He became the weapon they needed. But he wasn't prepared for the war they'd ask him to wage.
For his entire life, Ben Hutchins has had the decisions made for him, whether he knew it or not. After successfully beating back the Imperium armada at the Battle of Icarus, the Confed is scrambling to bolster its decimated ranks. Humanity cannot stand against the might of the Imperium alone. If they are to survive the coming war, they’ll need allies.
While his father works to ensure that the Confed Navy has the technology needed to survive another attack, Ben is called upon to pave the way for an alliance with the Alarians. But first he’ll need to free them from the threat that lurks in their midst.
As Ben races to stamp out the dying embers of the Imperium vanguard, the enemy gathers its strength. But when he’s stonewalled on his latest mission, Ben is once again thrust into a fight he’s not prepared for. And for the first time in his life, he’ll need to make a choice that will determine his future… with devastating consequences.
Will Ben sacrifice his body once more to save those he loves? Or will he sacrifice his soul to save humanity and its new allies?
The Terran Alliance is the action-packed second book in the Terran Menace military science fiction series. If you enjoy explosive combat, sinister plots, and decisions with gut-wrenching consequences, then you’ll love J.R. Robertson’s gripping sci-fi epic.
J.R. Robertson is a science fiction author who pays the bills by pretending to be a vineyard manager. While fantasy stories and the occasional thriller populate his library, his first love will always be science fiction. A hopeless optimist, he writes science fiction because no genre has the ability to inspire people to constantly be striving to reach greater heights quite like it. But also because handheld rail guns, obviously.
He lives in Michigan's beautiful Leelanau County with his wife, daughter, terrible husky, and two hermit crabs. He grows grapes by day and writes by night. He doesn't sleep. When not working, writing, or not sleeping, he spends his time outside with his family on the boat, hiking, snowshoeing, or just siting on the dock with a cold beverage. The terrible husky is usually missing, having freed herself from her tie-out and run away again.
Just finished reading the first two entries in the series alongside the audiobook companion and I’ve got to say, that was probably the best read I’ve had in a good bit and I consume tons of sci-fi. Definitely left us with more questions than answers towards the end there, but that just gives me more to look towards in book three. This review is definitely lacking in descriptions of the content of the book, but that’s just because I hate reviews that include tons of potential spoilers or plot points. No issues with grammar and I didn’t notice any typos throughout the two books. Things are definitely starting to bleed into the metaphysical and I’m loving it. Thanks for a great read!
Classic space opera, villains, heroes, royalty, multiple alien races and interesting tech. The world building is adequate and characters are fairly well fleshed out and believable. I like my science to be a little harder because I enjoy reading the reasoning behind how some of the tech could function. I sense Robertson is a fan of Smith and Hubbard and that's not a bad thing. All in all I enjoyed books 1 and 2 and recommend them to readers. Now I am trying to find book 3 on Amazon and see where the story goes from here.
Congratulations to J.R. Robertson for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
Amazing. Great sequel to the initial book. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for an exciting military sci-fi story. Lots of plausible action and quick pace. Another real page turner. The authors end note is spot on. I just downloaded Book 3: Terran Allegiance.” Fingers crossed that there will be a book 4 - as implied in the book 2 authors note.
Really fun to read. Not as good as the first book in the series, but still really good. The author is really creative and this scifi series offers some new elements which I found to be most enjoyable!! 100% recommend!!!!
Awesome adventure full of fast paced action and packed with intrigue makes this an addictive storyline. The characters strong and easy to get into.I really liked book I highly recommend it.
Walking in the steps of Heinlein, this is superior mi!itary science fiction. I'm a pacifist myself, but I'm not averse to a literary thrill-ride and this series certainly pushes the buttons!
This series is totally appealing to me from a sci-fi and action page turner. Ben continues hid adventures to vanquish his enemy and the story spins into some crazy directions in the end with a big teaser.
Been quite some time since I’ve had an author grab my attention and keep it like Mr. Robertson has done in these last 2 books. Here definitely keeps you flipping pages and hoping there’s a next book in the series. Will done sir!
Reminiscent of ee ‘doc’ smith and the Lensman series!! Well written and very enjoyable read. Highly recommended. Anxious to read the next one in the series. Quite a cliffhanger in this one!!
Walk into a big ai processor and I wonder why traps keep getting sprung on you lol. They really shouldn’t have keep using their secret weapon as a front line soldier. By hey … maybe they can copy him.
Good read. Wide ranging space battles among three adversaries. Plenty of action and back stabbing political intrique. Military activity from the grunt level.
Well the end to this book is a true twist I wasn’t expecting, which is a nice surprise. I’m a fan of Ben and Mabel and hope the next book lives up to the first two.
Even worse than the first book in the series! Schematic plot, derivative thread-bare world building, plastic characters. Even the main idea "borrowed" from Weber's Dahak series. AI aux Machina FTW!
