The Ranch: Interims

Rate this book
Post-Apocalyptic Fiction by Sean Liscom“He told me that Ruiz and Wilcox had a way into the vault that nobody knew about. He told me that they were already inside and that the only way to get you out was to blow the elevator shaft apart. Jason, he recognized MY voice. He didn’t confuse me with Isabella! It had to be him!”“What else?”“He knew the phones were going to fail. He told me the vault was flooding and I needed to mount a rescue. He knew EVERYTHING! It was like he was standing here, in the middle of all this!” her voice grew louder. At that point, Ruiz was pulled from the hole. Kari immediately ran to the man. She extended her hand and pulled him up. “Where is he?” she demanded.ExcerptNo sooner had my two Jeep convoy cleared the gate of the ranch when I received a radio call from Jill. She informed me that O.P. 3 had just spotted a Hummer driving down the road about five miles south of the ranch. It was headed south, away from Elko and the ranch at a high rate of speed. When we reached the main road, I cranked the wheel to the left and pushed the throttle to the floor. The Hummer from the EDF may have had quite a lead on us but I was sure we could catch them. Pushing the Jeep through 80 mph, I eased to the right side of the dirt road, so the following Jeep wasn’t getting dusted out. The driver, Ryan, understood what I was doing, and he closed the distance between us once he had a clear view.It didn’t take us long to get a visual on the fleeing Hummer. Their top speed was about 65. We were cruising at 90. When we were about a mile from them, I picked up the radio mic and repeatedly tried to raise them. Each attempt was met with silence.“Guess they ain’t in the mood for polite conversation,” I remarked to the Mustang squad leader. A guy about my age named Rick.“I guess not. How you wanna do this boss?”“Not sure yet. Makin this up as I go.”“Works for me,” he grinned. We were now roughly 100 yards behind them, and I could see a man taking up a position behind the turret mounted 50 caliber atop the Hummer. I jammed hard on the brakes as did the second Jeep. The man behind the 50 spun it in our direction and opened fire. Much to my dismay, the windshield didn’t shatter, and I didn’t hear any of the heavy rounds impacting the Jeep. As we continued to scuff off speed and put some distance between us, he continued to shoot over our heads. It was almost as if he were trying to miss us.“What the hell?” I muttered. I stabbed the throttle pedal and the Jeep instantly accelerated. When the gunner let his next volley fly, the rounds kicked up dirt just ahead of us. I let off the gas again.“Ya want me to lean out the window and see if I can pick him off?” Rick asked.“No, not yet anyway,” we continued to follow from about 250 yards as I tried to work through the problem in my head. That 50 could destroy both these Jeeps but he didn’t seem interested in doing that. The driver HAD to know he couldn’t outrun us, and we had twice the fuel range he had. What the hell was this guy playin at? It only took me a second or two to realize what was happening. Ambush. He was drawing us into an ambush.

Shazam!

I think this might have been my favorite of all the Legacy books so far. It was a GREAT read! This is book 4 of 7. It is not a standalone. This series should be read in order. I am REALLY glad the series is complete and I can just go on to book 5!

I love books that focus on community and the future. I really enjoy reading about families and how they come to be, then go on to do great things. I know bad people do bad things and I love it when the goodness wins.

I would absolutely recommend this book for anyone 16ish or older due to mature content.

Sean Liscom just keeps doing it, Book 4 of the The Ranch series is absolutely great. I could not put it down. Every time you think you have it figured out, he puts a twist or three into the story. If you want excitement please purchase The Ranch series by Sean Liscom, you will not be disappointed. You can follow Jason and Jill Sterling, his psycho father Jack and many other characters, you will be pleased there are a total of six books. I just started Book 5.

Come on man!

That can't be the end of the series. I want to see what happens to the younger members of the family now. Really a great series of books. Sometimes a little far fetched but always entertaining. The characters are well developed and the plots keep you interested right til the very end. Great job.

This one took me by surprise! It was a little shorter than the rest of Liscom's books but it works perfectly. A lot of the storylines from the first three are sealed up, some mysteries still remain, and we learned a little about the main character going into the next book. Perfect transitioning and foreshadowing!

The Ranch, Book4

The Ranch, Book 4, was, like it's predecessors, an exciting and excellent story. Having finished the series now, and coming back to place reviews, all of the stories to this time have been quite a read. Except for a couple of books with typos, one of the best end of time series out there.

Great story

My only complaint about this is the editing towards the end of the book, where they start messing up common use words. Things like your/you're and small mistakes like that really messed up the flow of the book for me. But again, it's a really good story and worth the read.

Outsmarted again.

Where did the download go? Are the caches gone? Where did Ruiz go? Who was doing all talking in other peoples voices? Just a few unanswered questions in this story. I hope they are answered in books to come. These were all very good stores and I hope they continue to be as good in the future. Keep the good stores coming!

Another Masterpiece!!!

Sean did it again. I’m disappointed…….that there isn’t more to read! I could not put this book down. I can not wait for book V and maybe stories about Tara hinted in the epilogue of book 4. This series has become my favorite…..EVER!

Not the last one.

Continues the story but doesn’t complete it. There’s enough tension to make you want to read the next one. I think I will. I still wonder what happened to Jack and what will happen to the ranch.

Keeps you guessing.

I just had to find out what happened next. The twists keep you wanting to turn pages. It is really interesting how the Sterling family and the Ranch keeps evolving. Can't wait to read the next chapter in this saga.

Well this was another great book and how his mind works is amazing. I won’t give anything away but let’s just say you won’t believe the ending of this one. On to the next.

Very good reading

When reading this series you have to assume secret ultra conspiracy theories are to be believed. Once you decide to accept or not those theories, the underlying plot of human failure and survivability is intriguing

Here comes Trouble.

What an adventure. The Sterling's know how to keep moving and keep your attention. Jason seems to have a knack for finding trouble.

A good series to read. Many twists and plots. The Stirling clan weaves through the challenges of the apocalypse which was caused by their father.

“Ever so slowly, they will continue their advance. Know this; the men in power are seeking the truths you already know. They seek them for vastly different reasons, though.”

It’s been nine months since the missiles were launched by Jack Sterling (at the end of book three).

President Jane Dixon’s plan to send out scouts, both east and west, troubles Jason Sterling.

Melissa’s quest for vengeance…it’s bittersweet to see that she and Kari are both in good places.

The twins, William and Olivia.

The Oracle.

The Hydra box.

The mysterious Vault in Wright, Wyoming…road trip!

A lot of heart in this book. It’s great to see Jason and Jill with their new (and growing) family. But also, the close friendships they have cultivated, that have turned familial.

Andre Richards.

Absorbing. The plot—and Jack Sterling’s (titular) legacy—continues to unfurl.

Jason is becoming a legend in his own right.

The compound. Enemies descending.

Subterfuge. Backup plans. Isabella truly shines in this installment. Excellent, brilliant woman—and sister.

Manfred Schmitt. Jack’s plans come to fruition.

Ruiz and Wilcox.

Madeline. A new alliance.

Awesome thank you to his readers. 👏🏻

Not as heavy on the battle and action sequences; a much more cerebral read this time around.

“It’s one thing to just survive the end of the world; it’s another entirely to thrive. The latter of the two is much more difficult than the prior.”
