Grad student Jimmy has settled into life as a sorcerer with succubus Katarina, girlfriend Hayley, and familiar Charlotte. But much about his background and relationship to the infernal bureaucracy remains a mystery he struggles to unravel.
Hired to recover a powerful grimoire lost by Hell decades ago, Jimmy and his harem come into contact with a mysterious group known as the Vermillion Cabal. But the threat the group poses is not what it seems, and the job soon leads to a shocking series of discoveries about Jimmy’s past.
With his life hanging in the balance, Jimmy must decide which path he will walk, and where his allegiances truly lie – assuming those decisions have not already been made for him.
The Vermillion Cabal is second novel in the Demon Hunter series and contains explicit adult scenes and themes of black magic and demonology.
Michael Dalton is a professional journalist and editor.
Michael wrote his first piece of fiction in third grade, for which he was immediately accused of plagiarism by his teacher. Since then, he has been writing more or less steadily, interrupted only by occasional demands of work and family.

This is a good series. The only thing that is off is that I don't know who the good guys and who the bad guys are. The MC is pretty nonchalant about souls being tortured in hell and him working for the people that do that sort of thing. So far he hasn't done any of that but it is still a little weird. I like the group. I like the erotic scenes and I like the explanation about his background.
Book 2 of the Demon Hunter series did NOT disappoint. More magical, intrigue, and girls in this MC’s Coven of supportive women. I’m really looking forward to the next book!
Really loving this series. The story is great, the characters are really good, the universe of magic and supernatural beings also works very well.
Five stars doesn't mean it's perfect; to me it just means I can't wait to read more, and this definitely is at that level. The story driven by the machinations of jealous demons and acquisitive sorcerers is so much more than a setup of quests for a hero.
The imperfections: the idea that great supernatural powers held by hundreds of people or more can be hidden is never believable. That just isn't how power works. Also not quite believable are the sex scenes. They're an important part of the whole package, but I find them just too far from reality.
Neither of those flaws are unique to this author or this series, of course.
This is a great continuation of the series. You get a LOT of plot twists and revelations. And, yeah, as is frequently the case in this kind of series, we are discovering that the main character has a backstory that explains his capabilities.
The harem is growing slowly and thoughtfully.
The worldbuilding is excellent. I really look forward to the next book.
One of the themes in this series which I really enjoy is that no side is being cast (so far) as "good" or "evil". If an entity come after Jimmy or one of his friends or harem-mates, Jimmy works to counter the problem. And the resolution may be "talk with them and wind up working for them" or it might be "have an explosive fight". But it is not because of a good/evil dynamic.
Great read. The plot moves at a good pace, and the continued character development fills in great. The only problem I found e was with the opening of the Chateau d'Yquem 2001; first, that wine was one of the best in the last 50 to 100 years and at 20 years old it would have been too young to drink. Second, if Derek was a wine collector, he would have opened a1989 instead, which is more mature, has the color of honey, and when drank makes you feel like you're in heaven! I'm also waiting for Jimmy to fix that whole in Katarina.
I love the twists and turns that keep you wondering what will happen next. Will their enemies come out on top? Or will they be able to pull a surprise move in the end?
I wasn't kind of back and forth on whether to give it 3 or 4 stars. Maybe 3.5? I like how some questions are answered, more are created. It makes a feeling of progression and is good. The MC still irritates me some. Maybe it's cause he's still such a boy in some things (the dream smut? Laughable). But I suppose that might itch a fetish for someone so... The smut in general is thing as predictable as other series. I'll. Never give a book 5 stars though when someone says butt as often as he does. Mix it up, use s synonym, /something/. I guess every writer has a weak spot, the lack of certain fetishes and inability to use a word besides butt I suppose are not the end of the world. The plot is still interesting. Honestly the Chemistry involved probably earned it the extra star. I almost called shenanigans at the use of Fortran but I recall that is still used for some things where they don't want to recode everything so, Author did his research. I'll keep reading, I'm curious how the story will go. The smut? If you have good taste you probably will get bored with it, read it for the story.
This story is getting more and more interesting and darker as well. It reads a little bit like a spy thriller who done it. And I also like the way the characters interact with each other it seems pretty realistic. Also his magic system in the story is interesting. For me the story is becoming more complicated and also at the same time very entertaining. I for one can't wait for the third book to come out in the series the way this one leaves off is more mystery and also uh oh kind of feeling, I can't wait.
Good second book in the series. The MC's knowledge in his new profession is progressing nicely as is his collection of ladies. The plotline is moving forward and new discoveries in additions are being made along the way. Some surprises and some not so much. There was enough for shadowing in this book and the last to give enough hints so that there weren't any major surprises. Still enjoyable read so far.I'm looking forward to the next book.
This is one of the best examples of a great balance between smutt and decent suspense A great job of setting up a cliffhanger for the next book. Since there are so many examples of this genre around these days It's a real compliment when I say this is one of the best I've seen
Another good volume with some good writing and creative world-building (especially the magic/chemistry system). I usually don't read sex scenes anymore - especially in multi-volumes series - and just skip ahead but here once or twice I kept reading long enough that I had to remind myself that I could just skip ahead.
A great easy read that expands on and begins to reveal more of the mystery while continuing to show and interesting take on magic. Full of great sex and better relationship building, this harem novel is a must read. Book 3 is already pre-ordered.
Best book series by author by far. It is not grimdark. There is alot of... movement or action, not just monologue or descriptions. MC adds another harem member. Mysteries unraveled, but new ones added. Also, MC grew in power.
Read this in a day…not a let down at all it’s as good as the first. As much as i worried about it being rushed i was wrong. What a good sequel!!!! Buy it read it and then wait for the next one!!
This series is just so good. I immediately get sucked in and don’t want to leave once I start reading. I kind of wish I didn’t learn about this series till later so I could bing all the books there will be in this series in just one go. So good, I highly recommend!
The origin of the MC is unique and gives an explanation of why he has the powers he does. Also he has to romace his partners rather than them just fallong for him. A noce departure from the usual.
This second book definitely makes things in Jimmy’s life a lot more complicated. The more he figures out the more he seems to wish he remained oblivious to. An interesting read
Ok the first book was good and this one is better. The plot gets deeper and the characters more complex. Secrets explained and more mysteries uncovered! Bring on Book3!
This book, the second of three was quiet entertaining. I do like Harmon books by to a point. There has to been a real story line. Other harom books just give way to much sex. Sometimes is seems like I'm reading a letters from penthouse. This story is solid. 📚📚
I’m so happy book 3 is already out because I just devoured this one and I need more, the story flows easily and the characters are interesting and you get to care for them, very entertaining
