Tempting Auzed

Rate this book
Alejandra is a survivor. So far, she’s lived through abduction, a near drowning, and being lost in an alien forest. She thought things were finally starting to go her way when the most intense, grumpy, and insanely tempting man she’s ever seen rescues her from a monster. But sadly, that’s just when everything gets even more complicated.

Auzed has his orders. He is to find the missing human and deliver her to Tremanta. Getting caught trespassing in Sauven territory was not part of the plan. Neither was pretending to be the sexy beauty’s fiancé to protect her from forced marriage to a Sauven stranger…but here they are.

Their relationship was supposed to be fake. But it’s not long before they start to wonder if true love and a happily ever after is possible for two star-crossed opposites. And if it is…just how far are they willing to go to claim it?

Awesome world building!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 😢🙃🙂😚🥰

The heroine: Alejandra - she was abducted by aliens. When they landed on an alien planet, she and another abductee Lily, escaped and had been surviving for weeks in the forest until they were near a river and the ground gave way, splitting the two up as they were taken down the river rapids. Alejandra nearly died and was taken care of by a little rodent like creature that gave her cups of water.

The Hero: Auzed - The head guard at the pearl temple. He and the guards under him were in charge of protecting the small number of females that still existed in their city and live at the pearl temple. He was in charge of going into Sauven territory and searching for the females that escaped from an insurgent camp. He wasn’t happy about breaking Sauven law but if he didn’t, she would be forced to take place in the Sauven’s marriage ceremonies.

The Story: Zed finally found Alex and rescued her from a creature who had gotten her scent and wouldn’t give up until she was dead. Though killing the creature was against Sauven law, so he tried to get them out of their right away, but they were caught before they could get away.

This book was told in dual points of view by a single narrator, Stephen Dexter who did a great job. I really like his deep clear voice and though I usually like books told in dual points of view to be narrated by two or more narrators, I really enjoyed this one. This was the first book in this series I have listened to and everything was explained really well, so I didn’t get the feeling that I missed anything by not reading the series in order.

I loved the world building in this one, from a forest with bioluminescent flora and fauna, to a city of treehouses and more. The planet was definitely alien, though the aliens were technologically advanced. This is the kind of alien romance that I really like. The characters were terrific and the story was really good and well written. I definitely plan to read more from this series.

“If I could only look at one thing as I lay dying, it’d be your face.”

i was just not a fan of this one to put it in plain terms. Alejandra and Auzed were missing that spark, their romance was completely lacking for me the entire time. she was desperate to get back to her family, while he was worried over whether he’d lose his job. these are both valid concerns but i don’t feel like the characters were actually a priority to each other, nor did i think they actually cared about these things that they said was keeping them apart.. it made the plot go around in circles. everything could’ve been solved if they stopped assuming what the other wanted and were clear with their intentions and feelings. Alejandra was self centered, but then Auzed was too emotionally stunted. so maybe they actually are a perfect match? the sex scenes were ok but i didn’t care for them as a couple.

Tempting Auzed focuses on two characters introduced in previous books in the series – Alex and Auzed. Alex was separated from Lily in the last book, and Auzed is Theo’s straight-laced and serious brother. When Auzed rescues Alex while in Sauvenian territory, Alex lies and says that they are engaged in order to avoid their mating customs. This impulsive declaration leads to many complications as well as the beginning of a possible love affair between Auzed and Alex. Can the pair resist their feelings? Will they stay together even if they aren’t fated mates?

I love Alex! She is spunky and funny, and she makes the best movie references. She’s impulsive and quite funny, and I love how outgoing and demonstrative she is. Auzed is a solid, structured, serious, and responsible soldier. He is so used to being in control, and his life has spiraled into chaos since he first met Alex. Fierce and stern and responsible, he is shaken by the turbulent feelings Alex arouses. He and Alex are well-layered protagonists that each deal with internal conflicts. I found this part of the story really interesting. Alex has people on Earth that she loves and misses, and throughout the story she talks about her grief and the pain she feels at never seeing them again. She is very torn between wanting to return home and wanting to stay in this new world with a male who feels more like her home than Earth.

Auzed brings to light some aspects of his world that are interesting as well. Most people on the planet resign themselves to the fact that they will never find a mate. However, Clecanians who choose to remain monogamous to one partner are scorned. This is something that Auzed must think about as he considers his deep feelings for Alex. What would happen if, for example, they committed to each other and then Alex found her mate? Can they both deal with the scorn and rejection that comes with staying with one person? These unique social issues are explored throughout the story and offer an interesting perspective into the lives of the Clecanians.

Now, I love a swoon-worthy love story, and the romance between Alex and Auzed is sizzling! They are opposites in many ways, but they are also very similar, and they are so attracted to each other. I love how their relationship grows and develops throughout the story and how their fake engagement turns into something more. Their chemistry is off the charts – like sit in front of a fan when you read this off the charts! On top of that, their banter is fantastic. I love how Alex teases Auzed and gets him to let his guard down.

I know I’ve said this in my reviews of the previous books in the series, but the world-building is so strong that it’s worth repeating. Aveline creates such vivid and immersive worlds, which only continue to expand as the series progresses. This story takes place in Sauven, a different area of the planet than the other books, and it is fascinating. The author has created new worlds, cultures, social events and conflicts, unique clothing, animals, and modes of transportation. Clecania is so thoughtfully, accessibly, and vividly presented, and the imagery is excellent.

I’m loving this series, and I think this one is my favorite book yet. The characters are compelling, the world-building is unique and immersive, and the romance is amazing! I highly recommend the book (and the entire series) to readers who enjoy steamy sci-fi romance and am so thankful to Victoria Aveline for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I liked Auzed’s transformation from this grumpy by the book guy - to the head over heels in love guy.

Alejandra was a good character until she became sort of selfish with Auzed and only really thought about herself and what she wants. She was kinda self centred particularly towards the end half of the book.

Overall this was cute - but so far none of the books were as good as the first one.

I can’t wait for Fejo’s book and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s as good as the first or better. He was such an interesting side character and I hope we get more of his antics and his cheeky personality.

The universe created in this series is great and has a lot of potential but I feel like each books that came out since the first hasn’t quite reached the potential it had.

These are undeniably cheesy, but I love the world this author created. 🖤 I’m starting to over analyze things but despite what I’m about to say, know that I am completely addicted to this series and can consume these books in one sitting. 😅

That being said… I really liked this couple, but as I’ve mentioned before, the characters and storylines are feeling very repetitive at this point. If I had read this book sooner, I likely would have rated it more favorably, but the repetition is causing these books to lose a bit of their luster.

I have been thinking a lot about how this series could have been improved and one thing I would have really liked to see is more diversity in the personality of the males. They are all the same grumpy dude. There is no denying that this personality is a favorite among romance readers, but I want to see more originality moving forward.

Another thing that’s been bugging me is that the characters are so closely connected. I honestly wish there would have been a huge network of underground research sites planet-wide so we could have seen a little more of this world. I’m having a harder and harder time believing that mate bonds are rare when A. The girls seem to bond with the first guy they meet and B. almost every male who finds their bond is related. I am probably taking this too seriously, but the mated pairs are starting to feel like they’re a dime a dozen which is hindering my overall engagement in the series.

I’m also starting to really feel bad for the women on this planet. When will they have their chance at finding a mate? I’d be really interested in reading about a human man and a Clecanian woman at some point. I like that the author includes the reasons why Clecanian females might be happy for the introduction of these human women, but I think jealousy would be a much more realistic response. I would like to see at least a few women responding negatively to the interest their men are taking in these off worlders.

All in all I think I just want to see more diversification in the storylines. At the very least the male in the next book is the polar opposite of the previous guys, but I honestly doubt we’ll see any other major deviations in the plot.

⭐️ Another fun, sexy story in this series!

Summary:

After surviving for weeks in an alien plant forest with fellow abduction survivor Lily, they get separated and Alex suffers a terrible head wound. And things only get worse when a monster tries to kill her. But at the last minute, the most intense, grumpy, and insanely tempting man she's ever seen saves her. But sadly, that's just when everything gets even more complicated.

Auzed is ordered to find the missing humans and deliver them to Tremanta, the other human females currently residing. After trespassing in Sauven territory, Auzed finds Alex being attacked by a sefa, a creature sacred to the Sauven people. Forced to kill the beast to save the human, Alex and Auzed are placed into the custody of Sauven. To protect Auzed from getting in trouble, and to protect Alex from being forced to marry a Sauven stranger, they pretend to be intended for marriage.

Their relationship was supposed to be fake, but the more time they spend together, Auzed and Alex start to wonder if maybe things could actually be real. However, Alex is determined to go back to Earth and Auzed's job prevents him from marriage. Is it possible for these two star-crossed opposites to have their happily ever after?

My Thoughts:

Alex and Auzed took so freaking long to get together and even longer to admit their feelings, but it was all worth it!

I really loved the world-building and the continued development of the human women’s storyline on Clecania!

Also, huge fan of the fact that Alex is a movie critic, so we got loads of movie references.

And WILSON!!!! I want one! 😍

Does this count as Science Fiction? 😏

Regardless… work (and just life in general) have been pretty intense lately… and the absolute chokehold this series has on me right now, is getting ridiculous.

Highly recommend if you like: fated mates, grumpy x sunshine, reluctant and protective love interests, adorable animal companions🥹, fake dating, or the idea of men/males going to husbandry school. 😉

ohohohoho auzed, more like awwhe'ssofreakinghotimdead, am I right?

I'll leave now.

Anywayssss. Yes, this is alien smutty goodness. Incredibly sexy yet surprisingly tender! That first face-to-face sex session? Brought actual tears to my eyes.

But the WORLD BUILDING here! It was so freaking lush and immersive. I LOVE when monster alien romance worlds expand, there's truly no limit to where and what you'll experience.

Romance wise, I love a grumpy stoic guard all day, any day. I do think the whole fixation over humans returning to Earth in alien romances, while honestly realistic, I could do without lol.

That ending bit though? So great. Go Queen.

1. Тео
2. Озед
3. Лука
4. Веракко

Дівчата:
1. Джейд
2. Еліс
3. Лілі
4. Алекс

Auzed & Alex from the previous books:

We briefly meet him at the very end of book 1 where we learn that he’s Theo’s oldest brother so he’s Clecanian, head guard at Peal Temple (where all the unwed women live), and is training younger brother, Izor, to be a guard at the Pearl Temple. He’s in book 2 since it’s set at the Pearl Temple where he’s mostly intercepting Luka & trying to get some sense into him. We learn he goes by Zed, is searching for the other missing humans, and is pretty high ranking considering he’s the heard guard.

Alex (Alejandra) is the one who trudges off with Lily in book 3. From this book, we learn she’s a movie buff and critique back on Earth. Although she has almost no wilderness experience, she’s quick to learn and keeps up a positive attitude, with some complaining (but honestly who wouldn’t). The ground gives way underneath her and she gets swept away in book 3, but we have no idea what happens to her after that.

I love, love, love a fake dating trope, and this definitely delivered!

Auzed and Alejandra aren’t necessarily eager to be “fake betrothed” to each other, despite their attraction. Both have incredibly good reasons for not wanting to explore it further while also needing to maintain their charade, and I think the high stakes for both of them is what made this work so well.

I loved both characters and thought Auzed’s surly demeanor and intense need to follow the rules was tempered well by Alex’s more easy-going and friendly personality. They are grumpy/sunshine at its best!

*Edit*
I can’t believe I forgot to rave about their ✨first time✨! Well, not technically their FIRST time, but it’s THE time, and Y’all. The tension leading up to it was PHENOMENAL. The build-up combined with the knowing…you could’ve snapped that tension in half. So. Good!

Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋💋
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑🍑
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Humor: A bit
Perspective: third person from both hero and heroine
More character focused or plot focused? character
How did the speed of the story feel? medium
When mains are first on page together: Fairly soon in, about 6% (it takes a chapter or 2?)
Cliffhanger: No, this ends with a happily ever after
Epilogue: Yes, two months later
Format: listened to audiobook from the library (Hoopla)
Why I chose this book: My friend Heather has repeatedly recommended the series, and I enjoyed a lot about book 1 when I read it a few years ago so I’ve been making my way through the series!
Mains: This is a M/F relationship between a cishet hero (alien) and heroine (human)
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
Ideally yes. There’s been more and more details given about the alien lifestyle and culture over the course of the series. And you will understand more of this heroine’s background if you read in order.

Basic plot:
Alejandra is surviving in the wilds of an alien planet trying to get back to her friend when she’s rescued by Auzed.

Give this a try if you want:
- science fiction romance
- alien setting (Clecania)
- alien hero / human heroine
- fake relationship
- survival themes (in beginning)
- bit of an actress heroine
- soldier hero
- fated mates – but they really have to work for it!
- higher steam – 5ish full scenes

Ages:
- I don’t think either are mentioned

First line:
“You need to get up, mijita.”

My thoughts:
I really loved the beginning of this one! I thought the close proximity and tension building were so good. Being alone together fighting for survival is one of my fave romance things! But when they reached civilization, this story started flopping a bit for me.

It seemed their reasons for staying apart mattered so much until they didn’t matter at all. The heroine being really undecided if she wanted him in a relationship or a temporary sex partner made the tension fizzle a bit for me. The latter half I just wasn’t as interested in.

General Review for the Series:
While each book in the series tells a different story, they all follow the same core formula: an Earth girl gets kidnapped and ends up mated to an alien who also happens to be her fated soulmate. Some books I enjoyed more than others, depending on the tropes involved, but overall I liked the writing style. If you're looking for a fun, cute alien romance series, this one might be exactly what you're after.

This book continues the story right after Lily and Alejandra, two women who decided to run through the forest after escaping from the testing facility, got separated by an incident. When Alejandra, aka Alex wakes up by the river, she is alone and doesn't know what to do. A smart little creature she decided to name Wilson seems to like her and feeds her, helping her find her way in the forest. When she is attacked by a big predator, she is saved by Auzed, the Head Guard of the Pearl Temple, who was sent to retrieve her. Only, they can't go to the Temple just yet, as they happen to be on Sauven territory and the sauvenians refuse to let them go. Alex is the first human they found on their territory and they want her to become a citizen of Sauven rather than Tremanta where they are keeping all the women. The only way for Alex and Auzed to be free from the sauvenians' demands is to pretend they are to be married.

Alex was definitely one of the heroines in this series that I liked the most, with Jade. She was a bit of a sunshine trying to stay positive and she seemed pretty sweet. Because of her passion being movies, she referenced to them quite a bit. It wasn't annoying but I think I would've preferred she toned down on that a bit. When I'm reading sci-fi stories, I don't really want to think about modern stuff on Earth. But that's just my preference. Other than that, she was quite adaptable to her environment and kind. I liked the fact she would tease and tempt Auzed. She really was the kryptonite to his control.

“You don’t strike me as the commando type, Auzzy.”
She was about to correct herself, knowing he didn’t like the nickname, but his mouth softened and tipped into the faintest smile before falling again. Maybe he did like it after all.
“Sorry, Auzed.”
She grinned as she spoke, seeing what his reaction would be. A muscle twitched in his jaw, and she had her answer. He wouldn’t admit it, but she was certain he did, in fact, like the name.

I really liked Auzed. He was super uptight and grumpy, a very fun contrast to Alex's more happy personality. Even though he didn't want to admit it, he was falling hard for her, wishing they could marry for real, wondering if she would stay with him. It was quite endearing to see this male, who always had control of his emotions, be so clueless on how he should act with Alex, whom he found extremely attractive. He was possessive and jealous.

No matter how hard he’d fought against it, he’d bonded to Alex, and now his possessive side would not shut the fuck up.

Overall, they had a nice chemistry. I really liked their intimacy moments, which was hot and passionate. Their feelings and attraction deepening while they were in a (somewhat) forced proximity.

It seems to be the formula that the couples in this series are very attracted to each other right away but then mid-way through or near the end, they try to reason themselves that they shouldn't be together or, can't be together, adding a little bit of angst and drama. Delaying the inevitable is fine but it gets a bit repetitive. BUT, I feel like in this one the author did it right. The reason behind their separation was understandable and I loved everything about their reunion.

Overall, it was a very good story. It didn't feel like there was much action compared to the other books, but on the other hand, it was nice to learn more about Sauven. It was a pretty chill story with a slow pace.

Not gonna lie, I'm a bit on the fence with the next installment in this series, Using Fejo. Just the title doesn't make me think nicely of the heroine already. From what I saw of her so far, she seems okay but I know her objective of returning to Earth will drive me nuts. I can smell the misunderstanding, heartbreak and angst coming from a mile away...

This is book 4 and just like the others I liked it, it was an ok read, the main couple was nice, but it also had the same elements of the other books that prevents me for going over 3 stars and getting invested. I’m still gonna keep reading because I'm kind of hopeful about Fejo and Vanessa story and the cover for book 7 is amazing and part of me keeps hoping I will get more hooked, but hasn't happened yet. So, I’m going to talk about the things that don’t sit well with me.

Upon reflection I realized that I’ve lost excitement for this series, the books are ok, I don’t dislike them, but they all feel the same, their male characters all feel the same (all broody with the “hard exterior but good heart underneath” type that I might add I have also generally not liked or just haven’t cared at all about), the premise is interesting but the over whole plot is not really going anywhere, there aren’t real stakes or depth and even if I liked some elements nothing really stands out. I just don’t care much about anything here, not the plot and not any of the characters, I care enough to keep going but not enough to be excited or remember much about it as soon as the book it’s over.

Talking about this book in particular, I was not sure about liking the couple in the beginning: Alex is very impulsive that’s true, but she’s also a kind, positive person and she is the one being treated like a thing for men to claim without the possibility to refuse while the people act like that’s an honor, she is the one kidnapped and thrown in a new world without the chance to ever see her family ever again and at the start (and at the end too) Auzed still acts like he is the one whose inconveniences are the most important thing. Thankfully after that he gets better and they were pretty cute together. Over whole I liked Alex enough and I didn’t dislike Auzed either, there just wasn’t anything particularly interesting about him.

I realize I’ve only complained here, but honestly It’s just because I hoped to like the series more, the book is actually nice and many people will surely love it.

I gotta say Wilson really made this book. A tiny elephant/monkey alien pet who rolls around like a ball? Sign me UP

But Alex and Auzed were very cute together and I do looooove a grump who turns into much for his girl 🫶 and Auzzy is the ultimate grump

Overall the plot of this series feels much more diverse and engaging than IPB and I just want there to be more and more books 😂
