Beautifully written! The author has succeeded in relaying technical theatre information without being too technical and putting the reader to sleep. I read three sentences and instantly knew this book was for me and the way I teach. When I think back on the insufferable intro to tech theatre books I had to read, I feel cheated I didn't have this one as a student. Best Theatre Reference Book I've read, and one of the most visually attractive. Easy to understand, great illustrations on how-to, and more. Wish they had this book when I was back in college!

Not your typical textbook. Thank God!! I got this book to learn more about technical theater in order to write grants for various theatrical equipment and projects at my job. I can't begin to even tell you how quickly I was able to learn about lighting and sound and put together comprehensive proposals that made me look like a pro. Plus, it's written in an easy to understand conversational style that makes you feel like the teacher is standing right next to you. I can't imagine anyone working in the theatre could find a better reference book.

There's some brilliant information in here - shame it's obscured by an author who has no idea how to address an audience if they are anything other than 14. Good on facts but one of the most irritating reads due to being treated like an infant.
How many teenagers interested in theatre require such specialised knowledge is beyond me. Carver doesn't know her audience at all.
