I was so excited to read this one based on the synopsis. Our heroine gets a scholarship to play volleyball in college and falls for another athlete who she met when she has to tutor him in English. The beginning of this, though, deals with an explicit sexual assault scene and our heroine is traumatized by what happened to her. Her sister finds her and I had to reread what happened because I thought I read it wrong. What happens felt really over the top and not that realistic. I also really wasn't a fan of the pacing of this book or the author's decision to tell a lot instead of show things. We'd skip two years, three months, or three weeks at a time and then have the characters just explain the gist of what had happened during that missing time. I wasn't really a fan of that. And the characters would sometimes break the fourth wall and talk to us as the reader about themselves and it was just really jarring to me. I also wasn't a fan of Adonis's reaction to learning about Femi's past either. There was just a lot that really didn't work for me for this one. If it weren't so short of a novella, I would have DNFd the book.
This was my second read by Mel Dau and clearly I have been SLEEPING on her!!!! Don’t be surprised if you see me going down a rabbit hole of her work real soon!
I absolutely LOVED Adonis and Femi aka Fatt’s story!! Wow!!!! So so good and so so touching! Femi and her big sister Fahari were best friends and their bond was so pure! After their trash äss mama decided she’d rather chase after men than raise her girls, Ari stepped up and made ish shake for her and her little sis! Now that Femi is heading to college and was accepted to her first choice on a full ride, things are finally looking up until one night changes her life forever. Like anyone would, Femi struggles for years and does not trust easily as a result of past trauma. When the wind blew Adonis her way she had no idea that him breaking down her wall would lead to her finding the love of her life. The thing is, her past meets her present like she never expected and boy did the šhit hit the fan!
I’m glad these two were able to fight for their love because it was a beautiful love indeed! You won’t be disappointed with this one!
I'm generally not a fan of YA stories. My age preference is late 20s and up but, Mel Dau always manages to suck me in and make me fall in love with these youngsters. His Love Is More Than Enough featuring Femi and Adonis was way heavier than I was expecting. The happiest day of Femi's life quickly turned into the worst day imaginable. But, Fahari is there every step of the way to help Femi through her healing process. Ari really is the big sister we all deserve. When their sorry azz mama deserted them, she didn't even hesitate to step up and be the parent Femi needed. When Femi got accepted to her college of choice, Ari packed up her shyt and promptly moved to Greensboro with her. When she said she didn't play about her sister, she meant that. Two years later, Femi is a thriving college student who stays on the Dean's List and helps her volleyball team to the finals. Then, she meets him. Him being Adonis Mercer, the star Point Guard of NC A&T. Try as he might, Adonis fell hard for his shy English tutor. These two were so stinkin' adorable. Adonis helped bring Femi out of her shell and when he found out what happened to her, there was no judgement whatsoever. It just made him love her even more. I absolutely loved how his parent embraced Femi and Ari. Hell, they even took Maine in as a second son. They were such loving people. And just when you think we've left all the drama behind, we get hit with the plot twist of all plot twists. Chiiiiiiiile, that tidbit of information was a gut punch! I did not see that coming! Whew! Femi and Adonis' love journey was a sweet love story. It was emotional and deep but, still beautiful. I highly recommend it.
Femi has her life ahead of her but events happen taking her through the unthinkable. She has the best sister ever but there's nothing like having a man that has you. Adonis is everything his name means and I'm glad he entered her life. This novella is powerful and doesn't disappoint!
Now normally I don't give a book 5🌟 not unless it really moves me. This book moved me and touched my spirit! Femi and Fahari was each other's support system no matter what they went through! It was great to see that even though Femi was scared to love a man, she was also willing to embrace it. Even though Adonis was mad, he always knew Femi was telling the truth! I loved how Maine was there for both girls and willing to protect them at all costs!!
WOW!!!! I can't believe you were able to tell such a great love story in the amount of pages you did! Loved it from beginning to end, spoiled now, realizing I don't need all the extra!! Adonis loved Femi thru the pain. Femi & Fah displayed sisterly love and loyalty at it's finest! That Rodney twist rocked! Keep doing your thing Mel Dau!!
I was glad the truth came out bout Rodney now Adonis & Femi can move on with their future this is my 5th book by this new author & everyone of her books is so good. If u r looking for a new author i would recommend u give her a try & i promise u won't be disappointed
I want to give this book 20 stars because that's just how amazing it was and truly refreshing I loved all the characters and the storyline .... I'm definitely a forever fan and this has pushed to my top ten of books to read
Good on this… I didn't make it far at all. This author had some good reads so I tried this one but from the jump I'm over it. It doesn't make sense to try and cover up what happened with what was going on. I'm done, seems to be going stupid and I'm not wasting time on some over the top bs.
This was such a great story. I loved the love story between Adonis and Femi. He knew from the moment they met that she was the one for him. He wooed her and let her go at her own pace. Second to the love story, the relationship between Femi and Ari. Ari was definitely ride or die for her sister. I’m glad they both got their HEA as well as a mother figure.
Mel Dau has definitely earned her place on my trusted authors list. I pretty much know when she releases a novel to check it out.
I love the way Mel Dau creates love between her characters(Femi/Adonis). It gives you hope that good men still exist. This was a one night read for me. When I began reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I love a novel that captures my attention from the beginning and flows eloquently. Even through the triumphs, she shows how a person can still gain.
I have read two of the three of "His Love Is More Than Enough" (Kalypso/Bellatrix). So I guess I may as well finish it with (Harlem/Constance). Love when an author can pull you in to the rest of their works.
So Mel Dau you you better with every book. This book was so good and I loved the relationship between the sisters. Femi and Adonis were so good together I love a man that is patient and caring. Fahari and Jermaine were a trip but they loved and protected Femi. I don't want to give to much of the away but it's good and I can't wait until the next one.
Love this book. Young love can be real and everlasting. Adonis and Femi meet in college during tutoring. Attraction is there and a relationship begins. Throw in her big sister Fari, her boyfriend and Adonis parents and you have a book you have to 1-click. You will not be disappointed!
His love was indeed enough. Their names drew my interest, and helped to drive the story, if that makes sense. Sisterly love is like a powerful drug. The ladies in this story gave us a strong dosage of epic proportions. The men loved with equal measure their women. I was happy at the end of this story.
This novella was beyond amazing I love the realness that it spoke and the message that it sent out. Femi is my favorite she shows that no matter you can always push through and love again. Adonis is how every man should be. I love their story through the struggle and all.
I loved loved loved this story! The trials and triumphs that Femi goes through is so crazy but makes you feel so connected to her. I love he relationship she shares with her sister and Adonis. You did an amazing job!!
I have read al! If your books and so have to say you have a gift. You remind me of Shavonne Latrice, how your stories just suck you are in. I want more from Adonis and Fee, I want to know their children.
This book was so amazing, I loved how the sisters ride for one another and the love she got from Adonis was so sweet, each page touched me in one way or another, please never put the pen down boo because you were meant to write
I feel bad for Femi and her having to go through. Moving away and going to school with her biggest supporter Ari, was the best decision. Not only did she meet Adonis the love of her life she achieved all her goals. I'm glad everything worked out for Ari and Maine they made a cute couple.
A timeless classic of love finding you when you least expect it. Happy to see that Femi was able to overcome tragedy and allow Adonis to show her the love she deserved
The truth always have a way of coming out, when you laSt expect it. Ari the way she cared for and protected her sister from jump was commendable. Adonis has no idea just how despicable his brother was.Femi in the end she overcame....
Well this is my first read from this author and I must say I loved this novella. She did a really beautiful job on this book and I can't wait to read more of this series. I am glad that Femi was able to have a happy ending and find her Adonis beautiful.
Mel never fails with her stories... Adonis was bay & he helped Femi get over what his brother did to her... I loved Ari & Maine's relationship he did not play about her..Great read
This story brought out all of the emotions out of me. I love Femi and Ari and Maine. Their bond was everything. Adonis and his parents loved them too. Great story.
