So twice five miles of fertile ground with walls and towers were girdled round…
Jordan Sommers is a Demon Prince of the Sumerian Line, heir to untold wealth and power. Mortals and demons alike envy the life Jordan was born into, but all he ever wanted was to escape. He’s finally found a way out of his gilded cage; all he has to do is marry a stranger.
Sawyer Pathlighter has never set foot outside Halfway Bay, an isolated community that doesn’t appear on any maps. The priestesses who rule the Bay took her home, her best friend, and her father. Now they’re forcing her to marry an outsider she’s never met.
So begins the game. Jordan and Sawyer can use each other to achieve their own goals, but when their convenient partnership deepens into something more, each must decide what they’re willing to sacrifice...and how much they can afford to trust.
For this is Halfway Bay, a land of beauty that could turn the most cynical eye and secrets that could break the most innocent heart.
Jordan Sommers is a Demon Prince that just want to get away and make his own life. He finally finds a way out through which means he has to marry a complete stranger and live away from all that he knows.
Sawyer Pathlighter has lived in Halfway Bay her whole life. It's the only thing she knows and she desperately wants her home back that was taken away. What she has to do is simple...marry a stranger and take part in a sham marriage.
This was a great introduction to this series! This is the first book in the Brides of Halfway Bay. The storyline has so many twists and turns that I couldn't put the book down. I loved the Demon/Human trope and then found out more along the way. It felt like you were there and you were experiencing what happens with the characters. I loved the setup of the different characters and the explanations of the different languages.
Ultimately, I'm looking forward to the next book. There's so many questions but I did like the fact that there was no cliffhanger. There is enough to know that there will be another book and who the next Demon will be. The only thing missing for me was the lack of romance. It was there in a few scenes but would have loved more romantic scenes. Overall great book though! 🖤
I am completely surprised by this debut by Alex, he has woven a tale of mystery mixed with encounters with very old gods, hauntings, and more. I found it interesting that Halfway Bay kind of takes a step back in time compared to the “outside world” and how it gave off cult-like vibes. Jordan peaked my attention with his want to prove to his family that “their kind” didn’t have to be malicious in their ways, along with his kind nature and curiosity. Sawyer had me smiling, she may have never left Halfway Bay but this lady is perceptive, witty and more than she ever realized. Their story though, I found it to be more mystery/slightly suspenseful than romantic - it was more focused on the town trying to push them apart, the supernatural aspects of everything around them, and the history of it rather than their “forced marriage”. Alex didn’t shy away with descriptions and I found myself being able to picture Halfway Bay along with the characters without issues - BUT, I found the plot to be drawn out and “fluffed up” in some parts. This series has a ton of potential and definitely something to check out if you love a mystery with some light romance. It was really well written (hence the 3 stars), I just couldn’t get into it and what isn’t my cup of tea maybe someone else’s favorite.
Alex Saint was a name I hadn't heard a week ago. Today I'm ready to tell everyone who loves a good paranormal romance to give this book a read! There is a lot to take which really shouldn't be a surprise as it is a series and at first I was worried it might just be to many things and feel to busy but I just find myself wanting to know more. Jordan comes from a powerful family who it seems just can't get enough. His family has his life mapped out every detail for him but Jordan wants to forge his own way a better way, so his kind can change. He's hoping eventually his friends will join him if he can just make this attempt with Sawyer work. Where Sawyer comes from is isolated and drowning in tradition. Traditions her family members have started, broken, regjected and even died trying to change. But as Jordan and Sawyer will discover as the enter a blood right, there are more secret going on in Halfmoon Bay then anyone realizes. Together with Sawyer's friends they will try to uncover the truth and stop their common enemies. The imagery and detail are wonderful. The swedish folklore, and other cultural myths and legends brought to life are spectacular I absolutely can not wait to read the next books in the series.
The Bride from Freedom is a fantasy book . It's the first book to The Brides of Halfway Bay series. It's a marriage of convenience/arranged.
Jordan Sommers is trying to get away from his family in order to prove he can build his business without their money and influence. The only way he finds is to marry a stranger from Halfway Bay.
Sawyer Pathlighter has always lived in Halfway Bay, her land was taken away from her. The only way she can get it back is if she gets married.
When they first meet she's skeptical of him and thinks he's plotting against her to keep her land. There's secrets, twist and turns.
I liked the book. Didn't feel much like a fantasy book. I liked the build-up of their relationship.
I went in blind not knowing this was written in third person, which is not my preference. I was confused in several parts. Other than that the book was good. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.
I found the concept of this book to be fascinating with great world building! I loved the way the characters were written and the writing style itself. I just felt that I couldn’t get as into it as I would’ve liked. Although I loved the moments between Jordan and Sawyer, there just wasn’t enough for this book to be considered a romance, which is what I mainly read for. This would be a great read for someone who’s more into the action, suspense, and mystery, so I would definitely recommend this book if that applies to you!(:
This is the first book in The Brides of Halfway Bay series. It’s an interesting take on demons and arranged marriages.
Jordan is a demon prince looking to forge his own path, and hopefully one for his friends to follow. The only way to do that is through Halfway Bay with an arranged marriage.
Sawyer has lived in Halfway Bay her whole life. She desperately wants to get her family lands back and in order to do so, she has to agree to an arranged marriage.
This story is full of twist and turns. It was a little more focused on the mystery surrounding the Bay, and less on the romance between Jordan and Sawyer. Overall it was a good read.
I was not expecting this story when I started Jordan whi is a Demon prince has to marry a stranger Sawyer. This story has many twist and turns. The action and suspense in this book leaves you want to read it to find out more.
There is an orphan living in a town that's off the maps. There is a demon prince who wants to leave his life behind and start anew. There's an authoritarian government that wants to rule the world, and family secrets to uncover. It seems a lot for the first book, but since it is a series I have a lot of hopes for it.
The story moves quickly, and we get a to see it turn into a romance immediately. The first book focuses solely on Sawyer and Jordan, so the other characters seem undeveloped. There are many names that crop up multiple times in the book but very little about them is divulged.
Over all, it is a fun read, and I'll be waiting for the next books before I completely make up my mind.
This was an interesting experience. I haven't read anything from this author again and I think that this is a debut? If it is, it is definitely a nice one.
It is a paranormal story that has elements of romance. It has demons, Vampires, Werewolves...etc. Those who love a light version of Romance will like this. I'm into more steamy and dark stories, and this is why I give this 3 ⭐.
English review: Honestly, this book was a surprise for me, the description of the surroundings was very well written (the entire book was beautifully done), I was able to get fully immersed in the story and the place where everything was happening. I loved this new take on demons, I did find it a bit slow but I expected that since it’s the introductory book in a saga; however it was never a boring book. From the very beginning there’s action and interesting characters, I can’t wait to know more of this world.
I like that you can tell there is more books to come with how involved the other characters are. Sawyer and Jordan are the best they have an up and down relationship
