It’s been a year since Aoi started working at Kura, and now spring break is full of a hot springs trip with Kiyotaka and Akihito, a book club party, and more! But at the same time, she is struggling to decide whether to tell Kiyotaka how she feels about him. One day, an editor shows up at Kura under the pretense of doing an interview for a magazine. Then, in the middle of the night, the master forger Ensho steals a Shino tea bowl from right under Kiyotaka’s nose. The next morning a written challenge from Ensho arrives—the mysteries continue in Volume 5 of Holmes in Kyoto!
Mai Mochizuki was born and raised in Hokkaido and now lives in Kyoto, and originally wrote Alice in Kyouraku Forest as a series of novels. She's written numerous other titles, including 4th Kyoto Book Award winner Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes which was turned into a manga and anime series.
Gaaaaaah!!! Oh my GOODNESS!!! What happens in this one! There was danger, romance and a Sherlock Holmes society! Wow, this one really kicked it up a notch!
4, but now the romance is no longer a slow burn will I enjoy the next one, stars?

There were syrupy moments, but the last part was really good... Yep, Ensho and Holmes have a really good chemistry... and when we talk about chemistry, some revelations are made at the end...
I would put it up as 3,6 kyoto kitties for good measure, realy the last part was a saviour... same goes for manga part 1 and part 2 (yes, split because of the way it is translated... not much interesting talk but for awareness... as I freaked out that I won't have manga to it... anime finished with the previous book, boooo)
This time the volume contains 4 events: a visit to an onsen, the Holmes Fan Club meeting, a soccer match and the stolen cup mentioned in the blurb. The overall theme seems to be hidden love revealed to the world. Like previous volumes it was an entertaining slice-of-life story with romance, and Kyoto (and Japan) sightseeing. Not as much art history this time. The fact there is progress in the lives of the characters (even if it took 5 volumes) is good. As for the Ensho plot, it is a bit of a damper on my enjoyment of the book. It is a trope I dislike in the first place, feels out of place for this type of story and in this case is especially ridiculous in its execution. Still, overall, a good read despite Ensho's plotting.
AHHHHHH, ¡POR FIN, TERMINÓ EL SUFRIMIENTO AMOROSO, SOLO HIZO FALTA UNA SITUACIÓN DE VIDA O MUERTE!
“Forgive me for making you go that far,” he continued. “I should’ve been the one to say it. I love you, Aoi.”
“No regrets, eh?” “I have plenty.” There were a lot of things he’d regret if he died now. But the biggest one was... “I will not die here, not while I haven’t told her what I need to,” he snapped. Ensho burst out laughing. “Oh, to be young again. I like how you are right now.” “Well, I hate it.” If he entered the wrong password, the computer would explode after one minute. If he ran immediately, his life would be spared but the tea bowl would be destroyed.”
“S-Sorry. I was laughing because of Aoi’s optimism.” “Optimism?” I stared blankly at Saori. “Confessing your feelings without any expectations, and if you get rejected, you’ll quit your job and redirect the power of a broken heart into your entrance exams... It’s like no matter what happens, you’ll still be moving forward. If it were me, I’d probably think my life was over after a broken heart. I can’t imagine redirecting that energy somewhere else. I think you’re optimistic, Aoi, and you have a firm footing.” “Yep,” Kaori agreed. “Aoi’s a forward thinker, and she’s responsible, like, in a calm way.”

Since she met Holmes and started working at Kura, Aoi's life has changed so dramatically. She's improved her studies, developed more practical skills, matured so much, and greatly broadened her experiences and understanding of the world. All this happens as she grows closer to Holmes.
They compliment each other well. Among other things, Holmes feels that he can be truly honest about himself with Aoi because she has a heart of gold, or at least copper. She helps him to calm down instead of becoming overwhelmed by negative emotions. Meanwhile, through Holmes, Aoi learns so much about life and the world. Holmes is so knowledgeable and guides her in experiencing so many new things in a positive and meaningful way.
Each book emphasizes new and exciting places and experiences. I'm impressed by the author's ability to create such diverse people, places, and situations for our protagonists. These are not just for the sake of variety, but rather help our characters to grow closer together, learn more about themselves and others, develop greater appreciate for their culture and history, and strengthen their abilities. Moreover, it makes all the stories of Aoi and Holmes' adventures very captivating to read.
Lastly, as a side-effect, this book does a good job of advertising Kyoto as a tourist destination.
I really enjoyed this series at the beginning because they had mystery and a lot to teach about Kyoto (history, places, others)....but by this 5th volume it has turned into a little of mystery and education and a LOT of stupidity romantic non-sense and repetitiveness. Dropping the series. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!
This book has an interesting mystery set at a Sherlock Holmes Association meeting, features the theft of an item from Kura, a sports outing and the relationship of Aoi and Kiyotaka moving forward. I really enjoy this series! Happy reading!
