Storm Front

Rate this book
Ares, an insidious challenger to the Zeta group, is sowing conflict around the world, orchestrating an explosive endgame. Indentifying the next target as a cruise ship on the Coral Sea, Zeta sends undercover operatives Alex Morgan and Alicia Schmitt to avert catastrophe. Infiltrating the crew and passengers is easy for the skilled agents—but also for the fortified and highly trained extremists, who topple security and gain control of the ship.

The attackers’ demands: inconceivable. Their threats: immediate. As a massive storm bears down off the Australian coast, Alex and Alicia are outnumbered, outgunned, and out to sea. In full chaos mode, Alex shores up her last defenses, unaware that someone close to her could shift the odds in her favor—or against her. Ares has every advantage in this operation, but they have overlooked one key thing. Never underestimate a Zeta agent . . . especially one whose last name is Morgan.

First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Leo J. Maloney, Kensington Books and Lyrical Press for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

Leo J. Maloney is back with another thriller, keeping things in the Morgan family. His younger protagonist, Alex, is full of energy, as she tries to fill the shoes of her father while working for Zeta Group. After being the target of an attack by Ares, Alex Morgan realises that her life is in danger. What better way to protect herself than to agree to an undercover mission on a cruise ship, where Ares is set to strike? Alex will have to infiltrate those who seek to cause harm and wrest control back for Zeta before it’s too late. However, she is not the only Morgan on a mission, one that could end in death! Maloney does well to keep the action high and the twists plentiful.

Alex Morgan loves being an operative for Zeta Group, even if it means that she is sometimes compared to her father, Dan. When Alex is almost killed in an explosion at work, she comes to terms that it was likely Ares who are responsible, Zeta’s enemy, trying to do away with the young foot soldier. Faced with a security issue, Alex agrees to go undercover on a cruise ship in the Coral Sea, hoping to infiltrate the group and likely discover what Ares has in store.

After some rigourous training, Alex is placed aboard the shop and slowly works her way into discovering what is going on, which includes an attach on the ship by would-be pirates. However, she is not going to take this sitting down and shows true grit during the entire ordeal.

Meanwhile, Dan Morgan has learned of his daughter’s mission and has one of his own to handle in Australia. He’s working as best he can to uncover truths many would like buried, all while Zeta Group tries to juggle the intel that is flowing in. With two Morgans working so efficiently, Ares does not stand a chance, or do they?

Time is ticking on this mission and neither Dan nor Alex can risk failure, as it could cost them their lives. It will require patience and some real dedication, something that is woven into the fabric of the Morgans from a young age. However, one wrong move could prove deadly. Maloney does well developing this new generation of Morgan intel operative, which is sure to impress fans of his other works.

I have long admired the work of Leo J. Maloney and the attention to detail he puts into his books. There is something exciting with each piece, which they all tie into together nicely. This book flowed well, with an easy narrative and straightforward chapters. I found it waned at times for my liking, but it could be a slight reading slump in which I find myself.

Alex Morgan is a great character who has come into her own over the last while. She has been forced to live in her father’s shadow, at least since she knew about his work with Zeta Group. Now, she is on her won and facing danger every day. There is some great character development throughout the piece and the reader gets to know a little more about Alex, as well as how she ticks. I am eager to see more as time gores on and this new series comes into its own.

Leo J. Maloney uses this series twist to his advancing, easing Alex Morgan into the role of protagonist without pushing Dan out of the limelight completely. The narrative works well and keeps the reader on their toes, as plot twists arise throughout with great regularlity. Shorter chapters help keep the flow and things are never in a true lull. All that being said, I could not connect as effectively as I would have liked throughout this piece, feeling things weren’t as impactful as they could have been. Perhaps I am simply having a tough time of it lately, but I felt there was a missing link that I cannot properly identify. We’ll see if this was simply a blip when next Alex Morgan graces us with her presence.

Kudos, Mr. Maloney, for another great novel. I am eager to see what you have to come in the next few months.

If you like secret organisation and action then you should try this series from Leo J. Maloney. Storm Front is the latest book about Alex Morgan Zeta agent and daughter of Dan Morgan who has his own series. This time the fight against ARES continues and it involves both fathe and daughter and is a wild ride. Alex goes undecover on a cruise ship that is rumored to be the target of an attack. At the same time her father takes a break from his vacation and seeks out ARES around the Solomon islands. Some really good scenes and a lot of action which includes a brand new weapon designed by Shepherd at Zetas headquarter. I had a really good time reading this book and recommend it to all thriller fans. A big thanks to @netgalley #Netgalley and @KensingtonBooks #KensingtonBooks for giving me this advance copy of #StormFront and to @LeoJMaloney for making this stuff up.

A shared book between Dan Morgan and his daughter Alex. After an attempt on her life by ARES Alex is sent 9000 miles away for an undercover op on a cruise ship based in the Coral Sea.
Dan and his wife are on "vacation" in Jakarta with his partner and girlfriend. Events tie both Morgan's missions together on separate fronts.
Another action packed thriller from Leo Maloney

Thanks to netgalley.com, Kensington Publishing and Lyrical Press for the advance ARC for my honest review.

This was my first read from the author Leo J. Maloney, while I enjoyed 'Storm Front' the writing kept me turn pages, did like the tie-in with WW2 in the pacific with Japan, it was predictable, basically a formula read and good conquers evil, while battling Ares.

While it's part of the Alex Morgan series, you have her mother Jenny Morgan, father Dan Morgan, his partner Pete Conley, his girlfriend Dani and Alicia Schmitt a character from the Dan Morgan series.
It goes back and forth between Alex and Alicia, then the two couples making it more like two blended short stories verse an intertwining story.

Definitely this is one author that a reader could read in between releases from your favorite authors in the Action Adventure and terrorist-espionage genres.

4.5 Stars 🌟

I was a big fan of Mr. Maloney's Dan Morgan series so I was thrilled to see that there was going to be a spin off with his daughter Alex. Then I read the first book and I wasn't so sure any more. (you can read my review for that book). She was just TOO perfect. Too confident for her age, but it still had promise. Then I was awarded an ARC and I got all discombobulated because it was the 3rd book i the series and I realized that I had missed the release of the second book. So...here is that being rectified....

This book was a definitely different set up from the first book (and if I'm being honest, I was a little confused with the order of the books - it felt like things that occurred in book 2 mentioned events in book 3 (which hadn't happened yet) - how is that possible? Anyway, it was probably just me.

So- we have Alex being singled out by Aries and escaping from almost certain death in Boston. She is then sent on assignment on a cruise ship that might be involve in the center of a huge terrorist plot. And, like in the prior books, her parents (who are still on an around the world vacation) get pulled in (or kind of volunteer) to help.

I enjoyed this book. We get to see Alex begin to get better at working together with other team members and there is just the perfect amount of drama, action and all around craziness as things begin to unfold. The Zeta team is solid - as always - and there is even a possible love interest down the road for Alex.

I listened to most of this on audio and thought Kate Zane was okay. Not great, but not awful.

Since I've already read the ARC for book 3, I guess I now have to wait for book 4 *sigh*

Thank you to NetGalley, Kensington Books and the author for the opportunity to read and review "Storm Front" by Leo J. Maloney.
"Storm Front" is the latest instalment in the Alex Morgan/Zeta series but it's really a combination Dan Morgan/Pete Conley and Alex Morgan book, with assistance from Jenny Morgan, Pete's girlfriend Dani, and Alicia Schmitt who we met in previous books. And Diana Bloch of Zeta headquarters.
This time, it's possible terror on the high seas - courtesy, of course, of Ares, Zeta's archenemy.
Shortly after an attack on her life, courtesy of the above mentioned Ares, Alex Morgan is apprised that her next task will be to avert catastrophe on the high seas - as crew on a cruise ship, the same ship where co-incidentally Alicia Schmitt is overseeing the installation of a new security system.
Zeta having credible evidence that the ship might be the target of a terror incident, Alex works to become one of the crew, while being constantly on the lookout for Ares' infiltration.
In the meantime, Dan Morgan and Pete Conley are working to find and neutralize an Ares stronghold on an island in the same vicinity.
Charged with the same action as all of the previous Alex Morgan and Dan Morgan books, this one does not disappoint. Recommended.

Way to go Alex!

My husband is a fan of the Dan Morgan books, which I've been reading and loving for years, and on his recommendation I picked up the Alex Morgan titles. I’m hooked! Alex is the kind of woman I wish I were at that age. She’s a badass secret agent and tremendously appealing as a human being as she navigates difficult relationships and situations. The book delivers high-stakes action and suspense and does it with a large helping of humor--which is so refreshing and unexpected for books in this genre. I loved the cruise ship setting, and the fact that it takes place in the Coral Sea. There is also a World War II tie-in that was great fun. One of my favorite characters is Jenny Morgan—Dan’s wife and Alex’s mom. While she is not a spy like her husband and daughter, she really holds her own and is essential to Alex's story. Highly recommended.

Alex Morgan, Zeta secret spy, along with her upper spy dad, Dan and interior decorator mom, Jenny get themselves in some pretty unbelievable situations but always come through unscathed. Storm Front, the second installment of the Alex Morgan series did not disappoint. Full of creative solutions to extraordinary problems, I was absorbed into the excitement and adventures. I don’t know if it’s the edge of your seat action or pulse racing suspense that kept me up late in the night to finish this book, but I enjoyed it!

This series just keeps getting better.

Great book and great addition to the Morgan family story. And while the book is nearly non-stop action, it still manages to develop Alex's character. She's undercover on a cruise ship when everything goes wrong. Life on ship seemed very real to me, and she develops some interesting relationships there. Plus, there were some great touches of humor. I don't want to give away anything because there are some great surprises here, but I will say that Dan Morgan has a pretty big role in this one--probably the biggest so far in the series. Home run.

Great second novel in this series about Alex Morgan, an agent with a private organization tasked with keeping America safe. She is sent to the Coral Sea and is assigned to a cruise ship who is the target of a terrorist organization. Add a typhoon to the mix and this story is a thrill ride from start to finish

Alex continues to mature as a character of her own, emerging from the shadow of her father. Bringing in familiar as well as new characters, the author has once again created an exciting story.I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily provided an honest review.

Storm Front – Book #2 in the Alex Morgan series.

Alex is a bit more seasoned as she is assigned to work undercover on a cruise ship in the Coral Sea. Zeta has received information that a large event is anticipated by Ares in this area and Alex is sent out to scout. A good continuation of the series with excellent descriptions of weapons and fight scenes. I’m hooked!

International thriller

Alex works for a secret government intelligence agency, Zeta, who is at war with an international baddie organization called Ares. As Zeta has heard there may be action in the Coral Sea, Alex is sent undercover to a cruise ship. Which is more likely to kill her - Ares or the passengers waiting on their drink order?
