Welcome to the end of the world. The quiet life Gretchen fought to attain is over. Gone are the days when her greatest worry was being found out for what she is—a werewolf. Now that the forsaken gods are back to reclaim the world and rule it, her property has now become home base for more than just her own kind. Fae from far and wide unite with her to face off against the gods. When Gretchen and her fledgling pack are called to the front lines, friend becomes foe, and death lurks around every turn. Gretchen encounters the toughest challenges of her life as she embraces her ruthless nature, comes face-to-face with her greatest fears, and fights to save her pack and humanity from annihilation. War isn’t coming. It’s here.
Jen loves books. Reading them, writing them, reviewing them, and collecting them. (She claims it’s not hoarding) Urban fantasy is the name of her game, and being a mom is her day job. She also is a licensed cosmetologist, though she no longer works in a salon. She lives in the boondocks of Maine with her husband, 2 girls, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 1 vocally insistent cockatiel.
Is the third book in Jennifer Zamboni's Beasts Among Us series and is very well written. Gretchen, Doug, Evangeline, Emory, and Amanda have their stories continued as well as some added characters to join Gretchen's pack of werewolves. The time has come when there are three different groups on how the world should be run. The first group with Zeus and other old gods wants to rule the earth, Percy and Hades want all the Fae to go back to Underhill and lived they are, and Vivian, The Lady of the Lake (Natasha the Russian) want humans and the Fae to live together in peace. A war is coming to decide which of the three options will come out on top. Gretchen and her pack will be in the forefront of the war. You should read the first two books “Beauty Is the Beast" and "Pack of Freaks” and then read this book so that you get all the nuances that appear in this book...
I have loved the previous two Beasts Among Us books, but this one is so much more. It takes the characters through everyday life into navigating the actual apocalypse. We see old friends, new allies, and enemies. Jennifer has written this so well. Anticipation, excitement, fear, heartache, grief - I felt it all right along with them. I'm eager for the next book!
