If the Yosemite backpacking trip doesn’t kill them . . . someone they trust just might.
Reuniting members of their college hiking club, Leave No Trace, in Yosemite National Park to raise money for a wildlife charity seems like a terrific idea to Raine Endicott. She needs time away from her dead-end job in San Francisco to reassess her future, escape from the city, and enjoy nature’s splendor. Connecting with old friends is a bonus . . . especially Levi Hill, the man she turned down all those years ago. A decision she lived to regret.
For Levi, seeing Raine again is like flipping a switch. His crush on the woman who got away quickly intensifies into something far more meaningful. But it isn’t easy to focus on romance and the challenges of a budding relationship when one of their own is murdered—and the betrayer is hiding among them in plain sight. Leaving the park only adds a new level of terror as the danger escalates. Because Raine poses a threat that must be eliminated . . . even if that means killing again.
Write what you know. I've taken this advice to heart, creating characters from small towns and plots that unfold in the great outdoors. A recent empty nester, I grew up in a tiny Northern California town and currently live in beautiful Lake Tahoe with my husband. When I'm not busy writing, I hike or snowshoe in the woods around my home. Discover the beauty of nature woven into my fast-paced romantic suspense novels.
Ms. Gallant’s latest romantic suspense is entertaining on several levels. The setting is an adventure. I’ve been to Yosemite years ago, and reading this book was like a return trip. Her cast of characters (always my favorite part of any book) are varied and well defined. Who’s the villain? I couldn’t guess and that made it a page turner. You’ll enjoy this thriller for sure.
This fast-paced romantic suspense has it all--gorgeous setting, unexpected plot twists, and appealing, realistic characters. I loved the descriptions of Yosemite National Park. I haven't been there (yet), but I could practically smell the pines and see the craggy granite peaks. Raine is independent and ambitious without being a cliched "feisty" heroine, and the fact that Levi still has a little growing up to do makes him all the more relatable. If you're a fan of romantic suspense, this is one you won't want to miss!
1.5⭐ ⛰️🏞️It's like they're talking business and not about a relationship. Even when they started the relationship I didn't get their connection. In pure book words there's no spark. And it's not because they're going through stuff. The one thing you shouldn't force in a relationship are kids. I felt like it'll be like that for Levi. He didn't voluntarily choose having kids someday. No matter what he says that Dalton's decision was the reason and blah blah .... We saw how he dislikes kids in general. And it's not fair to ask raine to not have kids for his sake. Which is what she did to patch up the relationship. And raine needs a balanced professional life. It just felt like a domestic drama. All in all I don't see this relationship working out. I signed up for a romantic suspense. The suspense part is pretty absent at this point. ⛰️🏞️They literally talked about the Camaro Levi was looking for in front of them. And they didn't pick up. ⛰️🏞️You know it's a bad book when you near the end and instead of being on the edge of your seat you just want to get over with it.
