Hell, yea! My heart is still beating for this dorky rivalry!! I think I'm twice more in love with this one now! Not sure if this is because of my lack of yaoi feeds for months now—or the fact that it's the right time to absorb this world once again. Nevertheless, Machi Suehiro, you're a genius, sensei!! I was literally swept off my feet and crying because of this beautiful art work!!
First Review • June 11, 2023 Another enemies to lovers!! I really love me some rivals with the other one harboring feelings secretly. I'm dying out here, I swear. And the art style is so beautiful, I've been screaming my heart out!! Machi Suehiro's office yaoi is always good for the soul.
AAAAAAAA THAT RIGHT THERE THAT'S MY SHIT THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT
¿Dibujo? Hermoso. ¿Historia? Espectacular. ¿Romance? Chef's kiss.
really sweet but i needed more angst. also, i feel like a lot of the scenes were repetitive, especially when both characters would throw out that they wanted their relationship to be more than a competition, just to turn around and say sike. like y’all let’s be grown adults for one sec 🫤. besides that, the art was nice and i really did like them together.
The banter between the leads is ridiculous in the best way, super playful and chaotic in that “how are these two functioning adults?” kind of vibe. And also Zen was really adorable…Like genuinely such a little gremlin, I love him so much it’s stupid!!
The plot mostly revolves around their constant one-upping each other, so if you’re not into competitive dumbasses in love, it might wear thin for you. But honestly, for a manga this short, I thought the pacing and character depth made sense. It doesn’t dig super deep, but it didn’t need to.
But let’s talk about the important part!! the romance is SO cute and the spicy scenes were stunning!!! Soft, flushed faces everywhere, so many kisses (bless) and a real sense that these two know exactly how to push each other’s buttons,…in every way. Honestly, this was just fun and cozy and deliciously blushy!!
This has the perfect balance of everything I love in a romance: tension, humor, and steaminess. And even with all the (endearing) ridiculousness, the connection between these two was still gentle, filled with longing, and strengthened by the kind of total acceptance that only love can bring.
A steamy rivals-to-lovers rom-com manga Vol•1 that I enjoyed so f'ing much! This author's amazing 😍 with lovely art style.
Zen's grumpy perfectionist. Ryo's a sunshine friendly. High school rivals (with frenemies vibes!) who are reunited at workplace. They're hard-working, VERY competitive & sore losers (*cough* Zen)! Loved the lil flashbacks.
Their latest bet? is of LOVE 😳. It's silly, ridiculous but the execution's *chef's kiss*. I laughed at their antics! There's spice (consensual & with prep 🙌) in almost each chapter 🥵. Yay to 1st times— I'm glad R's experienced 😁 (& prefers men, I don't see much of it in mangas).
There's little angst 🥺, due to hopeless romantic's unrequited love but soon it becomes requited 😍. So cute!
Comic rating:
1) The Characters: 5/5 2) Art: 4.5/5 (not colored) 3) Story feels: 😳😝😘🥵😶🙈🤭😉🥰🥺🥵😏☺️😁 4) Sexy scenes: Multiple! 5) Cute/Fun: 4.5/5
i thought this was really good, but soooo short. enemies to lovers so you know i ate it up. so obsessed i read it during work but it didn’t take long because, again, it’s SOOO short. GIVE ME MORE. there is a sequel series tho so when i get my hands on that, oooo im in trouble
Genuinely good Rivals to Lovers plot; hilarious at times, steamy at others. I loved it. I almost don’t want to read the second volume because it’s perfect where it is.
Ahhhh I totally loved this! I read a lot of manga as a teenager and then just stopped; I haven’t read a manga book in years. This one was recommended by a friend and I thought it sounded fun and ohhh my, I am glad I gave it a chance! This has definitely inspired me to pick up more manga again in the future!
Ryo and Zen are high-school rivals turned workplace rivals. Everything they do is a competition… including challenging each other to see who can make the other fall in love with them first! Terrible flirting, disastrous dates and some very inappropriate workplace conversations galore!
I absolutely love an idiots to lovers trope and oh boy, these two were absolute morons (for each other 🥹💕). Their rivalry is just hilarious and the sweet, tender parts were adorable. And the spice?! 🥵 Let me just say, I’m glad I wasn’t reading this in public 🫠😏
Read Fake Fact Lips for: ✨ BL manga ✨ Rivals to lovers ✨ Workplace romance ✨ Idiots to lovers ✨ Terrible flirting ✨ Only dating for the competition… ✨ Or are they? ✨ Spiiiicy (be careful reading in public!) ✨ Adorable, heartfelt moments
1 Happy Kuso Life 1 , però malament ^^' Relació gens honesta i massa superficial pel meu gust...
This is so ridiculous and they're both so stupid, but I like the romance. They argue a lot, but it doesn't feel malicious and more playful. Also Machi Suehiro's art style!! I love it. I enjoyed it more this time so I'm bumping up my rating a little. I'm looking forward to the sequel. I want to see some lovey dovey romance!
Idk it was maybe a bit cliched but oh I ate it all up 😉 I mean I’ve read this kind of story thousands of times before but it just was perfect to wind-down to a Wednesday evening 🧡✌️all the feels haha 😜 + quite some steamy scenes as well but like not over the top or anything it was just a good combo of both actually!
There’s a lot that I could say about this book. First off, it was beautiful and I loved it.
Zen and Ryo were both very intricate characters. I think that it’s impressive how well written they were considering this is one singular book.
I was excited to start off with Zen’s point of view. He had a relatable and understandable approach to the rivalry between him and Ryo. His inferiority complex fueling his desire to stay a worthy rival to Ryo was so sad. Zen must’ve had a lot difficulty pushing through and chasing first place in his siblings shadow. I was really surprised when Zen’s story took the slow burn route and we got to see him go through the motions of falling for Ryo in real time. It was so rewarding to finally have him confess.
This might make me sound overly cocky but I did have an inkling that Ryo had already fallen for Zen before it was revealed. Especially when I read the scene from Zen’s perspective of them meeting for the first time and so on. I felt so much for Ryo throughout this book and his character is really so unique to me for some reason. I think that Ryo using this competition as another means to stay by Zen’s side was natural for his character. Every single one of his actions made perfect sense to me. And his confession scene was so heartwarming.
I love this couple. I’m so glad I picked up this book. I’m definitely going to be buying the sequel!
