The Valentini Family #2

The Lady : The Oath Duet

Rate this book
I’ve spent a lifetime avoiding the various factions of the mafia in NYC, yet somehow I’m in it up to my eyeballs.
I should be scared.
I should want to run.
Yet the city quivers in fear with every designer-clad footstep I take, because the Valentinis have ascended, and I’m the Don’s Lady.
It’s intoxicating.
However Luciu comes with vendettas and a craving for vengeance that could get him killed.
With my allegiance tied to the Irish, can I say yes when he wants me to take an oath to the Sicilians?
Is a happily-ever-after on the cards when the ‘after’ isn’t even promised?

This is the second part of ‘The Oath’ duet in The Valentini Family series.
THE DON must be read first.

5 stars!! 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 by Serena Akeroyd is the 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 book of 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝘂𝗲𝘁, in The Valentini Family Series. The Don MUST be read first.

Wow, just wow. I couldn’t have asked for a better conclusion to The Don! Luciu is his usual charming, perfect self and Jen blew me away by her bravery, strength, and self-growth. After the cliffhanger ending of The Don, we are back in NYC with Jen and Luciu as they navigate the path towards their HEA.

This book is amazing and so entertaining! You just never want to put it down. I adore Serena Akeroyd’s writing. The way she interweaves her characters from her previous books is genius. I loved that The Lady focuses on Jen and her journey towards finding herself and the love of her life, our Don, Luciu. The sweet moments between them are so beautiful, honest and touching.

Luciu is indescribable and you really need to read for yourself to understand how sexy and charming the Sicilian Mafia Don is. The way that Luciu treats Jen is literally every woman’s dream. I can’t spoil anything for you in case you haven’t read The Don but all I can say is, just 𝙒𝘼𝙄𝙏 until you see the way Luciu not only treats his Riggina (Queen) but the way he makes 𝙊𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙍 people treat her.

There were scenes in which I wanted to stand up and cheer because of how well justice is deliciously served. Luciu Valentini allows Jen to be herself and loves her for it but also gives her the tools she needs to grow stronger.

“𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘍𝘪, 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨…”

Jen proves to herself that she is truly the Queen and stands by Luciu’s side as his Lady. You have to read this duet! It’s not only epic in it’s own right, but we also see a lot more of Aoife and Finn and the beginning of what is going to be several more stories in the crossover series. The ending was amazing. I loved the way Luciu and Jen closed their chapter while also introducing us to Luciu’s badass sister Aurora and his brother Stan.

Serena has become a one click author for me. I am so glad I read this and highly recommend this series. I can’t wait until the next book!

I am so grateful to have received an ARC and am leaving my review voluntarily.

SERENA DID IT AGAIN.
Be still my beating heart because it is galloping right now.
Book two in The Oath Duet was everything i wanted and more.
The relationship development between Luciu and Jen was everything and unexpectedly more.
There's a lot of unanswered questions regarding other characters in the filthy series and the Valentini family which I can't wait to read.
I loved Jen, I loved reading her character development throughout, and I loved how Luciu was with her. He's just swoon worthy.
Guys you have to read this Duet, and you have to read all of Serena's book, she's phenomenal.
This is one of my favourite duet / series of the year so far.

ARC READ

one of the first duets I enjoy thoroughly. Usually, I like book one and then the quality deteriorates with book 2. not with this one. While it was obvious that she used this book to build up other couples and their books, I was still very much into it. The couple was hot & I felt for both characters.

He takes care of all her problems and gets a job.. basically her Savior. Didn't feel this series was anything too special. It was enjoyable 😄

"Well, I’m different. I see you, Fi. I have from the very beginning. I see the wildcat and the drama queen, the shopaholic and the lost, little girl who wants to be loved. I want them all. Each one is like a facet in a diamond.” (Him)
“Sicilian Darcy is at work, I see,” I whispered, peering up at him with big eyes that, I’d admit, were loaded with need. (Her)

“We were always going to be like us. And that is perfectly imperfect. How it was always supposed to be.”

She just needed to hear them.
And I needed to tell her in my mother tongue.
That I loved her.
That she belonged to me.
That I belonged to her.
That she was my sunrise and sunset.
Worth a thousand vendettas.
A treasure beyond anything my ancestors had coveted…(Him)

Going into this book I had so many questions after the ending of the Don. Everyone of those questions were answered in this book and more.
One of the things I loved about The Lady was seeing Fi ( Jen) grow or come into herself. To watch her really take on the role of The Lady.
Throughout the book we learn so much more about not only Jen, but also Luciu and his family. The big surprise is who the 'wife' was and the reasoning behind the arrest. I'm not going to give anything away here because it is vital to the story.
I will say that so much was happening in the book that everytime I went to put it down I just couldn't. I actually read it in one day and plan to do a re-read of both books together soon. This author is amazing in how she managed to write in other characters from four other book's and weaved them into the storyline seamlessly, it just made sense to have them there.
I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend you read it along with The Don.

The Audible Review:
All of the above plus...
CJ Bloom as Jen was perfection and Joe Arden as Luciu just added to the amazing story Serena Akeroyd wrote. their voices lent the emotion, feels and passion to the story. I absolutely loved the combination of these two bringing the narrative to life

Another wonderful, breath-taking story from Serena Akeroyd.

This review is really for both books in the duet. Which I guess is the beginning of the Valentini Family. I am so enamored with Luc and Jen. I love how they fall for each other so hard. Jen has to fight it because she could never let herself lose control that way, whereas Lucio is ready to dive in hard and fast.

I don't always love when a heroine is so resistant to the hero, but with her history it felt right and real that she wouldn't trust her feelings. She uses and is used by powerful men, and she doesn't know if she can trust Luc to be any different. When more and more secrets about her past come out, she is frightened and feels betrayed by them. It is all very overwhelming.

The steam was off the charts, as usual. And I loved how transformative and raw it was between them. I also loved how bold and willing Luc was to try a few things with her. But that's Serena Akeroyd for ya, her heroes know how to do it.

This duet also can stand alone, as the author states, but it is more satisfying if you are following at least the Five Points series. There wasn't any major cross-over, but I definitely see the set up for Filthy Secret in this one and it has me both excited and terrified. My poor Aiofe and Finn!

All up, this duet gets 5 stars from me and I am so excited to see more from this family and the Five Points world over all.

This was a good conclusion for Jen and Luc. I was glad to see that Jen finally got over herself and forgave Savannah. I still don't agree with how upset she was with her. I also hated that Jen let her mother back in, even for a second. We all could see how horrible she was last book. Not to mention, Jen was pretty clear she was blocking her from her life, to only let her back in a couple of times. That was out of character for her, or how she was supposed to be.

I did like the ending. Not sure how I feel about Aurora, though. I'm guessing her and Hunter are getting a book, but I guess we'll see.

I felt like this one was setting up Finn and Aoife's next book. Even though we aren't really told what they are fighting about, but it's clear it's more than just about the loss of their baby.

Wowzee, I am awe at how the author wrapped up this duet, I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion for Luciu and Jen.
There are so many bombs just waiting to be triggered in this book, it explodes in your face and all you would be able to do is be in a daze at the author's genius mind.

Luciu is as charming as ever and Jen being herself will make him work for her at every step of the way. The end of Book 1 was a total mental abuse for me and it started right off that point with another trigger just waiting around the corner. Also there are SO MANY crossing characters from other books of this same Mafia world that I was just here fanning myself over the Alphas , high testosterone level in the room and our brave, strong heroines who got the power to rule the world.

I am still amazed at how every point in the story come together in a huge full circle without leaving anything off and still giving am incentive for the next couple in the book.
I am dying to read Filthy Secrets with Fin and Aiofe again staring and fighting for our hearts.

A fantastic follow up to the storyline we received in The Don.

Again, Jen is so honestly and passionately herself. I think she may be one of my favorite heroines ever. I love that she will do anything to protect Luciu.

Luciu is such a swoon worthy man!

The Lady follows up to The Don answering so many questions that The Don left open for us.

Ugh! Beautiful Duet. cannot wait for more of the Valentini stories!

When I started reading The Lady I was excited to see how Akeroyd handled the cliffhangers from The Don, and she did not disappoint. This book was beyond amazing and the character development and world building was beautifully done! Not only were readers allowed to see the main couple grow into their respective roles and in their relationship; we were also introduced to a cast of new characters. Overall this was the perfect conclusion to this duet and I absolutely loved reading it. I will definitely be re-reading them together very soon so I can relive the magic of this story.

The conclusion to Luciu and Jen’s story for me surpassed its predecessor and I really enjoyed it this begins right where we left off previously with Luc being carted off and arrested. Jen is frantic especially since no one will tell her what’s going on and she’s also treated abysmally by his people.

This had a lot going on in terms of story progression with Luciu and Jen but also with the secondary characters also. These two are both finally on the same page when it comes to their emotions but poor Jen is still being subjected to so much judgment from others and I felt quite annoyed for her. luckily she is able to give as good as she gets and snarky Jen is definitely able to compartmentalise though deep down it does strike deep not that she’d allow others to see her hurt.

Luciu is a total sweetheart and will not allow Jen to think of herself as lesser going to bat for her time and again he most definitely has her back building her up and strengthening her resolve. Jen does have self-doubt but Luciu makes her stronger just by being him and she accepts him as completely as he does her. I also adored Luciu’s mother she was just so lovely and welcoming.

There’s some background stuff going on tragedy and buried secrets coming to light it’s also plain to see things are not quite right in regards to a certain couple who are again taking centre stage in the next book. This easily kept my attention and I was fully engaged right until the very end. A fabulous duet this author always consistently delivers for me.

“I recognized how Fi had come into my life at the perfect moment. Where triumph was within my grasp, but the future was unwritten and could have led me down different paths, darker ones.”

The Lady picks up right where The Don ended. In this installment we see the evolution of Fi and Luciu’s relationship.

A relationship as opposed to a transaction is unchartered territory for Fi. As such, it has her emotionally flayed wide open. Although tough as nails, she struggles with the fear of being emotionally and financially vulnerable. Recognizing this, Luc chips away at her fears, proving she’s deserving of love, and that there’s a queen hidden just below the surface. As Fi finally accepts that she is worthy of love and can rewrite her story, it leads her to recognize that what she has with Luc is not like that of her previous marks. This epiphany allows her to settle in and accept her role by his side, while donning a ruby-studded crown.

Outside of the relationship, there are a lot of other things transpiring in The Lady as well. We peer into the family history and learn how Luc ascended to power. We also discover who the mystery woman is and her role in the Valentini family. Luc continues laying the groundwork for changes that will be implemented within his organization. We see which of the former families will stand by for the new regime. Likewise, we see how Luc interacts with the other players in the city and who will choose to align themselves with the Valentinis. Despite all that - and more - this second half of the duet dragged on a bit for me. Again, we experienced the evolution of the couple, but it was lighter on action and heavier on the world building. I’m not mad about it! I really like these characters and am interested in seeing more of them, especially some of the side characters like Rory. So despite the pace, I’m pleased with the way it wraps up.

I was so excited to start this book with how The Don ended. Wow it didn't dissapoint , this book took me on another rollercoaster of a ride , touching on subjects that are very close to heart. Luciu is one swoony Hero and he definately knows how to treat his Lady. Jen is perfect for The Don , she keeps him on his toes and is loyal to the core. Another fantastic 5 star read from this author and it's a phenomenal end to this duet. I can't wait for more in this series and the other books set in this world.

Intoxicating!!!

Joe Arden and CJ Bloom return as #couplegoals Luciu and Jen!!

The raw emotion these narrators were able to capture is simply magic!

I honestly can't get over Joe as Luciu, his voice is just dreamworthy and forever will be in my mind whenever Luciu speaks now.

Amazing!! This Duet is definitely on my re-listen list and well as my reread list!

What a wonderful conclusion to Luciu and Jen’s story! After the cliffhanger in The Don I was so glad we didn’t have to wait long to see what happened. What a great twist with how that was resolved and it was quickly resolved as well. The Lady was Jen’s story of coming into her own and it was beautiful to see.

My sweet, possessive, alpha Luciu oh how you have become my absolute favorite. I love how he loves his Fi and how he helps her see her worth. He does what he needs to do as Don all while still treating Fi like the queen she is.

I loved watching how Fi comes into her own and sees her worth. Seeing her character progression through the Filthy series and get her HEA in The Lady was a wonderful ride. Her story with Aoife was heartbreaking to see because she loves her friends with a passion.

Really hoping the next Duet is with Rory because man am I interested in her story and what could happen with her.

Now I’m a die hard Filthy and Sinners fan and that Feckers bomb towards the end has my anxiety going crazy!! I know we will see that handled in Filthy Secret but I need October here like now cuz I need my Finn and Aoife to be ok

Again I highly recommend reading any and all Serena books!!! She is a master at what she does!!

So so many questions after I had finished with The Don all of which are answered in The Lady and I am so in love with Luciu and Jen they were made for one another. I would have to say Jen’s growth was what stood out the most to me watching her come into her own and be the mother fn Queen that stands by Luciu was fantastic. This book seriously kept me on my toes and the edge of my seat there were MANY times where I thought I knew what was happening only to have my jaw on the floor because I was no where close. I love when an author keeps you guessing it’s the best feeling. All the angst!!! This was a fantastic duet and you have to grab it because you are going to be in for the shock of your life!! I sure was.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I adore Luciu's devotion to Jen. Gotta love a man who worships his woman.

Something else I love was that his consigliere is his twin sister. I don't see many women, if at all, in positions of power in Mafia Romance, so it's refreshing when it happens, and I can't wait for her book.

Gotta be honest, but the whole "I'm Sicilian" line got annoying after a while.

Absolutely Amazing book cannot find a better conclusion story of Fi and Luc. They were just so good together. I loved them both so much.
Serena just killed it with Fi's Story as I said before in BOOK1 review, I wasn't bored or distracted once while reading this book. On of my most enjoyable read and duet too.

I'll give it a 4.75 Stars.

Luciu & Jen!!! I love this couple so much. Serena Akeroyd has outdone herself with the conclusion to this amazing duet, which started with The Don! These Sicilian mobsters are scorching hot! And the fact that the reigning family’s, the Valentinis, leadership is made up of family members just makes it all the more special. Which family members, you may ask? Well, the answers are found within.

What else will you find? A very pissed off Don. After the cliffhanger in the last book, Luciu’s agenda was revealed. So was Jen’s love for her man and the lengths she would go through to make sure he is okay. The way Jen was treated by Luciu’s guards, the way she tries to find out where he is and how he is, the way she is systematically shoved into a corner until all she can do is reach out to one of her best friend’s for help. I could literally feel her emotions as she went through that.

When Luciu finds out what has happened, the way he reacts is everything. I love this mafia Don so much! His anger and outrage at the way Jen was treated, the way he puts her on a pedestal that everyone can see, and the way he expresses his love for Jen was swoon-worthy! Putting everyone on notice that Jen is his and that is a fact that no one can change, all while shaping up the Italian famigghia’s ranks, we get to see Luciu truly ascend into the role of Don.

The Lady hosts an extravagant trip, meeting the parents, reconciliations, heartbreaks, sibling in-fighting, secrets revealed, and so much more. This was the perfect end to the first of the Valentini duets. I can’t wait to get Aurora’s story next!

This book was everything!!!! If you liked The Don, you are going to LOVE The Lady. There are twists and turns, secrets revealed, blood shed, relationships destroyed, alliances formed, swoon worthy moments and love made. Again, we get to see characters from previous books and get a glimpse into what may be coming for them in future books.

Jen and Luc make me think of a modern day fairy tale. He's a handsome, wealthy, fiercely loyal man that has never found the right woman. Jen is a woman that was raised by a mother who essentially taught her that men only want women for one thing and they will always let you down. Luc becomes Jens knight in shining armor, or Brioni suit in this case. He treats her like a Queen and she loves him more than she ever thought she could love a man.

One of the things I love most about this book(s) is how Luc works so hard to make Jen see that she is worthy of the life he wants to provide for her. He knows she is smart, hard working, and very good at her job. He believes in her so much that he hires her to work for him providing her with an iron clad contract that would guarantee her job no matter what happened between them. Luc doesn't allow anyone, even family, to treat Jen or speak about her disrespectfully. He vows to always protect her and he fulfills that promise.

This wouldn't be a true romance novel without a happy ending and Serena definitely delivers that for Jen and Luc. Honestly, out of all the couples Serena has introduced us too, they are one of my favorites.

The Lady is a delicate, but complex web of a tale with tons of action and intrigue that will keep you glued in your seat. In The Lady, Luciu continues to deal with laying the foundation of prosperity for his organization along with both new and familiar players in the city. Alliances being formed. Traitors dealt with. Jewels to be found. And trust to be built. Because the heart of this story is a man’s obsession and love of a woman who’s not sure if she deserves it. Jen’s relationship with Luciu can be very triggering for her. It opens her up to vulnerabilities she’s been avoiding for her entire life while - both emotional and financial. But Luciu is the hero that she deserves. One that's by her side when she realizes her self worth and accepts her for who she is. A deadly Sicilian Mr. Darcy that will lay waste to anyone that is a threat to her…. /swoon.

What a fantastic ending to a wonderfully romantic and smexy duet! Luciu is still the best in all his romantic goodness and it’s wonderful to see Jen grow into the Queen that she was meant to be. There’s tears, laugh out loud moments, and events you’ll never see coming. All your answers from The Don will be answered, but there will be new ones! It wouldn’t be Serena if there weren’t little breadcrumbs leading you down future roads. Aurora! Rachel! Aoife! I need the answers now, lol, but must be content to wait with everyone else while Serena spins her gold ❤️ .

Spellbinding conclusion!! The Lady: Part Two of The Oath Duet
It is imperative that The Don: Part One be read first to have the complete back story as it did end in a cliffhanger. The Lady continues the riveting tale of Jennifer MacNeill, fiery Irish beauty, and Luciu Valentini, sexy Sicilian Don.

Jennifer has always doubted her own self worth and Luciu strives to show her that she is the only woman he wants ruling at his side as his Queen. Jen's life has never been easy and she has learned many hard truths recently about her past, family and friends. She feels lost and betrayed. Luciu will burn down the world to keep her safe and right the wrongs done against and to her. It doesn't matter if it is family, friends or foes. She is his to protect and he will gladly take on that job. Their love is a precious gift they will fight for. It isn't easy getting to the top and holding the throne.

This is a book that will have you racing through the pages to find out how Luc and Jen face their adversaries to overcome every obstacle placed in their path. There is nothing that will stop the Don and his Lady from ruling NYC. You will experience a myriad of emotions when you read this amazing story of Sicilian-Irish love. Serena has given us another power couple in this duet and left teasers of characters yet to come. Bravissimo, Bella!!

Once again Serena Akeroyd has delivered the goods, in the final part of the Oath Duet, it would have been so easy to have rushed the conclusion to Jen and Lucius story but one thing we can say about Ms. Akeroyd is she never delivers anything but perfection and she didn't disappoint this time.

The Lady is an enthralling, attention-grabbing read, we once again are thrown into the cross-over must-read Five Points series of 2021. The Lady is full of intrigue, lies, and secrets but at the center of it all is the beautiful romance between the head of the Valentini Family Luciu and Jen, the girl that has spent her life being playthings for the rich.

Their conclusion was perfectly executed.
