It was this collection of tales which prompted him to begin writing The Adventures of Fawn. Through the young daughter of legendary reindeer Comet and Vixen, he's been able to weave an exciting, colorful, imaginative world which will delight readers of all ages! In addition to the series "The Adventures of Fawn", with international author F. Carod, Mr. Boy co-authored an award-wining trilogy of psychological thrillers called "Misadventures Memoirs".

In the first scene of the book, where some characters were introduced confirmed the genre of the book. The concept of it being a thriller rings in the mind immediately. Although, the quoted words on the book cover saying “ Go ahead! Scream like a little girl. It's music to his ears.” is already a useful insight on what's to come. There wasn't any need to look further for its gore content because, the cruelty of the character Jefe was used to welcome the readers. More than enough to send a vivid warning regarding his personality. It was pretty evident that there was a ploy forthcoming. Astonishingly, it was not as gruesome as the first chapter might have implied. In the chapters that followed, there was a nice refreshing switch between the characters. Instead of the tense attitude of Jefe and his henchmen, other characters were introduced. Rather than dwelling on the villain that was introduced in the first chapters, we are allowed to understand different people. Sofia was introduced as the concierge, who had to pick up Dale from the airport. One wouldn't expect that they were to play important roles. Their presence in the book was of prime importance. As a matter of fact, they share the role of the protagonists. Sofia Hernandez and Dale Mathis did not have anything in common. One was the daughter of the hotel's owner and the latter, a guest and professor. The relationship they both shared could have been mistaken for romance, which was interesting to read about. Like partners, it became their task to uncover the reason for the deaths and disappearance of other guests. Sofia and Dale were contrasting but still complimented each other. Their pair was the highlight, and the center of spotlight upon which every other thing revolved around. As a plot twist, a-not-so expected villain was brought into play. Which is superb, because it just sweeps you off your feet. Jefe was without any doubt an antagonist. His personality makes a person hooked because then you don't know what exactly he is planning. Instead of obvious revelations, the book contained enough shockers to almost make the eyeballs roll out of its sockets. That was the intriguing part of the book. To realize that maybe, everything isn't always what it seems. It makes it easier to relate it to life itself, hence more worthwhile. Nothing but under covering one mystery upon another. One would notice that a third-person point of view was used here. It is not always easy to understand the thoughts of the leads when that is used. Surprisingly, in this book, blurbs were revealing what the character was thinking even though they were not the narrators. As a thriller novel, it did not fail to deliver. At the end of the day, you are left appreciative of the techniques used. With a perfect mix of contemporary ideas, suspense and wits each page leaves you longing for the next. Al E. boy and F. Carod's book, “ Misadventures memoirs: Little Girl screams” was written impeccably and ever so beautifully.

I don’t normally pull up other reviews before I write mine unless I wasn’t 100% sure how I felt about a book. Little Girl Scream was one of those books for me. Now, don’t get me wrong – it wasn’t the case where I didn’t like it but I wanted to make sure that other people didn’t like it also – I enjoyed it. But there were a few things, things that I couldn’t put my finger on that made it not a 5-star review from me. And honestly, after reading the other reviews from friends and colleagues, I feel like I’m the odd person out.
Little Girl Scream, once I got past the cover that makes my stomach turn – was an interesting book. The authors did a good job writing a book that had lots of twists and turns but also kept me interested enough to stick around to figure out the why of a lot of the things that were going on. Boy and Carod really had a knack for writing characters that jumped off of the page and honestly that’s where this books biggest strength lays.
Going into this, based on the cover alone, I thought this was going to be a horror novel – but in reality, it’s a thriller that has some aggressive scenes, especially in the beginning, but nothing that was completely out of the ordinary. I have not read Al E. Boy’s children’s book and after reading this I almost don’t know how they could write a children’s book. This book definitely had scenes in it where I think “wait, they wrote what, too?”
Overall, I thought that Little Girl Scream was darn close to being a 5-star book, and honestly it’ll likely end up rounding up to a 5-stars anyway. I just have to be a bit picky even though I can’t place my finger on the thing or things that took away a .5 from me.

If you like thrillers, this book may be the book for you. I’m certainly looking forward to reading more by this author. I generally don’t repeat the synopsis in my reviews, so the following are my thoughts on the actual book.
If you are a fan of the Al E. Boy Fawn series, please note that this series is not in the same genre.
Little Girl Scream will grip you with its fascinating horror storyline. The book opens with gruesome violence, but that sets the tone for the rest of this thrilling tale.
The dual protagonists are Sophia and Dale. They work well together to solve the murders and mysteries. They occasionally show hints of romantic feelings, but that certainly isn’t the focus of this tale.
The authors capture the violence man can commit and the depths the depraved will go to achieve their psychotic thrills.
Like Game of Thrones, do not get attached to any of the characters. No one is safe from evil.
Since I usually don’t read a lot of horror-based fiction, I was a bit slow in getting involved in the story. But once I was invested, I could not put it down.
Sophia tries hard to earn her father’s respect by being the best manager of their family’s luxury Cancun resort. Dale is nearly overcome with flashbacks from the torturous past his mind has hidden. Together, they make a fantastic team.
Just when the gruesome parts of the story came close to overwhelming me, the authors dropped in bits of witty, sarcastic, and humorous episodes to preserve my sensibilities.
There are instances of coincidence that seem far-fetched but actually work well in the story. I think it’s a sign of excellent thriller writing when you can suspend your beliefs and immerse yourself in the book.
I enjoyed Misadventures Memoirs (Little Girl Scream) by Al E. Boy & F. Carod and plan to read the next in the series. Just like the authors are capable of writing fantastic fiction in polar-opposite genres, I find I can equally enjoy reading books entirely out of my comfort zone.
I received a digital copy of the book from the authors to review, but also I read it through Kindle Unlimited. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.
Imagine the most elaborate, guest-oriented hotel in Cancun – the sunsets, the people, the sun, the beach, the serial killer roaming unrestrained, and you have a terrifying thriller that will give you nightmares!
From the first minute, Al E. Boy and F. Carod, the authors wove a delicate web of deceit, intrigue, and horror. A young 14-year-old boy is found murdered, other guests and members of the staff are disappearing only to be found bloody, tortured, and/or murdered. There is more to this story than meets the eye and it is Boy’s usual and methodical storytelling method that keeps the listener spellbound.
Boy and Carod time the developing of each character slowly and at different times, some come at the very end of the book which makes this story even more riveting! I listened to this book last week and have spent the past few days thinking about it – not that I had a choice! Boy & Carod know how to capture and hold the audience’s attention well after the story ends.
While I have enjoyed Boy’s other books, The Adventures of Fawn, this book is so much darker than one would expect. I was stunned. I loved it! I enjoyed the dark twisted mind that created this story, that teased out each detail, and the slow final reveal.
The narrator, Pam Tsujioka, as usual, gave a wonderful performance! She assumed each character and performed them professionally. Tsujioka is one voice actor that I love to hear. She interjected the perfect amount of fear, anger, doubt, and other emotions that ran rampant throughout this book. Her voice is very versatile! I look forward to more books in this genre by Boy and performed by Tsujioka! This is not for the faint of heart but rather perfect for anyone who loves a thriller!
There were no issues with the production or quality of this audiobook.

Little Girl Scream is the first book in the Misadventures Memoirs series of heart-pounding thrillers by Al E. Boy and F. Carod. For those of you who don’t know already, Al E. Boy is the reputable author of the children’s award-winning series The Adventures of Fawn, which I enjoyed tremendously in the last few months. But, with this new novel, he steps away from entertaining children in order to strike fear into the hearts of the adult audience.
Right from the beginning I realized that this will be a captivating adventure for that part of me who is always delighted by a good thriller. After a bloody opening scene, which reminded me that ”we are not in Kansas anymore”, the action moves to a new city and everything seems to be just fine. An exotic location, a high priced hotel where guests feel like they died and gone to heaven, an eccentric hotel manager, a mysterious guest, employees trained to deliver the best service possible. But when guests begin to disappear and are found dead soon thereafter, things start to crumble in this seemingly perfect paradise.
The audiobook version of Little Girl Scream is brought to life by the talented narrator Pam Tsujioka. She delivers this chilling mystery thriller in a calm and relaxed voice, taking her time with each character and scene. I really enjoyed her performance for this novel and for other audiobooks. Pam Tsujioka is a professional in every meaning of that word, with a clear talent for bringing to life a large range of characters with different voices and accents.
Little Girl Scream will keep you glued to your headphones for the entire duration of the audio production and will leave you wanting for more. Beautifully written, exquisitely performed, Little Girl Scream delights the listener with a captivating story and manages to avoid all the clichés associated with this sort of books.
A disturbing cover and equally disturbing beginning set the mood for Little Girl Scream, and I'll admit that I was ready for an edge of my seat thriller. There were definitely times when I was on the edge of my seat, but my problem lay with the in-between. After that beginning, the story slows down quite a bit as various characters are introduced. Now, I have no problem with that - we need to get to know the players in this game - but with that came way more than I needed. There's a lot about the everyday workings of the hotel, and I get that it shows Sophia's stress, and some things are tied into the who, what, when, where, why of the murders, but I really didn't need to know every single employee problem she dealt with. I guess what it comes down to is the story felt wordy at times, and some of the mundane details only served to pull me out of the story. Then, there is the suspension of disbelief, and this book required a lot of that. It is fiction, and we can allow some leeway for that, but there is one twist, in particular, that was just a little too much for me. In the effort to keep this spoiler-free, I'll just say that it concerns Dale Mathis and his connection to certain aspects of the story. It was just a little bit too coincidental to be believed. I realize that I'm in the minority here, but it is what it is. I think the story had great potential, but it lost me at various points along the way. I would say read the blurb, and if it grabs you, give it a shot. I read somewhere that no two people read the same book, and I believe that. But that's the beauty of reading, isn't it?
The author really did an incredible job of creating a captivating and creepy murder mystery and thriller. For personal context, my first introduction to Al E. Boy was through a children’s Christmas series of books, and so when I got this request to review his new adult thriller series, I was shocked. The chilling cover of the book immediately put me in a creepy vibes type of mood when starting the read, and the chilling opening chapter set the tone for this thriller.
I loved the balance the author found between the more disturbing and shocking horror/serial killer moments of this thriller with the more personal and heartfelt character development, especially between Sofia and Dale, whose friendship develops into something truly inspiring by the book’s end. The mystery is well developed over time and the detailed descriptions brought about a haunting imagery to the writing that will instantly draw horror fans into this thriller.
The Verdict
Gripping, mind-blowing, and entertaining, author Al E. Boy and F. Carod’s “Misadventures Memoirs: Little Girl Scream” is a must-read action/horror thriller and the perfect start to a captivating series. The imagery and haunting tone of the narrative, along with a brilliant narrative that twisted and turned with shocking developments that readers wouldn’t see coming, made for a story that is not to be missed.
This incredible book by Al E. Boy is exactly the thriller you need to read. Chaotic, mind curling, scary, and quite interesting. The scenery, the hotel, the antique, and the horror, all kept me glued to the book.
