For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers a novel--set in the "fast-paced" (Publishers Weekly) and "totally addictive" (RT Book Reviews) world of the Immortal Guardians--that revolves around a vampire... one who has become a friend and trusted ally of the powerful warriors.
Every mortal who works at network headquarters knows that vampires reside below them. They were the first to surrender to the powerful Immortal Guardians who hunt them. And they did so, hoping they can be saved, that the doctors and scientists the Immortal Guardians employ can halt the progressive brain damage that robs all vampires of their sanity. Though curious, Emma never thought she would meet any of the vampires who remain under heavy guard several stories beneath her office. Then mercenaries strike, bombarding the building with heavy artillery. The vampires are freed to join the fray... and Cliff saves her life.
From that moment on, she can't stop thinking about him regardless of the restrictions placed on interactions with vampires. When Emma discovers a way to speak to Cliff at network headquarters, she becomes even more fascinated by him. He's smart, charming, and honorable to his core despite the darkness that lies ahead. And he seems to crave her company as much as she does his. Aware of the eyes that watch them, they keep their encounters innocent, limiting them to those of mere acquaintances. Nevertheless, their attraction grows and she soon falls in love with him even as the madness begins to claim him.
Cliff realizes his future is dark. As one vampire friend after another succumbs to insanity, hope that network doctors will be able to find a cure in time to keep him from meeting the same fate begins to dwindle, leaving him little to look forward to... until he meets Emma. Just speaking to her brings him a happiness and contentment he hasn't experienced since before his transformation. And when they finally find a way to be alone together, everything changes. Emma burrows her way right into his heart and quiets the voices. She sparks dreams of a future with her that strengthen his determination to beat back the madness. But as time passes, the voices grow louder and insanity begins to chip away at him until he fears it will eradicate every part of him she fell in love with.
Will the two of them find a way to defy the odds and find their happily-ever-after? Or will Cliff's descent consume him?

Thank you, Diane Duvall. Cliff deserved his own story, and I loved every minute of its telling. At headquarters, below the human staff, vampires that surrendered to the Immortals reside. These vampires have not gone insane yet or given into bloodlust. The Immortals and humans are working on a cure and conduct tests with the vampire’s permission. When a vampire finally succumbs to the virus, they are given a noble death of their choosing. Cliff has been in residence the longest and has the respect of the guards, researchers and several Immortals whom he calls friends.
In Cliff’s story, we explore his friendships with his Immortal friends and watch a romance between him and a gifted one named Emma unfold. The two become friends after he saves her and other humans when there is an attack on headquarters. It’s a slow-burn that was sweet, sexy, heartwarming, heartbreaking and so dang beautiful.
I love how Duvall allowed their story to unfold. She allowed us to see the good, the bad and how noble Cliff truly is. Events that occur showed different responses to the vampires themselves and how fear makes us respond. Duvall rounds out her stories, touching on relevant topics and developing the story to its fullest.
While we are witness to a few battles, this story was different in that most of the story is truly focused on Emma and Cliff without the suspense thread. It definitely tugged at my heartstrings and held me emotionally.
I laughed, swooned, and cried. Would they get a happily ever-after? Could I bear to listen as they said their goodbyes? Well, you’ll have to find that out for yourselves. All I will say is whether you read it or listen to it, Cliff’s Descent will not disappoint. Grab some chocolate, maybe a glass of wine and dive in!
Kirsten Potter out did herself with this performance. The emotions, particularly Cliff’s, and his Immortal friends, were so well done. I love listening so much I am going back and collecting the ones I read on audio. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
A Disservice This review is not long, but a spoiler......
I have loved most of this series, as others noted, loved Cliff. Cliff fought so hard to combat the virus. I was hopeful that he would have been turned immortal or at least into a gifted one. When the battle was fought, afterwards he said his ears felt funny, that gave me great hope because Leah said the same thing when she was transformed. I think it was a disservice to Cliff just to become a human again after all he had gone through. I'm anxiously awaiting David's book!

You know those tv shows where they are all flashbacks of characters lives in prior episodes? This was like it in book form. There is no plot in this, just stringed together events that we already know about with a tiny helping of original banter between the two lovebirds. It was deeply annoying. Yes we know how he got his girl, but it was more like reading a Wikipedia article at times. My frustration and sheer annoyance at this "book" was topped off by the ending. It is a whole deus ex machina event where suddenly everything ends perfectly because of ... Well you'd see if you can manage to read it. I wanted a fast forward button. I've never been this bothered by a book written by this author before. I just don't know if I can read new ones after this.
RE READ 5/27/22 After re reading I have changed my mind about my rating. The Audible edition by Kirsten Potter is still amazing and why Cliff's Descent gets 3 stars. After reading it again on my kindle when I finished, I felt so disappointed and sad. I don't think Cliff got the great brilliant life he and Emma deserved. He should have at least been turned into an Immortal Guardian. Emma is a Gifted One who can be turned into an Immortal Guardian. Seth's father turned Leah Seths human wife into a Gifted one and now she is a Immortal Guardian and she did NOTHING TO deserve her status!! Leah did NOTHING!!So Why Not Cliff after all he has done for Seth and his Immortal Guardians? Yeah they did a lot for Cliff but he did just as much for them in turn. I also hate that Cilff has been written out of the series. Its nothing he can really do now that he is human again. So Yeah after further thought I am extremely disappointed in Cliff's Descent!!
BELOW IS ORIGINAL REVIEW! AMAZING AUDIBLE!!!! EXCELLANT NARRATION BY KIRSTEN POTTER'S!! SHE IS AN OUTSTANDING NARRATOR FOR THE IMMORTAL GUARDIANS!!
OMG I Loved Cliff and Emma they were the perfect couple. We travel through Cliff's long struggle as a Vampire and the Many Ways he kept his Honor and Helped the Immortal Guardians. We meet Cliff in bk2 "Night Reigns" and he is a ever present character in every book in the series. I love this characters so much my heart is breaking. Will we see Cliff again?
Emma was a strong loving mate for Cliff she refused to give up on him no matter what. Emma stood by her mans side and she had Cliff's back with every Mental Descent or Break over there many years together. I loved the way we see the big events in the Immortal Guardians storyline from Cliffs Perspective!!
I am giving Cliff's Descent 5 stars because of the Narration by Kirsten Potter/ She is OUTSTANDING and Because I LOVE CLIFF AND EMMA!! I have mixed feelings on how the story ended for Cliff. Don't get me wrong the ending makes sense. Its Just that I wanted something spectacular for Cliff and I got what made sense and Not Spectacular!!
I dislike books that goes back in time and we see everything again just from a different perspective. The thing is, we already know everything except the end of this book. So, we have another book that made no sense as a continuation of Seth's one. I am getting mad at this author! I want to continue where we left off in book #9!
So I've been waiting for this one for years. Almost even more than Seth's story. I can't wait to find out if Dianne can give Cliff the HEA he deserves more than almost any character anywhere in her series.
UPDATE: So, I read Cliff's Descent, and it was everything I hoped it would be. Cliff and Emma, and the two of them together, were perfect. It was exactly the Happy Ever After that I hoped for, for him and for them.
Of course, now I'm hoping that Stuart and the others can be saved. Stuart is like Cliff's goofy younger brother. Even while dealing with psychotic breaks. I'd hate to think that all the vampires who are trying just as hard as Cliff was are doomed. Even if they don't have an Emma, they deserve to be saved.
The story was mostly copied and pasted from like 6 previous books- so if you read up on them to get ready for the new book- well that was a major waste of your time. This book was 3/4 of “previously on…” which was seriously annoying. Could’ve just made this book a novella going forward from the final battle scene in Seths book.
I could’ve over looked all that if the author had granted us a spectacular finish- but it was blah. Dude suffered for years, worked hard to keep his sanity, and saved the lives of countless immortals, and what does he get for it?!?! Nothing. He gets restored to his original state, like a glitchy app being restored to the last time it worked right. The great Seth’s father who can make a grown-ass woman immortal took away a hero’s death to make the hero grow old and die. Also no protection against being turned again if he got bit. Lame lame lame!

I'm not afraid to admit I cried reading this book, I won't give anything away but if like me you're a fan of the immortal guardians series you really need to read this book. A huge thank you to the author for giving us "Cliffs story" .
Narrator: Kirsten Potter was amazing...AGAIN I so was expecting more. Not to happy about all the rehashing of the previous books in the series. After re-reading at least 3 times some 5 times I was disapointed. I know that for someone who doesn't have a clue about this series it does hold it's own and explains a lot. Did like their love story and how new friends did help along the way like Ammy, Tod and of course Sadie. The ending was just ok for me, did have a feeling that "Dad" had a say in it. Would have like to know what happens to him beeing mortal, will he keep working for them and in what capacity, what about his dad?? Did want him to be immortal, she is after all a gifted one. Don't think I will be re-reading this one as much. Very happy that Kirsten Potter(need more stars for her) was still the narrator, felt like an old friend. Her characters are always on spot, you know who is who without a doubt.
This author never disappoints. It was a good installment of the series. I love that I didn’t see the ending coming. My only complaint were the time jumps. There were many and felt abrupt each time. Other than that, great story. Narrator was fantastic as usual.
Oh side note - why do all black characters have to have fro’s, braids or dreads? Have you noticed every black person in a story with that hair style? Pop stars, rappers, actors/actresses??? The answer is NO and it’s annoying when it happens in books all the time.
This was a book I never thought we would get. The story of Cliff the vampire has played out in the background of the Immortal Guardians series, with each book seeing him succumb further and further to the madness of the vampiric virus infecting his body. Now, we get to see his story in full, including a beautifully heartwarming secret romance, as he fights to survive.
Cliff was introduced in book #3 of the series, Phantom Shadows, as one of the vampires working with Bastien. He’s appeared in most (if not all) of the books since then, and though captured as an enemy, he has become a valued member of the team, and a good friend to many of characters. The timeline of this book covers pretty much the whole series, especially the big moments where Cliff was on hand to help out, and I enjoyed revisiting so many of these scenes from a different perspective.
We also get to see during this time, how the virus-related psychosis is impacting him, and his efforts to keep it at bay.
But mostly, we get to see Cliff and Emma. Emma works at network headquarters, and she knows all about the vampires who live in the basement of the building. She’s always had a bit of a crush on Cliff, and when they get the opportunity to actually meet, sparks fly. They become friends first, but their feelings for each other grow over time, and when Cliff gets the opportunity to leave headquarters each night to go out hunting with Bastien, he seeks Emma out, and they begin a beautifully sweet romance.
These two are so gorgeous together. They’re open and honest about what they want, and the reality of their situation, and they agree to follow their hearts for as long as they can, and their love story is sweet and sexy with lots of emotion.
But neither of them can deny that the virus is slowly killing him. The psychosis is growing worse, and Cliff is losing control of himself. It’s an inevitability that he, Emma, and all of their friends, are aware of, and it’s so sad seeing them try to deal with it, while working hard to enjoy every moment together that they have.
Cliff is such a great character. At his core, he’s a good guy with strong morals and a desire to do good. It was so devastating watching him deal with his condition and prognosis, and his overwhelming fear that he would end up hurting someone that he loves. And, as I have been through quite a few books now, I was hoping so hard for him to get his well-deserved happy ending.
Emma is a great heroine. She’s strong and she knows what she wants, and I love how openly she accepted Cliff and how hard she fought to help him and then, to keep him.
There’s a good amount of action (most of which we’ve already seen), and of course there’s emotion and drama, but the gorgeous love story brings lots of light, happy moments. I enjoyed seeing so much of the Immortal Guardians – especially Bastien – and loved being back in this world. Cliff and Emma’s story is so, so sweet, I loved seeing Cliff find his happy, and the book left me feeling satisfied with a smile on my face.
This was the absolute perfect book for Cliff to get his HEA.A lot of the book was parts of previous books from his perspective but I loved every minute of it,
“You’re the best thing in my life, Emma. The absolute best.
Emma was so patient and loving and I couldn’t have asked for a better woman for Cliff.
But I’ll be here to help you through it. All of it.” She kissed him again. “I’m not going anywhere.”
All of our favorites are front and center. Wonderful edition.
Book source ~ ARC. My review is voluntary and honest.
Known as Cliff the Vampire at network headquarters, he’s a favorite of the human employees and the Immortal Guardians whose job it is to kill vampires, not protect them. However, one night several years prior during a massive confrontation between the Immortal Guardians, Bastien (long story), and vampires, Cliff and two others were asked if they wanted to surrender and be housed at the network while the doctors work on a cure for the virus that transforms the non-gifted into vampires. Since the other option is to be killed outright they agree. Plus, they really wanted to be cured.
Cliff has survived longer than any known vampire, but he’s struggling. His friends do anything and everything they can think of to keep him sane and one person who quiets the voices is Emma. Years pass and as time marches on and there’s still no cure, Cliff has to face reality – he’s slowly succumbing to the madness that afflicts all vampires and he needs to make a choice soon about how he wants to die. When a final terrible battle is thrust upon them, Cliff grabs his chance to die a hero. But will the people who love him let him go?
Wow. And holy shit. I love this story! Love it! It’s different from all of the other Immortal Guardians tales in that we have known Cliff from Book 1. He has been an integral part of the Immortal Guardian Universe for several years and 10 books. He’s been in the background as a secondary character in every single story. Getting his own book just feels right. Plus, he’s a great character! He may not be an Immortal Guardian, but as a vampire he is still a central character in the fight against a virus that destroys anyone who is not gifted.
Now, I wondered how the hell Dianne Duvall was going to write about a guy we’ve come to know and love over such a long span. Someone who has been in the background, but who is such a wonderful guy that he makes friends among everyone. Well, she started at the beginning, of course. And it works. I love how we get scenes from previous books, but from Cliff’s POV. Seeing everything through his eyes made all the other books richer and in-depth to me. But that’s just my opinion. I love multiple POVs.
It wouldn’t be an Immortal Guardians book if there wasn’t a strong woman to stand up for the man she’s attracted to and that’s where Emma comes in. Cliff saves her after she was trying to save others when network HQ is attacked. And a slow-moving romance blossoms from a friendship encouraged by their friends. Emma and Cliff give us insight into network headquarters and we get to see, up close and personal, Cliff’s struggle with the madness that has consumed his friends and is slowly consuming him. Emma is strong yet vulnerable, intelligent, and her humor shines through. She’s a perfect match for Cliff.
There are other readers who were disappointed in the ending to Cliff’s journey. I’m not one of them. I think it was the right choice to make and it is perfect. To me anyway. I love the Immortal Guardians, Cliff the Vampire, and all the other individuals who exist in this wonderful universe. The fast action, steamy attraction, humor, and fantastic characters make my fingers fly through the pages as I devour each book in one sitting. Dianne Duvall’s books continue to sit on my Top Ten Favorite Series List. I cannot recommend them enough. In fact, you’ll probably get sick of me singing their praises. But I can’t help it. When I’m really down or stuck in a slump I will always turn to the Immortal Guardians to lift me back up. Because that’s what old friends do.

Cliffs Descent de Dianne Duvall serie Immortal Guardians libro 11
Argumento:
Totalmente me encantó!
WOW! Thank you so much for bringing us Cliff's story. He has been in the background during so much of the series. I was great to get his POV and really live his life over the years.
Some of th ebook takes place historically but we see events from Cliff's eyes. As we move forward to the present, we really see his struggle with the virus and with the fact that he is a good guy and wants to do the right thing for all his friends but especially for Emma.
I loved Emma for him. She is strong and loving and so supportive especially given the world that they live in. They take the slow road by getting to know each ot her and becoming friends first before moving on. All their decisions are not taken lightly. I appreciate the author being clear about the gravity of the situation. Nothing is glossed over. Yet love wins the day!
Great addition to the a series. Great to see Seth and Bastian and Adrian again. Great read!
Having followed Cliff from the beginning , it was a real thrill to be able to live his side of it. As always, very well written and entertaining. Although this one had me tearing up almost on almost every page!
Dianne you gave us the most satisfying answer to Cliff’s story. We’ve been hoping and waiting for it and you found a way to give it to us. Thank you! Even if it was a rollercoaster of emotions and made me cry multiple times especially theses lines: “This is who I am” and “This is who we are”
What a beautiful story, love continues even though good times and bad, makes you stronger. Ms Duvall wrote a story that pulls all you emotions in. Laughter and the tears. Everyone else has told of the synopsis of the book, but I say read it. Started this am at 9 and was done by 6 pm, life kept getting in the way! LOL 5 stars I would give its 10 if I could. Thank you for a great book
For readers of this series, this book is a must read. The main character Cliff is a vampire-one that is fighting the madness that comes along with the vampire virus. He is the subject of a study put in place to find a cure for the deadly virus. Along the way, he has made good and lasting friendships with most of the immortal guardians and many of the guards at the guardian headquarters where he lives. One night he saves the life of Emma when there’s a breach in the system and a good part of the headquarters is blown up. He meets her again months later and a friendship is formed. And soon a romance blossoms even though Cliff can never have a happy ending.
The book starts several books back in this series and we do see Cliff’s side of many of the pivotal moments of the previous books. Cliff has won the hearts of most of Duvall’s readers with his all around good guy charm. Emma was fairly new to the story or I should say, I don’t remember her from the other books. She does work at headquarters and I rarely remember side characters unless they are important to the story. But I think Emma was just as charming as Cliff.
I had been wanting Cliff’s story for years. I was beyond excited to read it. And Duvall didn’t disappoint as it was very well written with a good premise and characters that I loved.
Kirsten Potter’s narration was simply 5 stars. She was perfect for the male voices. So glad I chose to listen instead of read.
Great story that I highly recommend to adult paranormal romance readers-especially ones that enjoy action and some scary moments.
Wow! Just finished. Dianne Duval not only hit the ball out of the park, she hit a grand slam. It wasn’t the ending I had hoped for. But it was solidly realistic. I totally enjoyed his POV. I cried a lot of tears. But it was totally worth it.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Immortal Guardians series is one of my favourite paranormal romance series. As for the characters, I have come to think of them as friends. Therefore, I was excited to learn that Cliff had his own story. What made Cliff's Descent different from the other books in the series was that the main character, Cliff, is not immortal. Instead, he is a vampire. Read on for my views on Cliff's Descent, book 11 in the Immortal Guardian series.
Cliff, through no choice of his, became a vampire. In the Immortal Guardian world, that is a death sentence. The virus that causes vampirism reacts differently in non-gifted people. It causes them to go insane from bloodlust. The doctors who work for the Immortal Guardian are working hard to find a cure for the vampires who chose to be the subjects of this experiment. Cliff is one of those vampires. Cliff has been the longest-surviving vampire and has gained the respect of the guards, researchers, and several immortal guards whom he deems his friends.
In Cliff’s Descent, Duvall highlights the friendships Cliff shares with some of the immortal guardians. She also explores his romance with Emma, a gifted one who works at the Immortal Guardians headquarters. After an incident where mercenaries stormed the headquarters, which led to Cliff saving her life, the two became friends. Soon, their friendship slowly evolved into a charming, passionate, and heartfelt romance that will captivate readers.
I enjoyed the story that unfolded in this installment. It was great getting to know Cliff. He is loyal, a good friend, and a great lover. Watching him struggle to maintain his sanity broke my heart. I kept rooting for the doctors to find a cure because Cliff deserved a second chance.
The story focused mainly on Cliff and Emma's relationship. However, readers who followed the series from the start will have flashbacks of events that occurred in previous installments. Don't go into this one expecting suspense and action, the trademarks of the series. On the other hand, expect to be emotionally invested in Cliff and Emma's journey.I kept my fingers crossed for a happy ending. It did occur, but it did not live up to my expectations. The outcome I envisioned was nowhere close to the actual one. Nonetheless, Cliff's Descent entertained me.
Kirsten Potter did an excellent job, as expected, with each of the characters. She captured the nuances of each character, from their tone to their accents and emotions. She's definitely the voice for the series. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
Did I love Cliff's book? Yes and No. I am so glad Cliff got his HEA but without giving spoilers away I wish he would have been given more. Some people may be put off by this book because this book takes place over the course of last 4 years or so and many events we have already read about in previous books. This time they are from Cliff and Emma's points of view though. Dianne Duvall has done this throughout her Immortal Guardian books, but this book stands out more so than any other. I enjoy books that share timelines with others as I'm always wanting to know more. More details. More insight into what specific characters were thinking. More....well.... everything so this did not bother me at all.
I liked Emma a lot and it was really nice to get to know her more than the brief encounters we saw throughout the rest of the series. She is a great strong character. Speaking of characters, it was also nice to see many other characters interacting with Cliff in more detail. This really endeared more characters to me....as if I needed more reasons to love some of them.
Hearing about what Cliff endured to keep going day after day was almost difficult. Very heart wrenching and I probably shouldn't have been listening to this book out in public as I'm a big ol' softy and kept tearing up during the last half.
Overall, this was a very good book and I'm glad she wrote it but it really wasn't one of my favorites.
Overall Rating ★★★★ Plot ★★★ Humor ★★★★ Characters & Character Development ★★★ Narration ★★★★★
Story: I was pretty underwhelmed by this story that I'd looked forward to. So much of it was stuff that I'd already seen happen. Don't get me wrong, I love Cliff as a character. It was a decent story. It just wasn't really grabbing my attention most of the time. I never really loved the glimpses we got of Emma either. The story was alright.
Narration: Always love this narrator. She's amazing.
Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians’ series ROCKS. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Every installment teems with a scorching romance, heart-stopping action and great camaraderie. Cliff's Descent: A Vampire's Tale is no exception. It’s worthy to note that this is the very first book in the series to feature a vampire as its main character – and that honor is bestowed upon Cliff.
Cliff initially made an appearance as one of the vampires in Bastien’s army in Phantom Shadows, the third installment in the Immortal Guardians’ series. Since then, he’s shown up as a secondary character frequently in the series. From the beginning, Cliff’s honor and courage were evident. Though he started as an enemy of the Immortal Guardians, he evolved to becoming a good and trusted friend and warrior to many of the Immortal Guardians, their families, friends and associates as they came to know his nature and fortitude.
Though fans of the series have already experienced many of the scenes detailed via flashbacks early on in Cliff’s Descent, this book gives us Cliff’s perspective of those scenes. If you are a fan and worried that you may be bored by the repetition, don’t be. Even though I recognized those scenes, they felt different when told from Cliff’s view.
Emma is Cliff’s love interest in this tale. She and Cliff met during the vicious mercenary onslaught of the network headquarters when Cliff worked non-stop to safely evacuate the human employees while the Immortal Guardians held off the mercenaries. Emma was one of those Cliff saved.
Later, Cliff was granted the privilege of choosing to eat lunch in the headquarters’ lunchroom where he meets Emma again. Little does he know, but Emma already has a huge crush on the handsome, noble vampire. Their lunches become a regular thing… and, one night, after a successful night of hunting vampires with Bastien, Bastien gifts Cliff with an opening to see Emma away from the network.
“Bastien passed him the duffel. “Just don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
Cliff looped the strap over his shoulder. “Is there anything you wouldn’t do?”
“Hmm. Good point. Have fun then.”
Their stolen times together are a balm to Cliff as Emma quiets the increasingly violent voices that threaten to drive him mad. Their obvious love for each other is so genuine, sweet and beautiful. I found their story to be an incredibly emotional rollercoaster. I laughed, sighed, swooned to a puddle and cried a few times as I was saddened by Cliff’s declining mental state and despaired of a happy ending for the two. But Emma never lost faith in Cliff so I held onto hope. My heart yearned for a cure for Cliff and for all the vampires who had turned themselves into the Immortal Guardians hoping to be cured of the virus that afflicts them.
Cliff's Descent is the 11th book in Dianne’s excellent Immortal Guardians’ series. If you have not read this series before, I highly suggest that you start at the beginning with Darkness Dawns. If you insist on jumping in with Cliff’s Descent, no worries; Dianne has written the tale to where newbies should have no trouble enjoying the story as a solitary read and not feeling lost.
Following are a few more favorite excerpts from Cliff’s Descent:
“Let me go.”
“Never,” she breathed.
And oh, what that declaration did to him… ---
“Emma’s eyes widened. And when she opened the front door and stepped out onto her porch, the look of baffled astonishment on her face made him grin. “Hi, beautiful,” he called, buck naked in the moonlight.
Mouth hanging open, she shook her head. “What… is happening? Are the voices telling you to streak now?” she asked incredulously.
Cliff burst out laughing.” ---
“Emma settled herself sideways on his lap and pulled his arms around her. “You’re strong, Cliff.” She held out an arm, flexed her biceps in an exaggerated show of muscle, and arched a brow. “I’m strong, too.”
His expression lightened. “Yes, you are.”
“Together, we can do anything. We can fight this. We can beat this. Even though you may think it’s futile, we have to give Melanie and the other doctors more time.” She pressed a tender kiss to his lips. “I know it’s hard, honey, and that things may get worse. But I’ll be here to help you through it. All of it.” She kissed him again. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Those eyes of his brightened further as he dipped his head and claimed her lips in a longer, deeper kiss.”
Cliff’s situation throughout the series has made him a beloved fan-favorite and more than deserving of his own book. Dianne has done an exemplary job telling Cliff’s story. As a side benefit, since Cliff resided at network headquarters, I have found that I enjoyed spending time there with the guards and staff. I hope they don’t become strangers. Will Cliff and Emma have a happy ever after? You have to read Cliff’s Descent to find out. Days after reading it, I’m still pondering on the ramifications of the surprising twists and turns. As with all of Dianne’s stories, Cliff’s Descent is a page-turner that you won’t want to end.
After Reading ... *sigh* That's both a good and bad sigh. The Good: Cliff got a book of his own! The Bad: Cliff got but I wish .
Still, THANK YOU Ms. Duvall, for giving us and Cliff his own story. I love these characters/this world and will read whatever you wanna write about them in it!
Omfg I could NOT stop crying! I have been dying for this story for a while now and it was everything and more! The ending was such a shocker and I cannot wait for glimpses of them in future stories as they live and grow together (fingers crossed)
I could not fathom how Dianne Duvall was going to save Cliff from his inevitable madness. It has tortured me for several of the Immortal Guardians books. Loved this one. Sublime resolution.
I've been waiting for Cliff's story for so long that I was elated when I saw it was next. But with that been said I was very disappointed with this book. Half of the book is snippets of pervious books. Ms Duvall this is the first book of yours I'm not happy with, like the inconsistency of saying Seth read Cliff's mind to find out why he went berserk on Dr Wexman when in Shadows Strike Zack did. It wasn't all bad though as I did enjoy watching Cliff and Emma fall in love. Emma is the perfect woman for him, she knew just what to do in every situation. I also adore Todd, Cynthia and Sadie and all they did to help Emma and Cliff. Cliff deserved a happy ending and I'm glad you found a way to give him one, but it was kind of a letdown as I was hoping for more. Kirsten Potter as usual you were phenomenal, listening to you narrate the madness going on in Cliff's head was beyond creepy, but oh so good. I look forward to the next book in this series hoping it will answer certain questions, like what will Cliff do next?

That was a hard read. I just couldn’t quite figure out how he was going to be saved although I wondered what happened at the end of the fight with Gresham as he was…off…and the general consensus when he was severely injured was to let him go, yet he turned up healed.
In any case, kinda bittersweet in that he can have a normal life with 2.5 kids, a dog, and a white picket fence, but…. OTOH, he likely would get a j.o.b. at the network and it seems rare they ever get turned unless it’s intentional (the whole Gresham thing was a fluke)
Now to decide if I wish to continue. There’s 1 more at this point, plus the alien spin-off.
