way—he’ll do his playing after hours, once he scrubs the sweat off. But when a luscious little kitten hires him for a summerlong project, he’s incurably bewitched. Just his luck, she’s wearin’ the wrong man’s ring…
The lady’s got a mighty dilemma.
Becca Calhoun has inherited her gran’s overrun mansion, and is determined to restore its grandeur with Sledgehammer Inc.’s expertise. But concentrating on her To-Do List isn’t easy, not with a dirty demon singeing her six days a week with his hot green eyes. Dare the future bed-and-breakfast host follow her heart, and ditch control-freak fiancé for laid-back bad boy?
Maybe, but fate’s got other plans…
Contractor and client fall, and they fall hard. But a tumble off a tall ladder and a shocking diagnosis tests their trust and staying power, and the passionate pair learn that even the strongest bond isn’t immune to fissures.
Stung by the literary lovebug at a tender young age, JC has been devouring steamy romantic fiction ever since. Seriously… What could possibly be more delectable at the end of a rough day than a big, bad, moody brute brought to his alphalicious knees by a gorgeous, sassy-talking heroine?
Well, besides Tom Hardy showing up shirtless on your doorstep with car trouble.
Penning “I wish” fantasies while slogging through the woefully Rhett-scarce world, JC invites readers to indulge in decadent escape through her foulmouthed, passion-saturated tales.
Hot damn wowzer, I need to go cool down after this. Joe Jaggard is ALL man, tall, muscly, bearded and a dirty mouth. The stuff that he said made my jaw drop. He takes a job to do up Becca's B&B. The attraction between the two is slow burn and angsty as hell, and I was all for it. The inner voice of Joe made me giggle, and it's been a while since a book has made me laugh out loud. I'd definitely recommend to any fans of Romcoms, and to say I only read dark romance, I LOVED this. This is the first book I've read of J. C. Jayes and am definitely going to be keeping an eye out for her up and coming books.
Joe “SLEDGEHAMMER” Jaggard is LIVE, and holy hot sweats, Mr. Bewitched Contractor Man’s got quite the heated tale to tell.
Book two in the “Dirty Boys Do It Better” trilogy is LIVE on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. This raunchy and humorous ride is fast, steamy, and the perfect antidote for a sticky summer night.
I love Joe “Sledge” Jaggard’s dirty mouth. This storyline is written perfectly and the twists, oh man, they are shocking. I was definitely addicted to this book the whole time. This is a book you don’t want to rush but you also don’t want to put down. Gravedigger makes several appearances in the book which was really great. The epilogue was perfection and completely steamy. This author definitely knows how to write an amazing foul mouthed alpha.
4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ And we're back with our second installment of Dirty Boys Do It Better. This time with Joe Sledgehammer Jagguards story. As always one thing I love when reading J. C. Jaye I know I'm going to laugh. Whether it's the ridiculous situations these characters get themselves into or just how badly they handle them. Then there's the giant teddy bear men and their petite counterparts. Who despite their lack in size can handle themselves pretty well. The story was just as exciting and fast paced as Gravediggers with a surprise I didn't see coming. I adored Becca and her sometimes bumbling ways, and her best friend Tasha. Their friendship was great! I can't wait to read Moonlighters book.
Sledgehammer by JC Jaye is the second book in the Dirty Boy’s Do It Better Series. It is a standalone, but the characters from Gravedigger do make an appearance. Becca Calhoun has been wanting to break it off with her tired old fiancé for a while, due to the fact that he never seems to be able to get her motor going. That is definitely no the problem with the sexy as hell handyman she hired to fix her gran’s tired old mansion she’s hoping to make into a bed and breakfast. If anything, she seems to be having the opposite problem!
Holy smokes! The relationship between Becca and Sledge was a super angsty slow burn, but the chemistry between the two of them was off the chain right from the start! It made for a lot of tense, sexually charged moments that kept you supercharged through the whole book. Becca comes across as uptight and repressed and honestly just waiting for the right man to set her free - and Sledge is definitely that man! There’s just something about a dirty talking, sexy man that works with his hands and Sledge just fits the mold to a T. The writing was great, the internal and external dialogue super witty, and the fast pace kept me glued to my kindle till the end! I cannot wait to read Moonlighter’s book!
The build-up to the release of Sledgehammer promised a very hot bad boy with an even hotter mouth, all wrapped up in a great storyline, and J.C Jayes once again did not disappoint. I loved Joe “Sledge” Jaggard, we were promised the 3 B's, Big, Bearded and Brawny and we weren't disappointed, however, I would add a 4th B, Brilliant. I loved how we got to see inside Sledge's mind, and did it make me laugh out loud. You just knew with the simmering build-up to Becca and Joe's, romance that the coming together was going to be boiling hot, and once again Ms Jaye did not disappoint. I am still blushing, long after I turned the last page. If only there was a Sledgehammer like Joe around for every demolition.
This is my first read by JC Jaye and I loved it! She nailed it with a writing a romance that has a ton humor and chemistry with just the right amount of drama. There’s just something about a blue collar worker who is good with their hands and can dirty talk as good as the devil that will have me melting on the spot - that is Joe (aka Sledgehammer). This guy and his inner monologue had me laughing more than once, but under the gruff and grumpy exterior is a man that is as sweet as much as he is dirty. Becca is a riot - I was a little on edge with her at first, but she grew on me and I ended up loving her just as much as Sledge. These two together? Man, their chemistry is off the charts and the sexual tension between these is so thick that you’ll need something stronger than knife to cut thru it. I enjoyed the back and forth between these characters while the plot unfolded - which had a major ladder mishap that resulted in an plot twist, but drove home that these two were made for one another. Add in the hilarious and lovable side characters, I wasn’t ready to see Becca and Sledge’s story to end. I am looking forward to seeing if JC has something up her sleeve for Moonlighter next.
Sledgehammer is the second book in the Dirty Boys Do It Better. Joe and Becca's story is full of dirty talk, sexual tension and twists and turns to keep you gripped. There were lots of witty banter and entertaining moments to add an extra dimension to the story. Sledge has a rough exterior but beneath it there is a soft heart just waiting to be loved. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and has sparks flying every which way. If you like a story full of dirty talk that could make a sailor blush then this is the book for you.
This was my first time reading a JC Jaye book. I enjoyed it. I’d like to read Clive and Casey’s book, which is before this.
This was a sexy, fun read. I liked the main characters and the side characters too. Especially Moonlighter and Gravedigger.🔥
Becca definitely made the right choice in the end, just took a while and two hospital trips to get there!
Joe… a big burly, muscly contractor. An alpha. Poor guy, I did want to punch him in the face at one point, but otherwise I did feel for him, more than once!! 🥰
I loved the epilogue and where they were I’m their lives. That made me smile. They came a long way!♥️
Becca was raised by her grandmother and they always talked about opening up a B&B. With her inheritance Becca buys her grandmothers old house back and is now having it remodeled into the B&B of her dreams. Her controlling fiancé is not happy about her decision and is very vocal about his opinions. Joe (Sledge) is the contractor in charge of the remodel. These two are constantly day dreaming about each other but can something really happen? Can they really make a go of it? I really Enjoyed this book. I laughed Out loud at some parts and gasped at others. There were a few enjoyable twists and turns that made the book even better! I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.
Ok cold shower coming right up!! Your sure gonna need it when this dirty talking alpha construction worker starts working for Becca on her B & B fixer upper things start heating up real quick.
I’ll bet Mr. Smokin’ Hot Contractor isn’t platonic at the end of his dates, not even remotely.
Smoking hot and hilarious gets me every time.
Straight from the get-go, I’d secretly renamed the petite beauty “Kitten,” tagging her the feline-ish moniker in the cluster chambers of my mind.
This second installment in the "Dirty Boys Do It Better" series follows the captivating relationship between Joe “Sledge” Jaggard, a rugged contractor with charisma, and Becca Calhoun, a determined woman looking to restore her grandmother's inherited mansion.
The story unfolds as Sledge is hired for a summer long renovation project at Becca's estate. Their immediate chemistry is electric, leading to moments filled with tension and longing.
We have the instalove trope, and although it was great in the first book, I just didn’t get the same feeling for this one!
The plot thickens when an accident leads to a shocking diagnosis, adding stress to their relationship, both characters confront their vulnerabilities and the realities of their situation.
Sledge is the blue collar heartthrob, exuding strength and charm while maintaining a soft, caring side. (His constant need to refer to himself as “sledgie was a little off putting!) His reluctance to mix work and pleasure added tension, (he’s not one for running off with another man’s woman!) but he can’t get Becca out of his mind.
Becca is a great character, torn between her responsibilities and her desires. Her struggle with her controlling fiancé enhances the emotional stakes, and i definitely want her to ditch him and embrace for feelings for joe.
The dialogue is witty and sharp, there were moments you couldn’t help but laugh. And when poor Joe takes a tumble, it certainly makes for a little drama and tension. The ending was a little bit of a shock!
"Sledgehammer" is a delightful combination of steamy romance and heartfelt moments. JC Jaye’s skillful storytelling and well rounded characters make it an enjoyable read for fans of contemporary romance.
If you’re looking for a passionate love story that’s both fun and emotional, this book is a must read!
This is a short, fun, down and dirty read. This is book two in the Dirty Boys Do It Better Trilogy.
Becca is set on carrying out her and her grandmas plans, using her inheritance to buy back her family home and turn it into a B&B. Becca hires Sledgehammer Inc. as her contractor for the major renovation. Becca and Sledge have instant chemistry, the problem? She’s engaged, and the drama doesn’t stop there.
✨Review✨
I like the characters, I especially enjoyed the internal monologue of Becca and Sledge. They were at their funniest inside their own heads. Randy was a piece of work, and I hated him from the get go, of course. I feel like Joe “Sledge” is a one of a kind character, and I found his dirty talk in the bedroom (or wherever, let’s be honest) to be hilarious. Now if we could just get everyone to communicate, maybe things could have happened differently. Becca and Sledge both had their downfalls, and I definitely wanted to smack both at one point or another (I got over it and everyone lived). 😂
I enjoyed the smut, actually I loved it. This was an insta love in my opinion, not much relationship building needed with all the chemistry and unbridled attraction to one another. The book was more than smut, there was a plot in there too. Joe and Becca have tons to overcome throughout the book, and there was never a dull moment. The author keeps you on your toes throughout, and the book has a good ending. I’m hopeful there will be snippets of Sledge and Becca in Book Three.
All in all, it was a quick, fun read and I enjoyed it.
I think the only reason I finished this book was out of disbelief that it was rated so highly and I am mad at myself for wasting time with this book.
Spoiler alert in this review.
One thing that was really annoying is that there was wayyyyy too much time that the characters spent talking to themselves .
Also, when it was written in Sledge’s viewpoint, Rachel came off as a giggly airhead. But when it was written from Rachel’s point of view, she was suddenly a decisive , take charge, strong woman.
Rachel was engaged to a self absorbed jerk who suddenly shows up at the B&B acting jealous and suspicious of super stud , Sledge, even though he hasn’t been involved in her life much the past month.
Rachel is planning on breaking it off with him the whole book but reason after, lame reason why she hasn’t.
The book is written in a tone that you think it’s soft porn but there isn’t any sex until the very end.
Sledge gets caught in his truck, drunk and being given oral pleasure by someone and this is never resolved with Rachel throughout the entire book. Suddenly the next day, he falls, hits his head, gets amnesia and while he is in the hospital, Rachel exclaims that she loves him after only knowing him for 2 weeks while he has been a big grump AND caught with his pants down the day before with another woman.
How did this get rated so highly and, ARGH, why didn’t I believe the first chapter in how terrible it was?? Bad on me for finishing.
I cannot believe all the 4 & 5 star ratings for this book!!! God, the insta-love, so ridiculous, the stupid nicknames. Even the dirty talk was horrible, so disjointed. Nothing flowed! Let me summarize this book so you don’t have to read it.
Becca hires Joe (contractor) to renovate a house she wants to turn into a B&B. Becca already has a fiancé who she absolutely hates (I don’t know why she’s engaged to him if she hates him so much). However both Becca & Joe are insanely attracted to each other (a little too obsessively attracted to one another. It’s not sexy, just creepy). Within a couple of days, she decides to break up with her fiancé and get with Joe. However, before she actually breaks up with her fiancé, she has an intense make out session with Joe. During the intense make out session, they are interrupted. Once she leaves, Joe, thinking that Becca will not break up with her fiancé, goes to his friend’s bar and gets shitfaced, makes out with a skank in his car in the parking lot, even letting her give him a blow job (He changes his mind at the last second but, poor baby, he is too drunk and cannot stop the crazy advances of the skank). Becca catches him and leaves. The following day Joe shows up to work at the B&B, falls off a ladder, hits his head, and lo and behold, has amnesia. Becca takes care of him and seemingly forgives him for his transgression. Even without his memory of her (i.e. one week), Joe falls in love with her within a few days and they both express their love for each other. The end! Utter trash. Do yourself a favour and skip this.

Joe "Sledgehammer" Jaggard has taken on a new project. A massive renovation. Rebecca "Becca" Calhoun has a dream of turning her late grandmother's almost condemned mansion into a Bed and Breakfast with fancy rooms, a different color for each one. She is also on the verge of becoming a Mrs. to a sharp dressed financial adviser who doesn't care about her dreams.
The flames and sparks were so hot that they had me looking for a fan! Joe and his "Kitten" set fire to the imagination with her teasing and his dirty thoughts about wanting someone he can't have. The angst factor was off the charts. This one makes me want to go find my own hot as sin, dirty talking, contractor if for nothing else than to add to my fantasy files.
While it wouldn't hurt to read Gravedigger first, because he and his Sunshine's story is just as smoking, it isn't necessary for the plot. They do make a few appearances, and the author also gives a few insights into Moonlighter, who is getting his own hot story. I love me some dirty talking, blue collar men who know how to treat a woman and make me sweat!
I really enjoyed Sledgehammer by J.C Jaye it is book two in the dirty boys do it better and can be read as a standalone but I do recommend that you read Gravediggers book as well . I loved the chemistry between the couple they had an intense attraction for one another that was super steamy , I though it was funny how every one kept interrupting them when they had some HOT moments . There was two things that bugged me a bit one I can't mention cause I don't want to give anything away but the other was that the heroine was engaged when she developed feelings for the hero and was still engaged when things heated up between them I still think that's a form of cheating even though she was going to break off the engagement anyway and then she tells the hero that cheating is her done point I just thought that was a bit hypocritical but over all good story with interesting characters . I can't wait to read what's to come in the series and to were the couples are at .
I didn't think I would love someone as much or more than Gravedigger, but then I met "Sledgie." I was wondering if I would read about Digger at all and if they were all part of the same "world" and turns out, they are. So yay! I wanted to know more about each of these characters and how they are all connected.
Becca is engaged to a preppy, elitist, snob that she has no attraction for. And then there's Mr. Jagger who she has hired to work on her B&B, that she's on fire for! Which, with that filthy mouth of his and those thoughts, I don't blame her. I was too! Because whew, I meet a guy like him and I make no promises!
Definitely a series to keep your eyes out for if you love filthy talking, blue collar, make you hot under the collar men!
Where am I able to order me one of these nasty talking alphas?? Because, oh my god!!! Joe “Sledgehammer“ Jaggard and his mouth left me yearning for more! And, Becca was an amazing companion for this burly man, taking his mouth like the pro she was. Not to mention, Sledge being the first man to talk to her this explicitly lol.
The plot was phenomenal! Not to mention the sexual build up, twists, turns, and unexpected surprises that blew my mind completely off the screen. Absolutely loved how JC brought me in to the scene with detailed descriptions, and well built characters. Definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a nasty, descriptive adventure!!
I had high hopes for the infamous Joe 'Sledgehammer' Jaggard... he did not disappoint. He was just as I expected... sexy, dirty talking with a bit of sweetness mixed in. I knew he'd have a hard exterior with a soft center. His center was the only thing soft when he laid eyes on Becca. Becca... I can't say that I was a fan. She was a little too flippy floppy for me. I know that things went down in a weird way but she never really took ownership in her part of the conflict.
Anyways... I really liked the story and being able to see characters from the previous book. I can't wait to finally read Moonlighter's story and the woman who sweeps him off his feet.
It was a good read. It had a fun twist with the amnesiac twist but I think he should’ve groveled more for the dumbass move that he made. *AHEM.
It had some steam but it was lacking in some areas and I was getting frustrated with Joe as well. Becca was getting on my nerves with her avoided and dodging everyone at every corner. I mean just man up and tell Randy. Man up and tell Joe. Put on your big girl panties and stop being a baby. So yea, I got frustrated about a few repetitive issues.
It really wasn’t angsty though. It was an easy read and mostly likable characters. With enough dirty talk and steam to fuel enough to avoid a DNF. I love me a big ass blue collar H.

Joe “Sledge" Jaggard with his smart attitude and his mouthwatering physical characteristics is exactly the kind of man most women wish they could meet. Wow just wow because apparently Becca's guy picker is broken; because her so called fiancee is the kind of greasy character who sees himself as being the best pick of the litter. This is the kind of story I could read over and over an never get bored with.

Hot construction worker hired for a fixer-upper by the bride-to-be…what could go wrong??
A jerk fiancé, a tattooed BFF, no A/C and sandwiches are like the side-kicks in this book, filled with steamy glances, too short cut-off jeans and a fall from a ladder that get the juices flowing in this hot and wet quick insta-lust and love read!

I loved this the chemistry between the two was amazing along with dual point of view allowed me to see both sides of the story. It was a great read that had me giggling and the dirty and naughty thoughts unknowingly shared between the two characters. The plot was great with twists and turns that weren't drastic but big enough to throw a wrench into the plans of everyone.
Five out of five stars.

Want to see my hammer!! When reading this your gonna need something cold to drink And something spit to eat . If you love book 1 your gonna go crazy for book two. Jaggard mind is so dirty u can't help but feel a little dirty yourself. Becca owns a B & B hires jaggard to help her with it. Needed something new something that will bring her a little more then she has. Fireworks are set with these two.
This is Joe and Becca's story and is loaded with tons of nasty talk and banter. Joe Jaggard (“Sledgehammer”) was hired to do the repair work needed on Becca's B&B inherited from her grandmother. Joe and Becca have a strong attraction to each other, despite her engagement to Randy who is very obnoxious. Will Sledgehammer and Becca start a relationship and dump “Ran”?
Dirty boys do in fact… DO IT better. I was not expecting this book to head in the direction that it did. It seriously had me on edge. All the freaking sexual tension and dirty…PHEW! **wipes sweaty forehead.** Really enjoyed this sucker. Expect to get frustrated and a little turned on.
Sledge and Becca’s story is ripe with hot steaming kisses, sexual tension and a few laughs. I loved the epilogue.
The second book in the series brings Joe/Sledge and Becca's story. The author brings strong characters and weaves an interesting story. She brings enough twists to keep you glued to the pages and delivers a great read. Loved the epilogue!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Joe Jaggard is hired to fix up Becca's B&B that she inherited from her grandmother. Becca is engaged to an uptight control freak guy. Joe and Becca have instant chemistry and slow burn. Will they be able to become a couple or will Becca end up marrying the uptight fiancée? A sexy, steamy and fun read.
