The orcs of Kinthur have been conspiring to circumvent the long-standing Gods’ Covenant. They plot to bring their evil god, Old One-Eye, back to rule Kinthur and dominate or destroy the other races. Ellwyn, a young elven ranger, and her companions stumble upon an ancient prophesy that foretells this event. With only the help of her companions, she must unravel the mystery before it’s too late. They are set on a course that will lead to high magic, monsters, treasures and possible death. Can they stop the orcs in time and at what terrible cost?
This beginning of a new trilogy marks the first in a collaborative writing effort between the creator of Kinthur, Trevor Jones, and April Nia Raine. Set in a time, thousands of years after the original novels, the blood feud between elves and orcs still rages on, but for how long?
Follow the elven ranger Ellwyn from her traumatic origins to her rise as a warrior unlike any other.
April Nia Raine discovered her love of writing in high school, earning early recognition in poetry and short story contests and publishing work in Ranger Rick and Highlights magazines. She studied with the Institute of Children's Literature before life’s journey led her through college, career, and raising a family.
Years later, a renewed spark was lit when her husband introduced her to Dungeons & Dragons and the vivid world of Kinthur. Now, she writes epic fantasy, weaving rich tales filled with adventure, magic, and unforgettable characters.
She lives in Costa Rica with her husband and their two dogs, where the beauty of nature and the thrill of storytelling continue to inspire her every day.
Jones (creator of the Kinthur setting) is adept at allowing his players to contribute to filling in the spaces between his tentpole legends.
In her debut, Raine captures the wonder and call to greatness of the character lens. Much as the Netflix MCU series' capture something compelling, and perhaps a little more relatable, while the film universe is larger-than-life thrilling, so too does Blood of Orcs resonate on a "street level hero" vibe. The first person perspective definitely puts frame around that lens.
I can't wait to see more of the Knights' adventures!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Blood of Orcs is a fast paced and enjoyable book that introduces readers to a new set of characters in the world of Kinthur. While it does lack in deep character development at times, it's an engaging story and I hope to find out more about the main characters in future books.
Well, I helped write it, so of course, I'm gonna say it's good.
What I liked about this project more than others was having a female perspective and point of view. It was a new experience seeing things through April's eyes as she wrote the main character. This was also the first time I wrote characters that had suffered trauma. Each dealt with it in entirely different ways. Writing drama alongside comedy, action, and romance proves to be the biggest challenge, but then, why else write a book?
I hope you enjoy this book as much as we enjoyed writing it.
