I found this to be poorly written with a lot of "telling" me not showing me. I felt like I was being lectured. The first story was the worst, the third the best of the three though still not great.
Aaron Hammond is a former Navy SEAL and he has no idea how he arrived at Hathaway House in Texas. He was badly injured as part of betrayal that has destroyed his body, his career and his future and is consumed by a wave of profound anger that overtakes every other thought, feeling and experience he is currently having. Hathaway House is run by Dani Hathaway and her father. She knew Aaron and his brother Levi years ago and when she hears about Aaron (who she had a crush on years ago) she moves every obstacle to get him to her house for his rehabilitation determined to get him back to the way he used to be before the injury and anger. The old feeling will resurface as Dani constantly pushes him to accept that his life is not over but in fact, could be great.
This was a powerful first book in this new series which focussed on the physical, mental and spiritual healing that is needed after a serious military injury. The back story of the betrayal and old attraction was a nice touch that added lots of nice detail to this story. This was well written and suitably dramatic as well as suitably romantic. A lovely story with a sweet HEA at the end which will make you smile.
Brock - 4*
Brock Gorman had been a SEAL and was injured as part of a vehicle accident on the base in the US two months ago which caused major hip, back and shoulder injuries. The accident took away from him any chance of going on any more missions which were his everything. He has been at Hathaway House for more than a month and year there has been minimal improvement - after all - why should he try to get better when he has nothing to live for? Sidney Morning is a physiotherapist at Hathaway House and is returning after being away for nine months getting some specialised training. Having been told about Brock, she loves tough cases and just hopes he is not more than she can handle. After all, he is big, strong, stubborn as hell, and, absolutely gorgeous. He might not be making an effort to get better but Sidney is determined to get under his skin and force him to do all the work he needs to do to recover - she just needs to make sure she can make him understand that there are things that make life worth living. Sparks start to fly as they both start to fight each other and their own emotions. Can they be lucky and find their own healing and even love?
This was a great story that kept me captivated in the story of their battles of wills and emotions as they worked through all of the problems. I liked the turning points they seemed to pass through as part of their shared and separate journeys to enlightenment. Well written and very enjoyable.
Cole - 4*
On the first time Navy SEAL Cole Chamberlain was at Hathaway House he pushed himself too hard, took himself off his meds (without telling anyone) and caused so much harm that he ended up back in the hospital. Now he has returned to Hathaway House and is hoping that he can get his recovery back on track. Nurse Sandra Denver feels very responsible for what happened to Cole as she could (and should) have prevented it if only she had done a better job of making sure he was taking his meds. Now he is back she finds it hard to trust him and herself - and that will not make his recovery any easier. For Cole's sake, Sandra needs to help him to overcome his stumbling blocks as well as those of her own - with any chance they'll find a second chance at recovery for them both.
This was a lovely story that contained several lessons in life that could apply to us all - it is better to get emotions out and not bottle them up and results that take time and need a consistent effort. I loved the way that they both grew and that the result for them both was a chance at something very special between them. The ending of this story definitely made me smile and feel the joy that they had gotten past all of their problems. Well written and easy to read and understand.
Hathaway House 1-3 is not the usual Dale Mayer book. I am so used to her SEAL romances full of intrigue and steamy hot men, who kick *ss while saving their country and finding their soul-mate! Hathaway House, however, is more about what happens to these men, when everything they believed about themselves, is challenged by catastrophic injuries. In Hathaway House 1-3 , instead of non-stop intense action, Dale Mayer, delineates another kind of roller coaster of suspense; the raw, emotional journey towards healing experienced by an injured veteran. Dale still includes many twisted plot lines to provide the exhilarating ride we have come to love about her work. But the up and downs, twist and turns occur internally rather externally, within her characters instead of within the mission's action. As a retired military RN and wife of a disabled special ops veteran, it is a all too familiar story. I thought it would hit too close to home. I thought it would trigger emotions I had long since put to bed. It did! But it also was a balm to my wounded soul. Because in Hathaway House I could tell that Dale Mayer gets it! In classic Dale Mayer's style, she digs deep into the psyche of a recovering wounded warrior , the healthcare team that provides for them and the friends and lovers who struggle to show caring without creating dependency. Dale does a truly magnificent job of developing relatable characters, and describing the many twists and turns encountered in the healing process. Most importantly, Dale Mayer, with her happily ever after endings, gives those of us on this same journey ( and those of us who have survived this stage of the process) hope for the future. Dale Mayer transported me to a world that I have long dreamed of; a world where the money and resources exist to provide a holistic approach to recovery for all wounded warriors! While I read these stories I could envision myself sitting with my soldier patients on a patio overlooking a green pasture, where a rescued filly froliced, watching a big strong man find spiritual and physical healing from hugging an injured animal. I wish there was a Hathaway House for every wounded veteran and their families! Thank you Dale for creating such a wonderful world! It appealed to my nursing soul and gave me a welcome respite from reality. It was truly a "someday over the rainbow experience" that moved me in ways I will never forget. I will definitely put the rest of the series on my To Be Read shelf!
Currently free on Amazon What a great chance to fill some gaps I have in this series. I read book one then many of the latter ones and have loved them all.
Aaron: Wounded warriors and the best haven for them. Not only healing their injuries but their souls as well. These characters reconnected after knowing each other as teenagers. Both had their own paths to follow as they grew. This looks like a promising series, I really enjoyed the first one.
Hathaway House is a place to rebuild one's mind, body, and soul. Aaron, Brock, and Cole each have to climb up out of the depths of despair to get their lives back on track. Dani, Sidney, and Sandra are the strong, compassionate women that will help heal their minds, bodies, and souls with all the love in their hearts. Hathaway House is a beautiful place for good and happiness.
Hathaway House Box Set #1-#3 was a delightful read set in a beautiful verdant Texas location with recovering animal and human patients. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the developing story as these strong men healed and sought comfort in the tranquil setting with friendly, furry companions. It's also a plus that attraction to members of the staff and patients developed into lasting romances. Good Read!!!!
I adored Aarons book! He and Dani where pure fire and i loved them both so much. I enjoyed both Brock and Coles books also. Hathaway House is one of those places thats pure magic and seeing the progression both men and women make is amazing. The fact that animals and people are put together it truly beautiful and inspiring! I really hope there are amazing places like this our service people have to recover and heal at.
The premise and setting of this book are unusual and create many creative opportunities for the author. These three stories, while featuring many of the same characters, are all very different. All of them are well written and well plotted. Definitely worth reading.
This series is quite different from what we're used to from this author. There is a message here for the readers about trial, and demons, and self acceptance so that you can grow and accept others. I like the major and all the animals. The first book was the best of the three I think, but it's a continuing story of friends.
I didn't read the 3rd book, there was just too much bad language. The 1st one had some, the 2nd one was worse, so I didn't want to skip, skip, skip through the 3rd one as I had the previous 2. The story it's self wasn't bad, but I felt like I needed to sanitize my ears afterwards. It's a shame authors feel like they need to put that garbage in their books.
I’ve read Books 1-3 and was fascinated. I was aware of PTSD and many of the problems men and women faced, but this went over the top for me. Each of these stories stories were portrayed as real, but I was stunned to realize something in Book 3 with Cole’s breakthrough, was actually of help in my personal life. My compliments and thanks to the author!
Nicely unfolding tales of rehabilitation for folks injured in some way. Interwoven parts of a whole for full recovery. A bit of romance tucked in for a nice plot twist. Highly recommended.
A delightful heartwarming stories of wounded vets and wounded animals that come to this place. The determination and love and patience of those that go way beyond their job, to help them and to heal. All three story were excellent.
This set of books is good and clean. Aaron, Brock and Cole each think that they are too damaged to find love. I appreciate that the author endeavored to keep things clean.
The story line flows smoothly from first to last. There are no large gaps where you lose interest or focus. I felt like I was living in Hathaway House with everyone in the stories!
Three great stories, all sweet romances well written and edited. And stories that call attention to what our service men and women go through when they come home are my favorite
Good read. Hoping that all veterans have a real place like this. They deserve this for the sacrifices they made for our country. Well deserved for them.
Hathaway House 1-3, was three different romances that occurred at the same rehabilitation center. It's not just any rehabilitation center, but one for both humans and animals. It's unique quality is great for healing as well as the people and their hearts and souls....
