He conquered her, but he is the one enthralled.

Ketahn hadn’t wanted a mate. Fate gave him Ivy Foster. Now, he wants nothing more than to enjoy his little human.

But fate is not content to make things so simple.

With an enraged queen searching for him, Ketahn knows the Tangle is not safe for his mate. They need to leave. Yet Ivy will not forsake her people, and he cannot condemn her compassion. When they wake the other humans from their death sleeps, Ketahn now has more mouths to feed, and the strands of his web are in danger of snapping.

To keep Ivy and her people safe, he must placate the queen that hunts him. He must venture into Zurvashi’s domain and face her wrath—and her desire.

The strength of his heartsthread, his bond with Ivy, will be tested.

Ketahn refuses to let that thread break. Even if he must sever all the rest.

Honestly, despite the whole spider aspect, this is one of the best developed and written alien romance stories I've ever read because of the CHARACTER DEPTH and special attention to all the little personality nuances and new-culture meetings.

Excellent world building

Crazy, hot intimacy
That ending still broke my heart…

I'm begging the Eight to take pity on my poor heart. I call on the Protector, the Hunter, the Broodmother, the Rootsinger, the Delver, the Flamebearer, the Weaver, and the Shaper for mercy.

I almost didn't survive the reading of this one. This cliffhanger is BRUTAL and DESTROYED me. I knew it was going to happen, but there is always that little blossom of hope..that was maliciously stomped to pieces.

May we all remember these wise words.

“I guess deep down, we’re all the same. Our souls see what our eyes can’t, and they connect no matter what’s on the outside. Our bodies...they’re just shells.”

Our souls see what our eyes can’t. Amen.

I'm so love-deprived that I have feelings for a literal spider 😶.

No, but when he shoots spider webs out of his ass and makes dresses for you (with said ass spider webs) 😩😩😩 💍.

I pretty much understood none of what was going on- but it was actually really interesting.

AND PLS, I AM NOT ACCEPTING THAT ENDING- someone please explain to me how I'm meant to wait for the next book AFTER THAT CLIFFHANGER 🥲🤜🕷️.

**3.5/5 stars**

I enjoyed this book but I'm going to be honest, I had some issues with it. Not that it was bad or anything...

We pickup right after the cliffhanger from Ensnared, the last scene is repeated and then continued. Without spoiling too much about the story, Ketahn and Ivy decide to wake up the human survivors of the crash that are still alive but asleep in their cryochambers. We are then introduced to a bunch of new characters, and Ivy has the difficult task of telling them that the Somnium didn't reach its destination and that they have crashed on an unknown planet, home of humanoid spiderlike people. As for Ketahn, he has to confront the Queen of vrix who still wants him as her mate, and tricks her to buy himself more time. The plan: teach the humans how to survive in the wild within eight days, and run far away from Takarahl, where the Queen will never find them again.

“Our souls see what our eyes can’t, and they connect no matter what’s on the outside. Our bodies…they’re just shells.”-Ella

So some of the issues that I had was the repetitiveness of the interactions between Ketahn and Queen Zurvashi. I noticed that some of the scenes were very similar to one another, they were all unpleasant because the Queen almost assaults Ketahn every time. Although he resisted his natural instincts and forced himself to ignore Zurvashi's pheromones, I just didn't like the number of times he had to interact with her. The reasons for him to go back to Takarahl to try to buy more time was a bit weak to me.

“Our heartsthreads, our spirits, are all that matter, and they are bound. Fate brought me to you, my heartsthread, and even if it tried to turn me away, I would defy it. Nothing will come between us. So long as the sun, moons, and stars make their treks across the sky, you will be mine, Ivy.” -Ketahn

The other thing that bothered me was how many aspects of the story were predictable. I like the general idea of Fated Mates. It's a concept that is very improbable, that there is no way for two characters so different to be wired and bound together by destiny when so many factors have to be met for them to even meet in the first place. But that's the beauty of it! Fate is what brings these two people together, through time and events. Now even though I love this sort of things, the idea of it, it's just strange to me how everything in this story was convenient. Let me paint you the picture:

Out of eight human survivors, there are five women who survived the crash (including Ivy but who is mated with Ketahn), one is sick and dying, so that leaves three women and three men. Two of the men are gay and the last guy is into our girl Ivy (you know, for the love triangle angst sort of thing even though she isn't interested in him). That leaves three women. Well guess what, Ketahn just happens to have three male spiderlike friends who conveniently and respectively feel attracted to one of the women each, and those women just happen to feel the same way for their respective spider-man. I mean...come on. I'll be honest, they were cute! I'm actually happy they'll be getting their own standalone book soon but I don't know... It just felt too simple, too perfect, too convenient. I just wish the authors had made it all a bit less obvious.

Many things that happened overall were very predictable and this is why I rated this book much lower than the first one. From the awakening of the humans to pairing of the characters and the cliffhanger ending, I was never surprised by anything. It felt like more things happened than in Ensnared, but also that nothing major really happened until the very end. Scenes weren't necessarily dragging but were very similar to one another, the same meaning and conclusions at the end of every discussion. I felt more involved in Ensnared primarily because the connection and chemistry between Ivy and Ketahn was part of the build-up and was done in a smart way. In Enthralled, and especially for the side characters, I just didn't sense much tension or stress or fear. The friendship between Vrix and Humans happened too easily. I generally don't like drama but I wish that there'd been more here.

Protector, let me be their shield. Hunter, let me be their provider. Delver, let me be their guide. By your eightfold eyes, watch over my new kin... Or stand aside that I may do so myself. -Ketahn

I appreciated that Ketahn was even more passionate and territorial with Ivy in this one. Their bond was definitely stronger. He was possessive and even jealous at times. It was interesting to see this more 'aggressive' and 'alpha' side to him. The only thing that really bugged me about him was how he had a sort of savior complex, thinking he had to do certain things and refused anyone's help. He was a bit stubborn in that way and put himself in situations that weren't comfortable, especially when it came to the Queen and his responsibilities with the Humans he awakened with Ivy. I wish he'd noticed that his friends always had his back and that he could rely on them and trust them more.

He touched his forehead to the back of her head and inhaled deeply. When he exhaled, she felt his warm breath on her neck through her hair. He growled, “Kir telenas kess, kir’ani nyleea.” I need you, my mate. -Ketahn

As for Ivy, I liked the way she handled the talk with the humans she awakened. It wasn't an easy task and I actually felt anxious during that scene. Overall, I liked her assertiveness. Compared to the other survivors, she was a bit of a nobody but she had great leadership. She was kind and brave. I feared that maybe she would distance herself from Ketahn due to their difference, and that she would feel a bit ashamed under the judgmental and critical eyes of her peers but no. She was great and handled the situation perfectly. At this point, she'd already accepted her reality, and didn't care what people thought of her relationship with Ketahn. If Ketahn was my favorite character in the first book, I think in this one, it was Ivy.

Their chemistry was good once again. There was more sexual tension and more steamy scenes. Both characters felt territorial and possessive of each other. Certain scenes were repetitive, as well as some of the quotes, but I still loved them.

Now, the cliffhanger. I didn't like it. I don't want to spoil it so I'll try to tiptoe around...
Everything about it was unnecessary. I understand why the authors did it that way, but I was disappointed on so many levels. And the worst part is that everything was predictable. I wouldn't say not to read the book because I think overall the story is great but gosh I'm glad I waited until the third book was released to read this one. I would've probably died if I hadn't. I just think it's unfortunate that it ended this way.

The good thing is that I don't need to wait months to continue reading this story. I feel a bit upset by the events that happened at the end of this book. I don't know what to expect but I guess I'll find out soon. If you wish to read this book, make sure to read Ensnared first since Enthralled is a sequel in this trilogy.

Final Review (10/16/21): My updates tell the story of how behind I am with updating Goodreads with my reviews. I finished this book on the 8th of September but I refuse to let this book languish without a review because I liked it alot more than the first one

I actually liked… the cliffhanger? I am really excited for the final book. The addition of more humans really raised the stakes in this one and I like the variety in their characterization. Often side characters in alien romances feel kind of empty like (insert female name here) the bestfriend or the jealous man who is pissed about interspecies relationships. There is a tad on the later side with Cole but I am choosing to ignore his existence like Ivy should. Although a jealous Ketahn was kinda cute and he actually listened when Ivy told him to back off.

The vrix culture remains incredibly interesting and Ketahn’s friends are likely to feature in later romances which makes me happy. I was quite disappointed with a certain family member of a main character but I understand her motivations. The separation trope and fall of the cliff cliffhanger aside, this book was great. Though if you haven’t started Book 1, I would probably wait until it is complete so you can binge it. However, that being said there was a completely unnecessary death that could have narratively worked just as effectively by having that person go to prison.

Pre-read (9/1/21): Tomorrow! I have been crushed with uni assignments but I will make the time to read this and review it this week.

Pre-read (8/21/21): I just finished the first one and I am so happy that this book is coming out on 2 September according to Amazon. For some reason Goodreads says it releases in December? Maybe Amazon is wrong who knows... but either way I am looking for this to be an action packed, romance filled sequel.

This is the second book in a trilogy and it ended on a massive shocking cliffhanger, my that finale was bloody brutal and my heart was nearly bursting out of my chest throughout everything. In this second instalment, Ivy and Ketahn make plans to wake and help the other humans still currently sleeping in cryochambers onboard the crashed ship. Knowing this isn’t something he can attempt on his own Ketahn brings other Vrix onboard ones that he trusts to keep his secrets safe whilst at the same time attempting to try and buy some time and evade the Queens persistent advances.

The beginning of this was great the humans and Vrix’s reactions to each other. Each was equally stunned by the other but they were starting to build a tentative trust together. The middle I did then find a tad slow but then that finish more than made up for it.

Overall I did enjoy this a lot, I love how alien the Vrix are being arachnoid and I adore the connection that has formed between Ivy and Ketahn they definitely have chemistry despite their many differences. I’m itching to finish the final piece of this story so I will be diving into the last book straight away.

This is such an imaginative and unusual sci-fi romance. It’s well written and definitely unique and if your a sucker for aliens that look like aliens then this is definitely the series for you. I never thought I’d be so invested in a spider hero but I’m into Ketahn in a big way. He would do anything to keep Ivy safe even defy a Queen I definitely recommend this series it’s a fabulous read.

Okay, where Ensnared had quite a bit of set-up and some skimmable moments, Enthralled is absolutely perfect in terms of what an alien-human romance should be!

Starting off exactly where we left off in the first book, Ivy and Ketahn are together, but aware that their time is limited. They both know that they need to leave soon, but Ivy still won't give up on the remaining seven humans who are back in the ship that she crashed in. She manages to convince Ketahn to help her free them and at least give them a chance at life and, though it's dangerous to both of them, Ketahn agrees.

Commence waking the humans, and Ketahn asking his friends for help to move them all.

Let me just say, the introductions of Ketahn to the humans and then Ivy to Ketahn's vrix friends was my favourite part of this book. It was h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s, and though I swear I had some highlights on it, apparently they're lost now.

Hmmmm.... anyway, and then once the humans and vrixes meet each other, commence some prospective additional friendships/romances taking place as well, which I'm really looking forward to experiencing in Book 3.

Speaking of which, I'll get right on that to complete this series!

(P.S. .5 stars off for that ending. It was a total shocker, and part of me wishes it didn't happen, but I get why it did. Anticipation for the third arc of the story, and all that.)

Wow.
So many things.
I don’t know where to start.
That ending was devastating.
I need answers.
I need retribution.
I need to know how this all works out.
Because right now I’m skeptical.

Ketahn gets sweeter and more caring the longer he’s with Ivy and I absolutely love their relationship.
Zurvashi can curl up and die, though. And I stand by that.

NO WORDS JUST FIVE STARS OMG!!! that cliffhanger is gonna have me sobbing until the next book comes out tho!!

TIFFANY ROBERTS WHY WOULD YALL DO THIS TO ME 😫😫😫

but seriously, five stars for making me SOB like a baby and getting me so attached to these two characters. the world is amazing and the heartfelt emotion between these two beings who would do anything for one another and anything to be with one another is so beautiful. i'm also very interested in the future pairings between the vrisk and humans and would DEFINITELY be open to books for them also.

but deadass i just need ketahn and ivy to be happy and together forever at the end of the next book i’ll give it five stars too!! IM WHIPPEDD

pre-release (6/2021)
i gave this a five star solely to balance out the person who gave it a four but i am 100% anticipating for this rating to stay the same

This was such a good alien romance! If you can get past the fact that the dude has armor for skin, eight eyes and many extra limbs, you're going to love it, ha!

These books must be read in order. This one here is book #2 in the series and it starts off where Ensnared ended. I enjoyed this one even more than the first (which I really liked) because it spends so much time building up characters and watching them interact and learn from each other fascinated me. The story is filled with action and love and brutality and sweetness.

But ahhhhhhh, that ending! I need to start the next one asap. I think you'll have to think of these as one big book because they do not stand alone.

I'm giving this one a 4.5.

This sequel to Ensnared was not your typical alien romance tale. Sure we get some sweet alien romance as might be expected but this second instalment of the series leaned even more towards just being a very solid regular sci-fi first contact and survival tale. It has likeable characters and is often pretty fun but it is set in a pretty brutal alien world!

This story in this second instalment was a continuation of what we got in the first book. The big development was the fact that the other 7 humans were woken from cryo sleep. It was fun to see Ketahn learn to deal with more humans. It made for an exciting story as it mixed some funny moments along with some more serious happenings. It was equally enjoyable have more Vrix (Ketahn’s friends) meet the other human survivors and to see how Vrix and humans that were not Ivy and Ketahn reacted to each other!

We learned a lot more about the secondary characters who were peripheral figures in the first book which I think added extra depth to what was already a very well crafted sci-fi world and story.

This one ended on a real shocking cliffhanger. So much so that I’m cutting this review short to dive right into the series finale! I honestly think I’ve not encountered a crazy cliffhanger ending like this in my books since I read the Red Rising books years ago and it caught me completely by surprise in this one.

All in an all this was a highly engaging story that worked both as an excellent regular sci-fi story and a fun (if strangely dark) romance tale! It is a strange blend of genres but I think this series is fast becoming a new favourite of mine as it is the sort of book that is very tough to put down!

Rating: 4.5 stars. This series has a few flaws that stop it hitting the full 5 stars but I’m going to round up as I was completely sucked into this one and got through the nearly 12 hour audio in under 2 days. Any book that compelling deserves 5 stars!

Audio Note: This had duel narration from Marcus Rayne and Macie Miller. As with the first book we got Marcus for the Kethan POV segments and Macie for the Ivy POV segments. The exception to the rule was Marcus handled all male dialogue while Macie did all the female dialogue regardless of the POV. I do really liked that production choice as it keeps the character voices consistent. Of the two narrators I liked Marcus Rayne the best. He seemed suitably alien in his voice choices and seemed better able to emote with his voice. Macie Miller was not awful. She had a pretty voice but was a tad wooden and unnatural at times with her delivery. I’ve gotten used to her performance.

This sequel is still slow and still weird. Actually probably a little more weird than the first book.

But this entire book was full of filler. I got tired of the hero revisiting the queen for "the last time" and having the same conversations and aftermath each and every time.

I'm glad the humans aren't overly useless, but they were still predictable and wasted an entire book not going anywhere.

Hey prepared to be really fucking upset at the end of this book. Like, straight up just don’t read it until the final book is already out (or at all). The authors said some bullshjt at the end of the book about, “we didn’t like doing it. But we never said this series was going to be fluffy.” But when the first 1.8 books are just “learning to survive on a strange planet while developing strong interpersonal connections and fucking spiderman, albeit with a sprinkle of Terrible Ruler Who Should Die,” I have to say they sure seemed pretty fluffy—until this fucking ending. I knew before starting this book that I’d have to wait for the third to be released in January, but I liked the first so much I didn’t mind. Well I wish I could go back in time and not read this book. Maybe never pick up the first either. I wanna barf and cry. Yes this series dealt with themes of war, familial death, tragedy, and sexual assault—all very difficult and dark topics. But the majority of the reading experience focuses on the wonder of exploring a new planet, new species, new love and is so light-hearted. Then the degree to which this ending became SO dark and SO violent and SO tragic SO abruptly makes me feel betrayed. I’m mad and I want to physically fight these authors.

WHY AM I SO INVESTED IN THE LIVES OF THESE SPIDER PEOPLE?

I think I liked this book more than the first one??? Which is really uncommon for the middle book in a trilogy but here we are.

The plot was really good? I literally caught myself thinking, “please don’t have sex, I want to know what happens next!” I only thought it once but it happened. And they had sex anyway.

Also the ending? I’m upset. I knew it was coming and yet. Upsetti spaghetti 😔

Ketahn’s friends were in it MUCH more as well and I just love their whole lil gang and their friendly roasting. And the like teasing for his friends to get human mates too? Yes pls, they’re adorable. I don’t even know if everyone survives book 3 but my one hope is that somewhere in the future, Cole falls in love with and fucks a spider person himself.

EDIT: omg wait no, my ONE issue with this is every time - EVERY TIME - they fuck, he mfkn lines himself up and SLAMS his way deep inside and every time she cries out in pain before she’s overcome by the ✨exquisite fullness✨ and I’ll let it pass cause she seems okay but MY SPIDER GUY! EASE YOUR WAY IN FOR ONCE! PLEASE!

"So long as the sun, moons, and stars make their treks across the sky, you will be mine, Ivy.”

Oh man that cliffhanger ending...shit.

description

So the cat's out of the bag so to speak. The remaining human survivors are awake from stasis- and have been introduced to Ketahn and the other Vrix he keeps in his close circle. Things don't exactly go smoothly to start with the Queen still attacking Ketahn at every turn, the human's tempers flaring, the dangers of the jungle, and time running out until they all must make their escape.

But through it all Ivy and Ketahn's bond grows deeper and more profound even when everything seems to be working against them. Will the humans and Vrix survive the journey to come?

Yeah not happy with the cliffhanger on this one.

So yeah. I get it. You have to in the cliffhanger with a desperate note to get readers to come back. However, this was unnecessary to me. I do not believe that an innocent character who was conveniently dying should’ve had to die the end of the book in order for this to be a good cliffhanger if there is such a thing.
Zurvashi, that witch, could have held her for execution. Or even broke here limb. Any potential fatal wound that they could have saved her from, total murder. Come on, you guys didn’t think this one through.

3.5- 4 🕸️🕷️🕸️ Stars

The second book picks right up where we left off… The queen is after Ketahn and he’s trying to protect Ivy. Ivy is hellbent on saving her people, and Ketahn needs help, so he brings on his friends.

“My hearts beat for you, Ivy.” “And my heart beats for you. I love you, Ketahn.”

I had hoped that things would pick up, but Ketahn is still dodging the rapey queen and trying to save his new tribe for much of the book. There’s not a whole lot going on, and Ivy and Ketahn’s relationship takes a backseat to survival, but there’re several secondary characters added into the mix that helped break up the monotony.

Bottom Line- If you can get over the spider aspect this is a solid sci-fi romance. The plot isn’t the most riveting, but the character development and depth are exceptional.
