I have to admit: this was smart, unique, entertaining book and I actually enjoyed inner monologues of the characters, cultural references, dating apps’ false advertisement and side effects of virtual build relationships and of course hiring literary Bergeracs as ghost writers to find your ideal match is great plot idea!

But the book was too much wordy and too slow for me! Nearly half of the book, both characters focused on their ghost writing careers and deal with so many absurd situations with their clients and gave each other mean names, cold shoulders, sneaky and hostile glares. The romance parts and their back stories left for the second half of the book and you gotta read a lot of pages till you reach the juicy parts. ( unfortunately we waited too much for GreatScot and DuschessB’s matching parts: which are the online nicknames of our couple.

I wish we may see the matching part and their frenemies to friends to lovers without knowing their identity story-line earlier. And I didn’t like much about Miles: I found him so pretentious, arrogant and I couldn’t empathize with his heartbreak with his ex who cheated and dumbed him, expecting another man’s child. But I liked Zoey and her relationship with Margareth (boss, mentor, big sista), her struggles to gain her freedom and discover the outer world parts, her insecurities and awkwardness attracted my attention. She was lovely kind of quirky character and I hate the guts of her family.

Overall: We have lovely heroine and not so ideal book-boyfriend, irritating hero, smart banters, dialogues, inner monologues. But as I told before the pace is too slow, wordy and we spent so much time till we learn more about characters and their so slow burn chemistry. The book seems like more about online datings’ parody than a cute, sweet romance. I can see the both of the authors are so talented but I wish they could edit some parts and build the couple’s love story a little earlier. I was about to stop reading so many times and it was a little painful experience for me to focus on the story.

So I’m giving smart, humorous dialogues and references: 4 stars

Romance and chemistry : 2 stars

On average :I’m giving 3 stars. I still want to read this duo’s new books. This one has so much potential and promising start. I wish I could love it more or skip the first half to reach the second and more satisfying parts of the book.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for sharing this entertaining story in exchange my honest review.

Oh gosh but this rom com was SO CUTE. It felt like a mash up between “Hitch” and “You’ve Got Mail.” The main characters were darkly funny, rather anti-social and fighting over the same coffee table in their favorite NYC coffee bar where they both wanted to sit during the day and pretend to be other people for work as ghostwriters who worked on dating sites chatting and making profiles for people who aren’t good at small talk.

The dialogue is SO FUNNY. And the scenes where these two literally melt down over three-day old free biscotti and can’t seem to pull themselves together and be the adult in the situation (either of them) are so comedic and perfectly timed. I loved the barista! When Miles and Zoey are both assigned to ghostwrite profiles (basically chat with each other pretending to be the other’s matches), things get hilarious. Their clients may be slow to warm to each other at first, requiring some even more intense pseudo-flirting, but between date stakeouts, some YUMMY food descriptions and a lot of I hate you but really I don’t, these two were completely cute together. Will definitely be waiting to see what this author duo pens next.

I received an advance copy of this book from net galley and the publisher in return for an honest review. Release date for this book is 26 May 2020

This is a cute whimsical rom-com of a story. This is definitely a story that millennials will relate to and even though I am a bit older than a millennial, I still felt drawn to the characters. This story is basically an updated take on the movie “you’ve got mail”. It was an easy read with a very satisfying ending. I enjoyed it immensely.

Tash Skilton are two authors, with two distinct voices, writing one book… this book. Did it work?

And…

Should “ghosting” and “a love story” be in one sentence?

Afterall…

From what I understand…

“Ghosting is a relatively new colloquial dating term that refers to abruptly cutting off contact with someone without giving that person any warning or explanation for doing so. Even when the person being ghosted reaches out to re-initiate contact or gain closure, they are met with silence.”

Well…

Is it time for me to walk away from rom-coms? Are they too similar with their tropes?

Or…

Am I just over-filled by these cute-sy love stories?

Or…

Have I just outgrown them?

Afterall…

I am a senior.

And…

I’m not talking about high school!

Okay…

The story isn’t bad. It is a cute, entertaining, low angst romp with likable characters moving towards a happily-ever-after ending.

And…

Who wouldn’t want to escape into something playful and fun? Especially when you can enjoy the back-and-forth quips between the characters.

But…

What about that happily-ever-after ending?

Well…

Was it too abrupt? Nicely tidied up? Did the emotional work sort itself out, and we as readers are just to assume that all will be well?

Or…

Is this just the way of all rom-coms?

Okay…

Ignore me, and consider reading this book anyway…

Because…

There are other reviews out there that absolutely loved this one. I’m probably just being a grumpy, old senior outlier.

Sarah and I wrote this with one basic directive: to make each other laugh. I hope it makes you laugh too. It’s our love letter to Nora Ephron, Carrie Fisher, and all the wonderful rom-coms that have been our pick-me-ups when we most needed it.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It´s a sloooow burn type of love and I actually love it. Definitely cute and feel-good. I did enjoy most of it, I loved that there was really no drama just to make plot thicker. Characters were cute, quirky and deeper than I expected. The only reason it´s not getting 5 stars its because the writers used parentheses, quite a lot, and I really really don´t like that in a book. Overall it was worth the read.

I'm obsessed, if you can't tell, with Shop Around the Corner/you've got mail takes.

I don't know why. I kind of hate the "don't know who other person is," ability for lying and deeply disturbing vulnerability.

And yet...something about the concurrent timeline of in-person animosity and online flirtation is my absolute cat-nip. Like you kind of find the other person so irritating they are attractive? Cool. I like... Totally get that.

This one started out a little clunky. I enjoyed the characters, secondary, primary, all. I enjoyed the setting as well. As someone who loves the place where I live, I understand but Miles's and Zoey's ties to their geography. As someone who likes experiencing new things but really needs to feel brave in doing so, I understood Zoey's tendency to stay close to her apartment in her new city. Anyway, I really liked both characters. Miles's relationships really helped establish him as someone other than the New York City snobby hipster, and Zoey's showed her grounding existed more to a person or people than a place.

And this book made me laugh. At least, it was totally amusing and enjoyable. And instead of being one of the worst moments, the reveal was a best moment.

It's a slow burn, but well paced, although I might've liked a little more post-misunderstanding. And, as I said the beginning felt clunky. Either I got used to it or it became less awkward as the book moved on.

I would give this a 3.5, rounding up bc I can see revisiting and because it was a super charming diversion.

I think that what I liked most of the book is what most reviewers didn't like at all: the sloooow burn romance. As Zoey says (to her client, Bree), "it'll be so much hotter and more satisfying after all that waiting and waiting, all that buildup rocketing through your bodies, it'll be like... [she] make[s] an "explotion" noise, complete with hand movements."

The story is quite original, it has the key ingredients of a rom-com, witty dialogues, and (from my very personal point of view) likeable characters. I really like Zoey. She's funny, smart, but insecure (due to understandable reasons). On the other hand, Miles seems very self-confident and also sharp-witted.

Zoey and Miles relationship reminded me of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in You've Got Mail (one of my favourite movies), and there are a couple of (literal) references to the movie as well. You can see what I mean when they meet at the café.

In summary, quite enjoyable, hard to put down, witty dialogues, and a slow burn romance.

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

DNF at 60%. To be honest I really really wanted to love this book but I just couldn't with it.

This book has such an interesting synopsis, two I was really excited going into it. I think my main gripe with it is that things felt very contrived. Like for example how the main character moves to New York feels so incredibly unrealistic that it really irritated me. Also, I think there should have been twice the amount of interactions between Miles and Zoey. I understand that they are interaction when they don't really know it, but I didn't connect with those moments half as much as when they were together in person.

I don't know maybe I was in a slump, but I just wanted more. 2/5 stars.

Terminado "No eres tú, soy yo".

A non-reader friend found this on tiktok and sent it to me; the premise was very interesting AAAAND it was on huge sale (tbh, I probably wouldn’t have bought/read it otherwise, especially since it wasn’t on KU).

The first 25% took me like 4? 5? days to read - it just wasn’t doing anything for me; lots of dense info-dumping and copious internal monologue with little break. And then it started to get better after the 30% mark.

Some of the reviews (that I just now glanced at) had issues with the characters, but I didn’t - and I’m discounting the first 25% because I genuinely can’t remember what happened. I’m also not familiar with whatever it is that this kind of ripped off, so my oblivion saved me from another potential point-of-contention. That being said, the romance between the protagonists was l i g h t and lacking for the most part. I wouldn’t have minded that much if the bit (because it really was the smallest tease of a bit) after their romance begins was worthwhile (it wasn’t).

Recommend only if it’s on sale - not worth the $23 (cad) price tag for an e-book that is not otherworldly and life changing.

I can't believe I'm about to say that I enjoyed this hate to love romance! Ok, it wasn't exactly hate to love, but they definitely were snarky to each other in the beginning. This was a cute romance about two ghost writers who were both writing for different dating websites. They each have a client they are helping find love via dating websites, and they do that by typing for them. They don't realize that actually they are falling in love with each other (because they don't know the other one is a ghost writer).
Some parts of the book were in the slower side, but all in all I thought it was a good read! I feel like we could have done without the boss' chapters because those were just weird. I did enjoy that this takes place in a city (I love city stories)! I'd definitely read more by this author and thought the idea was very clever for a romance.

This is a well written and entertaining romantic comedy that was a perfect distraction. Native New Yorker miles and reluctant transplant from LA zoey bump into each other and immediately create a rivalry based on their fight over the free day old biscotti. Both of them are starving artists and unknown to them they have the same unique job - ghostwriting for clients on dating web sites. Miles is trying to put his life back together after his fiancé cheated on him and got pregnant by the other guy. Zoey is trying to come out of her shell and embrace life as a New Yorker.

Ghosting is a pick-me up, witty rom-com, where Miles and Zoey are both cynycial ghostwriters for competing companies who specialise in helping people with their online dating (a little Cyrano). This delivered exactly what was promised - a fun, entertaining read.

The characters felt relatable and likeable, and the romance was very slow-burn. I would have actually liked to see a little more of these two actually together!

A veces, resultaba exasperante-.

Both Zoey and Miles work as ghostwriters. Not for novelists, but for dating services. Unbeknownst to the other, they are having a sort of online relationship with each other, while IRL, they are nemeses battling daily for the big table at the cafe across the street. Slowly, the competition goes from cutthroat to friendly, and some real feelings begin to emerge. But, will their connection thrive offline?

So. Much. Fun! More often than not, when I pick up a "rom-com", it's not quite what I was expecting. This however lived up to its rom-com label, and had me laughing loudly and often.

Here are five things I really Loved about Ghosting: A Love Story:

1. I thought the premise was brilliant! What are the chances of two people with matched online profiles BOTH using ghost writers to help them get a date? Probably slim to none, but it made for a really fantastic storyline. I liked the way Zoey and Miles interacted with both their clients and each other. The meetings, the chats, the dates provided many opportunities for comedic moments, and the authors utilized them well. Just wait until you get to delight in their banter, and bear witness to some of their antics!

2. It's a bit of two-fer romance. While we watch Zoey and Miles slowly fall for each other, we also get to see a relationship form between their clients. I really enjoyed all of these characters, and especially loved having two couples to root for.

3. Cheese! Yes, there was a lot of cheese talked about and consumed over the course of this book, and I was down for it. I kind of wish that Cheese pop-up restaurant was a real place, because I would make it my first post-quarantine stop.

4. Miles' parents were the best! There actually aren't many scenes, where his parent appear on page, but Miles speaks of them fondly. He was this heart-on-his-sleeve romantic, because he was so inspired by his parents' own love story, and it's a good one. I am getting all mushy over here just thinking about it.

5. Mary for the win! Mary was Zoey's former boss back in LA. She was a one-time actress with a cult following, and now a writer and script doctor. My goodness! She was hilarious! Every time she phoned, texted, or emailed, I couldn't help but giggle. She was so over the top, but so wonderful too. I loved, who she was for Zoey, but also the way she acted like her fairy godmother, even if it was not apparent from the start.

Sarvenaz Tash called this her and Skilton's love letter to Nora Ephron, and it definitely reads that way. The book had the signature humor, banter, and feels of a Nora Ephron rom-com, while still being fresh, new, and uniquely their own.

Reading slump suck! I tried to read but then I just stopped reading. This is a slowwwww burning story and I almost DNF this book lol

Btw I felt confuse at first but then I realized there are two point of views lol from Miles and Zoey. They work as a ghostwriter for a different company who help people with their online dating profile and I was like who the hell use that kind of service? Especially when they chat with the potential matches on behalf of their client asdfghjkl but yeah this is a modern world so maybe this thing does exist.

I don't like any of them and the only character that I like was Mary, Zoey's ex boss aka friend.

Super slow burn, but listen...it was cute and my brain can only handle so much right now. Will warn that there's a boss who is thoughtlessly racist and the heroine checks him for it.
