Dangerous magic saturates the world. Dragons, giants, and sentient trees roam the earth. As the apocalypse unfolds, the fate of humanity rests with a small group of teens.
Garrett Turek survived his first run-in with the sinister Apep but surviving came at a great cost. Breanne Moore – the beautiful girl from his dreams who traveled thousands of miles to help him – was snatched away. Now he will stop at nothing to get her back, even if it means ignoring an ancient prophecy and the destiny laid out for him since his birth. To find Breanne, Garrett and his friends must leave the safety of their small Midwestern town and travel across a country in turmoil, contending with dragons, giants, and shapeshifting trees. But their true foe may be someone from Garrett’s past – someone growing in power and hungry for revenge.
In Mexico, Breanne and young Gabi have escaped the clutches of Apep and the King of the Giants, finding safety in a hidden cenote. But in order to save a loved one, they must abandon their safe haven and strike out on a dangerous journey through a jungle filled with creatures enhanced by the power of Apep’s magic. No matter what, Breanne must keep Gabi safe, protecting her not only from the new dangers that seem to lurk around every corner, but also from herself.
Why are the trees of the world waking and walking? Why are some able to shapeshift? And what do they want with Garrett Turek?
Can Garrett and the others find Breanne in time to save her, or will they be the ones in need of saving?
Can Breanne protect Gabi on their journey or will leaving the safety of the cenote be a deadly mistake?
The Days of Myth is the third book in the award-winning God Stones YA contemporary fantasy series. If you enjoy well-developed mythical creatures anchored in a world where the unbelievable feels believable, then you’ll love Otto Schafer’s coming-of-age adventure.
Will you have the courage to discover the secrets revealed in The Days of Myth?
Otto Schafer grew up exploring the small historic town in central Illinois featured in his first work of fiction, The Secret Journal. If you visit Petersburg, Illinois you may find locations familiar from the book. You may even discover, as Otto did, that history has left behind cleverly hidden traces of magic, whispered secrets, and untold treasures.
Otto is currently working on the third book in the Wrack and Ruin series, set to release in early 2025.
He and his loving wife reside in a quiet log cabin tucked away in the woods. You can often find him sitting out back by the koi pond, whittling words into stories for his readers.
Edit: Just finished the audiobook and really love how the narrator makes this book come to life. He really gets into the story and make you think your listening to an old Time Radio program.
Each book has gotten better than the last! Mr. Schafer ups his game with each new book! I also have started rooting for Garrets arch enemy! How did that even happen! The characters have developed as well as the story. I’m invested in what happens to these kids and their world. I started book four as soon as I was done with this one!
I was quite surprised by how much I was rooting for a villain in this book. That's how you know when an author has done their job, by how much they evoke enough empathy in you to cheer the bad guys on. Onward to book 4!
"Like this flame, you are the light of this world. Whatever happens, don't forget your destiny. You are small, but like this little flame, you are powerful. "
The world is well into the days of the God Stones. Dragons are real and flying, burning all in their path as they search for Garret Turek..Chosen One.
Giant insects and wild animals are roaming Mexico terrorizing Breanne and Gabi as they, and other survivors, try to find safety.
Garrett is determined to find Breanne, find the way to the human god's planet and bring everyone still left alive to their new home. As Garrett struggles with being lied to his entire life, being The Light and last hope of this world, he must also look deep within and find his strength and purpose. Can he do that in time? Or is the world doomed to destruction and terror?
This is a such a great series and just gets better and better. I love the characters, the flow, the writing...just everything. This is the 3rd book and I'm as invested as I was when I started, if not more.
I love the friendships within the sages and the way the struggles they have bring them together and make them stronger. I'm also loving the budding romance with Garrett and Breanne. Love is a strong bond and I'm sure theirs will play a part later on. I can't wait for Book 4!!
Otto has created a world where myths come to life as if they were actual history taking over the present.
If you don't mind a trope of a villian that makes the mistake of thinking he's more powerful than he is, then you'll enjoy reading as our villian begins his decent into his eventual undoing. Or will he? This is only book 3 afterall, and he might break free from his bravado. Or maybe, he is as amazing as he thinks.
Our heroes are in a tough position with no Deus ex machina to save them. They instead use wit, knowledge, and everything else at their disposal to survive.
I struggle with the male banter (I'm female), and I don't understand how guys can be so cruel to one another and still be very close. I honestly have no idea how Pete can stand Lenny. But, by the end of this book, you know they are close.
All in all, I highly recommend this book to fantasy, D&D, and history fans.
This third book of the God Stones series jumps right back into the action from book two, The Keepers of the Light. Otto Schaffer really knows how to stir the feelings of his readers. When Apep took Breanne, I was worried about what would happen to her, but Breanne is a super-intelligent character. She is one of my favorites in this series. In fact, I love the different personalities in the group of sages who are part of Garret’s entourage. Each character has a different “superpower” that has been activated by the God Stones. Each power is unique, and they all seem essential to defeating Apep.
The plot thickens as more villains come into the story. Garrett and his friends have so many monsters to fight against. There are giants, dragons, and moving trees reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings (but the trees hate humans and are evil). The odds are stacked against the keepers of the light, and I’m curious how these heroes will navigate these challenges. Most of these villains are perfectly evil since I have yet to see any redeeming qualities or gray areas in their personalities.
Just like the first two books, there is so much action. Shaffer never writes a dull chapter, and each one leaves you wanting more, especially since he switches between character points of view and locations. This book is slightly different from the first two since there wasn’t archeology, but since all the mythical creatures have come to life, that aspect isn’t necessary, even though I did enjoy the digs and ancient caves. Also, there were so many unexpected deaths, which leaves me wondering who is next and keeps me on the edge of my seat! Just like with book two, as soon as I finished this book, I moved right on to book four. I am anticipating the next part of this great adventure, and the new conflicts that I’m sure will challenge the sages.
If you enjoy epic fantasy, great friendship, an action-packed plot, and a book/ series you can’t put down, please check this out! Schaffer is a great author, and this series would make a great movie or TV series.
Wow! I just finished book three and wow! I’m sooo looking forward to book four. I wonder how the person I love to hate is going to get out of his predicament. And how the sages are going to keep their promises. Highly recommend!
I cannot say enough about how much I have enjoyed this series so far. Anything you could think of that you want a tiny bit of love, lots of bad guys, the good guys and everything in between.
What an amazing adventure I have been through with the first three books. I am so excited to get to book 4. The dragons, the trees and more. I mean what a great time I had listening to this book. The narrator did amazing!! Off to book 4.
Holy cow!! This was PHENOMENAL!! This series just gets more and more exciting!!
This book has giants, dragons, sentient trees and even a Kraken!! Garrett and his friends really have their hands full trying to survive all the craziness!! It like an apocalypse!!
Again with the shocking reveals, constant fast-paced action and magic wreaking havoc everywhere!! Apep is freaking crazy!! By the time I’m done with the book I feel like I’ve been holding my breath throughout reading it!!
I have to say that the cover on this one is my favorite so far!! I’ve loved all the covers, but this one is fantastic!!
This third installment of The God Stones series was phenomenal! What an adventure!! There is so much going on in this book, but all perfectly timed and executed...not to mention, I have grown to CARE about the bad guy! How does the author do it? I can not recommend this series more and am diving into book four the second after I hit submit for this review. Amazing series! Amazing writing! Amazing story!
