Magic and mayhem, lots of mayhem! A real-life murder mystery party!
What a fun book, the giddy sort of fun, the oh my goodness that’s so ott kind of fun! Some moments leaned towards slapstick kind of fun. Violet is making a mess of things, and not just any mess, no, a witchy mess, botched spells and all!
My own personal preference would be that the mystery starts earlier in the book. It starts quite late and then it’s a mad, hectic, frantic dash towards the answers. But it was a fun read! Before the case starts there just a lot of witchy stuff. Fun witchy stuff! Very entertaining. A play on the game Clue aka Cluedo. Only, it isn’t a game anymore…
It has FUN written all over it. I really enjoyed it. I still didn’t always like Sheriff Jeremy, but what happens to him, or not, was quite… well, for lack of another word: funny! And the mystery, I’m glad to report: I was wrong! I thought I knew whodunit, but no!
"Your mother was right; you’re too smart for your own good. And too kindhearted, to be a witch."
I love Violet and her family, but not her neighbor or "her boyfriend the Sheriff". And this time Hex Hall is hosting a Murder/ Mystery dinner that turns into a real one...with Vi as the suspect! Can Violet find out the real killer? Will Connie ever get "the real Jeremy" back? And...can Violet stop imposing her poor taste on her ghostly client?
When will Violet realize how Sotheby cares? I kept think this throughout the story. I do hope the next book is a bit shorter on the vapidness of the characters and tighter in the page number because it feels like the author is sticking way too much in here. Recommended 4/5
[Disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily read and reviewed it]
They do so many stupid things, I honestly couldn't stand to finish it. So much promise in the story and I absolutely hate not to find out an ending, but it was hurting my brain and my gut reading the stupid actions and reactions of the main character. I almost didn't finish the first book but plowed on through to find out how it ended and there were a lot of good plot points, but I don't understand how she could just let go/not get upset/set better boundaries with her family.. she comes across dumb AF and it keeps getting worse.. so I noped out.
I tried to read, but it astounded me that the characters were so completely brain dead. How could any 33 year old act so flighty? She was worse than a flighty 13 year old, and the rest of the characters were just as bad. Not to mention the story itself has red herrings constantly being inserted. At the end she suddenly solves all the mysteries from information not previously presented. The plot was not great, but has possibilities if fleshed out (substantially). Reads like a 10 year old wrote it.
Funny and fast paced who-dunit. Sadly, the lead character didn't shine as brightly this go round. I did not like Violet's behavior and motivations in her personal life, but the mystery was fun.
If you enjoy zany but brilliant crime solvers such as Nick and Nora Charles, and liked the "And Then There Were None" 1945 film adaptation, then reading this story will probably be enjoyable to you. Oh, and fans of the board game "Clue" will probably like it as well.
Violet and her aunts are back in this spectacular second book, along with all the other characters we came to love in the first. When a countess wants to hold a party at the Aunts B&B, she requests that Jeremy specifically attends, and who better to ask him then Violet, or at least until Jeremy has no idea who she is or any recollection of ever meeting her. Join Violet, Jeremy, Sotherby, and the aunts on this thrilling adventure as they all attend a whodunit dinner party.
LeGot to LeLove LeReggie!! LeGasp and LeGrab more LeChoolate! everyone needs a fun crazy aunt. mine was aunt marge and viv has crazy aunt connie. what a pair they are! what had me laughing out loud was the 'sane' family members decide a memory poultice pie in the sheriffs face was a sane idea. definitely a page turner and a ton of laughs, mixed with danger and an interesting game of clue. a must read!
I have to say this author's storyline is so ridiculous, I'm surprised I tortured myself getting through it. Please, Miss Rivers, I hope you have a day job! The "plot" is all over the place. I've read "witch cozies" before, and they were fun, had some semblance of a plot, and were easy to follow, enjoyable, but this... About the only good thing was the editing.
Ruby Rivers can spin a story a thousand ways. This series is such fun I have trouble putting it down. Loved the plot, a fake murder mystery that turns deadly. The characters are great too. Aunts Kit, Connie and Kat and cousin Viv are hilarious and can turn any simple task into a fiasco. Highly recommend to anyone who like to laugh and enjoy a good story.
Ooops. What a comedy of errors where poor Jeremy is concerned. Auntie Connie is a hot mess but quite the hoot! I hope that Violet doesn’t have to start over with dating Jeremy all the time…that would be annoying for her. I also have some suspicions about Sotherby and his feelings for Violet. I am loving this series and it’s humor.
Big build up & little overture. The action gets going with around 40 minutes reading time left of the book. It was all basic a long introduction. It needs to start earlier. The Jeremy boyfriend thing was a little bit boring too. I will try the next book in the series of Hex Falls. Hope the action starts sooner
The aunts and cousin Viv are hosting a murder mystery party complete with a seance for the top YouTube fashionista, and as usual if it can go wrong it does.
The next visit to Hex Falls has a different flavor this time. It involves a party at the new B&B with instagram stars, and murder of course. Add to this the fact that Violet's new beau, Jeremy, doesn't remember her thanks to a spell by one of the aunts. This story is also a fast read and the characters and their challenges make it a very interesting story all the way to the end.
Just like the title says, a cute cheesy paranormal rom com mystery. It was decently written and the characters were interesting but it wasn't my cup of tea.
I enjoyed Bedknobs and Broomhilda Sticks. I like the characters. The mystery has so many twists and turns to keep you guessing. It has many entertaining scenes.
