It's hard for me to describe this book or at least what makes it special, all I can say is that up to chapter 105 this is one of the best books I have read. This story probably isn't flaw free, but it is overshadowed by what the book does right. ALOT of murim and wuxia elements, but honestly it could probably do anything and still be good.
I think this is about the 6th re-read for this one? I'm up to date at 82 chapters so far. This is, hands down, one of my favorites. The art, story and the depth of the King of Death is just amazing. What initially starts as jealousy and being murdered, leads Gong Ja down the path of ridding the world of the flame emperor; a nasty abuse of power. 4000 odd suicides later and Gong Ja is free to move on in the new present he's created.
The relationship between KD and the Sword Emperor is funny and I like how they try to get one over the other. My favourite chapters will always be Hell Maiden. The memorial and trauma was heart breaking. Then there was the one scene after the nine bows. The look on KD's face says it all. I did like how there was a group of new characters introduced for the Demonic cult and it didn't feel forced.
The librarian is a little creepy, but ouch. Cancellations suck. I've found my share of those. I'm curious where the story is going to go. One book down, 22nd floor sorted. I need to see SE's reaction to the fight with Heavenly demon. There was a lot going on there, but he got stolen away before any meaningful conversations could start.

I THOUGHT THE LIGHT NOVEL WASNT ON GOODREADS BUT I WAS WRONG. I love Regression powers so much it just creates such a unique experience from a literary perspective. This was just so fucking cool and then turned into a like full on romance novel halfway through which I did not expect but didn't hate.
2 stars because I thought it was okay. This is a dry power trip fantasy, where the character get swatted around by the world, but successfully defeats the random problems that show up on his doorstep. Because of the meandering and non-comprehensive story of this book, everything feels slightly random and meaningless, and the story is annoying to read. I read to chapter 72/130 (still increasing).
Characters: 1.5/5 I didn't like some parts. The main character is rather bland, and although the side characters are all likable, there is no single character that I really really cared about.
World: 2/5 I thought it was okay. This isn't that comprehensive, but the worldbuilding gets the job done and provides a playground for the characters.
Story: 2.5/5 I liked some parts. It is mildly interesting to see the main character use his power to solve every situation. However, there is no reason to keep reading. So far, the only goal is to get to level 99 and have fun while doing that, and every problem is just solved by dying a bunch of times. This is boring. There has been very little variation, and I can't tell if there will be any in the future.
Flawed, but one of the best web novels I've read. First off it's really funny, while also able to deliver heartfelt sincere emotional moments too. The main character is a delight, and his method of rising to power is so absurd it's somehow believable. He's extremely earnest and obsessive, and the two traits mix to give him an almost super human will power to suffer through ridiculous things to achieve what he believes he should do.
The power set up is really clever and entertaining. It starts off as a compelling power combination, but introduces aspects which feed the empathetic nature of the main character to provide motivation and ratchet up tension. This drives the plot forward very well, and allow for resolution of plot points in generally the most unexpected ways possible.
Tower climbing is great fun for the genre. Each arc is extremely different from the previous ones though, so reading doesn't flow with perfect ease. Even so, each arc's pay off is epic.
Started this journey with the webtoon and thought it was just a typical regression plot with a zero-to-hero protagonist, but after the burning mansion arc, lives were changed. I was so intrigued by the story I was dying to read more, I immediately went to search for the novel it was adapted from (my first ever web novel), and was hooked. It’s not just a story about an OP protagonist saving the world, like what the author said, it’s a story about loneliness, a story about life, and a story about death.
Our lives are full of choices, but there’s one thing that we did not and could not choose, and that is to be born. When the Tower Master was asked the reason for creating the Tower, she answered: “Everyone should be able to live one more life. It may not be the life they want, but they would live because they chose to live.”
And that is a concept that Kim Gong-ja reiterated later in the novel.
“We did not choose to be born into the outside world.”
“But the tower is a world we chose.”
“…….”
“It is a world we were born into because we wanted to. It is the world we decided to come to. Unlike the outside world where we just fell without knowing anything—we chose to come here. That is why the tower has meaning!”
The storytelling in this novel is beautiful. The way the author describes the characters, the scenery, the emotions, and everything, is so vivd that I feel like I’m there myself. The plot is so original and intriguing and everything connects so well. No words were written without purpose, things that I found weird or thought were plot holes will be explained 300 chapters later and made me exclaimed “oh, that’s why!” and once again, I’m in awe of how well thought-out this entire story is. The characters are all written so well and so in-depth that I could understand the reasons for their actions and thought that if I were in their shoes, I might have done the same thing. No characters were left unexplained and just thrown in there for the sake of moving the plot forward. And lastly, the thought process behind every characters, especially the main character Kim Gong-ja, is so profound that made me think numerous times, what experiences did the author go through to have such philosophical writings.
This novel is written in Korean, and while the translators did an amazing job in translating the language to English, meanings will sometimes be lost in translation. I can’t help but think how much more beautiful this novel will be if I read it in the original language, and I have never been so desperate to learn Korean before. That is how much I like this novel. I want to thank the author for writing such a beautiful piece of work.
Review as of ch. 190 Personally, SSS-Class Suicide Hunter, for me, is an example of a novel that has flaws you can point out, but is far overshadowed by the enjoyment of reading. It was able to deliver heartfelt and emotional scenes, as well as give a balance of action, comedy and other genres.
It incorporates a lot of martial arts elements, mixed with magic and other power systems. The world-building isn't really something groundbreaking; so if you want to read a novel that focuses on the world, I wouldn't recommend this one. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the characters. They're all likeable, with different stories, different designs and different races.
In the matter of the story itself, each arc tackle upon different genres and the author often uses overused tropes, but does it right. Despite being really tropey and dense at times, it's well-worth the read since each arc progresses well, ends satisfyingly, and leaves a sweet taste in your mouth. Another thing I'd like to point out is the writing. the best part of this novel. It isn't about the grammar or the word use itself, but rather, the way it's able to hit the right spots. It was like I was connected to the protagonist, and I felt what he was feeling. The sadness and anger that he felt, as well as his thought processes in making his decisions.
I did have a problem with how the romance progressed, but I don't think it was that much of a problem that it will cause me to stay away from it. It's still an amazing read and I would definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to read something enjoyable, sad, and fun.
Despite what you may expect of a novel named this it's actually fire. Cons: - Starts as ur basic regressor bullshit in the beginning where the MC just knows everything and can chill despite seemingly arduous circumstances no one should be able to overcome - Arcs start to drag on if you don't time out your reading of them (*cough**cough* murim arc)
Pros: - Beautiful use of prose which I'd actually recommend quoting if you're doing anything creative writing related - Great references to niche and obscure books like The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas - Fantastic romance and great fml (Raviel is actually such a top bitch as she says herself) that doesn't create a weird transition to the novel's underlying romance - Great recurring jokes (the goblin language skill) and themes
Conclusion: If you gain nothing from this review read chapter 97 and onwards for Raviel you'll love her
This manhwa is what I like to call good trash. You know the ones you know are bad still can't stop reading.
The start of the story is abysmally bad. I genuinely thought about dropping it after 3/4 chapters but then it got okayish but then it actually got good then it got bad again.
The author can't decide which genre he wants to write so he writes all of them. Because of this genre hopping the story feels jarring. Most of the characters feel just placeholders. And sometimes the story logic is so irrational it makes me laugh.
Despite all the complaints, the manhwa has some genuinely good storyline. Especially the martial arts world arc was phenomenal. And the art is exceptionally good. It was a fun read for most part.
Didn’t know that this is still on going. Last chapter read: 100
I think this would have to be the first manhwa I’ve read revolving around the concept of a tower (I know this is quite a famous genre for webtoons).
This is a great read! Even if I am more of a romance reader but I definitely enjoyed this. The worldbuilding and also the arcs are all well thought out. Though, it will all be the same sentiment for me - i still prefer little to no romance in a genre like this (giving this emphasis since the latest chapter is mostly about this)
I love it. One of the series that seems really weird but ultimately had a beautiful direction. I started reading this like 3 years ago, and I'm grateful to the translators of this behemoth of a story (both in terms of length and because of the archaic/odd language that the author seems to favor). If you have even the slightest interest in martial arts stories, time loop stories, hero stories, romance, family stories, civilization building stories, or just generally enjoy reading the perspective of crazy characters, this is a series I'd highly recommend.
Came for the romance, stayed for the character development. Kim Gong-ja is probably the most unhinged Korean online novel protagonist I have EVER seen. At some points I did get a bit tired at how easily he resolved certain obstacles and this happens basically the whole time. But you know what? He earned it. His "cheat code" feels more like a infinite torture mechanism to me, so thank goodness I'm not a protagonist and just a normal reader.
I am constantly astonished at how Gong-Ja grows through the story. I want to live with his ideals, I wish I was even a little bit as kind as him. I swear just how many times can Sinnoa turn cliches into masterclasses of writing characters. I've cried so many times reading this, and I'll cry again the next time. The Murim-arc, the Romance-arc... Every time Gong-Ja saves everyone again, people you wouldn't even realise needed saving... I love this story with my whole life.
One of the best sories ive ever read, it takes a very cliche trope, mixes it up with an amazingly written character and manages to surpass all expectations. Ive re read it twice as of writtint this and its still one of the bedt stories ive ever read, even tho it is still not finished yet
It's quite interesting, the romance probably not so much but others are quite okay. It get tiring at the end of the series though with sentences that probably are meant to be poetic but not really descriptive.
There were moments that were absolutely exhilarating, but they come at the cost of having to bear through whole chapters of boring writing, and overused tropes.
Truly a poetic peice story telling. The book really sucks you in and makes you feel like you are experiencing the situations in the book. Love it!! My favorite light novel from korea.
Yes I read all of it. Utterly boring, a completely unrelatable protagonist, and I'm sure even the author was giving up by the end. Probably life changing for some people but not for me.
