Too smart to be “just” a racehorse, too talented to hang out with other lesson horses, and too proud to believe in fairy tales, Milo chose a lonely path in life. He didn’t want cuddles, treats, friends, or even love until the day he met Claire. Her love opened his heart, but it would take nudging from a very special horse to finally open his mind. Barney learned early that love wasn’t a gift you earned, but rather one that could only be given freely. His unique perspective on life was just what Milo needed to let go of the pride that held him back. From lonely, to family, Barney and Milo find the acceptance they each thought would never be theirs.
My tween daughter devoured this book. She loves everything horses, and Tiffany Reese has delivered another sweet tale in her Cardinal Farm series, brining back her beloved Barney to bring out the true champion in book 3's main character. I would definitely recommend this book to elementary age and early middle school age children who love horses and stories of character growth.
