A rampaging jinn, a griffin with a terrible secret, and a witch with a talent for magical disasters…
For centuries, magic in the Eternal City has been limited to folk magic known as the Benedicaria. Witchcraft has been banned, and violating the rule will get a witch expelled from the ruling class. When purple flames being sprouting up all over Rome, the magical families turn to an outside consultant to handle the problem.
Blacklisted Archaeologist Dr. Arienne Cerasola is officially the first name in magical disasters, but this is the first time she’s not responsible for causing one. Ari’s been hired to put an end to the antics of the jinn before the human world gets curious. It's also her job to find the cause of the magical blackouts that are leaving the city vulnerable.
Having magic go on the fritz isn’t good when the Chanson du Bastille is trying to take over the country’s magical practice. In order to maintain the balance of power, Ari will have to confront magical creatures, find ancient relics, and figure out a magical mystery of epic proportions. There's a reason magical disasters are her specialty, but sometimes the true test of power is knowing when to walk away.
I'm an indie with a passion for writing fantasy that takes my readers on a fun journey where they can meet interesting characters and learn a little about legends and myths. I've been writing for years now, but only jumped into the world of self-publishing when I knew I had created a world that would be light, entertaining and fun. There's enough stress and strife in this world - I want to take my readers on a journey that will always end someplace good. I write fun fiction with smart dialogue about interesting characters.
R. Leonia Shea has written a terrific tale in Resistant Magic (Relic Hunter Book 5). Her characters continue to develop and mature and her plot is clever and always surprising. Excitement, magic, and romance are all done with great humor. I especially liked her end note explaining the research she did to make the plot details work logically. Well done Leonia! Can’t wait for the next book.
This was a lot of fun and a little convoluted series. Loved that the heroine doesn’t take herself too seriously. Still a little bit in love with Coyote!
