The people have spoken. The dragons must die. Will ignorance destroy everything the dragons’ magic has created?
Leah, rider of the last queen dragon, Aaliyah, would do anything to open the lines of communication with the people of Heliok. But the time for negotiations have ended and war is edging ever closer. And when the smell of blood reaches her queen, they know it’s time to retreat, but she doesn’t count on the number of people who have turned against them.

Troyer will stop at nothing to purge his planet of the leaching dragons. Furious over having to tithe his hard-earned crops to the dragons and their lazy riders, he’s motivated to drive them all from his world. His army is ready. They are thirsty to draw dragon blood. Nothing will stop their advance.

When the armies attack, the dragons have a choice. Fight and die, or flee and live. No matter what they decide, the outcome will prove disastrous. Yet, the planet's survival was entrusted to the dragons’ elemental powers.

What will have to happen before the war will end?

Before the Fall is the magical prequel novella in the Dragon’s Magic epic dragon fantasy series. If you like resilient heroines, love fast-paced action, and like elemental magic, then you’ll adore Amy Proebstel’s touching tale.

This is a great prequel to a series. The plot is well-conceived and written and the characters are well described. This is the story of the time when the Dragons decided to leave the human realm. There are cation scenes, treachery, and genuine emotional scenes between humans and beasts when departure arrives. 5 Stars definitively.

This is a 0.5 prequel to the author’s main series a available as a free novella when you join her NL. It’s framed as a story a historian tells the children - probably to set up how 5 magical objects came into being in the main series.

Dragons and their 10% tithing have pissed off the local populace who want them off the planet and are willing to exterminate them and their riders. Substitute dragons with aliens and you have the essence of any fight-the-alien-invasion movie. I found it curious that the name of the dragon leader Jehoban sounds a lot like Jehovah, a Latinized rendering of the Hebrew God.

I didn’t quite understand (or then completely missed) what did the dragons do that amounted to tyranny and what the 10% tithe was actually used for; also, I didn’t find an explanation why the dragons had to interfere to keep up the magic on that planet and what exactly would change after they left. Maybe this is all explained in the main series, but not knowing chafed on me rather than intrigued me when reading the prequel. I did like the writing style and the emotional parting scene. Loved that dragons were plotted out as an alien race come to help humans - that would explain so much of Earthen dragon lore as well.

Recommended for fantasy fans on the lookout for new indie authors who want a sample of their writing before launching into a full series; also recommended if you love epic books about dragons and dragon lore with a dash of space opera.

Off to a great start for the series. Another new author for me that has captured my attention. I thought it had excellent world building that had me anxious for book 1. So what did I do? I bought all 3 of course.
The story is about dragons and their riders who helped keep things running smoothly for people. There was one man that despised the dragons and their riders. Supplying food for them caused alot of the people to be angry. So a group was gathered and they went for dragon blood.
Loved it & on to book 1 so I can see what happens.

Talya, otherwise known as Grandma to all the children in Heliok, is a wonderful story teller. She spins wonderful stories of dragons, war, magic, and a beautiful place that once was Heliok. Is she really just telling stories? Is there truth in what she says? Is she planting seeds of hope and wonder for these children of the future?
I very seldom come across an author who's stories captivate me enough to read them numerous times. Amy is one of them. This can be enjoyed by readers of all ages.

A story told to a group of children. Two sides, pitted against each other. Both wanting what they feel is best for their world. Dragons and their riders wanting to stay together and protect Heliok with their magic. The others tired of having to give part of their hardwork to the dragons wanting to be free. Which side is right? Will anyone win or will it lead to everyone losing? Where they ever real or is it just a story?
