A Wonderful Suspense Unique Adventure of Ember McNair-Jamison!!!
Suspenseful Paws is Book 16 in the Kitten Witch Cozy Mystery Series so you know it has to be GOOD.
The story continues from the last book "Menacing Paws" when Ember finally solved the puzzle box that B.L.C. Bubb asked her to do as the repayment from the favor that he helped get Ember's husband, Sheriff Cedric Johnson, memories back (an evil Glawkus demon stole Cedric memories). It turns out to be not just a puzzle box but it's a Cube of Truth that Bubb tricked her to do. After she solved the puzzle cube into perfect alignment, the cube brightened hotter than a thousand suns, Ember threw an arm over her face and when she pull her arm away she find that she is in Cauchemar General Hospitals and her talking cat familiar, Kali, is no longer the kitten, she has becomes an old cat; Kali tells her that the Glawkus attacked and robbed her of two decades worth of memories. Her head has a puncture mark made by a Glawkus' bone straw, she also learns that she is no longer a deputy but she is now a captain, she is the head and leader of Cauchemar's Witch and Supernatural Police, WASP. Bubb is an angel and he died saving her and Glawkus is dead and her memories died with it and there is no way for her to get her memories back. Is this a trick, an illusion or a dream or a nightmare?????
Panic, fear, frustration, awful feeling overwhelming Ember, she also find out that she has a 12 years old son, Cedric Jr. whom she never met, she is in the world she doesn't understand. Everything is familiar but different, her husband, her house, Kali who is more crankier now but still the same cranky, persnickety, snarky little cat. Ember will have to try to adjust and learn this new life, all the changes that happened in the past 20 years, she has to rebuild relationship with her son from zero.
While Sheriff Smothers is driving her back home from hospital, he get a call about dead body and even though everything in this life seemed unreal to Ember, murder investigation is something she is very good at so she jumps right into the case to uncover why anybody would kill Rickle Nickel, who used to own the Pickle cart.
This is a new fun exciting twist, unique plot and unbelievable adventure, I really enjoy the book and at the same time I feel sorry for Ember that she could not remember the joy of being pregnant, giving birth to her son, his first step, and all the time spent 12 years with him seeing him grow up.
It is fast paced full of adventures one right after another and keeps you guessing of what the next chapter will reveal. There are so much going on, it's a great page turning paranormal cozy mystery, good storyline, entertaining, fun, full of mystery, magic, suspense and humor.
This book is a must read for paranormal cozy mystery fans. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Witch Ember McNair-Jamison woke from a coma, missing 20 years of memories after the Glawkus attack with a bone straw the day before! Looking around her hospital room was uncomfortable because she felt magic everywhere and wands and staffs were in plain view, not hidden from the mortals as she knew they were supposed to be. Kali spoke up, but she was no longer a kitten, now a full-grown cat! She went to get her uniform from the closet and Kali had to explain she was now the Captain and led a WASP team (Witch and Supernatural Police). There was a bunch of history she missed over 20 years so she was justifiably confused. Nor did she believe any of the things Kali was telling her, especially when a 12-year-old boy burst in and wrapped his arms around her and Kali introduced her… to her son. When she could not remember him, he ran off and Kali followed to take care of him.
As Sheriff Smothers was driving Ember home, a call came over the radio about a dead body. To Ember’s relief, they both went to investigate Rickle’s death. In a cabinet, she found a mummified Faerie who had been used in a dark magic spell, even though he was human.
Ember is soon on the hunt for a killer that may have something to do with her missing memories. Is her condition permanent as they told her? Or can her memories be restored somehow? Fortunately her investigative skills are as sharp as ever as she tracks down the murderer.

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters in an entertaining and unique storyline. Amber McNair is a witch back in the beginning in book one she was the owner of a small pub that was in her family for generations. She has a knack for solving mysteries and murders. I’m not going to give any spoilers because this book goes from one extreme to the other and will always keep you guessing until the end. Extraordinarily entertaining and a fun read.
Now it’s Ember’s turn to have her memories sucked away. But, weird things keep coming through her subconscious and Kali is trying to get her to us dark magic. Loving this series. I just wish there wasn’t a cliffhanger at the end of each one. It’s killing me! I don’t have the patience to wait!

A pretty good addition to this series. While the memory-loss trope isn’t my preference, the enjoyable characters and this author’s particular writing style kept me turning the pages.
