Not a Beast

Lord Jackson Fisher, was suddenly the Duke of Merriweather standing at his deceased father’s bedside. He had not made it in time to see his father alive one more time. Jackson was in mourning, but it felt as if he had been in mourning for years, ever since his face was horribly scarred in the war against Napoleon. He felt like a monster and the ton treated him like one.

Lady Patrica Hunter, the daughter of a viscount, found herself in an untenable position, because her father gambled away her dowry. Her mother made certain that she understood that it was her job to secure a wealthy husband to be certain her younger sister would have a dowry when the time came.

Patricia met the Duke of Merriweather purposefully so to gain his favor. His scar was not so fearsome and it was easy to see that he was an honorable man. The very same day they met, Lord Cardigan also asked to call upon her, and as suddenly as she attracted his attention, she lost the attention of the Duke.

Lord Cardigan came to call and it was immediately clear that he was not an honorable man, and Patricia despaired at the thought of marrying him. Fortunately, the Duke came to call the very same day and they were caught in a kiss and forced to marry.

I absolutely hated the way this book started. It was if it was written by a teenager in a hurry to get to the “good part”. Fortunately I stuck it out and this turned out to be a decent story. Filled with romance, spice and deceit, the last half of the book turned into a real page turner. A HEA is the most important thing in a romance, and this was a very happy one. I took off a star and a half for some of the less than stellar writing, but rounded it back up to four stars.

I have such mixed feelings for this book. Finally, you've got a book promoting a rake for an H and the H actually fucks prostitutes. BUT IT FELT SO OUT OF CHARACTER FOR HIM! h kept calling him honorable, but it was never really explained why. It was hard to get a true sense of the h's character in the beginning, so it was difficult to connect with her. I was really hoping this would be a more complex story than another marriage-of-convenience trope. It was so very shallow. A couple times it got crazy sappy for me. The worst had to be the end which was a total cop out. Rather than discuss her deception, the author has the two bond over a kidnapping. What a disappointment. Very steamy though.

This book sizzles with danger, betrayal, suspense and romance.

What a wonderful book. The plot is sizzling with danger, betrayal, suspense and romance. Lady Patricia has overheard her parents arguing about the scandal that would befall them all if the Ton learned of the gambling losses incurred by her father. There is no longer a dowry for the daughters to procure a love match. Patricia is told she must quickly find a wealthy husband who will pay off their mounting debts or face total ruin. Duke Jackson Merriweather was terribly scarred during the war, and has given up on ever finding a wife who would not be repulsed by his appearance. Patricia sets her sites on him and his wealth, but she feels a true connection upon their first meeting. No more spoilers, just enjoy the twists and turns, as they encounter difficult and dangerous situations with the help of dear friends. Truly a very enjoyable and exciting book with a wonderful happy ending.

The scarred man

Jackson was the only son of the Duke of Merriweather and went off to war where is was injured and left with an ugly scar on his face. He was sent a message that his father was seriously ill and he was needed at the dukes estate. He got there moments too late to see his father. Patricia was the daughter of Viscount Chant, she had a wonderful life until she found out her father had gambled away her and her sister’s dowry, now she had to marry for wealth. A wonderful story to read, couldn’t wait to see how it unfolded.

The Beastly Lord

Fantastic, with lots of action in it that you don’t see happening. With a Lady wanting to marry for love. But for a very selfish father that gambled away there fortune. And a Lord who never thought to find love.Well this story proves that wrong and a very interesting turn in this that I won’t go into.Enjoy whoever gets to read this,as I did.And the Extended Epilogue was a great finish to this fantastic read.

Never judge others

Scared in the war and unlikely to wed a good wife, Patricia is forced by mother to make a good match because of father’s gambling debts. But when she meets Jackson, even with his scars she’s drawn to him! But the guilty is driving her to distraction! Good read!

Wonderful characters and a storyline that had some suspenseful twists and turns. Jackson has become a Duke upon the death of his father, Patricia has just discovered that her father has gambled away her dowry and her family is in great debt. These two troubled souls are drawn to each other, but what will happen when the truth is revealed?

Enjoyable

The characters in the story was good as well as the plot of the story the only thing I do like when you get to the end story and they have extended epilogue of the story, they make you go to another website to get the story instead of having it at the end of the story.

A different tragic family.

The father in this story is a tragic figure. To think that he could place his family
in such dire circumstances.
I guess that people are the same through the ages.
A good book to read.
