The Diablero, taloned hands, fangs, 8 ft. tall, mist-filled, and hell-bent on killing everything!
Gideon Thorn had been following the newspaper accounts of a few unusual killings of livestock, well more like massacres, in a small town called Hades, AZ. He felt that he had recovered enough from the last unnatural encounter that he and Dinah Pilcher, his newspaper friend, had gone through. Thinking back, he had known that Obi, his estate manager could take better care of her, plus he would oversee her recovery process, he had sent her east to the Thorn estate. He decided that he would go ahead and check out the situation in Hades before answering this last letter from Dinah, so he prepared to leave right away. There just seems to be something off in the killings and there might be something that he could do to stop it. Well, at least it was worth checking it out.
Arriving in Hades, Thorn knew that he needed more information, what better place to get it than the newspaper office. After reading the current edition he determined that things had escalated with this latest occurrence, from animals being torn apart to now a local sheep herder’s vicious murder. When he finished his visit with the editor it was late afternoon, thinking maybe a couple of drinks would sit just right he headed for the closest saloon before bedding down. Then he would get an early start in the morning. He had not been there long when he noticed a tired-looking man amble in, wearing a badge that said “Town Marshall,” now that didn’t take long! Seems he keeps a keen eye on newcomers and after checking with the hotel clerk figured to visit with him. Odd, he certainly knew a good deal about his background. He was also quite surprised, normally the local law doesn’t want him to interfere with their problems, but Marshall Ruggles is the opposite. He stated that he surely could use help and that is just what he was going to do, Help him out if he could.
Join Thorn and Marshall Ruggles, plus an old Yaqui Shaman in the battle of their lives against the Diablero, a demon summoned from beyond the other side…
Skinwalker: A Gideon Thorn Western Series includes – Skinwalker #1, Leviathan Rising #2, Ghost Town #3, Mountain Devils #4, Soul Slayers #5, Hallowed Ground #6, Night Flyers #7, Empty Graves #8, Rip Tide #9, and Warpath #10.
What did I like? Have to say that I have read every one of the books in this series and this one was very unique. Maybe because it involved the Yaqui Indian Shamans. Michael knows all the right buttons to push when he creates these storylines, all done with a touch of the unreal, and beyond. Or is it? I remember my grandfather telling me stories about the things that shamans can do, and what would happen if they dealt in black magic. Do these things happen, who knows? Do they exist, who knows? In this story, Thorn and Marshall Ruggles certainly do believe what they see before their eyes and the destruction that the Diablero handed out.
What will you like? Certainly, a well-written storyline that will reach out and grab you on page one, and not let go till the last page turns. The characters are truly amazing, from the Diablero to the Shaman and all of the residents of Hades. Michael gives us the picture in our minds with exquisite descriptions and details. You will hear the scream of the animals and the dying breath of each victim. See the roar of the fire as it burns through the buildings, and the ending will, well you will just have to read it for yourself, but it is amazing! Michael Newton has given us another adventure in book ten of The Gideon Thorn series, “Warpath” that will be available on June 30, 2021.
